Taste of Hope - Repeal 33, Savannah
Our recent visit to Repeal 33 was a truly memorable experience, marked by exceptional service, inviting ambiance, and thoughtfully curated dishes.
Our server, Andrea, provided attentive and professional service throughout the meal, ensuring our experience was seamless. The table service was impeccable, reflecting a high standard of hospitality. The ambiance of the restaurant--earthy, warm décor complemented by a great playlist--created a cozy, neighborhood feel that would undoubtedly appeal to locals and visitors alike.
We began our culinary journey with the Malbec Argentinian Altocedro Reserva, which was refreshingly clean with just enough acidity to beautifully complement the NY strip steak. The whipped Ricotta Toast stood out as an excellent starter, with its delightful blend of flavors--earthy broccoli, pesto, and piccata--served atop rustic golden toast. The whipped ricotta was light and creamy, elevating the dish.
The beef tartare presentation was visually striking, featuring a smoked element under glass that added a sophisticated touch. The flavors were robust and well-balanced, demonstrating a mastery of seasoning.
The NY strip steak was a highlight--perfectly cooked to medium well, with fantastic flavor enhanced by the horseradish. The portion size was generous, and the accompanying creamed spinach and duchess potatoes were equally satisfying, both well-executed and hearty.
The peach sangria was both visually appealing and delicious. The beverage's sweetness was balanced by the citrus and the inclusion of a screwdriver garnished with lime, orange, and an olive. The addition of rosemary, honey, and elderflower brought a calming, earthy note, making it a delightful accompaniment.
The flatbread was crispy, savory, with a subtle sweetness that made it a warm, inviting appetizer. The salmon dish was cooked to perfection, steamed well, and complemented by a flavorful curry coconut sauce, which elevated the dish. The rice, slightly on the crunchy side, was a minor disappointment but did not detract from the overall enjoyment. The crispy Japanese eggplant was good, though portion size was modest, leaving room for improvement.
Beverage offerings included unsweetened tea, which was very good, and a standout sweet tea that was truly exceptional. The grilled okra and crispy Japanese eggplant made for a tasty duo, with the okra notably flavorful.
The warm sourdough bread was fresh, soft inside, with a perfectly crisp crust, paired excellently with high-quality butter. The grilled bone-in pork chop, however, was overcooked despite our request for medium well. The barbecue glaze paired nicely with the chop, complemented by sweet potato puree and spinach--large portions made for a filling meal.
The Double Smash Burger was juicy, flavorful, and elevated by a truffle sauce and buttery bun. The whipped ricotta toast was a unexpected delight--rustic, golden, and topped with a honey drizzle that added a touch of sweetness and richness.
Seafood dishes shined as well. The Prince Edward Island mussels were generously portioned and cooked to perfection. The Indian-inspired broth, smoky and tangy, was a standout, perfectly paired with toasted garlic bread. I enjoyed every mussel and even took some broth home--an indication of its deliciousness.
Crispy Brussels sprouts were well-seasoned and cooked to perfection, adding a satisfying crunch. The smoked harbor drink was well-balanced and complemented the table's cocktail selection.
The grilled octopus had a good flavor, though its texture was somewhat tougher and saltier than expected. The oyster Rockefeller was rich and creamy, offering a lovely contrast.
For dessert, the cinnamon sugar doughnut was light, fluffy, and satisfying. The accompanying cream sauce strawberry reduction provided a perfect balance of tartness, preventing the doughnut from being overly sweet.
Overall, our experience at Repeal 33 was excellent. The combination of attentive service, inviting atmosphere, and thoughtfully prepared dishes made for a memorable dining outing. We look forward to returning and exploring more of their menu. read more
