Definitely the kind of place where you can settle in, have a good cocktail, and relax for a while. You can tell they take craft their cocktails & I always appreciate a cute little garnish. Everything felt thoughtful and well crafted. We shared the charcuterie board and really enjoyed it. At $22, I thought it was a fair value and it paired well with the drinks. This dingy bar has the gall to charge $20 a drink and $20 for a small little flatbread that I was able to eat in 2 bites. I know the economy isn't great, but cmon, the clear overcharging is one main reason we will not return. In addition, the waiter constantly ignored us even when I had called him over. He walked past us four times, filling every other tables waters for them except ours. Overall don't come here unless you like getting over charged for mid cocktails -- you put some bubbles on an 8$ drink doesn't make it $20! read more

We received coupons from the hotel we were staying at so we had to made sure we used them. The bootlegger gave me the vibe of a speakeasy but more for pirate themed. There was dim lighting and a little hidden. We were able to pick our seat and the wait team were very attentive. They spend a few minutes trying to get to know their customers which I appreciate. My mom and I decided to split the raw oysters and had no complaints. The drinks on the other hand were not my favorite. I asked for an Aperol spritz and it was not good. The Bootlegger is a fun, prohibition themed bar located right on the River Walk in Savannah. It's pretty simple to find as there is a giant black boot posted over the front door. Upon walking inside, the bar is dimly lit with multiple TVs playing nostalgic movies and TV shows in black and white. All of the drinks on the menu are standard cocktails, but some of them have a fun twist such as the Old Fashioned being smoked using a fancy skull smoking cover. The taste of the old fashioned was fine, but I think we enjoyed the pain killer a little bit more as it was nice and refreshing. We had a great time at The Bootlegger this weekend! It's located on the riverfront and claims to have the best smoked old fashioned in town so of course we had to check it out! It's a tiny spot with dim lighting and silly prohibition themed pics hanging on the walls. The atmosphere was relaxed but still kind of upscale, i loved the vibe. Staff were all very friendly as well. Their cocktail menu was definitely enticing, with a great variety of concoctions. We grabbed a couple smoked old fashioned and a their version of an espresso martini and hung out for a bit. The smoked old fashioned was quite lovely, as was the espresso martini. I don't know that the old fashioned was the best i've ever had but it was pretty darn good. We had just eaten but their food menu looked really good! I was tempted to order just because I wanted to try their food! Some of the menu items that piqued my interest were the crab rangoon deviled eggs and the fried green tomato sliders! Next time i'm in Savannah this will definitely be somewhere I put on my list to return to! read more

Bugsby and Big Mike were both incredibly friendly, fun, and made every visit feel like a great time. We didn't eat here, but the drinks were absolutely top tier. I had one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had, and my fiancé said their old fashioned was the best he's ever had. That says a lot. They even had a replacement for his nut allergy since their old fashioned is normally made with almond wood chips. Update 10/12/2025: Still not contacted by the establishment. I guess they get to keep my 34 dollars plus tax for the crab cakes and fried green tomatoes I didn't order, receive, or consume. Will never return. This isn't going to be my typical review. And once this is resolved, I will update the review and the rating. The vibes were great. Low lit like a real speakeasy. Bubs gave good service as a bartender. The drinks were fine, and once this is fixed, I'll elaborate. The charcuterie board might not be 22 dollars worth, but it was okay too. I have a problem with the fact I was charged for crab cakes and fried green tomatoes that I did not order, coming to a total of 34 dollars not including tax. I was tipsy, feeling good, so I didn't check the bill. In the back of my mind I thought it seemed pretty steep. I've called and left my information with the establishment, and am waiting for a call back. Again, once this is resolved, will update. read more

Stumbled on this speakeasy while walking in Savannah. Was immediately taken by the charm and feeling like I stepped back in time and found an underground spot. We were recommended to this "speakeasy" which is right on the river and has massive signage highlighting the fact that it's a bar so I don't know how anyone could call it a speakeasy. Now I had a good time, there were only a few minor hiccups with service and the smoked old fashioned with the skull topper was certainly something to behold. A decent craft cocktail bar on the water, yes, but a speakeasy of any kind? Recently traveled to Savannah from Phoenix with my best friend. Found this bar just walking around and thought it looked interesting. The service here was excellent! Our server came over right away with a smile and took our orders. They have a great variety of beverages with various liquors, and even beer. There's old-timey shows that play on the tvs and photographs all over of people during prohibition. It's a fun place to just sit down and have a drink. I got the blackberry bees knees. It was pretty good. My sister in law got the speakeasy martini, which I liked a lot more than mine. My husband got Roosevelt's smoked old fashioned. I can't say anything about the taste because I do not like bourbon or whiskey, but the presentation was really cool. I love this place and I'm so sad I live in Michigan. Came back from a vacation in Savannah and discovered great bars and restaurants around the place. The Bootlegger was the rare one that was right in my wheelhouse: speakeasy. While it's not a speakeasy with a password and a hidden entrance, it most definitely makes you feel like you're in one. It's dimly lit, high tables, low tables, a bar in the middle and medium sized TVs on the walls playing 1950s shows like the twilight zone (which is my favorite). The drinks were phenomenal! I had the El Jefe which was smoked with this very cool skull smoker you put the chips in, and my wife bought that kit they sell there for me, 1919 Rum Runner and Roosevelt's Smoked Old Fashion. For food I had the Gatsby Charcuterie which had some things I enjoyed but not all were for my tastebud's and the Capone's Crab cakes which were amazing!! Highly recommend those. All of this experience was topped off with wonderful service form our waiter and the manager who was dressed up in flapper attire which added the touch of the era. Next time I come to Savannah, it'll be for a longer stay and each day I'm going here. Thank you to all those who made that place special. read more

My sister and I discovered the Bootlegger as it was right around the corner of the River Street Inn, where we were staying. The highlight of our vacation were the folks there. Their friendly service, their "Speakeasy Martinis", and the prohibition vibe had us coming back for just about every night of our stay. The brick decor and old B/W tv show playing made for such a fun experience. And getting to chat and get to know personally the manager, bartender and servers made it special.
