My daughter had a school project to eat at an authentic restaurant of a Spanish speaking country. We found Chicama and tried it because of the positive reviews. Very glad we tried it. My daughter had the Loma Saltado and loved it. I had the Tallarin Verde Asada. We both enjoyed the food. Delicious! We also tried the Inka Soda, which is more popular than Coca-Cola in Peru. It like a bubblegum cream soda, freakin delicious. The waiter was so welcoming and since it was our first time, guided us through a great dining experience. Ah...I had been wanting to give this place a try for the longest time and decided to give it a shot. The restaurant itself is cute and I love that there are pictures all around showcasing the food. I ordered the saltado mixto and salchipapas. The mixto saltado had no flavor at all. I am used to going to El Pollo Inka in South Bay and there's has chunks of cilantro and the meat itself just was a whole lot more tasty. I'm going to give another shot and try something different but I am reluctant to do so. read more

This is a little spot that I found on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I will definitely be making this one of my regular spots. My boyfriend had the Ahi de Gallina which was rich and creamy and I had the Steak Lomo Saltado which was flavorful and fresh. We also picked up an order of Beef Empanadas that were the best we've ever had. You've got to try the Inca Kola; it's so tasty & refreshing, almost like a dessert. They're not going to hassle you and get you to buy a bunch of drinks and appetizers which you didn't come in for. They smile, nod, say thank you and please - my kind of folks. I also think they have a good variety of food here. I honestly think if you don't like ANYTHING they have to offer, you may have a problem with food, period. The portions are healthy. I'm a HUGE eater, and I always walk away satisfied. If you're not a big eater, you may want to split the plate with someone, or just know you'll be taking it home. 3. Humility: I'm pretty over the places that try to be "hip" or "cool". They serve food - good food. It comes with good service. No gimmick, no nonsense. What I recommend: A. Although a small disappointment I really look forward to having that so that was a let down. The food is pricey and the portions are small. Other than that food is good. I have been craving Peruvian food and I found this restaurant that allows dine in. Boy was it a disappointment! The Loma salatdo was so salty. Why? It shouldn't be but I was. It ruined the entire dish. The meat wasn't high quality so it was a bit chewy. The sauce was salty. The only reason it didn't receive a two stars is because it has some good tropical shakes. This place is great. We were looking for a change of pace from our usual Peruvian spot (Sol Inka), and decided to give this place a shots. Overall, really like the food and the service. We have some delicious empanadas to start our meal. Then we had ceviches the portion was not huge but great for the price and qualidy was very nice. We had the saltdo Pollo which I liked more than the one at Sol Inka, I think the one here is nice and not so oily. The Cilantro chicken stew was the highlight of the meal it was bomb. The only downside was the shrimp fired rice I like the one at Sol Inka a little better. We will totally be back here and bring some friends next time. read more

Chicama is a small Peruvian restaurant in a strip mall. Generally, we like to frequent restaurants like this one to support families that run them, and often the food tastes home cooked. However, we were a bit disappointed in Chicama. Our party of two decided to share two dishes, a fish dish, and a beef/noodle dish. When the dishes came out, we were surprised how small the portions were, compared to other Peruvian restaurants. The beef/noodle dish had an unpleasant sauce, and the beef was tough. There was hardly any beef at all. The fish was alright, but I have tasted better sauces. The service was weird. The waitress brought over a basket with four scraps of bread, and when we ordered our food, she grabbed our bread plates and put them on a shelf. When she wasn't looking, I grabbed them back. We started off with Papa rellena which it was the biggest potato i ever seen in a Peruvian restaurant , we ordered empanadas and the Chicken tamal our appetizers were really good . We ordered for our entrees their Parihuela soup, aji de gallina , tallarines verdes with their rostiserrie chicken and picante quinoa de carne. The soup it was ok same as their tallarines verdes , the best one was the Aji de gallina that was soo authentic it reminded me when my grandmas used to make that for me when i was little . A few I have tried out: Pollo saltado ($10.50), Arroz con Pollo ($9.50), Lomo Saltado ($10.50) and the Tallarines Saltados con Carne O Pollo ($10.50). The saltados are a tried and true...consistently spot on delicious. They're a tad heavy handed on the onions and less so on the protein but I've never asked if I could pay extra for extra protein. There is no other gripe with that dish; it is always tasty and delicious. My second favorite item to order is the arroz con pollo which is a 1/4 chicken with cilantro rice, onions, red peppers and green peas cooked in peruvian beer. The rice is nicely seasoned and not overly cilantro-y. (I actively avoid cilantro.) The Tallarines saltado is the same main filling as the other saltados but with spaghetti. The spaghetti is al dente but I still prefer the rice dishes which absorb the sauce more readily. I've ordered this to go as well as eaten in numerous times. The owners are always very nice and I've always had great service and a warm welcome. Always ask for the green sauce and bread! They are very generous regardless if you are eating in or getting it to go; I'm always afraid that I'll miss out on my green sauce. It's addictively spicy but I think it brings a different level of awesome to the dishes! The only downside I can think is the times that I have been there it was a little hot inside the restaurant. They have a few fans but I'm not sure if they have A/C. read more

This is the new replacement restaurant for my former go to Peruvian place called Nory's. Located in the same place, it's only a hop, skip, and a jump from my house so I was excited to see it suddenly appear last month! So I'm a creature of habit and when trying out a new restaurant, I tend to try a dish that i have tried at several places so that I can get a legit comparison. Having been here twice now, I have to say I'm liking this little hole in the wall. My favorite Peruvian dish is actually not on their menu (booo) BUT all I have to do is ask for them to make it and...they are more than happy to. I'm a glutton for "Saltado de Mariscos". Of course they have the beef and chicken versions, but not my seafood version on the menu. So if this happens to be a favorite of yours also....just ask! They are so fast here! I have called ahead once and walked in to place a to-go order...both times the food was done in under 10 min! Their Aji sauce is good but not really spicy enough for my liking. I'm going to ask if they have a spicier sauce available the next time I order from here. Heads up on the "delivery" notion on the outside of the restaurant. It's painted in the window that the deliver. When I called, they didn't have anyone available to deliver. I'm not sure if this is a normal occurrence, but something to consider before calling. The food has good flavor, the portion is on par with what I expected, they give you french bread and Aji sauce with the orders which is customary, and they do it all with a smile. The inside is much cheerier than Nory's was and simply cleaner. This is a TINY place so if you're planning on coming with a group any bigger than 6...you'll be eating at different tables. I think it's a great place for a family of 4 or under. A date? Sure...it's not fancy schmancy, but it's solid food and great service. read more

You can't go wrong with the Lomo or Pollo Saltado! I've had both here and they were both delicious! I always ask for mine extra juicy because I love the flavor of the sauce and I like when the fries are soaked with the juice. The aji sauce is really good here. It's hit or miss as far as the spiciness goes. I love this sauce with the complimentary bread that they give you, but I also love pouring it on any of the dishes that I order. Try it first before pouring it on your food because it might be a super spicy batch that they made that day & then you might not be able to eat your food if it's too hot! I wanted to try something new yesterday, so I ordered the Picante de Pollo, which was white chicken meat smothered in a starch-based broth with small diced potatoes and a side of rice. The broth was really flavorful and very garlicy, which I love! I would definitely order this dish again, but I'd probably try it with the carne next time. For dessert I recommend the alfajores, which are two sweet biscuits joined together with dulce de leche. You get six in one order for a few bucks. Friendly service. Affordable prices. Kind of small inside, but I've always been seated right away when arriving. Not a good place for large groups. Parking is kind of tight since it's shared with about five other businesses so you might have to wait a bit for a spot, but it's definitely worth it. read more

Chicama is my local Peruvian joint. It's in a tiny complex with not that much parking. We picked up some pollo saltado, which is thinly sliced strips of chicken sautéed with some French fries and onions. I think the dish could use a bit more meat inside of it. At the very least, add more fries and put less onions. We really enjoyed the ceviche. Large chunks of seafood with plenty of citrus flavor. Found this little gem of a place on Yelp. We ordered the Lomo Saltado (Beef) and the Pollo Saltado (Chicken). - each $10.50. You can replace the fries with green beans, broccoli, cabbage, or a mixture of two. I got mine with broccoli and green beans, and my friend ordered hers with cabbage and green beans. Both dishes were tasty and hearty. You also get a basket of bread and a light green sauce when you order. Their juices are yummy, too. I got the Chicha Morada and my friend got the Passion Fruit, which was sweeter than passion fruit normally is ($2 each). You can also order a jar of each for $8 - I'm not sure how large the jar is or if it is something you can get to go. I saw them putting together some cute little cookies and inquired about them. The owner (?) brought us each a cookie to try - they were sooo delicious. Dulce de Leche - they make them from scratch. The biscuit was really light and flaky and the caramel was nice and creamy. They sell them 6 for $5 or 10 bite-sized cookies for $5. Service was great and the owner was nice and attentive. Definitely check this place out! I just came home from eating mother's day dinner here with my mom (who really likes Peruvian food). It was our first time trying it out and I'm SO happy we decided to do so, because the food was REALLY good. The restaurant itself is located on the corner of a small strip mall, at the intersection of Cerritos Ave and Knott Ave. We were able to get parking right in front, and when we walked in we were promptly greeted. The interior is small, but pleasant. The establishment was clean, there were a number of Peruvian/Incan decorations adorning the walls, and the tables/chairs were sturdy. I really enjoyed the music they had on, as well - acoustic guitar versions of popular songs (Shakira, ABBA, etc). It was very clear that the restaurant is family run, and I believe it's the son that was serving us? We were given menus, bread with green sauce, and iced water. The green sauce was really good!! It had a great consistency, and went very well with the soft bread. I ate too much bread. Haha. I ended up ordering my go to Peruvian dish: Aji de Gallina ($10). My mom got a half order of the Jalea de Mariscos, which was highly recommended by our server and described on the menu as "deep fried breaded calamari, shrimp, and fish, seasoned in a mixture of Peruvian spices. Accompanied by salsa criolla and fried yucca." ($11). A full sized order is $18... but the half size was so big that I can't imagine any one person comfortably eating a full sized order (my mom ate a lot and still took half of her dish home). My Aji de Gallina was amazing! It was thick, creamy, and flavorful. The shredded chicken was cooked well, as were the potatoes. My mom loved her Jalea de Mariscos. She kept raving about the breading - how light and flavorful it was. I tried a piece of shrimp, which was very tasty, as well as a piece of fish, which was very tender. The seafood was definitely fresh and breaded in the restaurant, not frozen. The yucca was pretty good too! Her dish also came with fried corn and tartar sauce for dipping (which was flavorful and not too heavy). All in all, our dishes were so good that I wanted to try more... except I was really full, so I figured I'd get some dessert to go. They had about 6 different dessert items to offer (crepe wrapped plantain, Peruvian ice cream, shaved ice, funnel cake, something that looked like the Peruvian version of flan, etc). At the top of the list were alfajores (6 for $5.50). I hadn't had alfajores in a long time, so I decided to try some. Eeeee what a great way to end the meal! The cookie portion was so buttery, flaky, and delicious, and the filling was sweet but not TOO sweet. So, so, so good! Their menu was actually really big, and had a variety of appetizers, soup, ceviche, seafood, chicken/meat, and side dishes to choose from. They also had a wide variety of drink options (including Inka Cola, a dragon fruit/pitaya smoothie, margaritas, and beer), as well as the aforementioned delicious dessert options. The service wasn't the fastest, but everyone was very nice/pleasant and the food was SO amazing. It's the best Peruvian food I've found thus far. Pollo saltado was under seasoned IMHO. If I came here again I would get the bread, the empanadas ( a dozen or so lol)...then I'd leave. The service is second to none...they just need a makeover of their chef's cooking technique. This would be a great candidate for one of those makeover shows cuz the owners are some very sweet people and are amazing at customer service! We used to go to Norys is Anaheim for our share of jalea and chicha. Sadly, all good must come to an end and Norys closed. A new Peruvian restaurant took its place but it is not as good. Then one cold winter afternoon, while cruising through fine Stanton (lol), we came across this gem. We actually passed it, since we were headed towards Gourmet Cafe, and 3 miles later, we decided to make a u turn and give it a try. Husband was certain he wanted jalea. I wanted to try something different so I chose Seco de cordero (sheep stew). The kid had Arroz chaufa con carne. And I ordered a small cup of aguadito (cilantro chicken soup), and a pitcher of chicha. First thing to come out was fresh bread, we were hungry, it tasted amazing. Then came my son's rice. The plate was huge. We could all have eaten out of that thing. Then came my stew. I'm used to eating salty barbacoa so to me, the stew was on the sweet side. More of a shepherd's pie flavor, still, really tasty. Lastly came the jalea. My husband was very anxious to try it because that dish was going to be the dictator of whether or not we had found our new favorite Peruvian spot. He ordered the large size. He ate about 1/2 and wished he could keep eating, but the portion was just too big. I tried his dish and it was really good. The shrimp were already peeled, the fish was so flaky! I brought the rest for lunch at work and a day later, in the microwave, it tasted just as good and fresh as the day before. So yes, we found our Peruvian spot! All I have to say is price is moderate, but the portions are huge. So order a dish for two, then the price becomes cheap. This was an amazing find for us. So glad we made that u turn!!! read more

Authentic Peruvian food, I have been a loyal customer for many years. I highly recommend Lomo Saltado, the Ceviche de Pescado is amazing. They use plenty of limes, fresh fish, fresh herbs, it's mouth watering. The tamales are served with red onions which have been prepared with vinegar or cebolla con limón, as a side dish and well they sell Maracuya and much much more. This is definitely my guilty pleasure because the Fried Platanos are caramelized... I can sit here and write for ours but I will let you be the judge. The best! This is always my go-to spot whenever I'm craving authentic Peruvian food or if I can't figure out what to get for lunch. Service is very good and as Marcy R. mentioned, they always make you feel welcome. If you're new to Peruvian food, I'd highly recommend getting the lomo saltado. The steak is very juicy and perfectly seasoned. If you're craving something more homey, I'd get the aji de gallina (not on the menu). This is shredded chicken with sliced boiled potatoes smothered with walnut gravy (for filipinos, this taste like kare kare, but better!) served with rice. This dish doesn't look very appetizing, but once you dig into it, you won't regret it. Not a lot of Peruvian restaurants serve this because of how much work and ingredients go into preparing it, so it's an absolute must try! This place is also great to bring in your coworkers in case you need a nice sit down place that's not too noisy. Parking can be a challenge inside the plaza. If you come during rush hour between 12-1:30pm, your best bet at parking is street parking on Cerritos. p.s. The chicha morada is another MUST TRY! Trust me on this! read more

My husband and I ate lunch here today (we were also fans of Nory's) and we were really pleased. The food was delicious. First off, it's a lot cleaner - nicely painted, nice tables (you can see this in the photo section). There was one waiter workin' the room. He was pretty quiet, probably because he figured there was a language barrier, but had no problem taking our order. I had the 1/2 pollo a la brasa - and you get a choice of 2 side orders which are listed at the bottom of the menu. From what I remember, they were garlic green beans, house salad, black or white beans, and white rice. I might be forgetting one. I went with the rice and salad. They don't ask what dressing you want (with Nory's it was always some sort of Italian). The salad seemed to be dressed with lemon juice. It was tangy, but fresh. I dug it, but I like lemon. If you're not a lemon fan, it may be overkill, so you've been warned. Covered my chicken and rice in the green sauce, it was awesome. My husband got the Saltado de Pollo. It was really tasty. The chicken was great. Flavorful and not dry. Seasoning was really good. There are pictures in the photo section. I'd say they were pricey, but I find that these prices are pretty much the same as all the other Peruvian places I've been to. Maybe it's just that Nory's prices were cheaper and they ran specials. Not sure if this place does specials yet? Our lunches were around $10/ea. plus drinks. I hope this place stays open. I wish them the best of luck. read more

SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSE WHERE ! Honestly would never come back. They're taking advantage of the whole Coronavirus situation to serve their take out less than if you were to eat there. I came to order the Cao cao and the portion looked good they serve me my food only to come home to see that the cook served me 80% rice and 20% soup. I was very upset and called the restaurant the lady was arguing with me saying that they always weigh their food and I said it could be they same weight but she served me more rice thinking I wouldn't notice the huge difference. She then tells me to come back to the restaurant and that she would make it again. I come to the restaurant and she had a very bad attitude and gave me scraps and said her husband that owns the place was only gonna give me that. Yes, this used to be a Nory's and Chicama is more cleaned-up inside but just as friendly (aka, friendly). It has a small lot in a tiny plaza/corner w/a some mexican shops. I went here w/my mom for lunch. My mom ordered ceviche mixto which had fish, squid, shirimp, fried inca corn seeds and fresh inca corn and was a little spicy, but black pepper spicy. She also ordered fried calamari which had standard lemon-y tartar sauce and onions. I had arroz con pollo which had rice that tasted like it was cooked in chicken broth, cilantro, onions and had mixed veg like lima beans, peas, carrots and corn...kinda like a pilaf. The chicken was a little bit dry, not too dry but pretty lean and it came w/a small green salad. Pretty good. A little price-y in the end because we ordered alfajores and that pudding to go. I wanted to like this place, I unfortunately I cannot recommend this establishment. The food literally was spoiled. I made the mistake of picking up the food, the car smelled horrible when I got home from the stench of the food. I still have it a try, maybe it was the spices they used. Two bites in, combined with bad smell and I threw my whole plate away. It's wasn't cheap either, i should have gone to Pollo Inca or El Rocoto. It's a shame that the owner was okay with packing the food and had took no pride to give a great dish, i should have taken the empty place as a sign. read more

A cozy mom and pop shop always gets greeted with a friendly smile. Excellent Peruvian foods and mesmerizing aiji cerde salsa. I tried cau cau, lomo saltado, and picante de polio. All great and don't forget their various drink options. I liked the guava drink. read more
