Wow! We stopped here for a quick snack for my pregnant wife. Ordered their "fries" and a small 8 inch cheese pizza. Both hit the spot!! I would highly recommend this place for dinner or a snack at a VERY reasonable price in a busy tourist section where food tends to be overpriced. read more

Perhaps I would have said I liked the Fried Pickles and appreciated the extra dipping sauces they provide with the chicken. But... they're watering down their Jameson on St Patrick's Weekend. My girlfriend and I were in town for the weekend and we stopped riverside and had some drinks and apps. I won't go into the proprietors bizarre facial expressions filled with guilt and anxiety, that's subjective, I'll just stick to the things I might tell someone with the ATF: - when asked if I wanted another drink, I was suspicious and said "only if you crack open a fresh bottle for me" - The proprietor did not examine at any point what I claimed to be watered down (straight shot of "Jameson") compared to the shot from a freshly cracked bottle. - The bartender likely knew as well. She threw out the bottle while it still had maybe 5oz in it. - the proprietor bizarrely asked "who would do that? What would anyone stand to gain from it?" I simply replied "you... it lowers your overhead." - I was told to leave. And did, after telling him I firmly believe he is committing a crime. - I believe he may have put some caramel color in the water too. Do not support his business - I encourage the proprietor to show his cameras from Saturday 3/19/22 to dispute anything of what I said, and others from Savannah to speak up if they may have experienced something similar. read more

Waitress was kind and other staff you could tell they love to work there! They have a lot of fried options, which can be underwhelming. Great eating place. Fast and friendly service. Loved the retro decor. Sharon had the fried flounder and fries. Perfectly cooked and served immediately after cooking. I ordered the fried veggie platter and a side of fried shrimp. The platter consisted of Mushrooms, Zucchini, Yellow Squash, Cauliflower and Broccoli. The platter was outstanding except for the Broccoli, which was overly cooked. The fresh squeezed lemonade was to die for. If you are on Riverstreet you must eat here. I highly recommend Spanky's. Had the pleasure of going to Savannah for a business meeting recently. It was quite chilly so we stopped into Spankys after walking along the river. The guys had beer and appetizers. I've been here a few times and I give it a 3 star because their wine list is so terrible. They literally only serve Barefoot wines and while I understand this is a bar, they could have just a little better selection. These guys are known for chicken for good reason -- it is good. To eat here you also have to like fried food. Those things out of the way and you are good. Oh my! The seafood at this river walk location is on fire. This is sports bar meets southern fish fry. Even as a tourist spot, you walk in and find you're seated and served quickly. I popped in on a Wednesday and the drinks were dirt-cheap due to a special. That set the table for the best fried fish and fried fish platter I've ever enjoyed. The fish was oh so fresh! And the cocktail sauce has plenty of horseradish for the right amount of kick. And the prices were more than fair. I'll be back when I'm in Savannah. read more

Despite its location in a touristy area, the food and service are both 5-star. Our waitress has worked there 33 years and has a smile and super warm demeanor. We got the shrimp and fish platter with Spanky spuds - one platter for two of us was more than plenty. The fish was. By far, the best fried fish I've ever had. I visited Spankys on St. Patrick's day weekend which is known to be the busiest weekend ever to mankind in Savannah. We arrived around 9PM and to our surprise was able to be seated right away. Our server was very attentive and did not slack on us just because she had been there all day which was major. Spankys has the best spuds (fried potatoes rounds) in town and I highly recommend them over fries any day. Their horseradish honey sauce is also to die for. I had their shrimps with spuds after already indulging in a spuds appetizer. You couldn't have asked for better, perfectly, fried fresh shrimp in Savannah! My gf enjoyed their burger and fries, and my friend has their Philly cheese steak. Growing up in Savannah Spankys has always been a go to staple! Even on a very slow day, the service was not the best- it felt like the staff was all hanging out with their friends and not caring about those they did not know. The chicken strips were pretty weak- they might be the one of the first restaurants to have chicken strips but thank heaven chicken strips have become better over the years! We went as a group on a Tuesday night (10-12 of us) just for drinks and apps. Bartender was really quick to serve us with good pours really quickly after we crowded his bar. Once we got our drinks we decided to grab a table and the waitress did a great job keeping our glasses full. We grabbed the sampler platter, the fried veges, and some nachos to share amongst the table and all were pretty delicious. Overall - may not be the fanciest place in Savannah but it has a fun vibe to it and great prices for the drinks and app. Maybe we'll try the pizza next time as I've heard good things. read more
