My husband and I have been loyal customers of Aji Limón for years, and after today's experience, we will not be returning. We came in with our daughter, who is on the autism spectrum and has very specific food preferences and sensory needs. As we have done on previous visits, we brought food from McDonald's for her so that she could comfortably eat while we enjoyed our meal. We explained this to our waiter and let him know that we have always been allowed to do this in the past because of our daughter's special needs. Unfortunately, the waiter refused to allow our daughter to eat her food and repeatedly stated that his manager, Angel, made the rules. Despite explaining our situation and our long history as customers, there was no effort to accommodate us or show any understanding. What makes this even more disappointing is that we have been coming here for years and have spent a significant amount of money supporting this restaurant. Our family meals would often total close to $200, and we were regular customers who genuinely enjoyed dining here. It was upsetting to see that our loyalty seemed to mean nothing and that no consideration was given to our daughter's circumstances. Rather than make our daughter uncomfortable or cause a scene, we chose to leave. As parents of a child on the spectrum, we expected a little compassion and understanding. Peruvian food is one of my top 10 favorite cuisines, and I've tried most items on Ají Limón's menu when I was in Peru. I find the food here to be decent to satisfy my random Peruvian food cravings and not wildly far off from the food I had in Peru. I had gotten takeout here a few times but finally dined in for a weekday lunch recently. Didn't get the server's name, but service was amazing. We did stand by the entrance for a few minutes before anyone greeted us and seated us, but that could be due to the restaurant layout that's somewhat of an upside down L shape, and most people were sitting tucked inside away from the entrance. I've got ceviche mixto and recently ceviche mariscos. Both are satisfying. The difference is the mixto contains white fish and all the other seafood (shrimp, octopus, squid, mussels) while the ceviche mariscos only contains the non-fish seafood. They are not cheap, but the portion is generous and it is quite a lot of seafood. We got medium spicy for dine in, which was the right call. I think I had gotten spicy in the past, and while I love spicy food and have good tolerance, it was still spicy to me and distracted a bit from enjoying the seafood. The ceviche comes with sweet potato, yucca, boiled corn, and cancha (Peruvian corn nuts). And no meal is complete without a chicha morada. I also enjoy anything with platano frito. If I recall correctly, the tallarín verde and lúcuma ice cream were pretty good, too. The pionono is okay; I'm not a huge fan of sponge cake, and the dulce de leche is very sweet. We came here because my son has to do an extra credit report about Peruvian food. So we decided to stop by on a Sunday lunch. The place is located in a strip mall with a bunch of other restaurants. The outside is not impressive, but the inside is definitely quaint and clean. We ordered three dishesb(fried rice not shown). All dishes are between $22-27. Absolutely tasty! I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised with how fresh and everything was delicious. Portions are quite generous, so come hungry. Service was good and attentive. A very tasty hole in the wall. We were looking for something casual and found this restaurant in Buena Park. Lots of parking. They were pretty understaffed but had a decent amount of customers. It was about a 15 minute wait on a Monday evening. Our server Geordan was very nice and checked on us even though he was super busy. I ordered the lomo saltado which was a skirt steak stir fry with rice, tomatoes, french fries and onions. Well seasoned and good sized portion. My brother also enjoyed their fried rice special. Was driving by the area and saw this place. We always loved to try new places and haven't had Peruvian for quite a while so we decided to check it out. I can definitely say we weren't disappointed. The place has a mom and pop feel to it. It was clean, the staff was very friendly, and service was good. We had the Loma Saltado, Bistec a lo Pobre, Bistec a la Chorrillana, Tallarín Saltado, and the donuts for dessert. I tasted all of the them and they were all delicious. The Bistec a la Chorrillana and Lola Saltado were my favorites. Given that everything did taste great, I did take one star off which was due to portion size for the beef. Given that the style of food traditionally has thinly sliced beef, I think that for the price there could be a larger portion size of the meat. As for the donuts, they were very tasty but if you have kids or picky eaters, you may want to skip them. The sauce was delicious to me but my son didn't like it. The sauce is made with alcohol so you can taste it a little. With that said, if we're in the area and craving Peruvian, this place will definitely be one of our possible choices. read more
