The restaurant looks like an English pub. The food was delicious. Eden was the best waitress!

We needed a quick bite to eat and found Churchill's a block away. They have an open air, rooftop bar with seating which can be nice depending on the weather. We were there at 5:15 PM on a Thursday afternoon and it was 82 degrees Fahrenheit with a nice breeze so the rooftop was perfect. I ordered the Ale Braised Shepherds Pie with of course, an ale! The ale was quenching and the pie made a good appearance! There was a perfectly baked pastry on top. It was light and crunchy and was a nice twist over a mashed potato-based pie. Unfortunately, it was a bit too salty. It wasn't so bad that I wanted to send it back but it was definitely more salty for my taste. There were nice chunks of beef but the larger pieces were slightly dry and chewy. Our server Matt took good care of us (like our request to rearrange the tables and chairs to accommodate our group) so kudos to him. read more

We decided to share the Southern Burger w/ regular fries and the Crab Cake sliders/ truffle fries and a side of Brussels. Our Brussels and fries were cold. Our server was very apologetic and had them remade. The fries were still like warm when we got them but we moved forward. The crab sliders were really good and truffle fries were really good! I just wished the fries were hot. I would come back for that. The burger was okay nothing special. With the bacon I expected more flavor with the Brussels but they fell short my cousin felt the same. We had never been before and no one really explained anything to us so we had to ask for everything like getting menus, how food orders worked on the rooftop, etc. (so we were confused a lot) and when one of us tried to order one of their speciality drinks, we were told they didn't have all the ingredients for it so we asked for a different one and got the same response. We ended up settling and just getting a margarita since we had no clue what they could or couldn't make. Other than that though, we had an enjoyable experience. I checked out Churchill's recently for a birthday brunch and I was really impressed with the brunch options. The menu is huge and they have an open bar. I enjoyed the pimento bites and the sliders were just ok to me. They were easily able to accommodate a large party, with no reservations. Stopped in to Churchill's while in town to get dinner. There is a decent happy hour menu with good priced beers. There were some business folks enjoying drinks at the bar but not many patrons there for food. I got the steak and ale pie while my wife got the cod fish sandwich. Her sandwich was nice and crispy with good fries. My pie wasn't actually a pie, but a steak stew in a cast iron with a piece of puff pastry on top. It didn't taste bad, just wasn't what I had expected and was a bit boring. The best part of the meal was our waitress Emma, she was very pleasant and so welcoming. She made us feel less like tourists and more like regulars which was nice. Try it for happy hour and get one of the many appetizers and some beer. read more

On a recent vacation to Savannah, GA I used google to find some interesting places to eat while I was in town. I was delighted to find a British Pub located just across the street from my hotel! Churchill's plays up the dark wood but fun vibes of this establishment. Upon entering you see this massive and beautiful bar that lines practically the entire left side of the pub. We were quickly seated and drinks were fetched by our young waitress. Having watched a bunch of english shows I was familiar with some dishes and was looking forward to trying some. I knew right away I wanted to try the sausage rolls. I've heard about them all the time, even from that one british baking show! I love sausage and bread so this seemed like a no brainer! Presentation was lovely! The puff pastry was very flakey and baked just right. My only let down was the sausage just didn't seem to have much flavor. At least not what I"m used too. It was cooked fine, I just wasn't tasting anything. I had heard of the British food being bland or whatever but I was surprised to actually taste nothing. The menu has lots of classic British foods to try but how could I not try the Fish N Chips! Menu says it was supposed to come with toast and mushy peas. As you can see in the photo I took, there was no toast and the peas were not "mushy" They were however very salty. The fish was probably the best piece I have ever had. Flakey, hot, fall apart melted in my mouth. The "chips" were standard fries. My parents joined me on this trip and my dad got the same as me but mom ordered a cup of the She Crab soup and the Bangers and Mash. Being from Maryland we love anything with blue crab in it and mom really enjoyed her soup. Her entree, while she loved the flavor of the mash she felt the same way about her sausage that I did. She said it just didn't have much flavor. Not a reflection on the pub but I guess English sausage is just different. We did have a spill of one of the peas over the table and the young waitress who was new and appeared nervous tried to help clean it up but took a bottle of cleaning solution and sprayed it on the table, and on me, as we were sitting there finishing our dinner. Hopefully she gets some better training and doesn't spray anymore guests. Overall we enjoyed our night out and shall I ever make my way back to Savannah I will indeed stop back in to Churchill's! read more

Out of town visiting random places and this popped up nearby. I went 50 mins before closing (ik, that's crazy but i was hungry). I sat at the bar but I read they have a rooftop as well. Bathroom is located on the bottom level (kinda scary down there when the lower level of the restaurant isn't open). Good part, the food was piping hot and fresh. I got 24 Rockafeller Oysters and the Spinach Dip. Both of them were so good. The oysters were plated a lil sloppy but they were good nonetheless. The spinach dip had a thick cheesy crust on top and the pita chips were hard but still went well with my oysters and spinach dip. I also got a Churchill burger and it was sooo thick and juicy! I'd definitely get that again. Overall, I liked it and you may like it too. My bill for all 3 things came out to $68 which isn't too bad because i got big portions and a lot of food! read more

Luckily secured a last minute reservation for Easter brunch. Our cozy corner booth was in need of a thorough cleaning, but aside from the dust the ambiance is British pub perfection. Our phenomenal server, Leon, is service excellence personified. For food, the Scotch egg was just okay. If it was wrapped in sausage, it was undetectable. I love flavor to savor, so I wouldn't reorder. The bites of the English breakfast bacon, on the other hand. were quite tasty. I do t typically indulge in sweet breakfasts, but the Belgian was were irresistible and the the taste was exceptional. Fluffy, with just a touch of caramelized crispy bits. Quite heavenly. read more

Rooftop dining on a gorgeous autumn day in August (yes, you read that right!), what could get any better? Delicious food and beverages, of course! We were in a bit of a rush because we had to meet at the street for a pub crawl, but, not to worry, we got our food with thirty minutes to spare. My friend had a cup of she crab soup. Our entrees were salad with blackened salmon and chicken salad with a side salad. They have 4 salads to choose from and all can have your choice of protein. Churchill's is a charming pub with a cozy, dark interior and a stunning bar that immediately sets the mood. We arrived a bit early for our reservation and were seated right away, no hassle at all. The hostess was warm and welcoming, which was a great start to the evening. Our server, Matt, was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and genuinely knowledgeable. He recommended the First City wine, and I went with the William Knuttel Estates Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma, CA. Excellent choice: smooth, rich, and absolutely delicious. We kicked things off with the pimento cheese croquettes from the happy hour menu (only $5!), and they were a standout. Perfectly hot and creamy on the inside, with a crisp exterior, and paired with two flavorful dipping sauces that really complemented the dish. For my entrée, I ordered the meatloaf, which came with mashed potatoes, green beans, and onion rings drizzled with BBQ sauce. The meatloaf itself was hearty and flavorful, especially with the BBQ sauce, and the onion rings added a nice crunch. The green beans were fine, though they could have used a bit more seasoning on their own. Overall, Churchill's delivered a great dining experience with solid food, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. It was the last stop for a large group of friends getting together. Getting here at open made sitting down easy. We all had a chance to order whatever we wanted and for the most part that worked out well too in a timely manner. Our server seemed irritated and impatient with us today at lunch, we can only assume it's because my partner and I were ordering slowly, sharing one appetizer at a time while we waited out the rain and wanted to enjoy a leisurely lunch. We ordered the French onion soup which was great. Next we tried the fried green tomatoes, I was initially a bit disappointed as I didn't care for the balsamic glaze or pimento cheese. Glad we got these on the side. This fish was far better with just like juice. Finally we enjoyed the Caesar salad with blackened chicken. The hostess out front was quite unpleasant, however our server Jennifer was cheerful and fun to interact with. She stayed on top of our drinks and definitely added some sunshine to our afternoon. We were bummed but quickly found 2 seats at the bar which evolved to five within a few minutes. Mimosa flights and fried green tomatoes made us very happy. Our table really did take an hour, and by the time we were seated the restaurant had mostly cleared out. We ordered way too much food and loved most of it. The only reason I gave this place two stars is because the Manager was British and she was extremely sweet, and fixed the mess of the kitchen as much as she could. She really is making an effort to turn things around. Overall this is not even close to a British pub at all. Being from England we were thrilled to visit, walked in all the American baseball games, etc 3 tvs of American sports. Had a very sports pub feel that you could get down the road at a Millers sports bar all that was missing was a pool table. The food was absolutely the worse food we have ever had, and again the only reason this review even has a star is because the manager sorted things out but we ate at the hotel after. First time trying this restaurant and we were impressed. They have happy hour on Sundays so we ordered the onion rings and pretzel bites. We were so hungry that we forgot to take pictures. Both apps were delicious. Then I got the crabcake sliders with crispy brussel sprouts and bacon. Brussels were a $2 upcharge and probably the best brussels I have ever had. They were cooked perfectly. My husband had the steak and ale pie which he liked very much. I am not an ale drinker but the ale gave a wonderful flavor to the pie. We dropped in here for a drink prior to our dinner reservations at another restaurant. They have a cool Irish style pub with an upstairs patio area. This place sits atop river street and is not on the river. I was referred here by a coworker who mentioned they had good dirty martinis. I will say, the dirty martini was nothing special at all. The bartender didn't seem so enthusiastic about my request either, so I don't think any love was put into making it. Since we didn't order food. I didn't want to rate them a 2. The ambiance is nice here but that particular bartender could use a service adjustment. read more
