Great little mom and pop type Filipino deli, or what some like to call "turo-turo" (aka point-point) restaurant. You can get a 1-entree or 2-entree combo with rice, pancit, or half rice/half pancit. You can choose from a rotating variety of entrees: adobo, lechon kawali, dinuguan, Bicol express, mungo, fried fish, laing, kare kare, etc. For dessert, they have homemade suman (lightly sweetened glutinous rice cooked with coconut milk) in three flavors: regular, ube, & cassava. I apologize from the lack of photos. We were starved when we bought our food and started eating as soon as we got home! The food was on par with many other Filipino delis, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I gave them 4 out of 5 stars for the tasty variety and personable service, but no dish was a standout or an exemplary sample of Filipino cooking. Wonderful mom and pop dish up spot. I love box lunch Filipino and usually head to Orange or Cerritos. I didn't even know this was in my back yard till I did a search a couple weeks ago. The food was fresh and flavored perfectly. Not too salty or greasy. I love lichon kawali and theirs was super crispy. I got this for dinner and they were still very fresh. The lady serving me was just like a tita and gave me options. She said they have been there for 26 years! I'm coming back here again for sure. This review is for catering only. I haven't ordered or eaten the food served same day in a while. This my go-to place for catering a party or large group gathering. I always order the pancit (miki) tray which has the two different noodles. It's the best tasting pancit around & I've ordered from a lot of places. They don't skimp on the grilled chicken, cabbage & carrots. The noodles are cooked perfectly every time. I get so many compliments with this pancit. If you bring this pancit to your next party, you will be popular & loved (even more so if it's family). In fact, when I walk in the door to a family gathering, they drop what they're doing & run over to take the pancit tray from my hands to ensure I don't drop this precious cargo. Yeah, it's that good! I've also ordered the lumpia (small pork & large vegetable) & beef caldereta--all delish. The cook/chef back there has some serious talent in cooking good Filipino dishes. Went here for lunch on a Saturday with my Aunt, and niece at about 12 noon. It was good.. I haven't been here for about a year and I feel like the food is not good quality like it used to be. The food didn't seem as fresh. The food is good, but the people were very rude. My son went to pick up food for dinner. We wanted lumpia, skewers, and I really wanted pancit. We have a calamansi tree in our yard that is really good on the pancit. They were VERY rude to my son, saying we'd have to order it in the morning. We've gotten their food, including pancit, there many times! We've gotten small portions of pancit. They made him buy a $50 tray of pancit!!! No one else can eat it or doesn't really like it in my family. He didn't know what to do because that's all I wanted for dinner. He went ahead and bought the big tray. That was ridiculous. The way he was talked to is NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE! Maybe I need to find another place that has good pancit. The shame is we live so close. I don't know what's up with the yelling at him! Grabbed takeout from Kainan Sa Kanto in Stanton's Smart & Final Plaza. The BBQ chicken and pork skewers were full of flavor and quite tender. The lumpiang shanghai was crispy, just the way I like it. Also, tried the leche flan, which was creamy and satisfying. However, the puto bumbong could use some improvement in texture. Minimal dine-in seating available. I ordered a half tray of lumpia and pancit for my son's birthday for $116. I was very disappointed! The portion sizes were tiny, the lumpia had little to NO filling, and the food lacked flavor. For the pancit, there was very little protein!! There was some chicken on top of the pancit but nothing inside the dish. We had left overs and I couldn't find any chicken in the pancit!!! Some people don't like a hole in the wall, but to me that's usually where you find the best food! I have been craving lumpia for a while now so I did what any self respecting foodie does and googled "Lumpia near me." A handful of Filipino spots popped up but this place was closest to the office so I had to stop in! I don't know what the going rate on lumpia is but at .35¢ ea, my eyes got big, my palms started sweating... I wondered should I order a party tray just for myself? Super nice people here. Obviously, I didn't know what I was doing, so I had to ask a lot of questions. The food looked good, but I was looking for "non-pork" dishes for a friend. The lady was kind enough to only give me the chicken out of the adobo and I opted for the kare kare, which made up my two item combo. I wanted to add the pancit so she offered to give me half rice, half pancit. (perfect) Also got a side of two chicken screwers (which looked amazing) and a piece of the fried milk fish. ... and a "few" turon, to go. My Tesla told me to go here when I pressed the I'm Hungry button and it hasn't steered me wrong yet. My former inlaws are Filipino so I am generally familiar with the food. This is what they call a "point-point" place. You order a combo that comes with rice and then you point at the food items you want for your combo. I chose Bistek Tagalog and Tocino with garlic fried rice. The two-item combo was supposed to be under $10 but it came to over $12 probably because the beef and the garlic rice are considered upgrades. The garlic rice is worth it. The garlic pieces are browned which flavors all of the rice nicely. The Bistek was, as expected, sweet-salty well-done beef strips and onions. I think I would order that again even if I found it too dry. The Tocino is bright red pork pieces in a wet, sweet sauce. It reminds me of Char Su. I got a bone in one bite and a mouthful of fat in another bite, so maybe I wouldn't order that again even if the flavor was fine. The service was friendly and I was there very early, around 8 am, so I am looking forward to coming back and trying something else when all the steam trays are full. read more

From my experience, Kainan is similar to the ubiquitous Filipino restaurants all over Socal. The inside of the store is really small and there is a decent amount of selection. On this occasion I chose a 2 item combo. 1/2 rice and 1/2 pancit. For my entrée I chose beef & onions and the pork belly. A la carte I chose one chicken and one pork BBQ stick. The rice is the norm, but I thought the pancit was lacking on flavor. The beef & onions was good as well as the pork belly. I would get them again. I personally didn't like the BBQ sticks. The price was right at around 2 bucks a pop, but they weren't very tasty. For dessert, I did have a piece of turon and that was fresh and delicious. It had a great crunchy outside and the banana inside was well cooked. read more

Kanto is located on the corner of Katella & Knott. Friendly servers are talkative, suggesting their main dishes, and they even take the initiative to go into the kitchen to grab what's freshly made. We almost bought everything the server suggested, because it looked and sounded legit. Bottom line: Come here if you want some freshly cooked Filipino food! If you don't know what to get, I suggest you try the BBQ Chicken or Pork with rice and Pancit. They have sago, made to order halo-halo, and coconut juice by the can. For dessert, get the turon (banana egg roll with jackfruit). It's sooo addictive! The outside is perfectly sweet and crunchy. If you're into the more authentic dishes get the mongo, fried bangus, sisig, pinakbet, paksiw, kare-kare, etc. Do not attempt to bring large groups here because I think the maximum seating capacity is about only 8! read more
