Chicken shawarma plate with 2 sides.
    Med F.

Was there last week and certainly well worth every bit of 5 stars. Amazing chicken & beef shawarma, hummus, baba ganoush, tabouli, and beet salad. Baklava out of this world. The lady owner is very friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is very inviting. Took some sweets to go for a dinner party. We shall be back many times.

Talk about a hidden GEM!!! so authentic and so freaking goood!!! I got a plate and 2 sides i think? You are able to pick half portions to try more things in their cafeteria style line. The meat was tender, flavorful, and worth it. Their hummus was....incredible. Might be the best i've had in austin??

So much delicious authentic food for such a great price! My friends have been raving about this place, so I was so happy to experience it, and it didn't disappoint! The meat is cut before your eyes, and the plates are assembled before you which I love! I tried the beef and the chicken shawarma and I was surprised to find that I actually liked the chicken better. It was so juicy! The beef did feel a little drier, but maybe it was because it was closer to the end of the day. The dolma and potatoes were also so good and flavorful. And the white sauce that comes with the plate is so addicting. The pita was really good too, they heat it up for you so it comes out warm. And I like that you can actually split it open into a pocket. I definitely want to try the wraps next time, as well as their desserts.

This was a cool spot a friend showed me. I enjoyed the meal. Everything tasted fresh. Shawerma was tasty. Hummus was 10/10. Their falafel tasted like it had more veggies in it. The service was great and helpful with all my questions. I never knew it was there and had never heard of it. Glad I was shown this on The setup of the food and layout is nice. You see everything up close. Behind glass of course.

I have been wanting to try peace bakery for the longest time and I finally did! Me and my boyfriend had a great experience here. The staff was very kind and helpful, the food was fantastic and there was plenty of seating. The hummus was very good, definitely a classic simple hummus but they've perfected it. The chicken and beef shawarma wraps were also great! So much flavor and they can make it spicy if you ask for it. Excited to come back!

The consistency of this place is great. I've had a chance to try almost all of their offerings, and without a doubt, this place serves up large amounts of delicious offerings. Again, you basically pick sides (half or whole sides) and choose meat to go along with. If you want multiple meats, just ask for the item as extra meat. Of course, you'll know this if you come here often; sometimes the staff will give you that tip. My go-tos are basically hummus (spicy), veggie baba, or just plain baba, tabouli, grape leaves, chickpea salad, cucumbers salad, beet salad, sometimes tzaiki, and olive salad. For meats I often opt for the kefta stew, eggplant, roasted chicken (you can choose if you want half, whole, and which part), or some of their specials, such as stewed lamb chops in tahini sauce, their BBQ beef stew, roasted chicken with almonds and onions on pita bread, or a myriad of other options. I'm also addicted to their rice which usually accompanies their meat. They also have schwarma, but I prefer what they have out front. Bread comes complimentary. Then they have their desserts--numerous filo pastry doughs in different shapes with different nuts, and dessert cheese. Their food is filling and prepared well. They've recently obtained a food truck which they plan to pop-up in a few different locations, although they still seem to be deciding long term where to situate it. Also, they've replaced their table tops recently. It was about time, since they were getting a bit worn. Their upper level (the part up the steps) seems to be nearing completion, and it is currently a place for storing their pita bread.

I love peace bakery! It's so good!! The chicken shawarma is delicious. The rice is not that great, but the potatoes are so flavorful! Great price and great portions!

Good food, delicious pita bread they sell in addition, nice service. Just one thing, the young man was finishing my wrap with bare hands, no gloves, and I did not see him washing them in between tasks. And I am also not a fan of food sitting for a long time in big pans, being heated for unknown time. I know some other places change them often, because the food sells out pretty quick.

The place I've been looking for! Best in Austin with decent portions. Everything is authentic and delicious. Come hungry!

A wide variety of delicious sides, some of which I didn't recognize., and offered with very generous portions. A very long serving line filled with sheet pans of middle Eastern pastries, including a few I'm sure I've never seen before. Falafel cooked to order & delivered to the table (totally worth the wait - best ever!) Middle Eastern (Arabic?) music, "Free Palestine" sticker on the door, cash preferred. Good pita bread, amazing beets, friendly patient service.

Authentic, fresh food! We got there before closing and they still had plenty of sides and desserts left. There are so many options of veggies, this is the place to go if you need healthy food. We got the lamb shank and roasted chicken, and I think the roasted chicken was much better. One meat with two sides is about $15, and it comes with pita bread!

Potatoes, tahni baba ganoush, tabouli, and olive and tomato salad

Peace Bakery & Deli is one of the best restaurants in North Austin. My partner has always been a huge fan of Mediterranean restaurants, but I never fell in love with the food until I tried Peace's Palestinian-style cuisine. The food here is truly special, and every experience is better than the last. My favorite thing to order here is the falafel plate. The falafel is fried-to-order, so it is so fresh and delicious. There is a cafeteria style buffet of amazing sides to choose from. Some of my favorites are the tahni baba ganoush, the tabouli, and the potatoes (can be a bit spicy for me but I'm a spice wimp). Their tzatziki sauce is also amazing. The menu caters to both vegetarians and meat eaters alike. I wish I could speak to the amazing shawarma options they serve, but I am not a meat eater, so look to the other reviews for this. I can say my two dogs have tried a taste of the lamb, and they were in absolute heaven. I also have enjoyed both the zatar and cheese pitas (kind of like a pita pizza), and the staff will warm them in the oven for you (or you can warm yourself at home). Complete your dining experience with THE best baklava in Austin. ZOMG, all of the options are all so good. I think the walnut is my favorite, or the pistachio, or is it the cashew? You cannot go wrong. Finally, as if the delicious, fresh, healthy food wasn't enough to convince you to try Peace out, this family-owned restaurant has the kindest, most caring and personable staff. Each time we go in there, the owners, family, and staff (especially Ali) make us feel more like friends than customers, and I see them take this same care with each returning customer, asking questions about their lives and remembering their favorite foods. Peace Bakery & Deli is a treasure in Austin, and I highly recommend trying it out!

Vegetarian Platter and side of beef
    Tracey Z.

This place has been on my list for a while. Unfortunately walking in they didn't have falafel so the only other vegetarian option was a vegetarian platter. I thought the service could have been better, the staff seemed tired and wanting to go home. The vegetarian platter was huge - portion sizes here in general are very large. Enough for 3 people! It was cool to try each item - the walnut dip stood out to me in particular. Also enjoyed the hummus, beets and tahini. The potatoes were kind of disappointing.

Fresh pita & dips (free) - 5/5 As soon as we sat down the waiter brought out pita and a special dip that I never tried in other restaurants, and the pita was still warm like it had just come out of the oven. Soft, fluffy, and really fresh. I used it to dip into the sides we ordered later--the Baba Ghanouj and Hummus. The baba ghanouj had that roasted eggplant smokiness, while the hummus was thick, creamy, and very sesame-forward. Both were solid. Flatbread Trio ($15) - 5/5 This comes with three pieces but you can order a plate of three in the same kinds: meat, za'atar spice, and cheese. The za'atar one had that unique flavor--thyme, sumac, sesame seeds. The cheese flatbread came out hot and stretchy with three cheeses melted together. The meat one had minced beef and vegetables on a thin crust with slightly crispy edges. This one really impressed me. Lamb Kabob Platter ($19) - 4/5 Ground lamb mixed with onion and spices and grilled. The texture was fairly firm and the seasoning was pretty strong--you mostly taste the spices rather than the lamb itself. It comes with grilled tomato and onion, which adds a nice bit of sweetness and balances things out. It also comes with 2 sides--we chose baba ghanouj and hummus. The sides portion is really generous. Mixed Grill Combination ($23) - 4.5/5 It includes beef tenderloin, kafta skewers, and chicken shish tawook. The beef had a nice smoky grill flavor and was quite tender. The kafta had the strongest seasoning, and the chicken ended up being the lightest and juiciest of the three. It also comes with 2 sides--we chose baba ghanouj and salad. House dessert (pistachio pastry, $6) - 4/5 Looks pretty simple, but inside there's pistachio filling that gives it a really nice nutty sweetness. Not overly sugary, which I liked. I hope it could improve its appearance a bit. The food felt comforting and homey rather than fancy, and the portions were generous for the price.

It was their very first time trying Mediterranean food, and they absolutely loved it! We started with two different types of hummus served with pita. The hummus was incredibly flavorful, and the pita was exceptionally fresh. We also ordered the falafel, which was perfectly prepared and delicious. For the main course, we shared the Chicken Shish Taouk with sides of beet salsa and Lebanese potatoes--everything was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. Honestly, the highlight of the meal for us was the drinks. The mint juice and beet juice were so refreshing and easily the best part! We finished our meal with baklava and basbousa for dessert, and both were fresh, sweet, and incredibly tasty. Beyond the fantastic food, the ambiance is very neat and clean, and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. They were happy to chat with us without forcing conversation. As a group of 3 we ordered the traditional hummus, whipped bulgarian feta, beet tahini, the cucumber labne, falafel, pan fried halloumi and baklava apple pie for dessert. The group was not what I would call big eaters so we had leftovers (we likely should have ordered 1 less dish), they recommend 2-3 dishes per person (dips and meze). The hummus was decent, but I would not feel the need to order it again, the bulgarian feta was delicious and was tied with best dish of the night with the falafel. The falafel had perfect texture, crispy on the outside without cutting your mouth and soft on the inside. The beet tahini just tasted like beets and nothing else so I would not get that again. The cucumber labne was tasty and the halloumi was the only dish I took a bite of and would not take another. The texture of the cheese was rubbery, so despite having a crunchy exterior and delicious sauce underneath, I found the halloumi to be extremely disappointing. I am not a chef, but if they simply grilled the halloumi and served it on top of the sauce I think it would be much better. Desserts are not my thing but my friends enjoyed it even though they admitted the baklava apple pie was painfully sweet. I liked that it came with labne ice cream to make it a bit different. Overall it was a nice meal, the ambiance is modern and clean and the service was fantastic. A good spot for a nice dinner out.
