Ordered the chicken curry with garlic naan and vegetable samosas. Overall I would say the food was so-so. The chicken curry tasted more like butter chicken in my opinion, but was filled with large pieces of meat with perfectly fluffy basmati rice on the side. The garlic naan was pretty disappointing as it hardly had a garlicky flavor and was fairly stale tasting (or at least definitely not fresh). The veggie samosas weren't as crispy as I like but the chutney they came with a good pairing. Overall the food and the prices were pretty typical but nothing that would set this place apart from other outstanding Indian restaurants I've visited in Austin and elsewhere. read more

The biryani was horrible! Not edible at all! We couldn't eat it! The samosas were good but the chef didn't fry it right. So too oily! The noodles were basic! Location is great but the place is basic! Nothing fancy about the restaurant! Service is basic as they have no reserves! The cashier does the service and helps in kitchen! So it's hard to catch his eyes! This is our 3rd visit here. Each time has been a wildly different experience. Food ranges from avg to pretty good. Service is always crap. Won't be coming back anymore, but this visit was the first time I've hesitated when considering the tip. The server then stopped me and requested I give my tip as cash. I thought this was a bit presumptuous, why would crap service be entitled to a tip? I only had a few bucks on me, but gladly gave it to him since that's what he wanted. Been wanting to try this place because I always pass by it and the food definitely hit the spot. I ordered their Garlic Naan, Masala Fries, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Boti, Mutton Biryani, and Kheer for dessert. My favorite dish here was definitely their Chicken Boti! (Would definitely recommend it). Although I ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala but they actually made a mistake and ended up serving me Butter Chicken. Although they gave us the wrong dish, the Butter Chicken was still pretty solid (Would probably come back and try their Chicken Tikka Masala again. If you live nearby or are just craving some good food I would recommend coming here! The service was also really nice and the owners checked in on our group a couple of times throughout the meal. Dropped by here when we were craving some Indian food and it was a good choice! We got the kebab platter (the chicken leg was perfection and I'm someone who usually doesn't like them!), mutton biryani (they were generous with the mutton), tava chicken (first time trying it and was different and amazing, roasted bell pepper flavor with chicken) garlic naan and plain naan (that could have used a slab of butter). I heard the food at Mirchi's is good but I will never know. I took my daughter out for lunch and we arrived around 11:30am. We were not met as we walked in so we walked up to the main counter. We could see 10-12 employees working through the large glass window that separates the kitchen from the dining area. We stood there waiting for 5 plus minutes. We were never acknowledged. We then left the restaurant. With lack of service like this there is absolutely no reason for us to return. There are too many excellent restaurants in the Cedar Park area that appreciate customers coming into their businesses to waste my time on this business. read more

I can't believe I put off going here for so long. It's been on my radar for three months. The menu looked interesting but many items I was unfamiliar with so scaredy cat me didn't go. This week I got brave and went. So glad I did. It's located in a very small strip mall. If you blink, you missed it. I walked in and it was void of other customers (That didn't bother me as I go at weird times.) The man behind the counter brought me to a booth and left me with a menu. A girl showed up a minute later with a glass and carafe of cold water. The man appeared five minutes later with a plate of sliced carrots and cucumbers with seasoning on top. Nice touch. Decided to order the Chicken Goti from the grill section along with a samosa and garlic naan. While waiting for my food I looked around. This is a no frills restaurant. I saw one man through the open window into the kitchen cooking away. There was another gentleman in the back corner booth on his phone the entire time. Later an older gentleman came in who I'm guessing is the owner and father for everyone in there. A family run place. My samosa arrives and it was hot. I cut it in half to let the steam escape. I couldn't wait anymore so I took my first bite. Still hot in both temperature and spice. Second bite was dipped in the tamarind sauce to cool it down. It was so good. I alternated between the sliced vegetables and the hot samosa. The chicken Goti was presented on a sizzling iron skillet. The aroma was intoxicating. Soon after the garlic naan was served. I broke my chicken into small pieces as the cubes were an inch big. The first taste was satisfying, spicy but not overwhelming hot, moist and tender. It was served with an avocado? yogurt sauce. I tried eating it plain and with the different sauces, all good. The naan was huge. Normally I get half the amount. Took half home and it reheated nicely. Great service, friendly people, reasonable pricing, and terrific food. Use your GPS and find this place. read more

Mirchi is a Pakistani Halal restaurant. It is right next to Ismaili Jamatkhana, one of the largest Pakistani mosques in the Austin area. (Okay, not 100% Pakistani, but heavily Pakistani). I assumed with this kind of knowledgeable customer base that Mirchi Masala would be pretty good. Mirchi Masala is pretty good. * * * Superficially, this looks just like an "Indian" restaurant. But there are important differences - all of which lead to better quality. a) This is a carnivore paradise. They have vegetarian dishes but those are stuck on the back page of the menu for customers who absolutely insist on vegetables. Meat is what they do here. b) They do meat because their meat is better than what you get at typical Indian restaurant. Never mind the spiritual or theological reasons for eating halal. Halal meat in Texas is absolutely excellent meat. Nothing comes from a factory chicken or a factory cow. Your meat comes from a small artisanal butcher using a very reliable local provider. I had chicken and I had goat brain. The chicken had far more chicken taste than does the stewed to death factory chicken you get at a standard Anglo-American curry palace. Goat brain is by its nature, mild, suave and creamy. It is comfort food. Mine was absolutely lovely and absolutely comforting. c) Samuel C's Law 608 - which can be found in other reviews I have written. Restaurants that serve all parts of the animal, tend to be good on everything - with or without the exotic ingredients. Samuel C's Law 608A which appears for the first time here. Places that serve goat also tend to be good at everything. There is a lot of goat on the menu. Law 608 and 608A applies perfectly well to Mirchi. Yeah, the vegetables are ho hum. But meat is over 90 percent of the menu. The meat dishes are first rate. d) Mirchi is unapologetic about firey heat. Their fire is an excellent fire. Order rice or bread if you want to put the fire out. But why do you want to put the fire out? e) Their breads are absolutely excellent. The butter naan is a complete winner. You know when you go to an upscale restaurant and they put out a totally tempting bread basket with lovely fresh iced butter? You know how you can't stop eating out of the bread basket? The butter naan is at that level of irresistibility. And never mind iced butter. The butter naan is nice and roasty-toasty-warm to boot. The garlic naan does not fool around in its use of garlic. This totally beats the wimpy garlic naan you get at more Americanized places. f) Mirchi essentially serves one flavor of curry at one level of heat and merely changes the meat and side ingredients that go into that curry. The last sentence is not strictly 100% true. There are some subtle differences between dishes. But it is not far off the truth. That said - the basic house curry that will receive your chicken or your goat or your beef is quite fine indeed. So you are here to get the house curry. You get choices as what gets put into your house curry. I like the house curry a lot, so this is no problem for me. * * * Overall, this is a quite superior establishment. Eat meat and thrive! Just "no". It's one thing to be bad but it's another to hear clear feedback from your customers and do nothing about it. First the sign on the outside says "Buffet" - they don't do buffet now and they don't care enough to update their sign. Secondly, we ordered very easy and standard dishes - Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala (extra hot). The butter chicken was just tasteless - and the Tikka was weak flavored and had ZERO spice. We asked the server could have some chilis and/or hot sauce. He said yes but never brought any. My partner was very hungry so she ended up finishing her dish. Mine wasn't worth eating although I did think about taking it home to try to "fix" the flavors. I had a lot going on that day so I decided not to go down that route. No bill was brought to us and we were short on time so I walked up to the register. I informed the server that my dish was tasteless and that I wouldn't be eating it. I also expressed my frustration that my partner didn't receive her dish as ordered, nor was any of the offered hot sauce delivered. He responded with some weak response in the range of "I am the only one if front and that he had passed on the request to the cook. He also said that different restaurants had different flavors. I have probably had both dishes at more than 50 Indian spots and this was the first time it was just plain bad. It reminded me of heating up frozen food where the picture on the package looks good and then the actual dish is so disappointing. We were charged full price for both dishes. So do come here if you want less-than-frozen-food quality. Or if you want Garlic Naan bread - for some strange reason their Garlic Naan was an easy 5 on the delicious scale. Warning ahead of time, the description of the chicken karahi dish didn't mention it having bone in through GrubHub (no description really) so I was met with a little surprise when I bit into a chunk of chicken. The flavors were wonderful and aromatic though, a great spice level for me and I enjoyed the veggie samosa that came with it! The chicken karahi was just slightly too oily but all the flavors they packed into it were delicious. Ate here pretty regularly bc it's the only place around here for beef samosas, haleem, and different kebabs but the whole menu has changed! No beef on the menu any more. When you're in the mood for amazing Indian food, you want amazing. Mirchi didn't disappoint. We stopped in for a Friday date night. We were greeted, seated and brought some tasty appetizers including cucumbers, carrots, and homemade crackers. We decided to get another appetizer, the samosa chaat. This is one of my favorite appetizers because there are so many different flavors and textures. It's vegetarian too. I ordered the paneer tikka masala and my husband got butter chicken. We had a side of garlic naan too. All of the flavors in my tikka masala perfectly complimented one another. I didn't get spicy. It had a little bit of heat, just the right amount. It went great with the garlic naan or rice. Like I said, it did not disappoint. I was happy to have enough left over to bring home. There's nothing better than Indian left overs. Seriously. It's just as good, if not better, the 2nd time around. We will definitely be back for more. Maybe next time I'll try something I've never had before. There's plenty of options to choose. read more
