I wanted to give higher marks, but there were some real issues that I just couldn't get past 1 - Once we were seated it took 3 passes to get the drinks correct...thats not something I would expect especially on a Friday night and we are not asking for anything special... a dry martini - up with a twist and an old fashion... BTW never muddle the cherry in an old fashion 2 - We sent one of the apps back twice - at least it didn't take 3 passes at that 3 - We had no idea that the bathroom was on the second floor in the real bar area - That was an issue for our 12yr old girls we had with us - But maybe thats a bit on us as well...suggestion would be to let your downstair dinner patrons know up front That said, once we got into ordering things went quite a bit better. We ordered: - The burrata - Ok...this was really tasty - Ahi tuna poke tacos - Really fresh and well put together - My daughter and I had the Brush creek wagyu burger - so, this was really a great burger - Order it medium rare!!! - My wife had the Hot and crunchy halibut - Likewise, very well executed and tasty - My daughters friend had the Wild mushroom bolognese - She gave it 2 thumbs up and ate it all All in all, I will have to come back and see if what we experienced was merely a 1 off...because the food was on point. Made a reservation for dinner on a Saturday night. Got a corner table near the bar that was great for people watching. Got in our drink orders, and took advantage of the Yelp Check-in free Street Corn Appetizer. App came out quickly, and was pretty good. Came with a ton of chips, and a mild, fresh street corn. For dinner I got the Chicken Enchiladas. Very fresh tasting tomatoes, herbs, and avocado. Enchiladas themselves were OK. My wife got the Turkey Burger. Also pretty good, and it came with a large pile of fries. They were a bit heavy on the salt, but hot and fresh. Service was a bit plodding. We were there about an hour and 15 minutes, and had one glass of wine each. Server seemed a bit behind the curve, and we did have to send out ticket back with him to make a correction. You have to look at Caroline as two separate entities, one is there coffee & pastry shop in the back, and the other is their restaurant. Although I have been to both many times, it's their coffee shop that has me returning so frequently. Ever since I got turned on to Bulletproof Coffee, Caroline is the only place so far that I have been able to order it, and it's amazingly great. Their brew has low toxin coffee beans, unsalted grass-fed butter which adds a healthy milk fat and coconut oil. I know, when I first heard of this combo I had my doubts but I am now hooked on it. Many claim that it helps to melt fat while building muscle and it suppresses your hunger to boot. I really don't care because it's so good that I would order it any way. As far as their other java selections, my wife always has the latte and she raves about it so I know that you can't go wrong with whatever your coffee choice is. Now, their house made pastries are extra flaky and always freshly baked daily. But when they're gone, they're gone. Get their early enough to try their uniquely different cinnamon roll, it's a cross between a sticky roll and a cinnamon roll - I got 2 for Valentine's Day. Cool vibes and good food. The bartender was very friendly and fast. Left off a star for the host who refused to sit me despite the restaurant literally being half empty. When I came in, the host told me there would be a 30-minute wait to be seated, and asked if I'd just want to take it to go. I looked around and thought that was weird because of all the empty tables, but figured maybe they were reserved. I asked about the bar and the host made a face and said "you could try to find a seat but it's a little crammed." There were literally 5 open seats at the bar! What was even more frustrating was seeing THREE different tables (2 parties of 1, 1 party of two) get seated minutes after me, all near me in the bar area. At the end of my meal I walked up to the host on my way out and asked why I was turned down. She said something about trying to manage tables that weren't bussed yet, and then I said, okay but then why tell me 30 mins instead of 5? She gave up and apologized. The whole interaction really threw me off. Restaurants can quite literally get sued for denying service this way, so hopefully they can train their hosts a bit better to avoid future situations like this. read more

This place was great. We had a birthday and a vegan in the group, and this place catered to both! My husband's "tacos" were ridiculous in size, laughable really... My pasta was fantastic, but I added chicken and shouldn't have. It masked the flavor of the wild mushrooms. The vegan had quinoa Chilli, birthday girl had lobster Artichoke dip, and all around were, 'Mmm's', and 'Yum's'. Our server was well-informed and really sweet. She made sure that we understood what our vegan options were. And she took really good care of our table. At the end , she brought out a complimentary birthday girl brownie , which came from a selection of three options. Overall the experience was really nice. If you come in from the coffee shop side of the restaurant , just keep heading on down until you see the hostess stand. There is a little bit of confusion as there are some stairs that lead up that say Caroline upstairs. But that's not what you're looking for. The restaurant is definitely on the ground floor and on the corner of the building. It has wrap around store front windows that you can see up and down Congress Avenue. Unfortunately, you can not see the state capital, but it is just a few steps away, so if that's on your agenda, you are close by. read more

Their menu is great- wonderful choices for coffees, smoothies, juices and of course food. Our group loved the Marshmallow Latte, Matcha Latte, and Detox Juice. I had the Sweet Corn Cake Benedict and it was delicious. It's a jalapeño cheddar corn cake with the poached eggs on top, avocado and a corn salsa. I also ordered Chicken Sausage on the side. Part One- I met up with a few friends for some drinks before a comedy show at The Paramount. We were in the upstairs portion which offered cocktails and small bites. It was a chilly night and a bit rainy but they had heaters ablaze as well as small fire pits per table! Our server was very friendly & answered any questions we had about drinks as we had never been before. She even made an accommodation to an already offered drink (hasta la guava) so that it wasn't as sweet as it usually is just for me! Great vibe overall so we decided to try the downstairs restaurant the following night. Part Two- Cut to the next night, we had a different experience from the previous night and it was a total bummer. We had a nice table inside and our server was very absent; to the point where we were having to flag him down to grab his attention. Not quite sure if there was enough staff to accommodate the patrons? He also had to ask my order again a minute after taking it, which he forgot to add the protein I asked for. I was really excited for the food but it was a pretty big let down. Items ordered were Brussels Salad (flavorless) and the Warm Chocolate Cake ( dry & one dimensional). The only consistent thing this place has is the drinks. Shots Fired, Pomegranate Mule and Old Fashioned are top notch. Come here for cocktails and ambiance, skip out on the overpriced food. My friend ordered salmon plate and I had the enchiladas. We also shared the spicy deviled eggs, which were pretty good. My enchiladas was also very flavorful, I really enjoyed the crispy tortillas with the salsa sauce. But the salmon plate was really bland. The upstairs opens after 4pm and it had great views.
