Dosa Shack is a food truck. Bright and colorful!
    Laura D.

First and foremost we didn't choose our items -- grabbed it through a TooGoodToGo offer on a whim. Greeted with friendly faces and fast service -- and piping hot food. We received spiced paneer dosas, chips, and a slew of dips. We don't know what everything was but it was all delicious. All for $5 from TooGoodToGo. This food truck park is difficult to get in and out of if you don't know where you're going, and it's VERY dark at night. However, after some exploring, we realized we can get in and out of this location without using the 183 frontage road -- there's access from Lake Creek Pkwy -- so that will be what we do on future visits for safety and ease. I don't know what it's like during the day, but at night it is very dark and sketchy... highly recommend coming with friends. There's a quite well lit seating area/dining area, however, and it's decorated with bright colors and positioned in the middle of the area, with about 6 food trucks all around. However, only 2 of the trucks were open/serving when we were there. 10/10 -- will come back to order full price items, most likely during the day! Absolutely delicious.

I was craving paneer, so when I saw pictures of the paneer skewers and the paneer spinach melt sandwich, I just needed to try them. We ordered the Paneer Tikka, Vada Pav, Fried Idli, and the Paneer Spinach Melt. Warning: The Paneer Tikka is spicy due to the jalapeños, but it's really yummy with the sauce! I would recommend it for those who enjoy spice. The Paneer Spinach Melt was indescribably delicious. It's obviously not the healthiest in terms of fat content, but the flavors were wonderful. The sandwich had a great cheese pull, and the chutney added the perfect touch to this buttery melt. This is one of my favorites now! The fried idlis are a MUST! I've had these and my family makes them, but the seasoning on the idlis with the flavor of the dipping sauce is simply perfection. Their mango lassi was not overly sweet and just right. Next time, I want to try the Doffles! I've never had those. The food was yummy, but did take a while to come out. This food truck is inside a food truck park, so there was some seating and one fan.

Dosa shack was on my list to try for some time. I must say I was not disappointed. We tried paneer dosa, plain dosa, paneer tikka and panipuri. Everything was very tasty. Dosas were crispy and chutneys were yum. But you have to love spicy food if you wanna try this place. They chutneys were spicy but very tasty. I definitely recommend.

I got the Veggie Uttapam and was disappointed that it was 90% onion and a tiny bit of raw broccoli. It wasn't cooked all the way so the broccoli was still raw. :( It came with a small lentil soup that was so hot that it worries me about the plastic chemicals melting into the soup. The Veggie Uttapam was too spicy for me and too dry - the overload of lentil powder did not help. Mango lassi was fine, nothing special. There are bathrooms 2 down from the Sushi truck - ramp leads to a white door labeled Restrooms. There are picnic tables around to sit down at.

Dosa shack is a vegetarian South Indian food truck taking their grandma's dosa recipe and inventing creative specials! (Dosa's are savory crepes) We loved the classic dosa (potato, onion, curry leaf) and peppy paneer dosa (paneer, pickled onion, herb yogurt). The dosa itself was perfection, fresh & crispy, and both fillings were so flavorful! My favorite is the peppy paneer :) The sauces that accompany the dosas are a fantastic complement. I love the spin on the traditional dipping sauces and sambal. The red sauce (a ginger chutney) has a little kick which I loved! We also tried this month's January specials, both are uttapams (a fluffy, savory pancake). The uttapam sandwich is stuffed with a pav bhaji-like potato patty. I found the sandwich quite heavy but tasty! My favorite was the crispy avocado uttapam. This is eaten like a taco and stuffed with fried avocado and a delicious slaw. Have to try! Last but not least, the mango lassi. This is a thick drink made with yogurt and mango, slightly sweet and very refreshing. A great choice to accompany your meal! This is definitely a spot I'd come back to. Delicious dosas and specials every month! Hope they keep the crispy avocado uttapam on the permanent menu though :)

I like dosas so why not try it stuffed with some yummy flavor combinations! Who can say no to cheese?! From their colorful food truck, inviting website to excellent customer service it was definitely a pleasant experience. I ordered the Classic dosa, jalapeño cheese dosa and the Bombay grilled cheese. They gave us a buzzer and estimate time it will be ready. They have tables set up next to the truck and they are fancy!!!! They had a mister!!! In this Texas heat you need that mist to cool you off. I picked up the goods and I enjoyed EVERYTHING! I am amazed how they got the filling in the dosa where it didn't alter the texture of it. It wasn't soggy from the cheese or fillings. The cheese jalapeño and classic dosa has great flavors. The dark red/maroon sauce was the star of the show. Yum! I love spicy foods so it was the highlight for me. Very spicy and good. The Bombay grilled cheese was excellent . It had superb flavor and I like the fresh tomato. The soup that came with it was delicious. I dipped my dosa in it too :). Go check them out in the food trailer park off Burnet road.

A friend recommended this place so we went although this was a little out of the way. The food is ok at best. The dosa is nothing to write home about, the stuffing is decent but the quantity of the food for the price is very little and the accompaniments like Sambhar is way too little for the dosa. The chutney was ok though. It does not stop at the dos though. We also got the Bombay sandwich and I promise I can make a better sandwich without putting much effort into it. The only thing nice was the wada pav and I couldn't get myself to call it great although I tried. Not going back.

I can tell the owner really cares about his food. The quality is high. I have had better dipping sauce and dosa fillings before, but the dosa dough/batter from this place is the best I have ever had. That being said, their fillings and curry sauce are great too, but the dough is just outstanding I got jackfruit dosa and patty paneer dosa. They all look the same from the outside so I only took 1 photo. Both flavors are great. I'll come back for sure.

The menu includes dosas of course but they also have few chaat items and grilled sandwiches. They also offered mini samosas and kaju katli sweets as part of the one year anniversary celebration. We ordered a jack fruit and peppy paneer filling dosa. The lady outside informed us that there would be a45 minute wait which was also expected since it was Friday evening. The owners were very polite throughout and thanked us for our patience. Our order came within 20 minutes though and dosas were quite tasty. There was ample filling in the dosas with the right combination of spices. All dosas are pink which is not customary. The pink color comes from beetroot added to the batter and is a dedication to mothers and grandmothers in India. A wonderful thought and gesture.

If you're looking for high quality South Indian food with the sweetest owners and incredible taste, then check out the Dosa Shack. They're posted up at 5000 Burnet with a bunch of other food trucks and I'd argue that their menu is the most solid food truck menu. Everything is superb, and I've had most of the menu. They have a really nice setup with plenty of seats by the truck to enjoy your meal. Start off with a mango lassi, samosa nachos and definitely order a classic dosa if you haven't had one before. If you have, then I recommend the SPC^2 dosa. Also, if visiting on the weekend and you see a special called Cheese Burst Vada Pav, order it! Finish off your meal with a rose caramel doffle and thank me later!

    Dolly N.

Admittedly I don't know much about dosas, but I thought they were pretty good! The crepe part was crispy and the filling was flavorful. I got the classic dosa which is a potato, onion, curry leaf filling which I think is a good starting point for anyone to try. It's not a spicy filling but it is delicious. My sister got the devil veggie which was recommended as a backup option as the other spicy option she was looking for was sold out. The dosas come with 2 chutneys and a lentil soup. The "spicier" chutney wasn't too bad and leans more into the sweeter side for me...but may actually be spicy for some. The green chutney wasn't spicy but was my favorite flavor combo. The paneer tikka was delicious but those jalapeños were spicy! And I'd like to think my spice tolerance is pretty high so you've been warned. The portion was a bit small but honestly, the sticks were so tasty I couldn't complain.

Been here a few times, and food has been great every time. Paneer and the spinach dosa is what I usually get. Took one star down since the wait can sometimes take 20-30 mins. Even with only 2-3 people in before you.

Original Dosa $11 - basically nothing inside this
    Bill M.

Tried this food truck a while back and ordered an original dosa. I have never had one, but this seemed like a rip off, $11 for basically nothing. It was like a crispy crepe with some spices smeared inside and a couple of sauces and a 4oz soup. Not for me.

When you walk into the restaurant you are met with this warm and welcoming spirit. You literally feel like you are transported to a tropical rain forest - so much greenery and blossomed laden tree. Zuni, my server, led me to a table with a window view. Initially, she recommended the traditional Ethiopian meal (Doro Wot - National food of Ethiopia - slow cooked chicken leg stew with onions, berber, spices and clarified butter and boiled egg.) I thought that sounded good. The owner Mahelet greeted me so sweetly and warmly to welcomed me to the restaurant (she had greeting like an aunt or grandmother). She recommended a sampler plate of lamb (one of my favs), chicken and beef (not a huge beef eater). This meal reminded me of Nigerian meals where you eat with your hands. Injera means bread. However, don't think of traditional sourdough or wheat bread. Injera has a unique texture - how to describe it - it's very porous with a spongy feel, soft with mellow taste (super unique.) It was served as a plate charger with stews placed on top of it and a side order of injera was also served. I absolutely loved it!!! It was like nothing I have ever eaten before. For those that may not know, Injera is traditionally made from teff flour, an ancient, naturally gluten‑free grain native to Ethiopia (contains probiotics), mixed with water and fermented for several days. This fermentation gives injera its flavor and airy texture. Mahelet said the "Beyond" in their restaurant's name stood for unity, togetherness and beyond the bread. Did you know chicken was the national meat of Ethiopia? I did not either until today. All the meats were tender, which is kind of unusual since beef can me on the rubbery side sometimes. All the meats were fork cutting tender. The food was the standout. The stewed meats were served family-style on traditional injera, the spongy, tangy flatbread. The flavors were rich and well-spiced. The stews were hearty, aromatic, and appeared to be made with love. Portions are generous, enough for 2+ people, making it easy to share and sample a variety of dishes at one time. Excellent food...great learnings...new dining experiences!!!

Then, to get drinks or even the order was a problem. It took so much longer than usual. Our waitress was rude, and seemed bothered that we showed up. Then someone else came as the waitress and she was preoccupied with other tables and barely checked on us. A regular lunch which would've been one hour became almost two because of the lack of service. My friend had to stand and look for someone to give us a box to take out the good we couldn't eat because it was getting late and also to get the check because No one came in to check on us at all. We had four pots of tea: Classic English Breakfast, Earl Gray, Peach White, and Coconut Oolong. It goes without saying that the English Brekkie and Earl Gray were perfectly brewed and delicious. The Peach White and Coconut Oolong were also perfectly brewed. The Peach White was fragrant and flavorful. Same for the Coconut Oolong though it was more fragrant with a less robust flavor.
