We had an excellent dining experience at Sombramesa. I started with the Duke's Old Fashioned, a mezcal-based cocktail that was smooth, smoky, and very well balanced--definitely a drink I'd order again. For the tapas, we began with the Uni Toast. The uni was fresh and delicious, and the caviar was excellent. My only criticism is that it's a single piece of toast, so at $16 it felt a bit pricey, even though the quality was outstanding. The tomato salad was another highlight. The tomatoes were fresh and flavorful, and the aioli brought everything together beautifully without overpowering the dish. Our favorite savory dish was the braised cabbage. It arrived as essentially half a cabbage--about the size of a brain--which made it a little awkward to eat. That said, the flavors more than made up for the presentation. The gochujang barbecue sauce was rich and slightly sweet with just the right amount of heat, and the roasted oyster mushrooms complemented the cabbage perfectly. Overall, Sombramesa delivered a fantastic meal with creative, high-quality food and excellent service. While a couple of dishes leaned toward the expensive side for their portion size, the quality of the ingredients and the execution made for a memorable experience. We'd happily return! read more

We kind of stumbled upon this place when I was visiting Savannah for work. Small, cute and quaint little place with a solid wine list. There is limited seating at the bar and dining room, but the owner was very accommodating and allowed us to sit at a table that was set for 6. Another gentleman came over shortly to greet us and tell us about their 1/2 off bottle special which we were ecstatic about! We ended up with the Oddero Nebbiolo which was excellent. All the food we shared was also great. The oysters were delicious and fresh, the pork belly sandwich was full of flavor and textures. Although it's a small menu, the chef knows what he's doing with the dishes he creates. We had a great time and loved the atmosphere and experience. I lived this place! It has been on my list for a while! But they did a fundraiser to raise money for hurricane relief and I knew this was my opportunity. I had the New York Sour which was delicious! And as my main dish I had the shrimp cocktail, the cocktail sauce was AMAZING! Such a warm and cozy place for you to catch up with friends or sit in the corner and read a book like I did. Feels like a trendy wine bar, nice atmosphere, attentive service. Would rate it 3.5 stars if I could. A bit overpriced, and food portions are small. Liked the bacon wrapped dates, but I was expecting a fancier blue cheese sauce than what tasted like a junky kraft dressing, so ate them w/out the dressing. The clams were nice, but the chorizo was a bit tasteless (surprised by that), and wish they offered more than 2 tiny pieces of bread to soak up the tasty broth. The gnocchi was good, wish it was a bigger portion. Left hungry, despite ordering 4 food items for 2 people. Wife got the wine flight - nice wines, but recommend having a sommelier to come by and explain why they picked the wines based on the foods we ordered. Have been wanting to try this place out for a while and glad I finally did. It wasn't busy as it was a Wednesday night, so you think the service would be great. Not so much. My friend got there first and had to wait a bit before one of the two staff members came up to him to seat him. Then I got there and the service seemed to start off really well, but then completely dropped off. Not sure what happened. However, the atmosphere is very nice! Very modern and cozy and chill. The staff was knowledgeable about the wine and helped us try a couple new variations we hadn't tried before. The options for the snacks and charcuterie board were very nice! You get to mix and match items to custom make your board; VERY PLEASED with that! I will note, though, that we ordered everything and a couple items didn't come out with the board initially, so we had to ask them for those items. They made up for the mistake and gave us a little extra pickled veggies, cheese, and bread as well. Will go back, but will hope of a bit better service next time. Still giving 4 stars read more
