It has quite a few seating spots in the front of the shop but there's also seating areas throughout Rodeo 39. We ordered the katsu chicken and shrimp mix plate and the spam brûlée musubi. The flavors were so delicious with their kimchi butter really making the dish! And I loved the brûlée on the spam musubi. When I went back to ask for help, the original cashier brushed me off saying she was on break, and a male server told me they didn't even have any Ube Beignets available??? Umm, wait it's less than an hour past opening time. Being "out" of a front-and-center promo item 30 minutes after opening feels like a bait-and-switch. Take the sign down if you can't honor it. Unsure where the hype even came from but when we checked the website and saw that they gave away food in return for reviews, we kind of see the bias. The chicken katsu in Kim chi butter is just mediocre. Nothing special. It's delicious but there have been times where the chicken katsu has been inconsistent for example it maybe be super crispy and seasoned well but the next time would be soggy and drenched in kimchi butter or it could be barely breaded and sloppily prepared. They handed me my food quickly and told me to enjoy. Overall, it was a very smooth and welcoming experience. Now for the food. The chicken sando was honestly delicious. Super flavorful, juicy, and just a really well-balanced sandwich overall. The kimchi butter sauce added a lot of flavor without overpowering it. I will say mine was not very hot temperature-wise, and the chicken was not as crispy as I expected, possibly because of the sauce. The bun also seemed more like a fresh Hawaiian roll straight from the pack rather than toasted or warmed. Even with that, the sandwich itself was still really good. Also, for anyone wondering, the "spicy" level was extremely mild to me. Flavorful, yes. Spicy, not really. I didn't even need a drink with it. Still, I would absolutely recommend the sandwich and order it again. The ube beignets were a little disappointing for me. The outside was crispy, the inside was fluffy, and the powdered sugar was nice. But the ube filling was very mild to the point where I could barely taste the ube flavor at all. I brought my kids here today, as I do about once a week. They love the musubis and enjoy the atmosphere. We always order the same things: musubis and a lemonade. We've been here a lot over the years since they opened, and we've never had an issue getting a lemonade refill with other employees. Never once. Maybe they were nice. Today, however, the employee at the front, Shien, told us they don't offer refills. She was in the back chatting away with another employee so maybe it was inconvenient for her to offer the refill as she would have to walk back to the front area, whatever might be. What made the experience especially frustrating for me was that I was using the opportunity to teach my son how to politely approach restaurant staff and ask for a refill himself. After being told no, he was embarrassed, and it turned what was supposed to be a positive learning experience into a disappointing one. As I walked over to ask for clarification, I noticed Shien and another employee looking in my direction, whispering, and laughing. I don't know if it was about me, but the timing and appearance didn't leave a good impression. If the restaurant has a new policy of not offering lemonade refills, that's completely their choice. I just think it should be communicated clearly at the time of purchase or posted on a sign, especially since their other drinks are refillable. Every other employee I've interacted with over the years has always been friendly and accommodating, which is one of the reasons we kept coming back. There are plenty of other dining options in the area, so unfortunately I don't plan on returning because of today's experience and a bad impression with the Shien girl. I've been craving some shrimp and katsu and Shootz had both on the same plate. Accompanying the plate was a Hawaiian mac salad which I wasn't too into.
