We stopped by Poe's Tavern in the afternoon, so it wasn't crowded, which made for a really relaxing lunch. Our server was top-notch--friendly, attentive, and always seemed to appear at just the right time. The atmosphere is full of fun details. I loved looking at all the pictures and signs, but I can't believe I'm saying this... the real showstopper is the restroom! Before you even get there, you walk through a little library area (maybe pick out some reading material? ), then inside the walls are covered in text with an audiobook playing in the background. It's one of the most unique restaurant restrooms I've ever seen. Now, let's talk about the food. As a vegetarian living in the South, I've gotten used to surviving on side dishes or ordering yet another mediocre veggie burger. We came specifically for the burgers, and they absolutely did not disappoint. My husband said his beef burger was one of the best he's ever had, and I thoroughly enjoyed my veggie burger too. The fries were excellent as well. We'll definitely be back. If you're looking to escape the heat, grab a great burger, and enjoy a cold drink in a fun, unique atmosphere, Poe's Tavern is absolutely worth a visit!

"Filled with mingled cream and amber, I will drain that glass again... I am drinking ale today" (Lines on Ale by Edgar Allen Poe) Poe's Tavern in Savannah Georgia nestled in what I believe used to be a Fire Station sits a tribute to Edgar Allen Poe. The draw by literary fans of his work both young and old is evident as they take in the pictures of his likeness and read his works pasted on the wall. We do recommend making reservations on a busy night like we found ourselves. This is a must in popular spots here during peak times. The food had several burgers and chicken sandwiches named after his work. I ate the "Tell Tale Heart" a seasoned burger with cheddar cheese, bacon and a fried eggs with a side of fries. It was good and other choices reminiscent of tavern fare. "Lines on Ale" possibly written as a way for Poe to pay a bar tab makes me think that maybe he would have actually spent a night here having some ale while scribing his next literary classic alas... nevermore.

After having tried out their Wrightsville Beach location just outside of Wilmington, I knew the Savannah location of Poe's Tavern would be a reliable option for a meal. They take reservations via Resy, which would be recommended during busier tourism periods. It's ideally located just steps from the riverside and JW Marriott hotel. The main dining area is tastefully decorated with all the images and posters related to Edgar Allen Poe, but the bar area sticks out like a sore thumb with practically no decor whatsoever. We started off with the chips and queso dip (3/5). It wasn't overly strong on the cheese flavor, and it didn't have any sort of zest or kick to it, so a bit on the bland side. For meals, we went with the Gold Bug cheeseburger and Amontillado chicken sandwich. Both of these were a solid 4/5, as they were filling and well prepared using high quality ingredients, although the fries (3/5) were merely average, as were the crispy onions that came with the sandwiches. Service (4/5) was friendly and cordial, and our waitress was kind enough to proactively offer us a refill of chips when she saw we were running low on them. Overall, this was a good meal and would recommend Poe's Tavern to others visiting Savannah.

We came to Poe's Tavern hoping to watch the second half of the Husker game. When we walked in, a server saw my husband's Huskers hat and told him which tv had our game on and where to sit for a good view of it. The tavern is inspired by Edgar Alan Poe and the walls are covered in Poe-themed art. We sat at the bar and were greeted promptly by our server. My husband tried the Mountain Jam Southern Lager and I ordered a Poe's Punch. The punch was delicious, fruity without being overly sweet. We weren't hungry enough for a meal so we split an order of chips and queso and a chicken quesadilla. Both were very good. For the dog lovers, this place is pet friendly. It was Wag-o-Ween the day we were there, and the covered patio section where we were sitting had a half dozen customers with dogs in Halloween costumes. As a fun little adventure, Poe's hides mini ravens around the restaurant--if you find one, you get a prize. I found one! We are so glad we tried this place. Highly recommend.

Service was excellent to go with the fabulous tasting food. I had the sleeper burger and it was cooked to perfection, I had the bacon blue cheese coleslaw as my side. It was a great flavor combination that I wouldn't have thought of. My husband had the brisket burger and potato salad. He loved both! We had the cheese quesadillas and they were delicious. The place is in a great location and the decor is perfect for all the Edgar Allan Poe fans. The noise level was not bad as you could talk to each other without shouting.

    Beef Rue Morge. Onion Straws.

The onion straws were no better than French fried onion you put on top of a green bean casserole. I paid a $2 up charge for this as a side and I got something cold that taste like it came from a can. The salad was not very good. There was one good item on the menu, the Beef Rue Morgue. Best dish and I would go back for this. Too bad my husband ordered it as I was stuck with blah onion straws and droopy salad.

The ambiance is perfect for a date or a gathering. The decor fits the esthetic; the music was low, but just the right touch. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our meals! We'd definitely recommend visiting this place if you're a fan of Poe and yummy southern dishes.

Awesome place for some food! The food is delicious and the staff were great. The venue is very great to hangout with co-workers or friends. Definitely worth the trip to try!

I got the blackened salmon fish tacos and I was so excited to eat them. They looked good but tasted slightly old and dull. Had to drown it out with cholula hot sauce. The atmosphere & menu are seriously cool though

I am in savannah to see a savannah bananas game, with my son, who is a vegetarian. Per Yelp, Poe's Tavern had vegetarian options and it just so happened its directly across the street from our hotel. The atmosphere was nice, the staff very friendly and ,yes, good options for a vegetarian. They have a large burger selection, all named after Edgar Allen Poes books. Each burger comes either beef or vegetarian. My son had one with a name i can't pronounce which had guacamole, aoili, lettuce, tomato and pickle. All come with a side, he chose potato salad. He liked the burger and said the potato salad was good but oniony. I had buffalo shrimp tacos ..the dish had 2 tacos with 5 shrimp each in them, shredded cabbage and choice of bleu cheese or ranch. I chose onion straws as my side. The tacos were delicious and I couldn't finish it all. Our server Chris was excellent. Our drinks were never empty and he was very attentive. We may go back while we're here. I recommend this establishment

Stopped by after hearing good things and enjoyed the place. The burger was really delicious and cooked perfectly. The sides, however, were sub par. The fries that came with the burger were not crispy at all and kind of soggy and bland. The coleslaw looked unique with bacon and blue cheese was extremely watery and tasted almost bitter. Would go back, but for the burger only. Service was good.

The service was great. Super attentive and seemed to operate as a team. Our server was Grey she really did great with recommendations and keeping our drinks full. Food hit the mark, fresh and good amount. Price on par with area . Ample and comfortable seating. Would eat here again.

I had the Valencian Spritz (reposado, orange aperitif wine, fresh orange, white pepper, and cava) which was the perfect summer drink. My husband had the Soft Light mocktail (zero proof gin, papaya, kefir, and saline). For food, we started with the Labneh dip topped with olive oil, za'atar, and honey with fresh pitas on the side. Wow, this has got to be the best pita I've ever had. They were so fluffy, warm, and well seasoned. We even got a second order. The labneh dip was phenomenal -- highly recommend for an appetizer or just a snack. We also shared to the falafel bites and the Alida Burger which was very tasty! A touch methodical, but they were good, at least the ones my wife enjoyed. Like at every other bar in Savannah, per the ordinances, there is a door person who checks IDs, so make sure you have it. When I walked in, I was gazing around and then all of a sudden, a man appeared asking for ID. They usually have someone watching from the top of the stairs or from the level you enter, but they will check you so keep note if you're not used to bringing your ID with you (not sure why you wouldn't, but I digress).

Beautiful glass, marble, deep colors of navy, mauve, and gold. Service was wonderful, felt welcomed immediately. For my appetizer, I had the crab cake with homemade tartar sauce, which was a light, bright way to start the evening. For my entree, I had the filet mignon. The server will tell you, the menu says tapas, but the servings are larger than that. Meat portions are generous at 6 oz. My only complaint is that I ordered my steak medium and got closer to well done. At least the steak was still moist and not dried out, but I would be hesitant to do the steak again. The spinach risotto I had with it was creamy and cheesy, however, so that was nice. Other options for food include burrata, a charcuterie board, grilled shrimp, sea bass, salmon, scallops. The cocktails are the real star here. They fall under the categories "strong and adventurous," light fare," and "signature." Non-alcoholic cocktails are also available. I started with the medusa 1597, under "strong and adventurous." Made with Old Tom Gin, extra dry vermouth, truffle, grapefruit, and amaro, it was extremely strong. A bold, slow sipper I would have done better to have later in the evening, but I still appreciate the complexity of it. I also had the Bella primavera, a lighter cocktail under the signature section. Made with pisco, blanc vermouth, French herbal liqueur, watermelon, and basil leaf. A smoother, brighter, faster sip than the Medusa. And I also had the blood orange martini, made with French vodka, blood orange, lime, and cranberry. A little sweet, but not cloying, and again, would have been a better starter as opposed to a closer. I think when I return, I will ask the bartender to make me off the menu drinks. This place seems creative enough that the outcome would be fantastic. I loved this place. The vibe, the view, the service, the offerings. Can't wait to see what more they have in store.

Naturally, I pulled up Yelp and found this place, which had great reviews. We decided to venture away from the area we had been exploring and walked across the street, only to find ourselves staring at a Chinese restaurant with absolutely no indication of where the sushi restaurant was located. We walked all the way to the right thinking we must have missed it, but still nothing. Then, almost by accident, we looked down an alleyway and there it was--hidden in plain sight. By this point, I was extremely hungry and definitely not in the mood for a game of hide-and-seek. After climbing a flight of stairs, we entered a very dark and intimate space with a small bar area. We usually prefer sitting at the bar, but there weren't any available seats, so the hostess seated us at a tiny round table that felt more like something you'd find in a café. The atmosphere was definitely giving romantic date-night vibes. We ordered two specialty sushi rolls. One was a mango roll, and the other had me sold the moment I saw the word truffle as a special. The truffle roll was easily my favorite, although both were delicious. I also ordered a passion fruit cocktail, which I'd rate a solid 9 out of 10. I don't normally go for sweet drinks, but when on Rome, why not? This was not overly sweet but still one and done for me. Since we were only in town for one night and wanted to experience as many places as possible, we stuck with the two rolls and drinks before heading back out to continue exploring. Overall, this place is incredibly cute, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was perfect for a date night. My only complaint is how difficult it was to find. If you're starving like I was, wandering around searching for the entrance might test your patience. Once you finally find it, though, it's worth the effort.

There are several drink options with your choice of spirit. The mixologist was lovely! She was super attentive and patient (i knew what I wanted, but was indecisive with all the choices). The prices are normal for downtown Savannah, but love that there's the decor and fun drink options that make it feel worth it. Last call is earlier than some other places, so be mindful of that. Unsure what it will turn into at the end of July, but either way, give this spot a try!
