    Beef and Short Ribs

First time trying this spot and it did not disappoint! I ordered #7 Beef and Short Ribs with salad and mac salad. Very generous portions. The ribs were sooo juicy and tender with a nice char. The beef was a lil chewier in comparison so I think next time I'll stick with just the short ribs plate. Came on a weeknight for late dinner but the food was ready for pickup within 7 mins. Service was super quick and friendly and the vibes were great in there. Looks like there's plenty of seating if you want to dine in as well. Will definitely come back next time I'm craving ribs!

Let me just start off by saying the doesn't lack any flavor I had the Beef rib plate. Only thing I can say is the rice and Mac. Portions are small . Besides that everything else was on point

My friend and I were craving hawaiian food and had heard a lot of people rave about Matiki so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the beef rib plate and short rib plate, both with rice and mac salad. The beef rib was flavorful and had a generous amount of meat on it but it was a little dry. The short rib was on the fattier side, which made it really tasty but it was a bit sweeter than I personally prefer. The mac salad was pretty standard and didn't really stand out. I did appreciate that each plate came with a side of sauce and there was definitely no shortage of meat. We actually ended up with leftovers because the portions were so generous. I was a little surprised that an extra mac salad came with an additional charge, but considering the portion sizes the overall value still felt fair. The service was friendly and quick, and the restaurant itself was simple and clean. We enjoyed the meal and can see why people like this place. The portions were generous and it's a solid option if you're craving hawaiian food.

10/10 recommend!! The food is absolutely amazing. Expect to spend about 20 per plate! When we visited, there was a lot of delivery order which made the place a little packed, but the staff got the orders out quick! The food is delicious and authentic.

Ordered: - Kalbi plate - side of beef ribs - manapua (pork) Wow woww i HIGHLY suggest the beef ribs here. It was so tender, flavorful, and fell off the bone. Next time, I will only order the beef rib plate. The kalbi was a bit disappointing on the other hand. Kalbi was thin and dry, very chewy as well. Manapua was dry and the dough on the outside was a bit hard to bite into. Those are the only reasons why I can't give 5 stars. Will be back again for the beef rib plate & to try out the soft serve icecream. Service: 5/5, lady at register was kind and patient with explaining the menu. Atmosphere: 5/5, can get pretty crowded but there are many seats inside. Lots of parking outside too. TLDR; beef ribs worth the hype! skip kalbi and manapua.

Mac Salad : 8/10 needs green onions Chicken: 8/10 Short Ribs: 9/10 Side if Beef Rib: 10/10 This place is pretty solid. Not a place I would dine in at given the location. I payed $32.74 for my order. Overall, Everything was very delicious. I'm just disappointed they don't put green onions in their Mac salad as advertised. I advise pouring the Matiki sauce over the Mac salad and rice to give it way more flavor. Also the charge for extra Matiki Sauce is a bit absurd given the prices we are already paying.

Delicious food! Can't wait to eat from this restaurant again. Parking was a little hard to get, the place was busy and the places next door were also busy. Overall everything was so good. Got the Sam's Plate with mac. The lady was very nice, place was busy, phone wouldn't stop ringing, worth the drive and wait. (I actually placed my order by phone to go on the way there so didn't wait long)

This is a very iykyk hawaiian spot. The beef BBQ is a little dry but it taste fine once paired with their house-made sauce. The short ribs is what you want: great smoky and savory flavor that tastes even better with their sauce. Mac salad is also amazing -- I wish they gave more tbh The lady who works the front may come off as a little rude but she is a kind person. Seating is plentiful and spacious with a Hawaiian aesthetic. Definitely worth grabbing lunch here.

Tried Matiki Island BBQ in Anaheim on a Saturday after hearing great things from a coworker. You can see the smoke from behind the restaurant where they're grilling, which gives it that authentic vibe. We ordered the Big Kahuna plate (about $40 with tax) -- it's a big portion with chicken, ribs, and beef. Unfortunately, they were out of musubis around 2 p.m., which was a bummer. The food was okay but a bit dry, and the beef and chicken had a lot of nerves, making it a little tough to eat. The ribs were fatty and the mac salad was super heavy on the mayo. Overall, not terrible but not worth the hype or price. I've had better Hawaiian food elsewhere (like Maui's in Brea). Maybe it just depends on the day, but I probably wouldn't go back.

Good food and a chill place to eat. The plates are big and everything tastes fresh. The chicken and short ribs were really tender and had great flavor. The macaroni salad was solid too, not too heavy. The service was friendly, and the food came out pretty quick. Prices are fair for how much food you get. The place isn't fancy, but it has a relaxed island vibe -- simple décor, clean tables, and music that makes it feel warm and casual. I'd definitely go back, especially when I'm craving Hawaiian BBQ.

IYKYK about Matiki's!!! One of the best island ribs I have ever had!! The service is always great the aunties are always nice and super helpful. Kalbi plate is also a must try!!! Manapua is always a good side if you're really hungry!!! I wish they were closer to me in Gardena lol. But luckily I came here before going to the shooting range. Will always come back when I want my fix for island beef ribs!! They have about 8 tables in side, the Samoan music in the back is always a vibe even though I don't understand it lol. It alway just put a smile on my face.

I've been coming to this place for about a year now and I always leave very full and content ! Food is delicious and the cashier is always very nice and attentive. This plate plus an Arizona comes out to $23. The place is always clean , ready for you to sit and enjoy Your food !

They were so rude when I called because they missed stuff on my order and I paid extra and she kept saying "sorry not my problem "

Ask the Community - Matiki Island BBQ

Has anyone ordered catering from Matiki? I was wondering how many beef ribs per tray or approximately how many it serves. Thank you

I believe 3 but if you ask for extra meat they will give u 5 or 6 I believe

What ingredients are in your Mac salad? I have someone allergic to tuna and I know some Hawaiian places mix their Mac salads with tuna.

For sure NO tuna in it... I know this for sure because my son is allergic to seafood and he had it with no issues. I hope this helps.

Do u make butter fish dish?

I didn't see Butterfish as a menu option on my last visit about a month ago.

Holy moly! Did the prices here almost double?!

Holy moly did we all just go through (still going through) a pandemic!?

    Do they offer catering portions?

Yes they d at both locations, just let them know ahead of time

Any plans to make your food available to order through Ubereats/grubhub/ect?

They have it available at DoorDash and Postmates

When is the Fullerton location on Harbor Blvd going to open?

It is now open as of today.

    When is Fullerton location opening?

    Supposedly in October.

    Is there gluten in this?

They use a lot of soy sauce in their marinades so if you're very sensitive then you might be affected

    Do you guys sell manapuas?

I don't believe so but I could be wrong.

    Is there air conditioning?

    There's AC now :)

What comes in the big kahuna combo?

Kalbi, beef, chicken, rice, green salad and mac salad

What kind of dressing is on the salad?

It was a simple Asian vinaigrette, maybe rice wine vinegar?

I feel like a yelper that's been living under rocks. Can't believe I never heard of this place…read moreuntil I recently saw my fellow yelper Van D's review. This is western BBQ with an Asian flair. I think the flavor is better and slightly less heavy than a traditional American BBQ. Everything was so packed with flavor, can't really pick a favorite among so many great proteins. Smoked Brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender with a nice smokey taste. Green Curry Sausage was definitely unique with a really nice Thai infused flavors. Was slightly spicy with strong green curry and lemongrass flavors. Canton Bowl, which comes with smoked pork belly char siu, siu yuk (pork belly with super crispy skin), and coconut rice, was excellent as well. The siu yuk was really good with super crispy/crunchy skin. House-made BBQ sauces were quite good. I really like the gochujang bbq sauce. It has decent amount of heat with a sweet & spicy taste. The regular house BBQ sauce has a tangy, sweet taste with a very subtle heat. It's located at Cottage Industries. Not exactly sure what to call it. It's somewhat like a small community of restaurants and shops with a garden and a play area for kids. Parking is very limited so will most likely need to park on the streets along residential area. Service is minimal. You order at the counter and they give you a buzzer to let you know when the food is ready. Seating is only available outside in the covered patio area but you can also pick any of the community tables and chairs within Cottage Industries.

Unfortunately, the brisket was a bit disappointing because it wasn't tender and pretty dry. It tasted pretty good and paired with their gochujang bbq sauce made it taste better. I also asked for a leaner cut of meat but my meat were really fatty. I liked the cornbread and their butter was really good! The coleslaw was ok and the rice was dry with pork bits.

I have been coming here at least once a week, sometimes even more. I've always supported this restaurant, and I consistently tip my servers 20-30% because the servers have always worked hard and the service used to be amazing. Unfortunately, over the past couple of months, I've noticed a huge decline in the overall service and the way customers are treated. It really feels like something has changed with the management, because this is absolutely not the MR BBQ I've been loyal to for the last three years. Today was especially disappointing. I brought my family here to celebrate my brother's 21st birthday, and we were told the wait would be around 2 hours. I completely understand that restaurants get busy and that there is a waitlist. I wasn't demanding special treatment--I simply asked if there was anything they could do to possibly squeeze us in a little sooner since it was such a special occasion. I spoke with Luna and explained that it was my brother's 21st birthday and asked her to please see if there was anything she could do. Her attitude came across as very rude, dismissive, and completely uninterested in helping. There was no effort to make a longtime customer feel valued, no compassion, and not even a simple "let me see what I can do." The way the situation was handled made it feel like they simply did not care whether they lost our business. And that's the part that bothers me the most. I understand that being a regular customer doesn't mean I should be able to skip everyone else waiting. But after supporting a restaurant every single week for three years, you would hope to at least be treated with kindness and respect--especially when you're bringing your family there for an important celebration. Good management should recognize and appreciate loyal customers, not make them feel disposable. You can have great food, but when the hospitality and customer service start disappearing, eventually the loyal customers will disappear too. I have recommended MR BBQ to so many people over the years and have spent a significant amount of money here. I never thought I would be the person leaving them a negative review, but after watching the service continue to decline over the past few months and experiencing today's treatment, I felt like I needed to say something. The servers themselves have been a huge reason I've continued coming back, and many of them have always been wonderful. My frustration is with the direction the restaurant seems to be going under the current management and how loyal customers are being treated. After three years of being one of your most loyal customers, today genuinely made me question whether I ever want to come back. New management needs to understand that gaining customers is difficult, but losing loyal ones is very easy when you stop making them feel valued.

Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended for me. When I order from a BBQ restaurant, especially when I'm paying BBQ prices, I expect the brisket to be the standout item. Good brisket should be tender, juicy, flavorful, and have that rich smoky taste that comes from being cooked low and slow. Sadly, that wasn't my experience at all. The brisket I received was dry, tough, and lacked the depth of flavor I was expecting. Instead of being easy to pull apart or melt-in-your-mouth tender, it was chewy and difficult to eat. The seasoning and smoke flavor were also underwhelming, making the meat feel even more disappointing. As someone who specifically ordered brisket because it's usually the star of any BBQ menu, I was surprised by how far it fell short of expectations. I understand that delivery can sometimes affect food quality, but since the food arrived hot, I don't think temperature was the issue here. The problem was simply the quality and preparation of the brisket itself. Based on my experience, I would recommend that others skip the brisket. There are plenty of BBQ places that do brisket exceptionally well, and unfortunately this wasn't one of them. I was really looking forward to this meal and ended up disappointed. I can't see myself ordering the brisket again.
