Overall it was pretty delicious and authentic! Also, huge portions of food! Ordering it to go was a good choice because we took the leftovers home. The lady that runs the truck is super friendly and engaging with her customers! I'd definitely recommend this food truck for a nice Thai fried dishes that are full of flavor and have generous portions.

They said it would be about 20 minutes for food since they were slammed, but I appreciate knowing it was made to order, so no problems there. Tried the Kaeng Panaeng and it was good overall. Huge portion size but wasn't quite what I was expecting. Salad was pretty standard but I'm glad they kept it separate so it wouldn't wilt from the heat. As for the chicken, I was hoping by itself it would be more thai inspired/marinated/seasoned but it's effectively just chopped up chicken tenders to be dunked in the curry. The curry is flavorful, albeit a bit watery, which I wish was reduced a bit. But if curry is not your thing, my friend's Kai Zabb was very good: tangy, sweet and heat all at once, so good to really switch up bites. And while I wasn't expecting sticky rice, I can't help but say it's the first time I've had thai fried chicken without it. All in all, I think its a great new place to try out, but if you've had thai fried chicken before, just temper your expectations.

Such a cool area to eat! It was much cooler under this covered area (which is also under some tree coverage).

The second you take that first bite, you already know you made the right call pulling up. The jerk is absolutely unreal. It's perfectly seasoned, smoky, and has just the right amount of kick. It doesn't overpower anything, it just hits exactly how it's supposed to. And being able to build your own bowl is a game changer. Rice, mac and cheese, mix and match whatever you're in the mood for, they've got it. That mac and cheese deserves its own moment too because it's creamy, rich, and honestly addictive. And the beef patties... yeah, good luck eating just one. Flaky, packed with flavor, and gone before you even realize it. Everything about this spot just works. The flavor, the portions, the whole vibe. You can tell this food is made with care, not just thrown together. Don't walk, run to Mr. Pimento. You're seriously missing out if you don't.

I am always on the quest for good plantains and decided to give Mr. Pimento a try. When I think of pimento I think of a sweet pepper that is mixed with cheese to create pimento cheese. Actually, pimento also known as allspice is the dried berry of the Pimenta dioica tree, native to the Caribbean. It has a combined flavor blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and pepper. Thus, Mr. Pimento is an appropriate name for this Jamaican food truck. Plantains can be cooked when they are ripe and especially sweet. Conversely, they can also be prepared when they are green and a bit tart. I like thesweet plantain version. The ones I purchased were sweet despite their darker color. They were also very soft such that you could cut them with a fork. The food truck manager were quick to make recommendations for entree choices. I did not want something too heavy so opted not to have a bowl. However, I would definitely consider it for the future. It was pretty quiet at the Flamingo food truck park.

Specializing in Nepali and Himalayan cuisine, the food truck introduced me to a dish I had never tried before...momos. Momos are traditional Nepali dumplings that trace their roots back centuries to the Himalayan region. Typically filled with seasoned meat or vegetables, they can be steamed, fried, served in chili sauce, or even enjoyed in a flavorful soup. Monk's Momo offers several styles, including steamed, fried, chili, and jhol (soup-based) momos. I ordered the steamed chicken momos, and they were outstanding...fresh, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor. The emphasis here is clearly on quality. The momos were served with a sesame-tomato dipping sauce that was deliciously bold...definitely a sauce that gets your attention. The manager was friendly and happy to explain the menu and dining options, making the experience even more enjoyable. Free parking at the food truck park is an added bonus. Courtyard seating provides a relaxed environment. This was a great introduction to Monk's Momos, and I'm already looking forward to returning to try more of the menu items.

Our family has deep ties to Guam as my mom is from there, and Hawaii as my dad was stationed there for many years in the air force and I was born there! There are very few places to order a mixed plate here in Austin and this tasted the closest I've had to home in a long time. We ordered the Ohana Platter, Garlic Butter Shrimp Plate, Maui Kalbi Ribs, and Spam Musubi. Everything was hot and delicious and so so so flavorful. The finedene was an amazing touch.
