Matiki Island BBQ on Lincoln in Anaheim is the kind of place that makes a family dinner feel easy. We went for the island BBQ plate energy, and it delivered. The beef ribs were really good, big and properly cooked, the kind of meat you actually talk about on the way home. The galbi was right there with them, savory and satisfying, and between the two we were set. The kids loved the spam musubi. That alone would have made the stop worth it for us. Spam musubi is one of those things that either works for kids or turns into a negotiation, and here there was no negotiation. They were happy, which meant the adults got to eat in peace for a minute. Dessert sealed it. They have a version of Dole Whip that tastes just like Disneyland. I am not being cute about that. Same soft, cold, pineapple hit you remember from the park, which is a wild thing to get after a plate of ribs in Anaheim. We finished full and already half-planning the next visit. One caveat: it was really smoky inside. Enough that I noticed it the whole meal. If I could give 4.5 I would, but I'm rounding up because the food was that good. Portions felt solid for a plate-lunch place, the vibe was casual and family-friendly, and nothing about the meal felt fussy. Not much has changed the parking lot is still small and crammed. Service is on and off, hot and cold, friendly/ not friendly. Tons of spacious seating inside. The music will be loud so be ready I'm glad the workers can enjoy the music hope it helps them enjoy their work day. The food takes a while to cook 10+ mins I definitely recommend ordering ahead on the phone. Also recommend checking your order opening the boxes up before you leave we are all humans and can make mistakes. The rice is too mushy and the meat isn't consistent if these were fixed it would be a 5/5 for me. But what helps save the day is the flavors from the meat and their sauce. They are everything that makes me keep coming back to this place. The sauce is amazing sweet, salty, savory, addicting goodness I need them to sell it in a bottle I want to put it on everything. My go to orders are #1 ribs plate and #4 beef plate with rice and mac salad. These two meals are huge and can last me up to 2 full meals for a family of 3. If your craving Hawaiian bbq come here also satisfies my kbbq cravings too so a win is a win. Little hidden gem! We got the beef and short rib combo with green salad. Green salad and rice were fresh, salad dressing was yummy, and the short ribs were SSSOOOOOO GOOOOODDDDDD. I also love that they have a bottle of thin teriyaki sauce, I think it is, available at the tables. The beef was ok. Would probably skip on that next time and just order up on the short ribs. This is a very iykyk hawaiian spot. The beef BBQ is a little dry but it taste fine once paired with their house-made sauce. We came here after a friend's recommendation and his blurry memory of it being one of the best Hawaiian restaurants he's been to. You can tell it's a very popular restaurant. We got the: 1) Beef Rib Plate (Sam's Plate): -This is THE DISH you have to order form here. -It comes with macaroni salad and rice. -It's teriyaki BBQ beef ribs charred to perfection. That's not something you get very often at other restaurants since they have a full ridged (don't know what it's called) grill and not just the flat top. -Delicious smoky flavor, meat is super moist and tender. The fatty bits are super indulgently delicious as well. Must get every single time. 2) Kalua Pork Plate: -Also comes with rice and mac salad. -Super moist and flavorful pork, very wet and perfect to balance out the ribs dish that we got. Comes with a LOT of cabbage though and at first we thought it wasn't worth it, but all the pork is underneath so no worries! The mac salad is truly the king of mac salads. We first tried Matiki Island BBQ in Las Vegas and didn't even realize there was one near LA, so we gladly drove to OC to satisfy the craving. Love pork Manapua, which was totally different than I expected. It had a mushy pork paste consistency. Not a fan and the SPAM misubi either, lacked any flavor.
