Espresso Martini

We had an amazing time dining at Common. The style of the restaurant is moody and antique. We sat in the front by the bar for our big group. We showed up around the time where the prelude menu was available and just before dinner, so we ordered off both menus. From the Prelude menu we ordered a round of house and local oysters that are freshly shucked. They are priced at $0.75 and $2 a pop which makes it a great deal. They were served with crackers, lemons, hot sauce, horseradish, mignonette sauce and cocktail sauce. Off the dinner menu my sister ordered the Southern White Gumbo and I got the shrimp and grits. Both were very generous in the amount of seafood in both dishes. I liked that the shrimp was fresh and seasoned well. The grits were very creamy and was great with the shrimp. Our waitress was very attentive to make sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely come back again if we are in the area.

Wow! My wife and I showed up just before 3pm on a Sunday, looking for some happy hour oysters and drinks and we left happy! The hostess set up a small table for us next to the bar and our server was there immediately to guide us through the drinks and food options. We ordered three dozen oysters of every make and model over the course of our time there, as well as a couple of cocktails, some tinned fish and some Miller ponys. Everyone was friendly and the food and drinks were tasty. This was just one of those perfect, laid-back, pleasant experiences that you hope to wander into every now and then. Thank you, Common.

My friends and I grabbed dinner at this beautiful restaurant Monday night. Once our group sat down, the manager stopped by our table and offered us some rolls that this restaurant only make 6 of per night (usually reserved for events) since one of our friends is friends with one of the servers at the restaurant. The manager definitely didn't have to do this, but we automatically felt welcomed by this gesture. Also, the rolls were amazing! It had flaky sea salt, rosemary, and other seasonings, and it was really soft in the middle. Also, I have to give a shout out to our server, Mike! He was so personable and had us laughing the entire time! He also went out of his way to search for an outlet for one of our friends that needed to charge her phone, which was really sweet of him. As for the dinner I ordered, I would say that it was a solid 4. My sister and I ended up splitting the Hot Honey Glazed Short Rib Fettucini Fattoria since we were interested in trying both. The short rib was perfectly cooked and tender, but it definitely could've used more seasoning. I nearly asked for a side of flaky sea salt since it would've taken this dish over the edge because of how perfectly cooked it was. Outside of that, the sides including the cornbread were absolutely delicious. The fettuccine also could've used a bit more salt or a hit of citrus to bring out the flavors more, but was really good over all. You can truly tell that the pasta is homemade, and the meat within it was cooked to perfection.

A group dinner at Common found us raiding the menu for drinks (mocktails and full proof), appetizers (the best was the freshly baked bread, and a flight of smoked oysters Rockefeller. When it came time for the mains, I had to get the "Pineapple Situation" - Thai Chili & Citrus Glazed Mahi Mahi with Pineapple Fried Rice in a grilled Pineapple Half, with Yum Yum Sauce & Charred Lime. Others got the shrimp & grits, along with a few of the evening's specials (scallops and grilled shrimp). And of course, we had to try the desserts as well. A fun environment, great for groups, this is worth a try if you're visiting Savannah.

One thing you and I may have in "COMMON" is never having enough recommendations for a brunch spot. Common on Broughton Street is Historic Downtown Savannah needs to be on your list! After seeing an IG post about their Brisket Grilled Cheese, I knew I needed to repay them a visit. Their brunch menu is modern and creative as it pays homage to its Southern roots. A great bar space, booths and tables under old church lanterns. Laken, our server, was extremely helpful as we asked questions and a good cocktail pairing. She recommended the Not a Poinsettia as it was light and bubbly option to pair well with the heavy food choices. The Brisket Grilled Cheese - delicious! The sourdough bread was thick and helped absorb the richness of the oils and aioli. Fried Chicken Sandwich - If Chick-fil-A had a bougie, rich, single auntie... this would be her. Smoked Oysters Rockefeller - Yes, yes, YES!!! Perfect combination or savory, slight sweetness, and a tad bit of spice. Insider Tip: Ask for a side of garlic aioli for your fries!

We came here on a Thursday afternoon when we made it to Savannah. We had six house oysters (which are only 75¢ each) and the four Mezcal & Pepper Oyster. They were good. No complaints. The wine was chilled and the service was good. I'd come back for their dinner menu to see how that experience would be.

Jen was a fantastic server and we had a delicious meal. Chef did a table touch which was an added bonus on an already great dinner. The shrimp and grits as well as a fried green tomato app were our favorite dishes though the short rib ravioli (sauce was light and not too heavy) and the scallop special we had were fantastic too. Do not pass on dessert. The Banana pudding was incredible! There is a caramel sauce on the bottom that really adds an extra element of yum! Drinks were creative and refreshing! I enjoyed the Girl Dinner Martini, really fun twist on a lemony (almost a hint garlic flavor? might sound weird but it worked) martini. The Gypsy Queen was light, balanced, and a great dinner cocktail. We were so happy we ate here on our recent trip to Savannah!

We walked into Common Restaurant feeling optimistic and started exactly the right way with a cocktail. This thing was a work of art. Crafted with intention. Mixed with respect. Balanced like it went to culinary finishing school. If the entire meal had followed this cocktail's lead, I would be writing a love letter instead of a review. Then came the sweet potato gnocchi. Highly acclaimed. Revered. Spoken about in hushed tones online. Unfortunately, it tasted like sage and butter got into a heated argument and nobody intervened. The butter was burnt. Not toasted. Burnt. There was an overwhelming bitterness that clung to every bite like it had something to prove. We gave it a fair shot and then quietly waved the white flag and moved on. Next up was the fried green tomato caprese salad, recommended enthusiastically by the staff. And to be fair, the fried green tomatoes were excellent. Crisp. Well seasoned. Textbook execution. The mozzarella was fresh and clean and exactly what you want it to be. The basil sauce was delicious but used so sparingly that it felt like it was being rationed. This sauce could have been the lead singer but was instead stuck playing tambourine in the background. Then there were the cherry tomatoes. Allegedly part of the dish. Hidden. Sparse. Distributed like it was wartime in the Soviet bloc. Blink and you miss them. The garlic aioli, however, came in like a hero and absolutely saved the plate. Rich, flavorful, and doing most of the heavy lifting by itself. This restaurant is highly acclaimed, beautifully presented, and clearly thoughtful. But on this visit, the kitchen underperformed. Great ideas. Great components. Execution that just did not come together. I would absolutely come back for cocktails. I just hope next time the food shows up ready to match the confidence of the bar.

The food, drinks, and service here are beyond incredible. I visited from out of town and would now add this as a must-eat place in Savannah. We had a large table and every single dish people ordered was delicious, as were the cocktails. The meal and drinks are well worth the price. I left feeling full and content.

Such a nice brunch at common restaurant for my friend's bachelorette weekend. We were given an upstairs table which felt cozy and private for our celebration. Our table had a lovely card sending well wishes to our bride. We got the cinnamon toast bread to split which was excellent, and I had the duck and sweet potato hash which had so much flavor. I especially loved the bell pepper and mushroom with the hash. My friends said their fried chicken sandwich was one of the best they've ever had, and I loved my Bloody Mary, especially the sweet syrup with the tajin rim. Lastly, our waitress gave us a complimentary round of champagne to toast to our bride, thank you so much!!

Gnocchi

This was an expensive restaurant but the food was not as tasty. Almost everyone at our table did not finish their entrees. The appetizers tasted better. There was also no complementary bread and only ones to order. There were only 2 pieces for the forager bruchetta which were overpriced. The sweet potato gnocchi had a nice tasting sauce. The Brussel sprouts were also delicious with a nice spicy sauce. The smoked oyster Rockefeller was also delicious. The short rib ravioli lacked flavor. The white seafood gumbo was way too creamy to even eat. The seafood fra diavolo had a nice spicy kick but the lobster was not cooked on the inside. The mahi in the pineapple situation was cooked well since it was not too hard but the rice had way too much sweet and sour sauce to eat. For dessert the banana pudding was my favorite. The New York cheesecake was good too along with the pineapple on top. All the desserts were super sweet.

This was our favorite meal of the weekend. We made a reservation and arrived 30 minutes early so we sat at the bar and ordered a drink. Their drink menu along with the bartenders were top notch. We were sat on the 2nd floor overlooking the 1st floor dining room which was really nice. I had the Pineapple Situation as my meal and loved every bite. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Southern White Gumbo. Our dessert was top notch as well. Everything here from the hostess, bartender, the wait staff, ambiance, to the food made this a great experience. I would definitely recommend it.

Espresso martini

Great service and amazing food & drinks! Will definitely be back. Very well decorated with an elevated cozy ambiance. Our server recommended I try their espresso martini to drink and I was definitely not disappointed + the art on top made it almost too pretty to drink. I had the Brisket, Eggs & Gouda Grits and our friends had different dishes - I also tried the chicken and waffles. Both dishes were perfectly balanced, fresh and hot. The chicken and waffles probably could have easily fed 2 hungry people!

Wow, this has got to be the best pita I've ever had. They were so fluffy, warm, and well seasoned. We even got a second order. The labneh dip was phenomenal -- highly recommend for an appetizer or just a snack. We also shared to the falafel bites and the Alida Burger which was very tasty! We'll definitely be back for another visit the next time we're in Savannah!

What a beautiful picturesque place to have some bites and cocktails!…read more I was welcomed into this moody, velvety spot with a sweeping view of the river. Beautiful glass, marble, deep colors of navy, mauve, and gold. Service was wonderful, felt welcomed immediately. For my appetizer, I had the crab cake with homemade tartar sauce, which was a light, bright way to start the evening. For my entree, I had the filet mignon. The server will tell you, the menu says tapas, but the servings are larger than that. Meat portions are generous at 6 oz. My only complaint is that I ordered my steak medium and got closer to well done. At least the steak was still moist and not dried out, but I would be hesitant to do the steak again. The spinach risotto I had with it was creamy and cheesy, however, so that was nice. Other options for food include burrata, a charcuterie board, grilled shrimp, sea bass, salmon, scallops. The cocktails are the real star here. They fall under the categories "strong and adventurous," light fare," and "signature." Non-alcoholic cocktails are also available. I started with the medusa 1597, under "strong and adventurous." Made with Old Tom Gin, extra dry vermouth, truffle, grapefruit, and amaro, it was extremely strong. A bold, slow sipper I would have done better to have later in the evening, but I still appreciate the complexity of it. I also had the Bella primavera, a lighter cocktail under the signature section. Made with pisco, blanc vermouth, French herbal liqueur, watermelon, and basil leaf. A smoother, brighter, faster sip than the Medusa. And I also had the blood orange martini, made with French vodka, blood orange, lime, and cranberry. A little sweet, but not cloying, and again, would have been a better starter as opposed to a closer. I think when I return, I will ask the bartender to make me off the menu drinks. This place seems creative enough that the outcome would be fantastic. I loved this place. The vibe, the view, the service, the offerings. Can't wait to see what more they have in store.

Finally, I just asked her to come up with a solution because we had 15 minutes to kill and they didn't have a waiting area. Funny enough, she decided then to get our table ready. It was just odd. Our server was from Ukraine so she was efficient and fast. Not super friendly or chatty with us which missed the mark on Southern hospitality and made our experience feel cold compared to our previous dinner experiences in town. I don't fault her for it though as she did her job. We ordered an excessive amount of starters and some of the entrees. The stand outs for me was the crispy Brussels sprouts, roasted bone marrow, steamed mussels, and grilled octopus. Skip any of the bread options. They weren't even toasted. For entrees, we also decided to share them. The pork chop and NY strip were stand outs. We ended up sending back the halibut. It tasted mealy and freeze burnt. Skip the crispy Japanese eggplant.
