Got dinner with my parents, as Peruvians my parents want to go to every new Peruvian spot to support our people. To start with, the vibes inside are like that of a takeout restaurant. By the register they have dried goods/snacks/sauces from Peru for sale. I bought a pack of Doña Pepa to take home (if you aren't familiar, they are cookies dipped in chocolate and covered in sprinkles!) The menu had a decent amount of options. We ordered: Yuca con Huancaina, Anticuchos, Ceviche, Jalea, Lomo Saltado, Aguadito, Papa Rellena. I'll start with what NOT to order. The aguadito was way too thick, almost porridge like. It tasted like it already had lime squeezed in. The taste was not what Im familiar with. The yuca con huancaina was also a skip for next time. The yuca was a little undercooked, and the huancaina tasted closer to a nacho cheese. Youre better off ordering something else. Moving onto the main dishes: * How a peruvian spot makes lomo really tells you how its gonna go. The meat was perfectly cooked. This was presented more like a deconstructed lomo since the fries and tomatoes were not tossed together with the meat and onion. The overall for this dish was 4 out of 5. They were but heavy handed with the soy sauce. Still delicious! * The jalea (fried fish and calamari) was perfect!! 5/5! Perfectly crunchy and all the seafood was great. No fishy taste. The mojarra was one of the best fried mojarra I've had in a long time. Just order it, and dont forget to ask for a side of lime. * The ceviche was good, the leche de tigre was the kind you wanna just slurp up at the end. I liked that they asked if we wanted it spicy and how spicy. My dad got normal spicy and wasnt spicy at all to us so we may just get spicy next time. * The papa rellena came with two small papas and was chicken based which threw us off. There was no indication on the menu or by staff that it would be chicken. My mom spoke up to the server that she was a little bamboozled by it The server told us some weeks they do chicken and some they do beef. We wish they told us before we ordered, or had some notice about asking what the filling of the week would be. Flavor was good. * Anticuchos had a good seasoning, they were a little on the more cooked side but they were definitely not tough as other reviews mention. The aji they serve is on the spicier side, you could tell before tasting as its not light in color. Overall good food with reasonable pricing.

Great yuca!!! Sauce good too. Rustic and more authentic than we've had in the US. Chicha jarra is the way to go, you get a great deal! Thank you. Tasted great. Hubby got seco and Aguadito and liked both. I got chupe and yes! Was so good! Missing cheese unfortunately, that's why I took off a star. But was still good. Service was great! Parking at the door. Store with lots of Peruvian products. We went for a second order of yuca. Thank you!

First time trying this cozy family run restaurant - 13 of us went for lunch Sunday and had a wonderful meal - the service and food was great!

Sumak Peruvian Restaurant is in the same plaza as northgate and el pollo loco. The restaurant was a bit hard to find because the name of it was not in the front. I had the shrimp limo saltado for lunch today and I would not recommend it. The sauce of the lomo saltado was underwhelming. It was lacking flavor and the consistency of the sauce was very runny. The rice was decent but the fries were soggy. At its price point, I was expecting a bigger portion and a higher quality dish. The green sauce on the side was also mediocre. My sister and I agreed that there are other better Peruvian restaurants out there. I would recommend checking out Ceviche 19 if you're going to be paying ~$20 a dish.

The food is really good, especially the ceviche. I'm really picky with it and this place puts the right amount of spices on the food.

We came in with our daughter, who is on the autism spectrum and has very specific food preferences and sensory needs. As we have done on previous visits, we brought food from McDonald's for her so that she could comfortably eat while we enjoyed our meal. We explained this to our waiter and let him know that we have always been allowed to do this in the past because of our daughter's special needs. Unfortunately, the waiter refused to allow our daughter to eat her food and repeatedly stated that his manager, Angel, made the rules. Despite explaining our situation and our long history as customers, there was no effort to accommodate us or show any understanding. What makes this even more disappointing is that we have been coming here for years and have spent a significant amount of money supporting this restaurant. Our family meals would often total close to $200, and we were regular customers who genuinely enjoyed dining here. It was upsetting to see that our loyalty seemed to mean nothing and that no consideration was given to our daughter's circumstances. Rather than make our daughter uncomfortable or cause a scene, we chose to leave. As parents of a child on the spectrum, we expected a little compassion and understanding. Instead, we felt unwelcome and dismissed. We are extremely disappointed by how this situation was handled and, sadly, after years of being loyal customers, we will not be coming back.

I have…read moretried chimichurri sauces from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's but they aren't really very authentic. A friend recommended seeing what El Gaucho might have, so I visited the next day. The market is easy to spot with a big street sign out front. There are only two parking spots in front, one is a handicapped space. There's plenty of parking around the back though. When you walk in, you will see the main market with lots of items and brands I've never seen before. Slightly to the right is their deli counter with lots of meats, cheeses, and other miscellaneous items. To the right of the entrance is a dining area, and another counter where you can order sandwiches, empanadas, pizza, French fries, and drinks. I was laser focused on getting the chimichurri and leaving since I was short on time. It is in plastic bottles in plain view on on top of the deli counter. I purchased the regular variety, but they also have a spicy version. I could already tell this was going to be way better than the other two sauces I tried. I've had it on a steak, and on my breakfast scrambled eggs, and it's in a whole different league from the grocery versions I tried. It looks just like a restaurant chimichurri, oil based with lots of herbs and spices. I just had a nice filet mignon with chimichurri at a good Argentinan restaurant last week, and this chimichurri is about 90% as good. I moved it from the plastic bottle it comes in to a glass jar which will hopefully help preserve it longer, and store it in the refrigerator. I now have no reason to look elsewhere for chimichurri. My friend visits here periodically and says the sandwiches are excellent. I'll have to return again to try one, get more chimichurri, and explore the market and deli to see what other goodies they have.
