Their pickled veggies are a crunchy, refreshing treat, too; more sweet than salty or tangy, perfect as a palate cleanser between pungent bites. I stopped by Coco's Cafe because it was close to where I was going. The cafe looked nice and clean. There was a line order, but it didn't take very long to get to me. I ordered the cookies and cream smoothie without boba, and it tasted so good. It didn't taste watered down at all and had very rich cookies and cream flavors. This place was close to where we were so decided to give it a try. Located inside a strip of a lot of other restaurants so if you don't like food here, there's plenty of other places to check out. The inside is a little dim and not a lot of customers when we were there. Their menu is on the wall with photos so you can see what you're getting. This is a self serve restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring the food out. They have a water station with togo boxes if needed. Appetizers: we got the fried chicken, fried tofu, and scallion pancake. All were pretty decent. I think my favorite is the fried tofu because what can go wrong? 4/5 Spicy beef noodle soup- 3 people order this entree. I think it might be what they're known for? The portion is pretty big. They are generous with the beef as well. It's not too Spicy. If you plan to share appetizers I would say order one since it can be a little too much. My friends got bored of the dish eventually. The broth was flavorful. 3.5/5 Pepper steak with rice- I order this rice dish and probably the worst from all the dishes we got. I mean look at the photo. It definitely is not what I imagined from the picture. It legit reminded me of those frozen microwave meal for less than $5 but triple the price here. Not only looked like one but tasted exactly like one. It didn't look like a stir fry but more of like a beef stew. I was extra disappointed in this dish. I basically ate the rice and little pieces of meat I could find. Did not like the fact that the rice was soaked in the beef stew rather than in a separate bowl. 2/5. We did not order any of their boba tea drinks or desserts because it didn't look special. Not much of bad or good service since it was self serve. My wife and I have been coming to CoCo's for about 10 years and it is definitely one of the hidden gems in the north Austin area. We were disappointed when they were not able to offer indoor dining due to Covid, but we understand. We waited patiently and now that they have reopened the doors for indoor dining, we made our first visit in over a year just a few nights ago. In fact, we had just returned from a resort in Mexico and even though we ate like kings and queens all week, we couldn't help but stop in for dinner on our way home from the airport. The boba drinks and milk tea are great, but we come here mainly for the food. They have several dishes that you won't find anywhere else in Austin. Some of our favorites are the Sticky Curry Rice with Pork Floss, Spiced Kelp, Green Onion Pie, Pork Belly, and Fried Chicken with Curry. In fact, we ordered all of these on our most recent visit except for the pork belly. The Green Onion Pie is a must have at CoCo's. It's very simply a green onion pancake, crispy and hot, served with soy sauce for dipping. I'm not sure what they do with their soy sauce, but it has a unique flavor. I believe they add something to it including cilantro and fresh green onions. The Spiced Kelp is unique and has an interesting taste and texture. It sounds weird but trust me it's good. The other dishes I listed above can best be described as comfort food for us. They are hearty, meaty, and robust with flavor. You cannot go wrong with any of them. Several dishes include a side of pickled vegetables that are very tasty and really freshen the pallet and cut the richness of the entrees. Service has always been spot on. I ordered the milk tea with lychee jelly and I thought it was pretty good. the inside of the place looks nice and it didn't have too many people. The milk tea was pretty good I thought it wasn't too sweet and you can taste the tea flavor in it rather than just sugar and milk like some places. My family usually orders less sugar so I don't like their drinks as much but I really like the toppings they usually get, mainly the boba. I think it isn't too chewy but also not too soft. read more

I have tried so much boba and bubble tea in my life and I have to say this place caught my attention with their milk tea. I got their small 16 oz size of milk tea with boba and the flavor was perfect, not too watery and weak and not bitter. The boba's texture was just right with a nice chew but not hard or mushy. They have an extensive menu, but not overwhelming like some other bubble tea places. They also have a good amount of food options if you're interested in grabbing something to eat as well. They do not allow dine-in so you have to get the order to-go. After we ordered, we stepped out to pick up a separate food order from a different place nearby. We were gone maybe a few minutes and were just about to open the door when the employee that took our order came out with the drinks and called our name. Talk about accommodating service! I wasn't sure what to think when i saw them preparing it--it wasn't like the "melt in your mouth" type of shaved ice, but more like the ice you knew you probably had to chew, if that makes sense!! Definitely not any type of concern, but everyone has their preferences. I added jellies, kiwi, mango and strawberries and it was topped off with condensed milk and brown sugar liquid--looking at it when it was all done I had wondered if it would actually be flavorful because it looked like there was more ice than anything, the guy behind the counter said "definitely." I was so surprised--the condensed milk and brown sugar did do its job and it was so refreshing and sweet. There were so many yummy pearls, almost one or two in every sip. The service was friendly and quick. We first stopped at this place for a dessert, and the menu had so many options that we decided to come back for dinner the next night. We ordered to go, and despite us being a bit late to pick up and the drive back to the hotel , the food was still hot! They packaged it well. We drank boba and had a cake inside and it was very nice and calm. Very good place to eat if you have sensory issues! Whenever I want to revisit some college nostalgia, I drop by this location of Coco's. It reminds me of my days back in UT when I would walk down Guad and grab some food at Coco's with friends. Anyways, Coco's consistently delivers a lot of my favorites and every time I go, it's just as I remember it. My usual meal go-to's are the Peppercorn Chicken, Peppercorn Tofu, or the Pork Chop Noodle Soup. The Peppercorn Chicken and Tofu aren't really that spicy even though you see peppers and whatnot in the dish. They come with a side of rice and pickled veggies which go well with the main dish. They used to put the pork chop for the pork chop noodle soup in the soup so it'd get soggy, but I'm not sure if they separate it or not now. I used to just ask them to put the pork chop separate. The pork chop is fried, slice, and pretty juicy most the times I get it. Aside from these mains, I really like the Green Onion Pie and Fried Tofu with peanut sauce for appetizers. I usually get the whole pie to share with friends or to have leftovers. The peanut sauce with the fried tofu really makes the dish because it gives it a sweet/tangy taste to the already delicious tofu. They also have a good variety of bubble tea drinks. I'll either get the Jasmine Green Tea, Mango Slushie, or Almond Milk Tea. read more

Coco's is the first cafe that I was introduced to a decade ago, and I'm glad that my first experience with Taiwanese food and bubble was a positive one. The parking lot for the entire parking center is huge, and the decor inside Coco's became super cute after they remodeled the interior. Also, Coco's is one of the only, if not the only, bubble tea restaurants that uses fresh fruit for some of their drinks. Repeat after me: Avocado and watermelon. Those are the drinks that only use fruit, and not powder or fruit syrup. The food is also solid as well. I'm not vegetarian, but I usually order the vegetable lo mein. It's just so much better than any lo mein I could find anywhere else or make at home. Their green onion pie is absolutely delicious, and a half order is enough for myself and my parents! My favorite drink to go along with my food is their avocado milk. Their avocado milk is so rich and creamy, and avocado milk is so underrated in the US. My only complaint is the customer base, which makes it a drag eating here. Many of the customers I see at Coco's are freshly from Taiwan, and it shows with their demeanor with the staff here. Many articles state that your treatment toward servers reveals your personality because your treatment shows your ability to treat those under you courteously. We follow a customer is always right rule, but we are all human beings worthy of respect until proven otherwise. Well many of the customers here can't even be civil toward the workers and the people around them, and that makes eating here sometimes a drag because of the huge fuss some customers make because of a small miscommunication. This is my cheap, fast food comfort eats from my UT Austin Guadalupe day and this location hits the spot without me having to drive all the way down there! My Taiwanese food selections here are always enjoyable but the prices seem to be higher now a days than what I remember from old college prices. My bubble teas here are always solid but husband doesn't like their fruit smoothies since they claim to use real fruit but his came with a powdery artificial flavor compared to when he goes to Teapioca. All good because their green onion pie, peppercorn chicken and tofu, curry and almost all their hot plate dishes make up for the sometimes hit and miss. I do like the soup bowls you can fill with your entrees purchase and the lines can get LONG when crowds are around. This is my daughter's favorite place for bubble tea. The picked vegetables are excellent. The steamed veggie dumplings were flavorful and perfectly steamed. The dumpling sauce was soy sauce, not dumpling sauce, and I had a problem with that. My fried tofu curry was - nicely packaged.
