My mom is from Michoacan and past away long ago. The food at this place is made with fresh ingredients. The horchata is not full of sugar and the tortillas smell like fresh maiz because they are freshly made. The mole tasted close to my mom's mole. The mole was definitely home made an and unique to M. Only came here because we had a gift certificate. Ordered got served. The food was not good at all 0/10. Rices beans taste like they were from yesterday not freshly made at all. We asked about using our certificate he told use there has been fraud with gift certificates and he was not set up for them with his system. Sounds like he just didn't want to use our certificate ! Went to pay he tells us he doesn't accept card with no chip. That banks are not accepting card without chips. I work for Bank of America and I know that's a lie!!! We like to find hidden gems on Yelp and boy did we find one! This place is located on a busy street. There's street parking out front and a lot in the back. The actual restaurant is pretty small. Pretty much a hole in the wall kind of place. And aren't those the best though?! You walk in and have a seat. The owner will come take your order at your table. The menus are on each table and on a large overhead sign. We ordered the quesadilla and the chile relleno plates. Everything is served on disposable plates, but we don't mind that. Everything in the menu includes rice, pinto beans and a garnish of lettuce with tomatoes. That garnish is usually a staple at Mexican restaurants though. The Chile relleno was good. I generally don't order chile rellenos at restaurants (because that's something I prefer to be homemade) but I saw someone else having it and it looked appealing. It was a treat for the eyes and tummy! The star of the show was really the homemade tortillas de maíz. They were light, fluffy and yet crunchy. I don't like homemade tortillas that are so thick you can "sopiar" with them. Meaning you can't use them to scoop up your food. The owner is a sweet man who is very proud of his restaurant. He explained that he doesn't have hamburgers or chicken nuggets because he wanted it to be an authentic Mexican restaurant. He loves that he has regulars, but also gets tourists since he's so close to Disneyland. It's only about a mile away. He showed his excitement for being a part of food delivery services such as Grubhub. All in all we had a nice experience. The food was delicious, service was good and prices are reasonable. The food was bad. Just bad. I got a caldo de pollo for my husband and I got a chile relleno plate for myself that was $15. The chiles weren't not pealed before they were dipped in the egg wash, and they looked and tasted days old. The beans and rice tasted bad. My husband's caldo was $12 had no flavor and only 2 drumsticks no veggies not one sliver of potato, literally just 2 drumsticks and one of them didn't have much meat on it. Highly recommend getting their pozole and menudo soups! My husband and I got each of those soups during the weekend. THEY WERE DELICIOUS! Well seasoned and plenty of flavor. The man working is very rude. Apparently he's the sole owner and operator of establishment. He talks down about every other place the customer mentions they have been to. Says he doesn't know how to use gift cards or coupons, but he does take cards and caters to Uber eats, Door dash, and Grubhub. Has deals advertised and when ordered he states he doesn't want to make them because he is closing soon!? Even rejects a party coming into potentially order food and he let's them know they can't eat inside, mind you establishment has nobody but me and my family of 4 inside eating at a table and he just opened 3 hrs before. The fact that the tortillas are HANDMADE... you don't see that often in Mexican restaurants!! Both are large enough to share but I always manage to polish off the entire order. He is closed Monday's and open 8am to 11pm the rest of the days.
