Came here for brunch on Sunday morning. We didn't have a reservation and a line was pretty long. We waited for over 20 minutes to be seated. It gets super busy. The ambience is pretty traditional diner, I would recommend seating outside if weather allows, it's much more pleasant than seating outside. Service was friendly and attentive and very quick. They have a large selection of dishes. I had crab cake Benedict. Which was pretty good. We also had some decaf drip coffee. Our toddler got some pancakes that were really good. Very popular breakfast spot! They are known for pancakes! Menu has the usual breakfast foods. Only pork meats. No turkey bacon or chicken sausage. They only seat complete parties. I really enjoyed Clary's cafe, it's crazy i lived here for years and never heard of it until my friend made the recommendation . i enjoyed everything about it, i would say it is a hidden gem but it was very busy that morning. we had a slight wait but nothing a walk to the park and back couldn't fix, it has a great location. The food was great, 10/10. i loveddddd the pancake the most omg. This cafe didn't disappoint, it's a Savannah classic! There was a line outside, but it went quick. Going inside, you feel like you stepped back in time. Clary's is definitely on old hidden gem and staple in Savannah. It's been years since I have visited and recently when I was craving homemade corned beef, to Clary's I went! Surprisingly, there was NO wait; so I was able to get a table right away. The place still looks exactly the same and the food still tastes the same. I had the corned beef plate with egg whites and cheese grits. Everything was really good. I did get a cheese danish to go, which was ok; it kind of lacked flavor for me. It's crazy to admit that I'm a local and have only JUST now tried Clary's. I have been missing out! I ordered the crab cakes benedict. I was beyond impressed with the amount of crab in the crab cakes!!! Crab cakes can be hit or miss because often places will use a lot of binder to use less crab. Not here!! Well, our first time here and we weren't disappointed. We were actually with friends who have been here before and their first visit made them remember this place out of all the options you have. A nice place. Appeared clean and was very open and comfortable. Staff were all very friendly and our server, despite being very busy, did a good job serving us. As for our meals: very very good. I had the chicken fried steak with two medium eggs, potatoes, and toast. I really enjoyed it. The wifey and one of our friends had sausage-biscuits and pepper gravy. They also both liked it and wifey allowed me to sample the gravy. I will say this, it will not need added pepper. Had a really nice flavor. Oh, don't let me forget, they have their own "small" parking lot. Again it's small and can only serve a few cars but it was great not to have to park. This is a very simple diner with simple diner food. No frills, inexpensive, quick service, move em in move em out type of place. If you like that (which I do), then this is the place for you. Lunch here was good. No tables available outside, so inside it was. Little ambiance, but plenty of history here. The menu is extensive with lots of breakfast and lunch choices. We settled on the fish sandwich and a turkey club. You can get fries or chips with your sandwich, so we ordered one of each, but should have gone with the fries on both. I'm not normally a breakfast potato fan, but their cubed potatoes tasted like French fries and I loved them. I read reviews that the sausage gravy and biscuits were good. My husband was going to get that, but they were out. He opted for an omelet. I got the Olgethorpe with a substitution of the stuffed strawberry and cream cheese French toast instead of pancakes (Because I couldn't decide and everything sounded good.) If you're in Savannah looking for breakfast or lunch, Clary's is a must-visit. Just a few blocks up from Taylor Square, it's in a convenient, neighborhood location. We stopped for breakfast twice during a visit to the city, and both times sat at the outside tables. Very comfortable, with not much traffic on Abercorn Street, so it wasn't at all noisy or exhaust-fumed. I had probably the best egg white Greek Omelette ever - perfect amount of feta. On another visit, I tried the oatmeal, and that too with the finely chopped pecans, etc., was perfect (the brown sugar, on the side, thankfully). Deputy Yelper loved The Georgian on a biscuit, and on our repeat visit got a customized shrimp salad on a biscuit. Do order the grits - not usually our favorite, these were excellent (even without cheese). Waitstaff on both visits was very attentive, keeping that coffee mug re-filled. Yes, Clary's is referenced more than once in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," as the site were Berendt breakfasts and observes some of the Savannah eccentrics he writes about. read more
