This is a staple in Savannah's and was a good stop after walking around. We sat at the bar while we defrosted from the cold outside and what better way of doing that then with a cold beer and some warm chicken. We got an order of chicken fingers and fries. I will say that these were nothing more shy than ordinary chicken fingers. I think these are OK at best but the bartender was really nice and was on top of us getting food and drinks swiftly. Tried Spanky's and was disappointed. For a place to be known for their chicken fingers, they were very bland and warm. Warm so not hot almost like they sat under a light until they were sold. For the side, I tried the spuds and those were very good. Service was ok. Another major issue I had was unfortunately I saw them taking trash out through the restaurant. My 14 year old granddaughter wanted to go to Spankys so Spankys it was. It took a little to get served, they sat us in the bar area but our server was assigned to the other side of the restaurant. She was very nice and tried hard. We ordered the family chicken since we were all going to order about the same, cost effective for sure. Absolutely insane. My partner who is almost 40 years old - we come to Savannah 2-4 times a year and have never been carded at a restaurant. He had his two week old expired id and a temp id from the state of New York; these are legal for driving in any us state. Any us state - the government issues it. It proves your age and ability to drive - there is no way you can get your license sooner. The waitress would not serve the drink and then on top of that the manager came over and was both rude and incredibly disrespectful. Saying it was Savannah law. When we first walked in, there were approximately 30 tables throughout the restaurant available. But the hostess said it would be 30 to 45 minute wait we took advantage of a wide open bar and asked if we could dine in there. They said yes. I ordered the sampler platter to share with my wife And was surprised at what came out: a total of six spuds that smelled like they share the frying oil with some form of fish, two frozen mozzarella sticks that were not in the fryer long enough still cold, fried pickles that were wilted and no batter on half of them. Was excited for the chicken, come to find out they were very soggy and undercooked, which was very scary. when I just wanted to leave and pay the bartender who had been complaining to other servers about how upset they were that people called in sick and she had fallen earlier in the day and was utterly disgusted asked was the food not good and why were we not eating it? All I wanted to do was pay, but immediately she brought the manager over and asked me to explain to her what was wrong with the food I told her how I felt and instantly she says did they have any alcoholic beverages? We came to Savannah with our three year old so multiple locals told us Spankys would be great for him. I think what they meant by that is they have kid friendly bar type food and it's not swanky like a lot of other places. Our server was good. We sat down and were immediately engaged with. (The host didn't seem to want to bother with us and didn't even give us a kids menu). We tried the spankys sampler to start. It was exactly that: a sampler of spuds, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, and fried pickles. The mozzarella sticks were very good. I wish they had more than two as part of the sampler as it was my favorite. The friend pickles were spears and piping hot. Pretty good but nothing spectacular. My husband loved the tenders and we both felt the spuds were fine. I feel like more seasoning might have helped liven them up. I asked the server what she recommended and she said that she loves the Philly cheesesteak. So I got that and honestly didn't love it. The big onions did not feel cooked enough and I wasn't impressed with the steak. (Server was awesome and noticed I didn't like it so she took it off the bill so I can't complain too much). My three year old got a pizza (plain cheese) and that was actually really good. All in all, it was a fine meal. We were walking down River Street and pausing to look at the menu outside when a woman said "It's really good!" So went in and were seated right away. This place is not fancy but the tables are clean, pleasant dining room, clean restrooms, etc. Being the original chicken finger, we ordered a basket to split and two beers. We were so disappointed today when visiting Spanky's for lunch. The website states that the opening for today was at 11 am. Employees were there but stated they "we are not open." we planned our entire day around our lunch at Spanky's and the Employee acted like smoking in front of restaurant was more important than actually opening for customers.
