Stumbled upon this place by a chance. Turned to be not a bad choice. Service was fast, the owner was very friendly, prepared food himself. We ordered the kofta burger and shawarma. My son absolutely loved his burger. Good size, meet was just right. Shawarma was different from what I know shawarmas to be :) This was a texas version, wrapped in a tortilla wrap, not in pita. Nevertheless, it was tasty. As a side, we asked for the sweet potato fries, it was also very good. When leaving, I casually mentioned that I am yet to find a good falafel in Austin (after living in NYC and in Israel, I have high expectations). The owner asked me to wait few minutes, prepared fresh falafel for me and my son to try. It was very good. (He refused to take money for it). Stopped by Falafel Burger after being curious about the restaurant for months (it's an old Sonic). The concept is pretty unique for a middle eastern sandwich/wrap place- being an old Sonic, you can either park in one of the stalls and scan a QR code to order (this option didn't work for me, so I ordered at the front), or another option is going through the actual drive thru. The owner was super friendly and had great customer service. I ordered both the beef and chicken shawarmas, and both were excellent. The pita used was very fresh and soft and tasted unlike the dry ones usually used at other shawarma places. All the flavors were on point and the portion sizes great. While the kafta cheeseburger was decent with a good special sauce and nice herbs it Overshadowed the rest of the burger. The fries were a bit dry in flavor. Service was also a bit rude and the website had an incorrect image. Also one of the employees was smoking close to where people ate. lol if this gets taken down by them paying to remove it. Every time I've seen this place, I kept thinking to myself that "oh I'll go next time" or "I'll definitely go soon but not right now". If anything like this has ever applied to you, just go somewhere and try it. In my case, I can honestly say that I wish I had gone sooner. But my wife and I saw this place being mentioned on TikTok, and we finally ended up going. The person in the review mentioned getting the grouper wrap and or the falafel wrap. So that's what my wife and I did. She got the falafel and I got the grouper. We both loved it so much. For the grouper, it had a really great taste for the fish and came with a great spicy sauce inside the wrap as well! For my wife, her falafel wrap was incredibly tasty and she loved the french fries on the side. Each combo comes with fries, even though our wrap already had fries inside it, and I ended up getting Cajun fries. And let me tell you those were great too! We couldn't sit outside at the time since it was freezing, but going through the drive thru and we got the food pretty fast considering our order. I can already seeing myself going again, and I literally said so once we were done eating. If you were ever hesitant on going, please go. We were visiting Austin and did a takeout and every item was exceptional. The Falafels were exceptional (one of the best we've ever had!). The baba ganoush, spicy hummus and all the salads were full of flavor too! The portion sizes were generous. Yummy! My husband and I live right down the road from this place. It's been open for a while now and we kept telling ourselves we were gonna try it, but never did. Until now. And I'm glad we did! The guy who works there and took our order was nice. It was really cold and he told us to get back in our car instead waiting in the cold and then come around to the drive through and he'd give us our food there. Husband got a grouper wrap and I got the falafel wrap. Both got combos which came with fries and a drink. The prices are solid! The food was delicious and the portions are HUGE. Amazing!! We just finished up a late baseball game and even though they were about to close they were so kind and accommodating and was happy to take our order. We got the Beef shawarma, falafel wrap, chicken shawarma, spicy hummus, pistachio baklava, and walnut baklava.... Every single dish was incredible! We are very familiar with shawarma and very critical and picky- this was so fresh, even at 10pm, the ingredients were fresh and exploding with flavor! The location looks like an old sonic drive thru that is converted but the kitchen is well lit and visible to all, clean and bright and the staff was so gracious and gave five star service. We had the food in our hands so quickly and couldn't wait to devour it based on the aromatic smells taunting us on our drive back to the hotel. Wanted to try something near by that was different and discovered this wonderful hidden gem! Upon arrival, you park in one of the spots like Sonic and scan the QR to order in your phone, then simply pick it up at their window. In our case, they handled our food/drinks with SOO much care and brought it out to us. We decided to get out of the car and just eat at the outdoor seating (everything was well maintained/cleaned) under shaded area. I ordered Kofta Cheeseburger Combo with raspberry tea and their Zaatar fries. Everything was hot and freshly made-to-order by their very friendly staff! Never been to this place, so they were kind to offer for me to try their falafel. I usually am one to hold off on falafel, since I am picky on the taste of it usually being too herbal for myself. Once I took a bite of their falafel, then I was very impressed!! Crispy, not dry, freshly made, and delicious! The Zaatar fries are like seasoned fries and they were good especially with the special sauce. My raspberry tea was a bit sweet for myself, but it was still pretty good. At first I was sad that my picture had such poor lighting, but after eating the food I'm much more content with using it because it encapsulates my sadness upon finishing my meal. We ordered the falafel cheeseburger and zataar fries separately (upon looking at the menu while writing this review I realized they had a combo option which would have been nice to know). All of this would have been forgiven if the food was good, which I was really excited for and expecting with such a high rating, but the food ended up being frustratingly mediocre. There were hints of adequacy though, the fries looked seasoned, the falafel pattie tasted fine, and the overall sensation of biting into the burger was ultimately pretty satisfying. For the cons though, while the fries looked seasoned, they lacked any texture and were extremely dry, the sauce on the burger just wasn't pleasant in the slightest (wasn't noticable while eating the burger, but I ate some that fell out of the burger and it almost made me gag), and the burger just didn't have any meaningful taste. It's one of the few times I've forced myself to finish a meal, and even then I ended up taking the fries home. Really hope this was just a one off bad showing for this place but judging from the fact there was only 1 person working the entire kitchen and not a single soul when we arrived at 6pm on a Saturday, I feel like the rating hasn't caught up with their decline in quality. read more

Delicious Middle Eastern-inspired burgers, sandwiches and wraps. Chicken Shawarma wraps are my wife's go to and they are among the best in the city. My personal favorite is the Kofta burger. Delicious flavorful beef patty that is a nice mix of an American hamburger and Middle Eastern Kofta. I always include the Zaatar fries with every order with the special sauce. I've eaten at falafel Burger probably 5 to 6 times and it's excellent l. I understand why it might take a little bit longer for orders because they make everything from scratch and made to order. The food is superb. I love the perhaps former sonic restaurant, where you pull up and it's like you are getting served in the 1950s. Not that they wait on you from your car, but while you're waiting for your food, the proprietor, Abdul, has more than once brought me out freshly fried falafel with a nice dollop of hummus on it as a complementary treat while I wait on my main order. It's a stroke of genius. The falafel is absolutely delicious and right out of the fryer. I also am impressed by the fact that Abdul is running this place entirely by himself and is handling all of the throughput. I lived in the Middle East for several years and I have to say for Austin Texas this is quite a treat. I hope this business grows and they can sustain vertical rotisserie of Shawarma.
