Super crispy/crunchy. I ordered a 1/2 order but it looked like a full order, not sure if that was a mistake or not. I also got the brown egg (more protein!) to go with my pancake and they were delicious. My kiddo got the eel bowl, comes with pickled veggies on rice. The sauce is really delicious. I'm revisiting cocos after having not come here in a while, and while the boba is good, the price of a boba is on the borderline of I wouldn't come here again if I had a choice. The large boba was $9 and some change and I personally always add at least a little bit of tip so that made it over $10 for a simple black milk tea with boba. The service was quick which I appreciated even though the place was packed, and the ambiance was bustling with people and staff for the short time I visited. Would not be my first choice for boba. I've been a returning customer at both CoCo's locations since college. I consider them the OG Taiwanese comfort food spot in Austin. Their peppercorn chicken and tofu dishes are filling and balance well with the side of pickled vegetables. I like their light, crispy texture and the scallion, jalapeño, and garlic topping. They have a complimentary self-serve cabbage soup on the side to complete your meal. I've also tried a few of their other dishes including the scallion pancakes (savory and flaky) and lu rou fan (the meat is tender and the egg is marinated well). You can't go wrong with any of their boba drinks if you're craving something refreshing and sweet. They have plenty of toppings to choose from, and you can adjust the sweetness level. CoCo's has been one of the OG spots in that shopping center -- I've been going there since I moved to Austin 20 years ago! It's still one of my favorite places for Asian comfort food, and they make some of the best milk tea and taro smoothies with pearls in town. This isn't influencing my rating at all, but fun fact: I actually used to work there ages ago! I got to eat their food 3-4 times a week for lunch, and honestly, I never got tired of it. It was such a fun, startup-style workplace too -- especially getting to make all the drinks myself. My all-time favorite dish is the Peppercorn Chicken with rice -- it's always a hit (and you have to pair it with their jalapeño soy sauce ). In my opinion, they've nailed their milk tea -- perfect balance of tea and milk, and the pearls are just right: warm, sweet, and perfectly chewy. Boba drinks are $6 each and somehow our total comes to $17.50 for 2 of them. Extra $3 each for boba is insane, that's just price gouging. Prices went up again after their renovation when it should have gone down instead. And the tea was very weak, and my taro coconut milk tea had no taro in it! Service was good, friendly and fast. I also love how the shaved ice is customizable! They have a bunch of different toppings options and you can really just make it how you like it! I can't believe it took me so long to try Coco's Cafe. Coco's is a cute, little Taiwanese comfort food cafe that also makes tasty teas, milk teas, and other Asian beverages. I stopped in for a weekday lunch. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. They have a free, self-serve vegetable soup for dine-in customers. Quite frankly, I could eat a whole bowl of that soup and be happy. They also have some condiments for your food like soy sauce, jalapeno soy sauce, chili paste, green onion, cilantro, and more. I got the Steamed Vegetable Dumplings and the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. The dumplings were bigger than I expected and super tasty. The dough was soft and the side sauce matched perfectly. The noodle soup was absolutely wonderful. I didn't make a single flavor change to it. The noodles were thick and chewy and the broth was ginger-forward. The amount of beef in the soup was unreal too. NO for us. We paid $38 for the Peppercorn Tofu with rice and Peppercorn Chicken with rice and the half order of green onion pancakes. Not worth it at all.... didn't even finish any dishes we got. We are from Houston and I am Taiwanese and this did not taste authentic at all. The dishes they offer are definitely Taiwanese dishes but the taste did not meet the bar for my husband (my husband is white) and me. Whatever they added on top of the chicken and tofu was super greasy/soggy. The chicken and tofu were fried but no flavor at all.. I was assuming that the chicken would taste like Taiwanese popcorn chicken... nope. The green onion pancakes.. we didn't even finish.. it was not good at all. Tasted like fried bread no onion scallion flavor at all. My husband said no crunch.. The picture I took was what we left the restaurant as.. one bite taken. I recently tried their black milk tea with boba. I ordered it in person and wasn't asked about any preferences (like ice level and sweetness level) so I assumed their drinks weren't very customizable, but looking at their online ordering system it seems that you can choose your ice level and sweetness level. They also have a wide selection of toppings (boba, popping boba, jelly, etc). One thing I'm sure you can't customize, at least with the milk tea, is the choice of milk. I believe they make their recipe with regular milk. My drink was on the sweeter side, so next time I'll make sure to specify I'd like it less sweet. read more

It's seems to be pretty busy Sunday afternoons but the lady who assisted at the cash register showed excellent customer service skills. It's my first time trying Taiwanese shaved it and I love the taste. They are limited on toppings but they give a great amount for the price. I share it among 5 people regularly after taking friends to some other restaurants in the plaza, as a palette cleanser. Recommend the taro, mango, and lychee jelly as toppings. I got their large Avocado Smoothie with boba for the first time today. They nail the avocado flavor and creaminess, but it is slightly sweet and the price is pretty high. The large is huge though! The flavors aren't the most intense but it's always a great dessert that I will continue to bring people to for the sharability of the shaved ice alone. read more

CoCo's used to be one of my go-to's back when I was in college and even with my now evolved adult taste buds, it stands the test of time. My only gripe is that the prices are no longer student friendly. When ordering through DoorDash, the base price for a small milk tea with boba is $7.15! That's a pass for me... The shaved ice toppings didn't taste the freshest either. The serving size is too big. The cashier tells us to tell her when to stop putting on the syrup, but tbh I didn't know how much syrup I should put in order for it to saturate the ice completely. I've been here a handful of times for boba only but finally had the chance to sit and try a few of their dishes. Austin is not known to have a great selection of Taiwanese restaurants, Coco's is one of them with traditional dishes like fried chicken and beef noodle soup. They also have a wide variety of boba drinks to enjoy as well. Coming here around 7:30pm with a friend, we had no problems finding parking (shared lot with businesses in the plaza) or getting a table. The noise level is low. Overall, we enjoyed the dishes we ordered (crispy chicken nuggets, ground pork with rice, curry fried pork chop), everything was average tasting, the pork could've been more tender.
