This place holds special memories of my college days. The drinks are good, but typical of most bubble tea places that uses syrup and powder mixes. It has a decent menu of noodle and rice dishes. What I mainly go for is the rice ball with bamboo (aka Taiwanese meatball... aka "ba wan"). It's a popular Taiwanese street food that has a chewy translucent skin stuffed with a savory mixture of ground meat and bamboo. It sits in a delicious sweet and spicy sauce that completes the whole flavor profile. Make sure to garnish it with lots of cilantro! For drinks, I would typically get the jasmine green tea or papaya milk. Sweetness levels are adjustable. The food is good but the experience and customer service makes me never want to come here again. I ordered noodles and I received dumplings. Not what I ordered at all. So I went back to the counter to tell them the problem and I gave them back the dumplings, which they just threw in the garbage. I paid an additional $14 for the noodles on top of the $8? A very comfortable place to try Taiwanese appetizers and dishes. I ordered the shaved ice bowl and it was really big so I couldn't finish it in the end but the flavors were all really good. Coco's Cafe was easy to find with its colourful name sign. Similarly, the restaurant decor was also colourful. It's pretty spacious but can easily get packed when crowds come. I like their wide selection of boba drinks and food. my boyfriend ordered their taro milk tea, which wasn't well blended. It tasted very sweet and powdery. I ordered the almond milk tea with coffee jelly. It seems like they added almond flavor syrup into regular milk, which resulted in a cherry flavor. Yuck! That's not even the worse part. My coffee jelly was hard and rubbery when eaten. I was so disappointed because my boba tea craving was not satisfied. Additionally, I ordered their crispy chicken nuggets to-go. The wait time was ridiciously long. The nuggets were okay. I didn't like the accompanying sauce. Overall, I would not recommend Coco's Cafe. Came here with Braden J. after our group defeated the hardest puzzle at Mindspark. The way an asian association recharges after using so much brainpower is with copious amounts of boba and MSG. I doubt there is MSG in their food, but it's better if there is. Legend has it, taking a tablespoon of it a day will increase your ability to play online RPGs. That being said, the food was great, loved the comfort food of spicy beef noodle soup / Niu Rou Mian. I needed it to be more spicy so I added more of the extra spice. I've been a long time customer of cocos cafe and typically love the food and experience there. After last night I will legit never go back, I feel sick to my stomach. My boyfriend and I had bought a couple of the desserts from the front display not thinking too much about it. My boyfriend had two of the three and said something tasted off and had me eat the last one only to see that they were all covered in mold. It's clear that the employees do not change out their desserts and let them sit there and rot till other unlucky souls hopefully buy them out. The service wasn't amazing but they were really busy so I can't say much on that. Overall I'm really disappointed. I used to really enjoy coming here but both my boyfriend and I felt really sick after eating here and I can't imagine what other products they have in the back that are rotting or expired. Very tasteless on y'all's part, do better. This could have been sold to someone immunocompromised, and after working in restaurants my whole life I can't imagine being that neglectful to the food you're serving out; at somewhat of a premium as well. read more

Mmm, this place reminds me of the food I had growing up in Houston's Chinatown. Good ole fashion Taiwanese comfort food! I usually get the ground pork over rice. The dish is pretty simple and it is how it sounds--kind of. It's not really ground pork but pork chunks and there's some yummy fat in it to make the dish a bit more decadent, but the dish isn't that heavy. Plus, their drinks are delicious! I always used to go to the one near campus, but now that I've moved away from campus, I've been going to this location more. Tbh I don't really see a difference in the two except for space. The layout of this one is much more customer friendly and it feels like there are more seats. It's eaiser to eat in a group here than it is to eat as a group at the campus location. Peppercorn chicken is always a good choice. Really can't go wrong with that order. I've ordered it countless times, and they've never once messed it up. I always get the mango black or green tea with rainbow jelly, and tastes great every time. I really like frequenting a place where I know I'll consistently get a good meal. Not a fan of the food here but am a fan of the drinks! I got the thai iced tea- really good! My friends liked the ginger tea. We got the braised pork over rice but it wasn't good. The meat wasn't like authentic minced meat- it was like chopped block meat. read more

I want to give them 5 stars because the family that owns it let me eat Christmas dinner with them one night several years ago. Here is the thing. There was a day when this was the spot for cheap Taiwanese street food and boba in Austin. You would walk in and it would be full of Asians and the occasional white girl that watches anime. It's no longer like that because they have hiked their prices several times. It's just not really worth it and if you walk in and look around a lot of other Asians feel that way. Your standard boba shop. The inside of this please is very appealing, just asking you to sit down and have a conversation with your friends or family. I ordered the milk tea and the coconut milk tea. Both in a size large (20oz), I would say the drinks were priced reasonably at just under ~$11. They came out pretty fast, under 10mins.The drinks had a creamy consistency and very sweet. I have been going here since my college days and love their green onion pie. It's probably the best I have had. Deep fried n so yummy. I like their shaved ice too. It's not like Houston's but for traditional Taiwanese shaved ice, this comes the closest in Austin. There was an incident where I got a shaved ice topping and it went bad. The oatmeal was sour. I quickly told them and they tasted it and threw it out and made me a new one. It never happened again. They even revamped this place since then. More hipper. It's small still. 1 restroom. Kinda ok in cleanliness. Not bad for an Asian joint. But this place gets packed during rush times. We like it here. Tasty lomein, noodle soups and drinks are good. My only complaint is that on June 13th they raised the prices on many of my favorite dishes making it not seem affordable or as good a deal. Size stayed the same but portions aren't as big now for $9 per plate or bowl. It's still tasty but not as affordable :( We used to come here at least once a month or couple months but because of the raised prices I am not as sure now. Not sure why they did that. The last time I visited the crowd was already less. I wonder if this will impact them. The shaved ice is even smaller ;/ not a good sign. So very sad and a big dilemma because we like their food but for that price you can get real food at a restaurant like Dinho next door. If I could do it all over again, I rather not go to Coco's and spent my money there only to be served by rude employee they seems to hired. The guy (a different one from last time) at the counter just hate to be there. I ordered a couple food items, a few drinks and a shaved ice. He proceeded and helped another customer who came AFTER me first. Okay no big deal. I asked for all my drinks to be large with pearl and surprisingly one came in their "small" cup I guess, cause when I talked to him, he said I ordered a small. Funny how he didn't seemed to repeat my order and blamed me for it. The other two girls were much more apologetic. Overall, foods and drinks were okay. Coco's used to be my go to and OG bubble tea place in Austin. But with that kind of service, nope, I'll go take my business elsewhere. read more

Service was a bit subpar. As we were coming in there was a lady putting a chair over her head shoving customers who were in like out of the way. At least say "excuse me." I don't know how other people feel about it but that kind of set me off. There are children she ran into and she didn't even stop to say sorry, and they looked a bit scared after she rammed into them. As for food, it's what you'd expect from any Cocos Cafe. I do like how they don't water down their smoothies and it's nice and creamy. Pretty average boba store with decent food. They don't use fresh fruit in their teas or even with their smoothies so don't be too disappointed by it. Overall, it's very convenient to get to since the area has a lot of parking and there were many seating areas inside. The mango green tea I had with less ice and less sugar still tasted very sweet so if you can't handle overly sweet drinks I suggest you get even less syrup in your drink. read more

WOW, the boba at CoCo's is so authentic! I was totally shook when I first tried it. I usually get a small taro milk tea or a small classic milk tea with half sugar and less ice. The service could definitely be improved and the drinks are very expensive ($6 for a 16 oz. and $7 for a 20 oz. after tax). But with a clean atmosphere and drinks like this, I can't complain too much. This location is a hidden gem conveniently located next to Ramen Tatsuya and the Post Office in the Chinatown area of North Austin. I highly recommend you try it out! read more

I like to hit up bubble tea spots quite a bit and ended up going to Coco's after lunch with a couple friends. It was located in the same shopping center as our lunch spot so it was definitely convenient. While there wasn't much of a line when we got there, by the time we had ordered, there was a decent line on a Sunday afternoon. Like most bubble tea spots, they have a large menu consisting of teas, coffee, smoothies, and slushes along with your tapioca or other mix-ins. I got the mango smoothie with rainbow jelly. Good price for the size but I didn't think the jelly was as good as other spots I've tried. Average drink in my book. read more

The bubble tea and smoothies were good. We didn't care for the food at all. The pork dumplings were the best item, but we didn't finish them. The vegetable dumplings wrappers tasted raw. The curry sauce looked and tasted gloppy. The soups were beyond salty and the texture of the meat was not appetizing.
