We went on a Saturday night in January and waited about 30 minutes for a table. Once we were seated, we ordered quickly and the food was on the table within 15 minutes. The food was hot and fresh. I mean the French fries burned my tongue! (But in a good way). Neither my companion nor I loved the coleslaw as we are very picky about our coleslaw. But everything else was delicious. Our server was great too but I can't recall her name. They got the tables cleaned quickly for the next guests to come in. We heard great things about Crystal Beer Parlor and knew we had to stop in during our weekend trip to Savannah. It was quite busy when we got there so we put our name in and grabbed a drink at the bar. They have a little gift shop and outdoor seating area where you can sit while you wait so it made the time go quickly. Our table was ready before the time they quoted us and our server greeted us promptly. Service was quick and our food came out fast for how many tables were filled. We got the pretzel thats as big as a steering wheel (the menu says that) and the crab puppies (I think that was the name) for apps. Both were delicious. We got an assortment of entrees at the table, burger, some seafood, etc. Everything was hot, tasted fresh and we enjoyed it all. Got there right as it opened and followed in a mess of police officers heading for lunch. That should tell you something. The room was old-timey, but nicer than I expected to see. Bathrooms were clean. Service was on-it and management was circulating the whole time we were there. I have been a loyal customer of Crystal Beer Parlor for approximately 14 years and have always enjoyed my experiences there. I have recommended this restaurant to countless friends, family members, church members, and visitors over the years because of the quality of the food and service I have historically received. Today, however, was a very disappointing experience. I brought my son, my nephew, and a member of my church to lunch. Three of us arrived first while we waited for the fourth member of our party. When I requested to be seated so that my hungry children could begin eating, the hostess informed me that we could not be seated until the entire party arrived. I explained that our fourth guest would be delayed and asked if we could simply be seated as a party of three and begin ordering. She declined and offered to get the manager. The manager then reiterated that we could not be seated until the fourth guest arrived. During the conversation, she explained that the owners are concerned about table turnover and that seating incomplete parties can impact how quickly tables are flipped. She proceeded to explain how the restaurant industry works and why this policy exists. As a customer, this was frustrating and disappointing to hear. Respectfully, discussions about table turnover, profitability, and restaurant operations are not concerns that customers should be expected to consider when simply trying to feed their families. My primary concern was that my children were hungry and that I intended to order food immediately, including appetizers and four full meals. What made this experience even more frustrating was that after I stated that I was prepared to sit down and order right away, I was then told that I could be seated. That left me confused as to why the situation required such resistance in the first place. More importantly, this entire interaction took place in front of my son and nephew. As a longtime patron, I felt embarrassed and undervalued. Over the years, I have been seated at Crystal Beer Parlor with incomplete parties on numerous occasions, which made the rigid enforcement of this policy today seem inconsistent with my past experiences. I still love Crystal Beer Parlor and hope this review is received as constructive feedback from someone who genuinely supports the restaurant. However, this experience left me feeling that customer hospitality took a back seat to operational concerns, and that was disappointing after so many years of loyalty. read more

Really a 3.75. Came around 7:50 and they close at 9 (our bad) no reservations so add your name to the list and get a buzzer. Was told it would be around 30 minutes, at 8:30 I asked my partner to check on our place and he was told she scratched our name off the list...why? Our buzzer hadn't been buzzed, name hadn't been called etc. When we were finally seated service was smooth. I got the sweet shrimp with fries and coleslaw. My partner got the burger although it came basically naked the waitress quickly took it back for the correct toppings. Both meals tasted great and I was happy the late dining time didn't affect the quality. Took the peach cobbler to go and it was super warm and yummy. First time here and came as a walk-in party of 2. There was a bit of the wait so we found spots at the bar and had a few drinks and the fried pickles app to start. They were delicious and came out piping hot! Once we got seated I ordered the salmon BLT with a side of mash and my husband got the pastrami sand which with fries. This place is right outside of the beaten path, but so worth the visit. Mainly went for the stuffed crab and it was everything that was raved about in other reviews. (Do be mindful of little shells, but it's worth picking out of your mouth for the amount of lumpy crabmeat, spices, and such.) The fried shrimp were the best we had in Savannah! They were huge and perfectly fried as were the oysters. The service was super friendly and helpful having gone above and beyond to help us find a recipe for Chatham Artillery Punch that had been alluding us for three days! Then I had shrimp and grits for my meal, tender sweet shrimp cooked perfectly in a bed of creamy, cheesy grits flavored with bell pepper and a bit of spice. Delicious. My wife had the flounder Ruben, and it was spectacular. She also had them make her a lemon drop martini that was so good she got one to go! Second night my wife ordered the shrimp and grits and I ordered the two seafood platter with blackened shrimp, deviled crab, Savanna Red Rice, and collard greens. The shrimp were amazing, sweet and cooked perfectly. I didn't care for the deviled crab... lots of filling, not much crab and just a strange flavor profile with mushy texture, the red rice was a decent side, and the collard greens were smoky and done well. Should have went with a different option than the deviled crab, but otherwise a solid meal. We finished by splitting a peach cobbler, and this might have been one of the best things we ate all trip... highly recommend! read more

We heard this was a popular place to eat in Savannah, so we knew we had to try it during our time here. We tried to come around 7:00pm on a Friday night, but the wait was an hour long. They do not take reservations. So we tried our luck again during the lunch hour the following Sunday. No problem getting a table then. Our server was friendly and very informative when we had questions about the menu. The Shrimp and Grits were excellent and full of flavor. Fried Green Tomatoes and the Creamy Crab Stew were tasty. The wait was for over an hour so we found a seat at the bar to have drinks and dinner. The moment we arrived at the bar to sit down and order our drinks, we were met with a welcoming of contempt and unwelcoming hospitality. The energy felt more like one of only accepting locals or only accepting non-minority customers. The bartender looked visibly unpleasant and not very polite. He wasn't outright rude but it felt unfriendly and uncomfortable. That energy carried on for the entire time. The plate I ordered was underwhelming. The crab meat was flavorful but that was the extent of that. The fried fish needed more seasoning. My daughter ordered the soup and salad. I will say the crab soup was super delicious. The soup was the highlight of that visit. The beer tap options are great. I was very pleased with their blonde ale, but I wouldn't visit again sadly. read more

After a long day hoofing around town in the heat, I wanted a cold beer. I was able to sit immediately at the bar. The drinks menu is longer than some places' food menu and on the front page of beers on tap, those made in Georgia and in Savannah are helpfully marked. I ordered a nice local lager and the shrimp salad sandwich. I appreciated the long list of choices for sides, more than just fries and sweet potato fries. There was Cole slaw and greens and I had the cornbread. Service was fast and accurate. At least two of the bartenders checked on me from time to time. I would have had a second beer if I hadn't been so tired already with a long walk back to the car still ahead of me. The dining room was not terribly noisy, and it was more than half full in the middle of the afternoon. I wish there was something besides golf on the tv, but I guess I didn't watch it anyway. Spousal Unit and I were in town to visit friends and watch a Savannah Banans game (OK, technically Firefighters vs Party Animals - but we're seated behind a few Bananas. Watching the game. Fun!). They also had a wide selection of beers, including items from local breweries. We tried a local sour and immediately visited the brewery (Two Tides Brewing Co.) after our lunch. My table of three shared a salad, shrimp and grits, crab soup, and complimentary peach cobbler. The crab soup was incredible-- we absolutely considered ordering another one. It has been in continuous operation since 1933 and has been patronized by many hollywood A listers as well as the three stooges. Yes, that's moe/larry/curley with photo proof hanging throughout. We visited last week on our Girls Trip 2026. This is one of the restaurants that were recommended. We were a party of 9 without reservations on Tuesday May 12th during lunch hour. While the staff prepared our table, we shopped in the little shop attached to the restaurant. We made purchases. Everyone welcomed us with Southern Charm from the two women in the shop, hostess, our server, and another customer. The 1/2 shrimp salad sandwich with she crab soup were delicious, shrimp and grits-excellent, the onion rings the best I have ever tasted. We must not forget the Reuben sandwich. When I called to place my to-go order, he was pleasant and had a DJ-style voice that sounds like he should be on the radio! His suggested pickup time was spot on, and my order was perfect. Visited Savannah in the fall and had a delicious meal at Crystal Beer Parlor. We started the evening with a Tybee sunset, Grand margarita, and amazing crab puppies--by far the best hush puppy I've ever had, probably because there was so much crab, it reminded me of crab cakes. Highly recommend. For entrees, we ordered pimento pig. Ended the meal with the mouth watering peach cobbler. This is the best cobbler I've ever tasted. Can't wait to have another order soon! You gotta try this historic beer parlor around since the 1930s! They had a ton of beers to choose from both on tap and in cans/bottles. The walls are adorned with all kinds of antique pictures and decorations. It was fun to look around at everything while we waited for our food. The bar is long with wooden barstools that really just scream nostalgia. The food menu is big and I would describe it as upscale diner type food. We shared crab puppies that were absolutely delicious! They were packed with crab meat and felt like eating a crabcake. We shared a fried flounder Rueben which is honestly more of my husband's thing, not mine. It was good if you like that sort of thing. He thought the sandwich was incredible.
