Planters tavern has a wonderful ambiance, and waiters are super friendly. We came at 6pm and while they said there was a 2hour wait, it wound up only being 30 minutes. So we got there for 6:30, and knew we had to leave by 8:20, as we had a ghost tour shortly thereafter and we told our waiter as such. Unfortunately, despite not ordering an appetizer and going straight to mains, we didn't get our dinner until 7:55pm. The reason it happened was the waiter accidentally ordered us the seafood special, not the steak special. They were apologetic about it, but still, a dinner we were looking forward to turned to a rushed scarfing down of food. Would have been nice if they comped one of the dinners, or offered a free round of drinks for the inconvenience. As for the meal itself - the shrimp dinner was meh - only came with 6 shrimp for $32 (pirates house shrimp dinner tasted better and came with over a dozen large shrimp). The ribeye was perfectly cooked, but needed more seasoning. My guess is because they rushed it, they may have forgotten the salt. The steak sauce (tamarind forward a1) wasn't my cup of tea. On the positives - both of the sides were amazing - highly recommend they put those on the main menu. All in all - there's too many good restaurants in Savannah, I doubt I'll be coming back. Another great meal at Planters! Packed as usual and we didn't have a reservation, but we were able to put our name in and snag a seat at the bar about an hour later. Service at the bar was great. They had live music with a piano player and upright bass player. Very festive and relaxing vibe. I swear I think the lighting is darker every time I come here or maybe I'm just getting older! Had the special, which was a bone-in pork chop cooked to perfection! It sat atop mashed potatoes and also came with a side of brussels sprouts. Overall, great meal, except the brussels sprouts were unfortunately inedible. Someone obviously made a mistake in the kitchen and dumped way too much salt all over these, they were so salty one bite would burn your mouth. I would say this is a must visit while in Savannah. The atmosphere caters to a lot of people, including me. Both the upstairs (Olde Pink House) and the downstairs tavern open at 5pm, and I was the only one in line outside for the Tavern, so I walked down the stairs and went inside. Upon entering..there were already a few customers sitting in tables. I guess they must have come from the rear stairs after entering the pink house first. I tried to do that same thing, but was told to go outside and wait on the sidewalk by the steps. Either way, I came alone, so I automatically sat at the bar right when i entered. The bartender was super informative and not intrusive at all. I tried the planters punch. How can you go wrong ordering that when Planter's is already in the name of the business? I asked for the biscuits because the 2nd person to come up to me, a waiter who took my order, didn't ask if I wanted any. They came out, and they are super soft, fluffy, and delicious. Add a little butter, and they are even better. For my entree, I tried the grilled pork tenderloin. It's not the number one dish most people would order, but it seemed substantial without breaking the bank. I subbed the sweet potato for twice baked potato and kept the collards. This tenderloin is small but so tender and delicious and comes with a brown sauce. The waiter can also add fresh cracked pepper to your dish. So I added that. A Deeply Disappointing and Racist Experience During our first visit to Savannah, my husband and I were excited to try Planters after hearing so many wonderful things. Unfortunately, what should have been a memorable evening turned into one of the most humiliating experiences I've ever had while traveling. Upon arriving at the Planters Tavern I was immediately met with hostility from the hostess, who refused to let me through the door. She coldly informed me there would be a 45-minute wait for a table. When I asked if I could wait at the bar and enjoy a drink, she flatly said no and added that this place was "very tricky to get into." Her demeanor made it painfully clear that I was unwelcome. At this point, my husband spoke to the manager and explained what had just happened. The manager was apologetic, found us a table, and offered to cover our dinner and drinks in an effort to make things right. While we appreciated the gesture, the damage had already been done. As a Black woman who has traveled extensively, I have never felt so mortified, embarrassed, and small. The treatment I received from that hostess was nothing short of racists and it tainted what should have been a special night. No guest should be made to feel like they don't belong. We chose to spend our money here, but we will never make that mistake again land I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant to anyone. Upon walking up to The Olde Pink House you just get a flashback of what happiness was seeing your parents together. At least that's how it felt to me. My Husband and I were celebrating my work anniversary and his birthday in Savannah. I had seen how romantic and scrumptious the food looks at Planters Tavern, that's exactly what I wanted to start off our vacation. When you walk into the The Olde Pink House you're just probably taking it all in how beautiful all the decorations look. You can tell a lot of work and thought was put into it. Once you begin walking down the spiral staircase you'll start seeing these beautiful candlelit tables everywhere and hopefully someone playing the piano. At least when we were there around 10 p.m. we had back to back songs that brought back tons of memories. It was very fitting. The service is one of a kind. Thank you so much to Meredith for taking care of us, appreciated her recommendations. We ordered the fried chicken with macaroni and cheese and pulled pork sliders with a sweet potato with pecan vanilla butter. Meredith brought us fresh biscuits and three different dipping sauces for the fried chicken and everything was cooked to perfection. We ordered I believe called the planter's punch. The flavor was exactly what we needed along with the music being played during a perfect meal. Thank you also to the awesome bartender who not only made delicious cocktails but also spoke baseball with us. I highly recommend there's also two separate rooms you may reserve downstairs for extra privacy. We sat between the fireplace and bar and it was perfect for us two. Tavern offers beautiful live music with piano and this is where me and my girlfriend fell in love just while we found this randomly on a Christmas Eve. The food here is my all favorite in the entire America. The rich taste, presentation and diversity are among some of the things that make it a special place. I love their blackened oyster, salmon, flounder, ravioli etc... you can't go wrong with any of the dish. To celebrate our togatherness we recently went again and we order blackened oyester, crispy flounder, salmon and sweet potato ravioli. It was like heaven. Stopped in twice on our last visit to Savannah. First we stopped for a quick adult beverage at the bar. The staff were so nice, the environment so cozy and the menu so interesting, we made reservations and came back the next night for dinner. The lighting is very low and we did need to use a light to see the menu. But once that is done, it makes for a very cozy dining experience. They even have a couple of small rooms behind the fireplace. The décor is nautical. Staff are dressed professionally. The menu is eclectic. I can't say if it was clean or not as it was too dark to tell! :D There is no parking here, but a garage is about a block away. We walked from our hotel as we were staying nearby. We very much enjoyed our dinner and would definitely return on our next visit to Savannah. Went to the downstairs tavern attached to the Olde Pink House prior to dinner reservation upstairs. It was very busy but we were able to get a seat at the bar after waiting a few minutes. Service was fantastic. Charlene, our bartender helped my girlfriend with an impromptu wine tasting to get the perfect wine. My cocktail was delicious. Ambiance was terrific with lit fireplaces and live piano music. Decorated well for Christmas, which really added to the evening. Felt like walking into an old tavern from the past. The best food in Savannah in the coolest bar in town We recently enjoyed a three night stay in Savannah and treated ourselves to some of the finer restaurants in Savannah. The best food by far was at the Planters Tavern (The Olde Pink House was booked farther in advance than I had anticipated...apparently there was a festival that weekend). We opted for a Cheese Plate accompanied by traditional Southern favorites - fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Chicken, and Green Beans. I know they probably sounds like boring choices but all of them were truly exemplary. And our drinks, The Proper and a Jalapeno Margarita were also fabulous. The service was perfect...but it was the atmosphere that blew us away. Dark, woodsy, and unique, we were given a nice table next to the fireplace (we got in line early). Go. Just Go. read more

We waited about two hours for a table after looking this place up on a whim. We explored other spots nearby in the interim (e.g., Drayton Hotel rooftop). The pork tenderloin was cooked exquisitely and combined with the glaze, sweet potato and greens, it was the best pork tenderloin I've ever tasted. The blackened oysters were flavorful but small in meat. The praline basket was a killer finisher. Only reason for star deduction was for off-menu cocktails. Let me start with saying this was my first time here. I told my fiancé that anyone can do good food but to do good food & good service is tough. The places that are spectacular get you on both. That is what we experienced. We had to wait about 2 hours as there's no reservations. We ordered the shrimp roll as an appetizer and drinks while we waited. We had a great waiter, Eric. I ordered the pork tenderloin & my fiancé got the scallops. Both were great but let me tell you, the pork tenderloin was amazing. It was cooked perfectly. The sauce on top was a little saltier than I normally eat my food but still amazing. Sweet potato was great too. The manager continued to check on us throughout the night & even followed us out to say thank you for dining with them. I can't say enough good things about them, except the long waits. We had hoped to dine at the Olde Pink House restaurant but we were foolish to think that we could get reservations a few days in advance - more like 3 to 4 weeks if you want a weekend time. Fortunately, our hotel concierge (at the Planter's Inn) suggested we try the Planters Tavern. Same menu, same building (in the basement), and first come first serve. He recommended we get there significantly before they opened at 5 PM. Great advice! We arrived at 4:25 on a Friday and were about the eighth party in line. We managed to get the last table, although others behind us were able to be seated at the bar. The ambience of the Planters Tavern was fantastic. Quite dark and romantic, and definitely an older historic basement building feel. Lots of nooks and crannies and small rooms, vs. one big open space. We ordered crab cakes and fried green tomatoes as appetizers, and crab-stuffed halibut and pan seared salmon as entrees. Dessert was pecan pie with vanilla bean ice cream. Everything was terrific!! Our server Shaun was very attentive but not overbearing, and had good suggestions for beers, cocktails, and food favorites. All in all, one of our best dining experiences ever. Came down here before a reservation at the pink house to have a drink. Really good ambiance down there but definitely wouldn't go again unless I had a reservation because it's crammed. Had a bit of a miscommunication with the bartender that we wanted our drinks to-go because we were just going to sit outside and wait. We got them in glasses so before we left I asked someone if we could take them and leave them at our table upstairs, she said yes but another miscommunication, probably my fault, I guess she thought we were staying in the building and going up the stairs to the restaurant. But anyway, I turned and was about to open the door outside and a waiter bolted over there and BLOCKADED I mean literally wedged himself between myself and the door arms spread wide and said no glass outside. I thought he was joking it was such a dramatic entrance. I explained the miscommunication that we were going upstairs and from what I understood it wasn't a problem, he was visibly upset about it but grabbed plastic cups for us and we left. Again this is probably a one off because it was so busy in there and I should have assumed no glass outside. But the way it was approached was embarrassing for our group. Sevice by John was superior. The Salmon was crispy on the outside and juicy, flaky goodness on the inside. If you like whole sweet potatoes, they serve it with a pecan caramel butter sauce. Loved our stop off in the bowels of The Old Pink House. Everything we love in a historic tavern. Bricked up catacombs perfect for a cocktail and a nosh. The atmosphere is the type that only maintained and continuous history can provide. Food is the same as upstairs and very good at that. Drinks were inventive and well made. Service was excellent. If you can't score reservations upstairs (and that's a good bet). Head over 15 minutes before opening and queue up on the stairs with the other lucky ducks. You'll love it. read more

Ok. We had an amazing meal at The Olde Pink House. You can't go wrong eating there. After our meal we walked downstairs just to check out Planters Tavern. Very cool bar. Dark wood, metal accents, candle lit, and romantic. The entire menu from upstairs is available down here. We immediately regretted not eating in this atmosphere. We grabbed a cocktail and took it all in for a bit and then planned our return trip. That return trip ended up being the following night. They don't take reservations so we showed up about 6 pm to try and secure a table. They open at 5. We weren't able to get a table to ourselves but we did secure a couple spots at the bar. Looking back this is definitely the way to go. We had a couple cocktails and watched the bartenders do their thing for while before we ordered. We were also able to see dishes coming out to other guests so this helped our decision on what to order. The wife had what she called "the best steak she ever had". 8 oz filet that was a perfect medium rare. I sampled. It was killer. It was pepper crusted with a rich demi glacé. And again it was cooked perfectly. I had the pan seared salmon with horseradish whipped potatoes. Had never heard of horseradish potatoes before but I now know what we're having with our Thanksgiving turkey this year. Man they were good! I went to planters tavern on Saturday night. The hostess was lovely, and able to seat my friend and I at the bar immediately. Upon sitting down, it took the bartender almost 15 minutes to get our drink order. After another 15, we ordered food. All of the bartenders were so rude! Especially the older man with the glasses. We were derided for being from out of town and made to feel very very unwelcome. We were slaughtered with many rude quips after showing California IDs. We finished our apps and drinks and left as soon as we can. Such a shame because the food was great and we were entirely intending on ordering entrees. Just moved to Savannah and will definitely not return! I went to church this Sunday in hopes to find internal forgiveness for these bartenders, but even the lord himself couldn't convince me, hence this review. read more
