Corn Soup
Eric H.

Suprabhat was one of the first Indian restaurants I ate at after moving to Austin. You won't find a speck of meat on their menu, but you will find cheese. In terms of spice, I've noticed their spice levels fluctuate. So the spiciness of a dish is not necessarily consistent across different days. For those who like spicy food, the fluctuations don't really matter, as the majority of the time, the spice builds as long as you keep eating. For those unaccustomed, a good plan would be to pace yourself. For myself, if the initial hit of spiciness exceeds a certain threshold, I'll have a hiccup reaction. Rarely do I hiccup when eating here, but sometimes it does happen. The first time I ate there I had opted for one of their thalis, which are quite filling. On subsequent visits and takeout, I had various curries, dosa, chaats, and more. They've got a wide menu, notably an immense dosa section, with many filling options. If I don't want to be stuffed, I'll order a dosa. Dosas come with three chutneys, their pickle of the day, and sambar. The dosas themselves have a diverse filling selection. Likewise, the presentation of dosas have varied shapes. You'll see semi-circles, quarter circles, large tubes, triangles, and even cut up dosas, depending on what you order and who's the dosa master. I'm partial to Masala, Mysore Masala, and Mysore Cheese, though I've also had the Chettinad Pattani (spiced green pea smashed inside). They can also make really thin (Paper Dosa) or quite large (70mm Dosa). For chaat, I tend to get Samosa Chaat or Papdi Chaat. Because the combo of chickpeas, various chutneys, crispy fried bits, and yogurt is always glorious. Their Chole Bhatura comes with chana masala, onions, lemon, pickles, and one puffy fried bread ball. Their bread ball is partially chewy, partially crispy, and 100% greasy if you tear it with your hands. But it's a reasonably satisfying rendition. I actually like their fried stuffed baby eggplants quite a bit. They are partially quartered and stuffed with nuts, spices, and tamarind in their Gutti Vankaya Dum Biriyani, but the non-stuffed versions are also creamy and delicious in their Bagara Baingan curry. They badam milk comes out as a hot drink in a metal cup, making it sort of awkward to drink. I wait for it to cool slightly. Almonds, cardamom, and milk--what more can you ask for? Maybe lactose free milk, I suppose. Their steamed rice noodle dish, which is surprisingly simple, is surprisingly delicious. We tried the Idiyappam with coconut milk; it comes with sambar and pickles. Rice noodles and coconut milk simply work together. Plenty of accommodations can be made for gluten-free and vegan. Their last menu page explains what adjustments, if any, can be made. As for seating, it looks like the second large room in their restaurant has use now; with a large mural on the wall. Large groups will still sit primarily in the main dining room. Payment is still executed at the register at the front, whether you are dining in or picking up, though you can place your order on Toast Tab.

Suprabhat North Indian Thali - Poori
Kurangi D.

I am so surprised this place has such low rating. It's our regular place , and we most often have North Indian or South Indian thali here. I absolutely love the taste of all the food. The thing i love the most about this place's food is unlike most of the Indian restaurant , they seem to not add food color in food , which is pretty big deal breaker for me. Their service is wonderful too. Very friendly staff.

My family and I have been here a few times and always had a good experience. Service is very fast too. Their food is all vegetarian and delicious! Very flavorful and not overly spicy. We've tried the South Indian thali, North Indian thali and special Thali (which is like a hybrid of the south and north types) - all have been great! Thalis are platters with either a rice/chapati (tortilla) base and an assortment of veggie curries plus yogurt, papadum (crispy fried thin sheet), and a dessert. They also provide 2 free refills of whichever curry you enjoy the most. Their food is very reminiscent of authentic Indian food and makes me nostalgic in a good way. We will definitely be back!

Dakshin Thali (South Indian) Chapati + Masala Dosa + Garlic Naan + Vegetable Samosa

Very lovely vegetarian based Indian food and dishes in a clean, well lit environment. Service was very good, no frills but we were seated in a small booth, and the menu and specials were shared with us promptly. We ordered the thali, dosa and a few appetizers which all came out quickly. I loved the assortment of my thali, South Indian dishes, which all were very flavorful and spicy :) It's the perfect pick for a gal like me who is very food indecisive lol. My husband's dosa was a safe pick for him on his low spice tolerance and the dipping sauces accompanied were all very well balanced too! Great find off of parmer, reasonable prices and swift to get food into you, what's not to love about Suprabhat? Will be back!!

Bhatura

One of few pure vegetarian restaurants in the city but probably the only vegetarian restaurant to be running since 10 years. Great service and hospitality and even better food. Loved the chhole bhature here. One HUGE bhatura is served and it feels equal to three. Love the sambhar and chutneys served with dosa/idli/uttapam. Must try their walnut halwa. This place is perfect for catering as well. And they do live dosa counters for catering too. Definitely try their walnut halwa. They serve jain and vegan food too.

Dakshin Thali (South Indian) Chapati

My first time trying this place and I will definitely be back. They were very accommodating for our large party. The menu is extensive, with multiple pages of curries, noodles, dosas, etc. I wanted to taste so many things, so I figured trying the Thali would make the most sense. I picked the southern Indian one and enjoyed everything on the tray. I recommend doing the same if you want to taste of multiple dishes. And beware, it was a huge amount of food! I certainly enjoyed the leftovers for lunch the next day. I appreciate that although it's an all vegetarian restaurant, the menu specifies what can be made vegan.

Uttar Thali (North Indian) Poories

I have come to Suprabhat a few times and I think they do Notth Indian and Indo Chinese dishes really well. I had the Malai Kofta and Garlic Naan and they were good but the Gobi Manchurian was the best. It was so crispy and spicy and saucy, I loved it. The service is always great and the ambiance is nice. It's nice to have a veg restaurant in Austin that gives so many different options.

Paneer Butter Masala
Jessica N.

I love this place! They have the best butter masala in Austin. Anytime my sister in law visits we always pick up an order, but this day we decided to dine in. Our food was hot and fresh and oh so flavorful. There is lots to choose from but I also go back to the butter masala and garlic nan. It's a must try if you're in north Austin.

Went to Suprabhat on a weekend with my party of 7 adults and 2 kids. We got a table in a cute hut like structure in the restaurant. The restaurant looked packed, but we got a table almost quickly. My toddler had the kids noodles which was amazing and the portion was very large. My husband and I had the sev Puri which was good and the pav bhaji dosa which barely had any filling. Was disappointed by the dosa. The food had by the rest of the party was good. Overall, it was a good experience.

Bisibelebath
Neha G.

Best bisibele bath I have had in Austin, quantity is good for 2 people. Their aloo parantha is really good too. Have tried their dosa and Thali as well. Good indoor setup with shacks type seating. Not sure but I guess the business is run by a family.

Zermin A.

One star less because they have a Yelp deal that we get a drink with thali order and the restaurant said it didn't honor it as they aren't running promotion for it anymore. If that's the case then why have they not removed it and for courtesy they should have. Food is excellent! Definitely the best South Indian food I have ever had! The chaats were mind boggling! So good and fresh! The chaat puri was crisp and fresh, I loved both the pani puri and sev puri we ordered! The thali was fabulous! We order the special one which is a combination thali and it was HUGE! The roti in it was fantastic! Both the dosas we order was great and so were the chutneys! It's a cute little place! Clean and has an authentic feel to it! Definitely will be back!

Kids Dosa
Nidhi T.

The food was fine. We had ordered a kids dosa, an onion rava masala dosa, an idli rasam and vada sambhar. I found the sambhar very under seasoned. But the rest tasted fine. The staff was trying their best to be attentive, even asking us if the music volume was ok. That's a first! We did have to remind them about our coffee a couple times though!

Dakshin Thali (South Indian) with puri
Nihilaa K.

Came to this place after many years since we did not like the food back in 2020. Looks like they completely revamped the menu and food and we were surprised how good and homely the food tasted! Ambiance did not change much but felt more welcoming . Service was quick and good . We ordered the South Indian (Dakshin) thali and plain Pesarattu. Pesarattu was good overall and chutneys and sambar tasted home made . The Thai was amazing, especially sambar and the sweet . Every dish in the thali tasted really nice . Very satisfying Indian meals, will definitely come back for the Thali.

I tried the Ulavacharu soup--absolutely delicious. It's main ingredient is horse gram, which apparently is in the legume family. It wasn't like any soup I've had before, so description is a bit tough. It was fairly spicy to start with, but less so as I kept eating it. The only things I could identify was ground up horse gram, some sweet onions, and some thinly shaved ginger, but it had a lot of complexity. Highly recommend that and the rose milk (especially if you need some relief from the spiciness when you start out.) I had a little bit of my friend's butter chicken sauce, and that was excellent too. More heavily tomato-based than I'm used to, but a lot of depth of flavor. I'd happily order that in the future. I can't wait to come back and try their buffet when my diet restrictions are over :) Service was great. I asked if a few of the menu items have coconut in them since I'm allergic, and our server double checked with the kitchen for me and was very nice about it. Really pretty dining room as well. The location isn't as central as I'd like, but that does make it easy to find parking in the lot. Definitely recommend!
