Tried Chafinity Tea House after spotting a new matcha spot and figured we'd give it a shot. Overall, it was an okay experience. We ordered the hojicha latte and the matcha picollo. Both drinks were decent, but nothing particularly memorable. One thing I did like was the option to customize your sweetener--they offer choices like maple syrup and honey, and the maple syrup was a nice, unique touch. We initially went with half sweetener, but ended up adding more since the drinks tasted a bit bland and needed that extra boost of sweetness to really come together. We visited on a weekday, so the wait wasn't bad at all, which was a plus. I've been coming here for months, and it is easily my favorite matcha place of all time. Not only is the ambience of the tea house amazing in itself being outdoors with beautiful greenery, fountain, incense, and soothing/calming music... the tea itself is unmatched in taste, preparation, and intentionality. I love Chafinity's mission of honoring traditional Japanese matcha preparation, as well as also serving sencha and other loose leaf teas. They do not compromise on their values whatsoever to hop on current drink trends... they serve delicious hot matcha lattes with high quality matcha from Kagoshima, Japan and have a close relationship with the farmers who harvest the tea. My go-tos are the hot hojicha and hot matcha lattes served unsweetened with their delicious homemade walnut milk. Not only do their lattes honor the true, authentic flavor of the teas, but the walnut milk in itself is delicious and naturally sweetened with dates and is unlike any other nut milks I've ever tasted. I also am a regular customer of their premium Gokoro matcha powder which I prepare at home myself. This matcha is honestly the best matcha I've tasted compared to other matchas I've tried all over California, and even in New York (I'm a self-proclaimed matcha snob and have very high standards for matcha flavor!). Not to mention to mention the amazing businesses they collaborate with that prepare their mochi and wagashi (Japanese sweets)! For matcha latte, there was only one option for matcha powder while there were two choices for usucha and I don't mind it because their matcha latte were similar to what I got in Japan or made at home. I came two times, one on a weekday morning and the place was empty, parking was easy to find, and the order took about 5 minutes. One later on a weekday afternoon before they closed, which were packed. The parking could easily get horrible. The ambiance was cute, they have a few tables for dine-in. I saw this tea house on Instagram and looked very popular so thought I would check it out! It is a very small cute authentic Japanese teahouse. not really much seating The Matcha is basic in terms of just Matcha and milk. The only sweeteners they have are a maple syrup and honey. There are no fruit flavors. The milks our homemade, but the oat milk is rice based so I ordered the almond which I didn't care for. My only downfall with this place is after I ordered and paid, the girl told me it would be a 30 minute wait which would've been nice to know prior to ordering. Parking here is rough at times, but it really depends on the day and time you come. They are located right next to the Seed Peoples Market. Wifey and I pulled up around 11am and it was about a 25 minute wait until we ordered. They have about 7-8 tables for seating right in front of the shop. For their menu, they have matcha, hojicha, and tea drinks with all of their ingredients being sourced from Japan. We ended up trying the Hojicha Latte and the Matcha Latte and could definitely taste the quality in it. All of the staff here are very friendly and helpful. What a lovely little hidden gem in The Camp. It's delightful to find a place that's serious about serving traditional matcha. I ordered the House Matcha and wagashi, and it was delicious. The rich matcha flavor was complemented perfectly by the soft black sesame confection. My husband got a matcha latte and our son got the sparkling matcha yuzu. The matcha shop competition continues with Chafinity which recently opened in the CAMP plaza. Although some of the pricing is on the pricier side, I do think for the most part, the experience and flavors are worthwhile. First, not a fault of Chafinity but if it's your first time coming to the CAMP plaza, you should be aware that parking is pretty scarce, especially around the busier lunch periods. There is valet for $6 available as another option. Chafinity itself is an outdoors cafe that is near the back of the CAMP area. Loved the decor and ambiance with a very peaceful vibe and great set-up/stall that has some merchandise/matcha powder as you get near the cashier. On a Saturday, yes, it was pretty busy. The line was out the entry area and took about 20 minutes (ish). That also means that tables in the vicinity are a little tough to come by. Some people waited + hovered around, but there was also at least a lot of areas to roam around. Let's talk about what we got!: *Matcha latte: The matcha latte was solid for me. They had either oat milk or some homemade nut milks that were interesting! They also give samples for the nut milks as well. I ended up going with the oat and the strawberry mochi. The matcha wasn't too earthy and the oat milk didn't overpower. I also didn't go with any syrup, but they did have some near the napkins if you needed to add them. *Mochi: They had several different kinds of mochi from strawberry to black sesame as well as some weekly specials. I think the black sesame was good and the weekly special. I thought the strawberry was the weakest of the ones we tried since it was just a big strawberry on top of a regular red bean filled mochi. *Yuzu matcha: This was a fizzy drink with sparkling water, maple syrup, yuzu, and matcha. I also adjusted the sweetness to 50%. I'm assuming it is the sweetness adjustment but unfortunately didn't work for me. I could only really taste the sparkling water and a little bit of the matcha and not much of the yuzu. Would recommend either going with the full sweetness. All-in-all, would definitely come back if I'm in the area! read more

Chafinity isn't really selling matcha. It's selling intentionality. Before you even walk inside, there's a menu on a stand so you can decide what you want without feeling rushed. Then there's another menu once you're inside. The drinks are displayed beside the register. Every step feels considered. You get the sense that someone actually thought about how people move through the space instead of simply trying to push a line through. The tea house itself is tiny and beautifully understated. You can see much of the preparation happening behind the counter and whether it's the equipment, the careful whisking or simply the pace of everyone working there, it creates immediate confidence that they care about what they're making. The matcha was excellent. Smooth, rich, earthy and not overloaded with sweetness like so many places today. Whether you're enough of an expert to tell the difference between ceremonial grades is another question, but it tastes clean, feels thoughtfully prepared and somehow makes you slow down. Maybe that's the point. The downside is the price. Around $14 for a relatively small drink is hard to ignore. You're paying as much for the experience as you are for the tea. It's also surprisingly warm inside. There isn't much airflow, so on a hot Southern California afternoon it can get uncomfortable if you're planning to linger. Still, the experience stays with you. The drinks are beautiful, the atmosphere is calming and everything feels intentionally crafted instead of mass produced. I don't know if drinking premium matcha makes me healthier, but it certainly makes me feel like I'm making a better decision than grabbing another sugary coffee. Is it worth $14 every day? Definitely not. Is it worth visiting at least once if you appreciate thoughtful design, beautiful spaces and exceptionally prepared matcha? Absolutely. read more

Very disappointing experience and extremely poor customer service. The first time I visited this matcha shop, I ordered 10 cups of matcha, each around $11 for an 8 oz cup. The staff asked if I wanted whole milk or another type of milk. I asked if they had oat milk, and they changed it for me, but they never told me there would be an extra $2 charge for the milk. The second time, I came back and ordered three of their cheapest 8 oz matcha drinks, which were $9 each. I told them I was not drinking them right away, so I did not want ice. I never asked for extra milk. However, when I tried the drinks, they were mostly milk and barely tasted like matcha. When I mentioned this, instead of offering to remake the drinks or fix the problem, the employee was told me that I have to pay extra for more matcha because their matcha is expensive. And also told me next time, if I order no ice, I need to specifically tell them to not add extra milk. I have never experienced this kind of customer service at a drink shop before. The matcha is already very expensive, and I feel that the mistake was made by the shop, but I was still have to pay an additional $4 to fix the drink. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. I've been dying to try this place and was finally able to make the trip! The staff was extremely friendly and the whole vibe of the place was really nice. Seating was a little limited just due to the crowds but eventually we were able to snag a spot. As for the matcha, my friend and I both really enjoyed our drinks! Chafinity is like a neat, hidden little matcha spot in the Camp. It's in the middle and it threw me off seeing it at first since I wondered where it could be. Since it's in the Camp, parking is going to be a bit tougher during busy hours. If parking is bad, seating is about the same or worse as it's in a crowded area, so it's a bit tough if you want the full experience. The wait wasn't too bad going at around 12 pm on a week day, but a line did form eventually. It took probably 5-10 minutes getting everything out, but to be honest, I kind of get the feeling of paying for the aesthetic. To address the elephant in the room, most people are coming for the matcha. The biggest issue for me is how milky the default matcha latte is. We used the koji oat milk for both, and it was basically just milk with a hint of matcha, which I ended up having to douse with their maple syrup and honey as it wasn't exactly my cup of tea to have by itself. It didn't exactly bring out the flavor much more, but it made it better to drink. On the opposite side of spectrum, the matcha piccolo was basically just a small double matcha shot. Way stronger, less milky obviously, but we also had to put in syrup to bring out the flavor more. I will say that this was better once doing so and I'd probably get that instead, but it's a bit tough to justify for how small it is (given the matcha shortage it makes sense but still hurts ). The miso soup was honestly really good though, way more rich and flavorful than your average miso soup so props to that. The strawberry daifuku mochi was okay, but the black sesame mochi was really good. Heavily taxed but I did enjoy this as a dessert. Overall just feel like Chafinity is aesthetics forward, which is good for an experience, but going through their menu wasn't as good in my opinion. read more
