The food was delicious and there are tables with griddles to make your own pancakes, which is pretty cool. The atmosphere is very bright, which may be an issue for those with hangovers. Lol Knocking off a star because our server is very unfriendly. She's all business, not smiling or saying good morning or asking how our day is going, nothing. With that said, I would come here again and hope someone else would serve us.
We went to The Funky Brunch Cafe , for breakfast and it was a nice place and pretty good food.
To start our waitress was AWESOME! She was so sweet and she kept calling me "baby" and it just made me smile. She was the definition of southern hospitality. The food was great. We had a group of 6 and everyone loved their food. My only complaint was a wind chime attached to a busy door which drove us all crazy because it was nonstop. Highly recommend this cafe though.
The inside of the restaurant is very eclectic, it's got an older hippie vibe to it with lots of faded colors. The server we had was pretty good, checking in on us frequently and he gave us good recommendations. For breakfast, we got a hot table, and some of the pancake batter so we can make our own pancakes, because that's awesome! Don't get me wrong; you take me to the grocery store and do I want to bag my own groceries? no. But cook our own pancakes, seems fun with your kid. The pancakes were good, and getting to see the art my daughter came up with was awesome. I got the black and blue sea grits, and they were pretty good. I thought there were some patches of grits that were pretty plain. Maybe if I'd have gotten some extra sauce, I could've mixed that in better so it wasn't bland at any point. A fun restaurant and worth the experience if you're gonna make your own pancakes.
It's one of our favorite downtown breakfast spots, and we only get the build your own breakfast sandwich with a biscuit. Never misses. Customer service always good and it's in the part of Broughton that's easier for parking.

It wasn't crowded and doesn't look like much from the outside, but this was the best breakfast we had during our trip! We both have strict gluten free diets and this place had tons of options! I ordered "the traitor" and substituted the biscuit for gluten free bread. The poached eggs and hollandaise sauce were the best I've ever had! I'd rate my breakfast a 10/10. My mother ordered "the clucker and the hen house" and she said it was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly and the hash browns were well seasoned. On top of the food being great, the service was top notch as well! We will definitely be back!
One night stay in Savannah so was looking for a spot for breakfast before hitting the road. I came across The Funky Brunch Cafe so decided to check it out. I got there just before 9am and it was still pretty empty. The hostess was seating the couple in front of me and saw I was alone and just said you go sit at the bar. I followed them in and asked if that was my only option. She asked what? And I asked if solos had to sit at the bar. There were only about 4 tables with people at them so it wasn't like they were hurting for tables; another lady overheard and said he can have a table. I was seated and got a polite server pretty quickly. After asking for recommendations, I settled on the Hangover. This was a bowl of hash browns with bacon, cheese, 2 eggs, topped with sausage gravy. Then you get a choice of toast or biscuit. The biscuit was very fluffy and tasted great. I was a bit confused about a strange taste in the meal however. There wasn't much if any seasoning but salt & pepper were on the table so that was fine. But there was an odd aftertaste from the gravy. It was almost like an anise/licorice aftertaste so it took away from me loving the dish. I noticed some of the tables had griddles inset in them and saw a family making their own pancakes. That's a fun experience but wasn't offered as an option for me, which was ok. I'd consider going back on a future trip, but there are plenty of other choices to consider as well.
I decided to dine at The Funky Brunch Café in Savannah since it was conveniently located near where I was staying on Broughton Street. I saw the griddles at many of the tables and loved the unique concept of making your own pancakes at the table, so, on the recommendation of our server, Kenya J., I ordered the Flippin' Funky at the Table. Of course, I couldn't stop at just pancakes and I added a single sunny-side-up egg to round out the meal. A cup of freshly squeezed orange juice paired perfectly with everything. Lots of families at the restaurant and despite it being a busy Sunday morning and getting busier and busier, Kenya was attentive and friendly throughout our visit. Cute place - the prices were reasonable, and both the food and the experience were memorable. Five stars - I'd definitely return!

The breakfast makes me happy And the Funky Brunch helps me. Such a good vibe in Savannah! (spin on Good Vibrations by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch from 1991) Cool brunch spot in historic Savannah with eclectic and colorful decor! There is an option to sit at a table with the grill to make your own pancakes. Indoors or outdoor seating is available. The servers have that Southern Hospitality and smiles that light up the room. Fresh orange juice. Tasty biscuits and grits! The creole grits have sausage and a kick. Decaf coffee in its carafe is a bit weak and not hot but that does not takeaway from a very good overall experience. read more
This place is a cool concept. Our food was just ok. It was very bland and not super special. We had great service and it's super reasonably priced. If we had our kids we would do the pancakes at the table. But decided to go with meals this time. It was all just ok :/. Nothing wrong with it though!!! read more
03.2026 Finally visited and love the aesthetics of this place! Met the owner and she's a beautiful person Ordered the black and blue as the description sounded tasty. Was met with unsalted grits that noone prepared me for. I was able to salt them up enough to complete the meal. If you prefer savory/salted grits you will either not enough them or will have to add salt. Yes I know there are variations of grit lovers and there's a big divide over salt vs sugar Sharing so those who love their grits like me won't be blind sided. The pancakes were on tiny plates but were really good!! Wanted to order the Kaulua drink but was told it wasn't actually Kaulua. My waitress became frustrated when I asked to see the bottle. Omg! In Savannah you have to dine here! Best ambiance and service. Stepped outside of my comfort zone ordered the salmon, eggs, cream cheese and capers omlet explosion of flavor best food in forever. My cousin had the Poisidieon Salad out of this world. Drowned with a carafe of peach mimosas. read more

The ambiance is the only reason they have a star from me and the fact that without a star there would be no review. The service was mediocre, if she was attentive she would've known that I didn't like any of my food. I literally took a small bite of everything and pushed it away. She walked over and said, "you need anything else?" I looked at her and didn't say anything, but my friend did and she walked away thinking everything was okay. The grits flavorless. The sausage gravy tasted like flour and water. The hashbrown were dry and flavorless. The sausage had good flavor but the fennel seeds and other ingredients could be tasted and it wasn't my thing texture wise. The eggs were the highlight of the meal once I added salt and pepper and that's sad. The black and blue was okay but the grits had no flavor and the meat didn't have much either so again the meal was bland. The highlight of this place is clearly the facts that you get to make your own pancakes on a griddle in front of you. I won't be returning. read more

Ummmm. Yummy!! The Black and Blue is off the charts yummy. The staff is fantastic (shout out to Kenya who was really nice and the reason I ordered what I did - which honestly, is worth a visit alone). The biscuit is perfectly fluffy and what other biscuits aspire to be. If there is one knock it is that while the location is good, at the end of Broughton, the ambiance is lacking, but it has outdoor seating and I came to eat not date! read more
The whole concept and set up of the Cafe is so cool. The color schemes and open seating was pleasing. The funky bread is a MUST try! It came out fresh, hot, and moist. Soo delicious. Love the idea of making your own pancakes at the table. Makes it fun, interactive, and super great for kids if you have any. Also ordered the Mimosa Carafe to share with my date. There is literally nothing bad to be said about this place. Their long wait lines are well deserved! Our wait was about 20 minutes. We strolled some nearby shops and then got a text saying they'd be ready for us in 5 minutes, so we headed back and they were! We sat outside, the weather was a little drizzly but they have a roof and it was perfect. Savannah is a dog friendly town, so you may get to share your space with a furry friend. Be prepared. Our server was friendly, attentive, and my coffee cup never went empty. I got The Hangover and it was the mostest, bestest, singularly awesome choice, exactly what I wanted. A bowl full of hash browns, covered with sausage gravy, melty cheese, a huge pile of crispy bacon bits, and topped with an egg. The biscuit that came with it was tender, buttery, and delicious! Spensyr opted for something called Black & Blue Sea Grits. Shrimp and grits has been elevated in this dish. Grits covered with a bleu cheese Mornay sauce, blackened shrimp AND lobster, plus bacon! Even a rainy day couldn't take the smile off our faces after chowing down here, and we will never complain about waiting for this spot again! read more

I loved everything in here. It's comfort food at its finest. It's all delicious and the table griddles are so cool. It's nice and brought inside and everyone inside is super nice. It's like being home inside the smells of pancakes, and deliciousness. The bloody Mary's are 10/10 perfect definitely a good way to start your day. Making your own pancakes your way are so good. The sausage gravy is some of the best I've ever had. Def coming back here when I visit Savannah. read more
This was a delightful place for breakfast. We did not do their signature experience of make your own pancakes at the griddle table, but it looked super fun. A great place for all of the Girl Scout troops visiting town. Their coffee is really good and they even gave us cups to go at no extra charge. Their fresh orange juice is also delicious and a bargain. Both of our meals were really good and we were full. My mom loved the grits and sausage topped with pickled okra. I loved you could get multiple toppings on hash browns. Service was attentive and really friendly. People seem to enjoy working here. read more

My fiance and me were looking for a brunch spot today that had pancakes and other brunch food, this brunch spot check all the boxes. I wanted the pancakes and went with Chocolate chip ones which tasted great and hit the spot! My fiance just wanted the eggs which she was happy with as well. The vibe was very funky to match the name of the spot and the service was fine. We came on a Sunday morning and to no ones surprise there was a wait. There's always a wait, but that just lets me know the food must be good here. So we put our name on the list and went for a short walk. Ten minutes later we go back and we ask for a seat at the bar since it's just the two of us and the hostess looked relieved. Haha. First things first we order our carafe of mimosas and water. We browse the menu and I decide to get Kevin's kombo with eggs over easy, hash browns which I added onions to, turkey sausage and a biscuit. My date gets the creole grits minus the pork. Now I'm not a grits person but his food was delicious. Maybe it was the sauce but it made rethink my dislike of grits. My food was exactly what I wanted a good hearty breakfast. Eggs were delicious and I gobbled down my hash browns in no time. Definitely add onions to the hash browns! I wasn't a fan of the biscuit. I found it to be dry and a bit hard so next time I'll either get a pancake or an extra egg or hash browns. Our server was super friendly and I wish I could remember her name but it was french. She was so kind and although she was busy she consistently checked on us. I see why the wait is always so long because the food was absolutely worth it. We will definitely be back to try out more of the menu. read more
The name says it all! Enjoyed this brunch cafe, and wish it were closer to home! I honestly wanted everything on the menu so it was hard to choose! I settled for the fresh market omelet with a side of turkey sausage. Super fulfilling and tasty! We ordered the pancake mix to entertain the kids and they loved it!
