    Chicken Over Rice
    Carrie M.

I was impressed by this halal food truck in a gas station parking lot. The picnic tables could use some cleaning, but the food was so good. We got the chicken over rice plate, and it was a large portion for $13. The flavours were great, although I wish they had offered additional sauce to add some heat, which is what I'm used to at other halal restaurants. It's open until 3am Friday and Saturday, which is so nice.

Holy mother of gyros...this place reminded of the famous halal brothers cart in NYC (53rd street) - minus the hour long wait! Food was just as good. Got the lamb/chicken combo over rice. They could have added more sauce, but all you need to do is ask. Will absolutely be returning!

    Combo over rice!

Halal Taza is my newest spot for a Halal in a truck by my employer - North Austin Medical Center. Each time I visit this food truck, I get my standard option: a combo (chicken and lamb) over rice. The tin is always filled with seasoned chicken and lamb over rice, covering a bed of saffron-flavored rice. The dish is covered with a white sauce (ranch-like) with additional heaps of their hot sauce upon request! Also, the dish's richness is broken up by a fresh salad and pickled vegetables! Finally, If you are by the domain, look up Halal Taza and give them a try. They are located by the soccer stadium in a food truck but well worth the drive!

Run don't walk!!! I always talk smack about Austin's food truck scene, because I hate being forced to sit outside. Halal Taza FOR YOU I WILL! The combination over rice plate went crazyyyyy. It's presented very wet looking, as they squeeze tzatziki and tahini all over the chicken shawarma and perfectly chopped lamb gyro! It looks displeasing with the plastic squishing it all in, but you'll soon find out it's because this plate is STUFFED TO THE BRIM! Hell, they used shredded lettuce as a base to the cucumbers, onions and tomatoes, to the side. And even the shredded lettuce tasted good! Not a wilt in sight! Topped with dark, super marinated pickles, you'd think that would be the end to a perfectly flavorful plate. Yet, there's more! The hot sauce on the side.... Chilllld, it is vinegary, aromatic, spicy goodness in a cup. Came here by accident. Will return here on purpose!

Halal Taza is perfect for comfort Mediterranean food. Big portions and tasty food for a good price (~$12-$13). A great staple for anyone looking for Halal food, plus they're open really late. There's some outdoor seating, but it can be somewhat limited. Taste-wise I'd say they beat other Halal places like Halal Hub and maybe even Halal Bros. Definitely give them a try!

    Falafel wrap

The falafel wrap was DELICIOUS even though I omitted the tzatziki. Would you consider offering a kid-sized version? It was like a ginormous soft taco and I couldn't eat it without getting sauce and salad all over my lap, the wall, etc. lol. Workers were very friendly. Vegans, check this one out.

The best Halal food truck in the area, the portions, the pricing and the freshness can't be beat and they're open until 3 AM on Friday and Saturday night. Do yourself a favor whether you're swinging by for dinner or lunch try some lamb over rice or are you in the shredded chicken over rice we got both this evening and this is not my first time here so it's not a one hit wonder it's a go to when you have a taste for the Mediterranean delicious! They full meals $25 and you have enough leftover for the next day or second lunch whatever floats your boat just make sure you give it a try!

I stopped by for a quick lunch and got a gyro and chicken combo platter to go. It was very tasty without being too salty and greasy like some other halal platters I've had. The hot sauce is a bit different from other places in that it has pepper flakes and is more tangy but I thought it was really tasty. The portion size was good and I'd definitely come back for a quick meal.

    Lamb gyro

Delicious! I've eaten here a few times and it's always so tasty. The meat has a lil extra something to it. Usually get the gyro but plates are also great. Gyro in pic is way bigger and way more tasty than it looks. Great value. I ate the whole thing and I'm uncomfortably full, but I had to finish it. You can get gas and order food while you wait, find a parking space and sit on the picnic tables or quickly p/u. Love this place when I'm running errands or before/after a soccer game.

I love mushrooms and thought about trying the Laughing Buddha which has a breaded/fried mushroom caps with cheese in between, but it might have been a bit too much cheese so I went with the Double Cheeseburger. The double cheeseburger is pretty much everything you want in a solid burger. 2 juicy smashed patties, perfectly melted cheese, and a great balance of toppings without being messy. The flavor is bold and beefy, and you can tell they use quality ingredients. It's the kind of burger that hits the spot from the first bite to the last. The cajun fries were super crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, and the onion rings ended up being one of the standout sides. They were thick-cut, crunchy, and not greasy at all, with a light batter that let the onion actually shine. Both dip well in their nirvana sauce. Service was friendly, and food came out hot. If you're craving a classic, well-made burger meal in Austin, Buddha Burger is absolutely worth a visit. Value wise, I'm still a Buddy's Burger fan as they're also super solid, but Buddha Burger is great too if you're in the area. Do be careful going up and down their stairs to order/pick up order.

Cousin's Maine Lobster Truck is a weird experience…read more It was fun to do once. I am probably not going to follow the truck from town to town so I never miss a single chance to get a lobster roll. * * * Cousin's Maine Lobster is a franchise of very very mobile trucks that sell lobster rolls. They also sell other lobster-on-top-of-stuff dishes. Their gimmick which I am not sure is a plus is to have no fixed location. They publish a list of places where the truck will be every week - generally one location for lunch and the other location for dinner. The Central Texas Truck could be anywhere from Georgetown to San Antonio. You can't just go there when you want unless you are willing to drive from Austin to San Antonio or San Antonio to Georgetown to get your lobster roll. * * * One consequence of being eternally mobile is that the truck has no regular or guaranteed access to a bathroom. You go to a brick and mortar restaurant - and the health code will require that that restaurant have a bathroom. Most food courts have some sort of bathroom - either one owned by the food court or one in a gas station or convenience store near the food court. Cousin's has nothing. So you not only have to plan ahead for when the truck is going to be within driving distance of you ... but you also have to plan to have done all of your personal business BEFORE you go to order from the truck. I do NOT consider this to be a positive feature. * * * There is also the issue of WHERE you eat your lobster preparation once you have received it. You could eat in your car. (For Samuel C that means a guaranteed necessary trip to a car wash.) There was almost no place to sit near where Cousins was located my day which was in the Yuppie complex of apartments near Oracle near Riverside. The park near where the truck was stationed has no park benches. I found ONE bench on the street mercifully provided by an apartment complex. Without that one bench I would have been scroodled. * * * I am from New England and have lots of experience with lobster. My personal opinion is that the way to eat lobster is boiled with a vast quantity of melted butter for dipping. The downside of a lobster roll is that the bread hides the taste of the lobster. This makes your investment in expensive raw materials kind of a waste. Mixing lobster with stronger tasting ingredients - which is what Cousin's does on the dump-ons - allows the stronger tasting ingredients to compensate for the diminished lobster experience. This is the way to go with Cousins. I did a Lobster On Tater Tots With Sauce concept and was not displeased. * * * Lobster should be boiled fresh from the fishing boat and eaten right on the spot. (For a related concept, see corn on the cob.) This is why people go to Maine for lobster and why clambakes with the shellfish just obtained an hour before the clambake make good sense. Shipping your lobster from Maine to Texas isn't terrible since the lobster is in water. Taking the lobster out of the shell and making raw ingredients for your lobster roll or lobster taco has started the clock ticking. As it happens ... The lobster gets old and stronger. This actually turns out to be a plus if you are dumping your lobster on tater tots. Eating old strong fish is an institution in Korean cooking. They like mackerel and other potent fish that pack a pow ... And aging the fish provides a taste Koreans really like. With lobster, aging gives you an ingredient that can stand up to being mixed with other ingredients. * * * This is all well and good. But it is not fresh lobster straight off the boat boiled and served in its natural goodness with only melted butter for a garnish. Some regional foods just don't travel.
