I was craving some Pakistani food and after eating some delicious Lahor Karahi in Manchester, UK I asked Chatgpt for a recommendation. This was the one that came up. Based on the food we ordered yesterday, I don't understand why this place is not more highly rated. We ordered, Beef samosas - since it was to go it was already soft. I think the flavor profile could have been better Mutton biryani - delicious, mughlai style Beef haleem - they ran out of goat haleem, so had to settle for this. My son was here with me on there 3 year anniversary and they gave balloons out to people but my son was waiting for quite a while. And he didn't get one. Would not go again. Solid spot. This was my first time trying Pakistani food and it was good! I went with a friend, so she made it easy to know what to try and how to eat the dishes. A very mediocre experience at this restaurant. We ordered bun kabab and beef somosas which were just mediocre 5/10 not spicy at all. We also ordered paratha and this is where it gets negative we were served something called paratha but it was actually tortilla wrap that was made on a tawa grill I complained this is not a paratha but the waitress insisted that it was a Tawa paratha I told her a paratha is made of whole-wheat atta not this. the only good was the dhood pati chai. read more

We started with their Goat Karahi, and it was perfectly cooked--tender, juicy, and full of rich, bold flavors. You can tell it's made fresh with quality ingredients. Next up was the Chicken Qorma--creamy, aromatic, and just the right amount of spice. It reminded me of family dinners back home. We also tried their Haleem, and it was comfort food at its finest. Thick, hearty, and beautifully seasoned. I'm not even a huge chai drinker, but their chai was the perfect ending. Warm, soothing, and just sweet enough. the staff is genuinely friendly and polite. After a recent trip here, we found the place remodeled and refurbished! The new tables and chairs give a welcoming feel. They even have a new dessert bar! They have delicious standards, such as chicken tikka and tikka masala, veggie samosas and briyani rice (of course, no shortage of naan bread). Zaviya Grill is awesome and one of the few places where you can get Pakistani cuisine in the greater Austin area. The issue for me was always the service and it has improved a lot from before! Our go to's are goat biryani, goat karahi, chicken qorma, & halwa puri (weekends only). One biryani order is good enough for two people. Finally, the curries include white rice on the side! Have tried one of the mixed grill platters. It was a bit dry but good overall. I've definitely had better though. Last time we tried buffet was 2019 and it was really good...the mixed vegetables and the spicy fried chicken were my favorites after the biryani. I am not sure if they still do buffet during the weekdays. They do catering with super reasonable prices. I am super thankful for Zaviya Grill. Delicious food!!! I had the Chicken Malai Boti which was the most flavorful chicken I have ever had. The garlic naan and the plain naan were so fresh and unbelievably flavorful. We also had the Chana Masala which was a bit too spicy for me but was still good. When I had a forkful of the charred onions with the Chana Masala and rice it was perfection in my mouth. So first off I'm glad to see a place for Indian food that's actually good. As far as the negative reviews that I just read. All the one and two star negative reviews that keep repeating themselves over the past 2 years are just people having a big nasty mouth with the exception of one thing. They're pan fried naan bread is a big greasy It looks like they took the regular naan and soaked it up in a big old vat of Grease. But everything else on their buffet held really well even their tandoori chicken which at most Indian places is dry. I would say don't put as much naan on the hot table for it gets hard and crispy in a short amount of time less more often is better remember that. I have told a couple of other places that have buffet as well the same and I would rather wait a minute extra to have some fresh baked naan than to get a thick hard cracker. Still the flavor profile was amazing and I will be back. Oh it is completely self-service all the way down to getting your napkins and your silverware but the bussers are real quick to make sure that you sit back at a clean table so if you don't want your napkins and utensils thrown out in the time you walk up for your second plate then make sure you set it aside from your plate otherwise they're up to take it every time. Can't blame them for keeping a clean area for you right!? And they are not scared to add the true spice of Indian cooking which a lot of Indian restaurants lack on their flavor because Americans can't handle the true spice. It's an easy option when we're looking for Pakistani food, and have a specific hankering for nihari and biryani. This place is usually comprehensively good, but occasionally seem very disorderly across many areas simultaneously, ie: floor is slippery and oily, biryani is plain, and grilled chicken is burnt. I just find it interesting that this place (although usually exceptionally good) has bad days where many things are problematic all at once. read more

I stopped by for the first time yesterday after reading recent promising reviews. It was early (10:50a) as I ventured over from an appointment next door. Their open sign was flashing and the front door was open, so I walked in. The place was understandably empty due to the time of day but the workers were busy packing to go orders. Good for them! A lady worker/manager at the back order desk approached the register where I was standing with a mouthful of food chomping away openly and made near zero eye contact, and when she asked what I wanted and I said a Togo order, she shooed me away literally waving her arm in the air to come back after 1p. I would've waited an additional 10 -15 minutes if it was just an opening hours issue but her demeanor was awful. Bad day? Maybe. But I will not be back. read more

Goat biryani, malai chicken, butter chicken, bihari kabab, chicken tikka leg quarter, beef Sikh kabab roll are some of the great items they serve. The biggest thing I miss about Houston is the food. After we moved away, I have been having a hard time trying to find a decent place that is actually authentic and spicy. This place is everything that I have been missing and more. The owners are super nice. The food is amazing. I even got to try some dishes I hadn't had before. Their Tandoori grilled chicken combo was tender, juicy and flavorful. The garlic naan was fluffy and almost melted in my mouth. I highly recommend the chicken karahi. When they say it's a spicy dish, they mean it. Unfortunately, a lot of places have toned down their flavor to accommodate taste buds here in Austin. This place doesn't compromise their traditional flavor and quality.
