It's been a while since I had Filipino food an was craving breakfast specifically when I came across this establishment. Ordered some Grubhub for carry out but ended up eating in the restaurant. We ordered the beef tapsilog bowl, and pork adobo bowl. The order was it ready when we arrived. But didn't take long for them to prepare a fresh plate. Maybe 10 minutes. The service was friendly and we even got some wonton sabao bowls as well. Food: the food hit the spot for my craving. My wife also enjoyed the meal as well! Portion size was good for the price with over 2 and a half cups of rice per serving from my estimate and ample meat for each dish as well. The meat was not as tender as I would have liked it for both dishes and the rice was slightly hard (half star off). The menudo didn't have the usual Filipino hot dogs and the bicol Express had a more orange coloring than I was used to (half star off). Went on an adventure to find a Filipino spot, and found Fili Eats tucked away in a corner in a Stanton shopping plaza. We were greeted by Kuya Ed, one of the owners of the place, and he was so kind and friendly throughout our time there. He asked us if it was our first time visiting, and offered us small samples of the dishes that they had in display. That hospitality alone was a 10/10 experience, you rarely experience that kind of service anywhere nowadays. Keep in mind that this is a turo-turo place (ready to serve), however there is also food that they cook when you order, like the silog meals and fried lumpia. We had the pleasure to chit chat with Kuya Ed, and he mentioned that they pride themselves in cooking homemade meals. Which was proven when we tasted the delicious dishes that they offered! We ordered the dishes of laing, dinakdakan, pancit, dinuguan, fried milkfish, fried vegetable lumpia and chicken skewers. All tasted amazing, and you can taste that the food was prepared and cooked with love and care. That is very hard to come by with Filipino turo-turo places because most have been commercialized. Prices were fair and reasonable and the place had a homey, cozy ambiance and was clean and sanitary. Lastly, we ordered the turon and the halo-halo, and ohhhhhhh the angels in the heavennnnnnnn sang when we tasted both of the desserts. My favorite was the halo-halo, because it did not only have the typical beans that most Filipino food places sell, theirs had ube jam, leche flan, ube ice cream, and sweetened banana (saba), jackfruit, and two kinds of beans, and pinipig (rice krispies). I came here on a Sunday during lunch and craved for some Filipino food in the area. Located at a shopping plaza next to Smart & Final Extra, I first heard of "Kainan sa Kanto" (Eatery on the Corner) because of my Tita who lives nearby. The small ambiance is very homey, in which they have a few tables, steam trays of their daily offerings and a few baked goods such as bagged pandesal in front. Service was pretty quick because they ask which items you want for a one or two item combo. Please note that they charge $1 more for beef or goat meat entrees and 50 cents if you're using a credit/debit card if the transaction is less than $20. As a result, I opted to pay in cash instead. I was pretty much impressed with their food quality. The kaldereta was a bit on the saltier side and kinda wished the beef was more soft. However, I liked the sauce because it was not too acidic. I'm truly I chose laing for the other entree. It was not dry and not too spicy and had the ideal umami taste. It had a perfect creamy texture of coconut milk blended with cooked taro leaves and pork bits. I even told the owner, "ang sarap po talaga ng luto niyo! Lalo na po yung laing niyo. (Your entrées are really tasty! Especially your laing". She even replied, "ay oo. Best seller ang laing namin. Binabalikan yan! (Yes. Our laing is the best seller. Patrons come back for it!). I was not able to finish my two item combo, so the owner offered some lids and a plastic bag to go. Before I left, I could not resist their turon. They also give you a sauce for it and it was so good! Tastes very similar to carnitas. The tocino tastes like Chinese bbq pork but this was more tender. The only disappointment was the lumpia. I was looking forward to this the most and they had very little filling so you tasted was the wrapper. They were so little too. Definitely so not recommend the lumpia from here. Kainan Sa Kanto was suggested to me by a friend after I inquired about where to get good inihaw. For those who don't know, inihaw is a marinated pork skewer that is typically cooked over a hibachi. Delicious, especially when washed down with a bottle of San Miguel beer! Kanto's inihaw takes me back to the beaches of Surigao... or was it Siargao? I forget; it was a blur of a three-week vacation!
