Cool historic building in a great location near City Market. The area has a lot of energy, making it a great spot for people-watching. The wait staff were friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service. The local beer was tasty and definitely one of the highlights of the meal. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the atmosphere. I ordered the $38 fried chicken, and while the portion was generous (half a chicken with mac and cheese and greens), the chicken itself had almost no flavor. The sides were decent, but nothing stood out enough to justify the price. Overall, the atmosphere and service were excellent, but the food was disappointing. I probably wouldn't return. read more

I had a really unfortunate experience with Belford's on Juneteenth. I originally had plans to attend a festival, but due to the weather it got rained out; so I opted to make reservations at a black owned business instead to support. My wife and I showed up on time for our reservation and within a few minutes we were seated. After looking through the menu for about 10 minutes we noticed we hadn't had a waitress stop over, so we notified the hostess who stated they would get someone over. Another 15-20 minutes goes by and still NOTHING, at which point I am getting hungry and furious; but I opted to stay because trying to find a last minute spot in downtown Savannah on a Friday can be difficult with no wait. In the meantime we notice waitresses talking and looking at our table as if trying to decide who should take us, so finally a nervous young lady comes over and introduces herself. We explained our frustration, but advised we wouldn't take it out on her but we did want to also speak with a manager. We spoke with a manager who apologized and appeared to somewhat blame it on the waitress, but offered us free drinks to compensate us. I didn't necessarily think it was the waitresses fault and it didn't seem fair for her to solely blame her. I am not sure what the disconnect was, but we did stay and we enjoyed everything from the cocktails, appetizers and our steak. I will return because maybe it was a mishap, but with so many waitresses available and everyone being serviced around us; it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Belford's completely exceeded our expectations. We went in thinking the food may just be like any other overpriced restaurant. It's definitely not a cheap restaurant however everything we ate was absolutely delicious. Our waitress was amazing and recommend the prime ribeye and fried chicken. I was shocked at how good everything on each plate was. We even enjoyed the pre-dinner bread. We were celebrating a birthday and they helped make it special. Many of the more recent reviews are positive, despite the mediocre overall rating, so maybe I just stopped in on an off day. But my experience here was terrible. Service was cordial. I was seated right away. Not too busy or crowded. But the food and drink was a total miss. I started with the BLT stack, fried green tomatoes, candied bacon, arugula, picked red onion, black pepper parmesan aioli, and balsamic. The flavors were great--the onion and arugula offered a refreshing bite, and the candied bacon was just the right amount of chewy. The tomatoes themselves were just okay. I'm biased though because I think Vic's River Grill has the best fried green tomatoes in the area. The filet mignon was a giant disappointment. I ordered it medium and it came out well done. Flavorless. Chewy. What an absolute waste of 68 dollars. The fried potatoes also flavorless, partially too crispy on some edges. I had a rosemary based cocktail which was syrupy and sweet. It went largely untouched. Other menu items include she crab soup, shrimp and grits, grilled salmon, beef short rib, and other seafood. Delicious! We were in the mood for steak and another option we chose was booked so figured we would give this place a try -- and glad we did. My husband and I split the 18oz Wagyu Ribeye and it was sooo good! I usually need some sort of garlic butter or sauce just because I'm a sauce person but the flavor was so on point that it did not need a thing. We stopped here on our food tour and tried the she crab soup, oysters, fried green tomatoes, bread, and fried calamari. The soup was definitely my favorite part, followed by the fried green tomatoes, then the bread, and then the calamari and the oysters. We were not fans of the balsamic glaze and all the other flavors going on. We most definitely would have just preferred an oyster with some pickle juice and cocktail sauce on the side. I can't speak to the entire menu of course but I wouldn't make it a priority to come back if we return to Savannah. read more

Great choice for a late lunch. Our waiter, Alex, gave us a lot if local history as we ordered. Cozy interior on Franklin Square. Super starters, including some of the best fried calamari I've had, garnished with blistered shishito peppers. Don't miss the smoked halibut dip. Perfectly smoked with not a lot of extraneous seasonings. Just good smoked fish flavor from start to finish. We got the biscuit tray and they were some of the best biscuits we've had. Flaky, buttery, and good to the last crumb. They came with a delicious raspberry compote and butter. I had the shrimp and grits which is in a deconstructed style witha fried grit triangle that was amazingly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My wife, who doesn't like grits, happily helped me with it, dipping bits of it in the fruit compote. The shrimp were amazing and cooked to perfection. It also came with a side of greens, which were in the traditional style without a lot of adornment. Overall, a fantastic meal, and I would recommend Belford's wholeheartedly. read more

I had the southern fried chicken with WELL seasoned collards and Mac and cheese! Bestie had the shrimp greens and grits. Everything was delish. The food was the epitome of southern cuisine. Seasoned nicely and even though it was a busy hotspot, I can tell there's someone in that kitchen cooking with love. The restaurant had a cozy and comfortable feel. It's one of those restaurants that you feel like you could just stay for hours just because. The restaurant was busy, and there was a lot of chatter amongst the guests, but you never felt as if the noise level was overbearing which I found to be a delight. Back to Bree. Bree was so helpful in suggesting items on the menu, providing us with guidance to the special places to visit during our stay. If she's not, I nominate Bree to be head server if it's even a thing. If not, she should be a trainer. Bree has the IT factor and although I know she had more tables than ours she made us feel like we were her only guests. Her attention to detail and willingness to make your dining experience nothing less than stellar was amazing. I will definitely return to Belford's and I think I will have to give that tomahawk steak (at least that's what it looked like) a try, it seems to be the diner's choice. read more

We were pleasantly surprised by our time at Belford. We called to confirm that that dogs were allowed to accompany one for outside dining and the hostess was kind enough to confirm that they were. She is beautiful and so pleasant, I wish I asked her for her name, she has short hair and light eyes. We were promptly seated and greeted by Michael who went above and beyond with service, he is excellent at his job and very funny too. We enjoyed a burger and the fish and chips. It took us an extremely long time to get our food (40+ minutes). There were only four of us, we didn't order anything complicated, and the restaurant wasn't that busy. Our server never came to our table to let us know why it was taking so long or to check in on us. The food itself was good. I shared a burger and a salad with one of my family members. This restaurant is located in the City Market area and is known for their brunch. We stopped in on Saturday for a nice indoor brunch. We were greeted by the staff and management and sat in the separate area of the restaurant which was very nice and quaint. My sister and I had to drive so unfortunately we could not do the bottomless, but we did order drinks. She ordered the top shelf margarita and I ordered the honey bee. The drinks came in these tall glasses and whoa is all I had to say. The honey bee was honeysuckle vodka, with local Georgia honey, and lemonade. It was pretty refreshing and surprisingly not sweet at all based on the ingredients listed. They were definitely strong drinks. We started off with 1/2 dozen of the baked parmesan garlic butter oysters. They came out hot and fresh from the kitchen. These oysters were plump and had a great briny taste mixed with that garlic butter. I could've eaten more! My sister and Dad both ordered the crab cake benedict, my mom ordered the arugula salad with a crab cake on the side. I went for the shrimp, green, and grits. While we waited, we got to do some people watching of the City Market - which this restaurant gives you a front row to all the action. Now for my entree - the grits came in a fried grit cake and had a great crunch on the outside. The grits consistency on the inside was thick where it would get stuck to the roof of your mouth thick. I would prefer just regular grits in a bowl. The collard greens were cooked perfectly. They were tender, had a great bite to them, and the juice of the greens was delicious as well. The shrimp were plumped and seasoned but came with this cheese melted on top was I ended up scraping off. I did like the chardonnay butter sauce and wish there was more of that instead of that melted cheese on top of the shrimp. I tried my mom's crab cake and was instantly mad I didn't order it. It was full of crab meat and the aioli sauce was tangy from the lime and savory. We spent our Friday night at Belford's Savannah Seafood & Steaks, a gem my husband discovered while surfing YouTube. The restaurant is Black-owned and operated in excellence, and that excellence shows in every detail. We had a 7pm reservation, arrived early, and were seated right away. Our table was in a spacious dining room with only a handful of tables. The space was intimate, quiet, and not overcrowded. The oversized windows gave us a beautiful street view, which made the evening atmosphere even more charming. Our server, Sanyia, was incredible. She was warm, attentive, and present without ever being intrusive. For starters, my husband ordered the BLT Stack, a creative twist on fried green tomatoes layered with candied bacon, arugula, and pickled red onions. It was hands down the best BLT we've ever tasted. It was absolutely amazing. For our entrees, I had the seared sea scallops with risotto and broccolini. Everything was seasoned to perfection and cooked beautifully. My husband ordered the shrimp, greens, and grits, another dish bursting with flavor and made with care. Both plates were so satisfying that we had no room left for dessert! First time here and it was amazing. The 8oz filet mignon was melt in your mouth delicious and a perfect medium. It comes with the grilled asparagus and roasted potatoes. I can count on one hand the number of times I didn't need a sharp knife to cut the asparagus and this was one of those. And the roasted potatoes were seasoned perfectly. The restaurant was clean and the decor was interesting and chic. The waitstaff was attentive and fun which wasn't easy with how busy they were. The atmosphere is genuinely great, elegant, lively, and worth the visit on its own. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and did everything she could under the circumstances. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The food was just average at best. Nothing stood out, and for the prices (which are definitely on the high side for Savannah), we expected a lot more. The real killer was the service from the kitchen. We waited over an hour and a half for our entrées after ordering. Appetizers and drinks came out fine, but then everything ground to a halt. I actually watched the kitchen from our table, and it was clear the "shit hit the fan" with zero backup plan in place no communication, no sense of urgency, just total chaos. At one point I seriously considered walking out and only paying for what we'd already consumed (apps and drinks), but we stuck it out. I spoke with the manager about it, and while he was polite, it didn't change the fact that the operation fell apart. For a place this pricy with this kind of reputation, basic execution like getting food to the table in a reasonable time should be non-negotiable. Would not recommend unless you're purely there for drinks and the scenery. Save your money and time for somewhere that actually has their kitchen together.
