Got dinner with my parents, as Peruvians my parents want to go to every new Peruvian spot to support our people. To start with, the vibes inside are like that of a takeout restaurant. By the register they have dried goods/snacks/sauces from Peru for sale. I bought a pack of Doña Pepa to take home (if you aren't familiar, they are cookies dipped in chocolate and covered in sprinkles!) The menu had a decent amount of options. We ordered: Yuca con Huancaina, Anticuchos, Ceviche, Jalea, Lomo Saltado, Aguadito, Papa Rellena. I'll start with what NOT to order. The aguadito was way too thick, almost porridge like. It tasted like it already had lime squeezed in. The taste was not what Im familiar with. The yuca con huancaina was also a skip for next time. The yuca was a little undercooked, and the huancaina tasted closer to a nacho cheese. Youre better off ordering something else. Moving onto the main dishes: * How a peruvian spot makes lomo really tells you how its gonna go. The meat was perfectly cooked. This was presented more like a deconstructed lomo since the fries and tomatoes were not tossed together with the meat and onion. The overall for this dish was 4 out of 5. They were but heavy handed with the soy sauce. Still delicious! * The jalea (fried fish and calamari) was perfect!! 5/5! Perfectly crunchy and all the seafood was great. No fishy taste. The mojarra was one of the best fried mojarra I've had in a long time. Just order it, and dont forget to ask for a side of lime. * The ceviche was good, the leche de tigre was the kind you wanna just slurp up at the end. I liked that they asked if we wanted it spicy and how spicy. My dad got normal spicy and wasnt spicy at all to us so we may just get spicy next time. * The papa rellena came with two small papas and was chicken based which threw us off. There was no indication on the menu or by staff that it would be chicken. My mom spoke up to the server that she was a little bamboozled by it The server told us some weeks they do chicken and some they do beef. We wish they told us before we ordered, or had some notice about asking what the filling of the week would be. Flavor was good. * Anticuchos had a good seasoning, they were a little on the more cooked side but they were definitely not tough as other reviews mention. The aji they serve is on the spicier side, you could tell before tasting as its not light in color. Overall good food with reasonable pricing. read more

We arrived 30 minutes before closing and was kindly greeted. As I sat down with my daughter. The ambience of the restaurant and mutruly brings back memories, but my mom's home country of Peru. The menu is not too complicated and has the staple dishes. Food was on point owners were extremely nice. It was very refreshing to not feel rushed as I had stayed about 10 minutes after closing to finish our food. We arrived a few minutes before 7p., the place was empty. I think most people judge the quality of a restaurant by the number of guests, in this case I am glad I didn't. We were greeted by two very friendly employees who I believe were the owners. The dining room was clean and none of the tables were left with dirty dishes. After we ordered I decided to look up Yelp reviews, that's when I noticed the my close at 7p. We apologized an offered to take our order to go. They assured us it was okay to stay and remained attentive our entire visit. We ordered the lomo saltado. The meat wasn't chewy or dry, the rice was fluffy and they have the best French fries. I also ordered the plátanos maduros which were freshly made and full of flavor. I ate every last bite! Overall, the staff were friendly, the place was clean and the food was great! He gave me a peek into the kitchen and all the equipment they have. Over all, I would highly recommend for everyone to try and see what they think, as for me I will be going back to try more! Went for the first time today . Place was empty so was a little skeptical to even stay but we did . First we ordered the whole chicken and was told inca cola came with the special just to be told never mind it does not . I thought that was a little rude considering it was our first time and the place was empty . But that was not the problem when are the chicken came out we had to ask for napkins and plates because the server was too busy taking pictures of food plates . But most importantly the chicken was cold and undercooked. Not once did the server come back to ask how we were doing . By the comments I see that the chicken being undercooked is not new . Authentic, Home style and delicious! Our server was such a sweet gal and very hospitable. The vibe was very family oriented and cozy. The photos/ Art on the walls were beautiful. We enjoyed the fried rice w beef/arroz chaufa and sautéed fish/seafood, flan and a guava drink. It was all delicious! The condiments were perfect and so tasty. Sumak Peruvian Restaurant is in the same plaza as northgate and el pollo loco. The restaurant was a bit hard to find because the name of it was not in the front. I had the shrimp limo saltado for lunch today and I would not recommend it. The sauce of the lomo saltado was underwhelming. It was lacking flavor and the consistency of the sauce was very runny. The rice was decent but the fries were soggy. At its price point, I was expecting a bigger portion and a higher quality dish. The green sauce on the side was also mediocre. My sister and I agreed that there are other better Peruvian restaurants out there. I would recommend checking out Ceviche 19 if you're going to be paying ~$20 a dish. read more

I want to start of by saying I am Peruvian. Lived in Peru and know authentic Peruvian food when I smell and taste it. The lomo Saltado had too much soy sauce. They have small portions that leaves an adult feeling unsatisfied. The ceviche was made with old limes or lime juice. Extremely bitter instead of sour. Lots of onions and very small portion of fish for the price you pay. I don't recommend this place. read more

I ordered the pollo a la brasa over the phone, they said it would take 15 min. I got there in 20 min and they told me it would be another 5 min. I waited 45 min in addition for my chicken. Little apology and not even a free drink or dessert for my time waiting. When I got home the salad was dry, no dressing and my chicken was burnt, little seasoning and raw in many parts. I then called the restaurant and the lady that helped me did apologize, said they were short staffed, but did not offer a refund etc... The meet was tender and juicy. The tomatoes and onions were on point. It was not overpowering. We also had the Ceviche and it was really good. My mom had the chicken and she likes. The fries were fresh cut not greasy and chicken was juicy. She even liked the salad which wasn't wilted. This something we have encountered in other places. "Server" never came to ask wheather food was ok or if I need something, I have to stand up and approached myself to the counter asking for soy sauce for the "chaufa de pollo" that has no taste.
