Small Irish pub in the heart of the historic Savannah. The bar itself is quite interesting - small, somewhat dark, and fairly crowded. I had a couple of pints of Guinness. O'Connell's is a glorious little Irish pub, whose high-partition bar counter makes me reminisce of some of the pubs I have frequented when visiting Ireland. You can easily walk inside the pub and feel like you have walked into a pub located in Galway. Perched on Drayton Street in the heart of downtown Savannah, O'Connell's is smaller than you would think when you enter. Inside is fairly boxy, with the high partition bar to the right where you order drinks and can stand and place your said drinks on the addition counter spacing. To the left you will find a long booth with two tables, and a smaller booth next to the bathrooms. The bar offers an extensive array of Irish whiskeys that aren't usually stocked at other bars such as those in the surrounding area, which I dug. I mean when you can look across the bar and see Spot bottles by Mitchell & Sons, you know this pub means business. The staff behind are incredible efficient and friendly. We went there during the St. Paddy's parade and they had drinks made fast with a smile. Our main bartender even took a picture of us in between making and serving drinks. Pretty cool. If you visiting or living in the Savannah area, O'Connell's is a must-stop for bars to visit. read more

I came with a couple of friends. This place was... fine. I was told by the bartender that there was no Magners on the East Coast when I asked if they had any. Not quite sure that's true since I've definitely had it elsewhere on the east coast before but whatever I guess? It definitely has the look of an Irish pub, but was missing the liveliness. Neat small venue with an Irish vibe 'of course'. 2 things that bothered me: 1. $15 minimum purchase if using a credit card. Would have been nice to have been informed of this ahead of time as I rarely carry cash with me and was just planning on a 'one and done' beer but forced to buy another b/c already served the first. 2. Sitting at the bar and group of 9 or so came in to sit at tables behind me and they ALL had to be in their 50's/60's and because 1 or 2 did not have their IDs in their possession they could not be inside b/c of a Georgia law so they all left....wow, that would been a rather large tab....lost business. A very traditional small Irish bar in the heart of Savannah! Very cozy and friendly - ambience is amazing with lots of interesting memorabilia giving it an old world charm. For seating , they have benches with high walls that section off one group for another. They also have quirky stools made of large milk canisters! The bar only serves beverages but they do have a lot of variety ! If you intend to eat something, the staff will recommend some great places nearby . This is one of the places you'll see a lot of regulars and make friends ! The service is excellent as well! Location & Parking : The location is great : it's just off Broughton street on Drayton, a step away from Leopold's and Naan Appetite! However, parking is a challenge on weekends - there are paid parking lots which generally fill up beyond 8:30pm on weekends Covid protocols: The bar and rest rooms are very clean. Great little bar off the main strip. They specialize in whiskey and beer. They did have a full bar but they had a very large whiskey selection. I'm not a big whiskey drinker so I told him to just make us two drinks. He made us Jamison and Ginger ale and two drinks was 12 bucks Due to Covid there's a big plastic barrier between the bar itself and the bartender and there's a little window so you have to place your orders and pick your drinks up. It's small but the drinks were good and not too expensive and the air-conditioning felt good on a day that the feels like it was 102°. read more

The atmosphere is quaint, feels like a small Irish pub. Bar tender that looks like Santa is bitter. They have mandatory ID so if you're visiting with someone who can't produce papers, even if they aren't having alcohol they aren't allowed in. I'd be bitter too. This place is a hidden gem! We stumbled across this bar and we are so happy we did. We both sat at the bar and ordered 2 jack and cokes. The drinks were strong and the bartender was really nice. Maybe it was the alcohol, but he reminded me off Santa (tee-hee). You just can't beat this place. We got two drinks for $8. Yes, they aren't trying to rob you here! I stop in everytime I am downtown. The atmosphere is laid back and I can enjoy conversation with my friends. Patrons are always ready for some good conversation and the bartenders are attentive. I get great service there, now when I walk in I usually have my drink waiting for me if its Tyler or Dirk. Its cozy and reminds me of back home. Had some real fun times in there. Hands down my favorite pub in Savannah. No blaring TVs or obnoxious music pumping through the place. Instead, people have drinks, mingle, and have conversations (what a concept!). You'll find a mixture of locals and non-locals here on any given night, and they blend well. I;d particularly recommend a stop here if you're looking to get away from the electronics for a bit and simply enjoy talking to folks (friends or strangers) face to face. read more

My friends and I were probably more excited to go back to O'Connell's than any other bar downtown after we were vaccinated. It's a cool place with a lot of atmosphere and reasonable prices. This time however we decided we may not go back any longer. The bartender on duty has been there for some years, older gentleman with white hair and a bit of a beard. Prior to the pandemic there was another bartender there who was just so outgoing and friendly it kind of made up for the older gentleman being a grouch. But he's there by himself, or has been the last two times we went in. He doesn't smile, he makes you feel like your an inconvenience and not a customer. We actually tipped him quite a bit of money, hoping maybe he'd respond to us by being a bit more friendly, no luck. He told us we couldn't play darts because the city had banned it ( covid )That may be so, I dont know. But we went to three other bars that night that we played darts in. I think he thought we'd stay longer if we did. We were not obnoxious, loud or disrespectful.
