My wife and I were out in the Round Rock area thrifting and picking up groceries when we decided to stop into Aladdin Halal Grill for lunch. First impression? I'm not gonna lie... I was a little unsure. The place was completely empty when we walked in, and the TV menu screens were off, so we had to rely on the paper takeout menus by the register. Luckily, we already knew what we wanted to try: the gyro wrap combo with fries and a drink. The soda fountain was also down, so they offered canned sodas instead. Not ideal, but thankfully the ice machine was working. To be fair, this was around 12:30 on a random Tuesday and they had only been open about an hour, so I'm giving a little grace there. Now for the important part... the food. The food came out quick, hot, and fresh. The portions were solid, and honestly, these were some of the best plain fries I've had since moving to Texas. Crispy, seasoned just right, and actually fresh. The gyro wrap was loaded and flavorful too. What really stood out was the service. The guy at the counter was super attentive and checked on us multiple times while we were eating. What initially felt like a sketchy little spot honestly turned out to be a hidden gem. Definitely one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" type places.

    Chicken Shawarma Over Rice

I am in Round Rock for work and I happened to stumble across Aladdin Halal Grill after the original place I had in mind was closed, and man am I glad I did! I got a chicken shawarma over rice platter, which was absolutely incredible! The portion sizes were enough for me to make two meals out of, as it came with heaps of chicken, rice, a Mediterranean salad, and a pita. My picture is AFTER I finished my first half of the meal! The service was also incredibly fast and the front desk staff member was extremely friendly. The restaurant was clean, with a good handful of other patrons dining in. I will certainly be back any time I'm in the area!

We ordered takeout from Aladdin Halal Grill and tried two dishes--overall a decent and budget-friendly experience with a few bright spots. What we ordered: Beef Shawarma Arabi This was my first time trying the "Arabi" style, which is kind of like a chicken or beef wrap that's sliced into a few pieces--great for sharing. The beef shawarma inside was super flavorful and well-spiced, but the thin pita wrap got soggy from the juices, which took away from the texture by the time it arrived. Kafta Kabab Plate (with extra lamb kabab) Both the kafta and lamb were pretty average--heavily spiced, though that may be because it wasn't hot anymore by the time we got it. The flavor profile leaned strong on the spices, which might work for some, but wasn't really my favorite. Hummus (served with both dishes) Smooth and lighter than most hummus I've had, but still very solid. The real standout, though, was their sauce--whatever garlic/tomato/hot sauces they include really elevated the meal. Sides: Salad The salad had some bitter cucumber slices that threw me off. Not sure if that's just the produce or a prep issue. Service: fast for delivery and food was well packaged. Would I return? Maybe--especially for the beef shawarma, but next time I'd skip the Arabi wrap and just get the regular version. That said, the pricing here is very reasonable, especially for the portion size. And if you're ordering for a group, that Arabi style wrap is a good one to split. I probably wouldn't go for the kababs again, but I'd definitely come back to explore more of their shawarma options.

Small place in a shopping strip seems family owned and operated. Prices were actually really very reasonable like a shawarma ranging from $8-11 not bad. We had an Adana, arabi and and a plate with beef and lamb. The beef was ok, not great not bad I felt like it was missing something and the pita was a little thick for me ( I got use to the lavashbread at my regular places) the lamb though that was delicious. I think if we go back to Austin I will definitely get the ground lamb kabob. They were extremely nice. I think the 3 star is more because I ordered something that wasn't really my thing. But I will definitely go back for the lamb

Glanced at reviews, and no one mentioned how dirty it was. I like kebab shop and dimassi's for that reason, it is clean in there. I would say it was filthy. Cleanless is a priority to me, so I will skip this place in future. Food was not as good as I would expect. My beef shawarma wrap worth exact $8 not more. Plain pita, pinch of tomatoes and lettuce, some beef, partially hard and chewy, overly salty tahini sauce and not spicy, even I asked to make it spicy. Kids mea $5 is perfect size and value, does not come with any drink. Would I recommend, no. I know better places for a reasonable price to get Mediterranean food. As someone mentioned here, this place offer reasonably priced options, but the quality is not as good. Two men were working at the grill, they did not wear aprons, neither hairnets or hats. Once one of them touched his beard with his hand in a glove and kept cooking. Not the best practice.

We ordered through Uber Eats. One kafta kabob plate, one lamb kabob plate, a side of eggplant dip, a side of meat rolls, and 2 orders each of baklava and nut rolls. Both the kafta and lamb kabobs were a good size and the rice was flavorful. It also came with 2 large thin pitas per dish. The kabobs tasted the same to me and were fine. If you prefer lean, you'll like them. The portion of the eggplant dip was very small. With delivery you never know if someone touched it or that's how it came from the restaurant. For a strip center in Round Rock it was fine.

Chicken Schwarma wrap - you be the judge.

This has been my "go-to" but is this place under new chefs/owners/mgmt? For context, I ordered takeout and took the pic within 10 minutes of picking it up. This is what you now get as a chicken Schwarma wrap. I've eaten 10s of these in my life and never once has it looked like this. Feels lazy. And it tastes like it looks. As does the babaganoush. Not sure what's going on. Hope they realize something is going on in the kitchen and fix it. They've been so good in the past. Hard pass for now.

    Chicken tawook

Loved the chicken tawook! Very nice flavors from the spices, tender juicy chicken, and delicious hummus, rice, pita. Very good price for the combo, will definitely be coming back for lunch often!

Aladdin Halal Grill is one of our favorite mediterranean choices that we have in rotation. One of the nice things about this place is their late hours for those late night munchies! Service can be just a tad slow, but everything is made fresh and yummy! My go-tos are the chicken over hummus plate, the tabouleh (you can add meat to it too for a bit extra!), and the falafel. Their hummus is pretty good and nutty. My roombae likes their lamb and often gets the lamb over rice platter. Everything is decently priced and portioned. Definitely check this place out if you're craving mediterranean and on the north side of town!

Fried Eggplant $5.49 and Eggplant Dip $5.49

The fried eggplant and grilled chicken came out fresh and steaming hot. the chicken tawook was juicy. the eggplant dip has chunks of eggplant in it which I liked, and the meal also came with 2 pieces of pita bread.

    Tonyia F.

Generous servings made fresh to order. Price is very competitive considering that more than likely you will not be able to finish your meal and can make it a 2nd meal for later. Pita bread was not really warm even when wrapped it foil, tasted more like a tortilla, but the salad, cucumbers and tomatoes, was delicious. That was my favorite part of my meal along with the gyro.

However, I'll think about coming here again because I didn't feel a good vibe with the service. We had to go look for someone to show us the table even though the place was empty for early lunch. Then, to get drinks or even the order was a problem. It took so much longer than usual. Our waitress was rude, and seemed bothered that we showed up. Then someone else came as the waitress and she was preoccupied with other tables and barely checked on us. A regular lunch which would've been one hour became almost two because of the lack of service. My friend had to stand and look for someone to give us a box to take out the good we couldn't eat because it was getting late and also to get the check because No one came in to check on us at all. It was almost like pulling teeth to get a regular service let alone good service. Again, the food was really good, and that alone was the only positive.

A Fantastic Introduction to Mediterranean Food!…read more I recently visited Levant Halal Restaurant and brought my parents, who are visiting from India. It was their very first time trying Mediterranean food, and they absolutely loved it! We started with two different types of hummus served with pita. The hummus was incredibly flavorful, and the pita was exceptionally fresh. We also ordered the falafel, which was perfectly prepared and delicious. For the main course, we shared the Chicken Shish Taouk with sides of beet salsa and Lebanese potatoes--everything was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. Honestly, the highlight of the meal for us was the drinks. The mint juice and beet juice were so refreshing and easily the best part! We finished our meal with baklava and basbousa for dessert, and both were fresh, sweet, and incredibly tasty. Beyond the fantastic food, the ambiance is very neat and clean, and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend Levant Halal, especially if you are looking for a great place to introduce family to Mediterranean cuisine!

They also have the safe and standard fair like gyros, kebabs, and shawarmas. For next time, I might consider some of the rice substitutions they looked interesting. I had the eggplant and beef stew, Khoresh Bademjan, and Kashke Bademjan. Both were excellent and complementary despite te similarities. I liked the balanced of yogurt/whey against the eggplant mix with the starter. Someone else had Fesenjan (Persian Pomegranate Chicken), and it was delightful with its mix of sweetness, sourness, and balance that it tempted me away from considering ordering more eggplant dishes the next time I returned. The service was also exceptionally attentive, hospitable, and sociable. The ambiance was professional, fitting, and not overbearing. The deserts were also well portioned and easily shareable. My favorite was the Sholeh Zard, a Persian take on a rice pudding. I didn't see it on the menu, but they had some available. It was a nice mix of sweetness, florals, and spices without being too over the top in any quality. The price seemed fair. It didn't seem like a massive bargain or poor value. The portions were fairly large, but were not excessively massive. Everyone in my party had leftovers, but we are not big eaters and we ordered a starter and two deserts to share for the party of 4. A very slight negative was the rice was cooked a bit inconsistently giving it an uneven texture, but I was the only who noticed in our party. It may have been intentional, the slight crunchiness/hardness did create an interesting mouth feel. I know there are some dishes that do this intentionally. A minor flaw if that would not ruin a masterful meal and experience.

Parking is plentiful right in front of the restaurant. We came by on a Saturday around 1 PM, worried it might be packed, but it was actually pretty quiet. You can sit anywhere you like, grab a plate, and pay when you're done. The space is large and open, with three full rows of food and drinks plus a dedicated station for fruit and desserts. Everything was fresh, not overly salty, and there were plenty of options. My favorites were the hummus with eggplant (so flavorful with great texture), the salad and cucumber salad (fresh and refreshing), the dolma (perfectly done), gyro (tender and tasty), baked cauliflower (so good), fried chicken (juicy, crispy, and not salty), falafel (extra crunchy), and the lentil soup (simple but delicious). And don't miss their coffee at the checkout--it has a hint of warm spice and is the perfect finish after a meal. Surprisingly, I ended up loving the vegetable dishes even more than the meats. Overall, yes, $26 per person is on the higher side (what doesn't cost these days, right?!), but it's a great spot to try a variety of Mediterranean dishes that are fresh, simply seasoned, and let the ingredients shine--perfect whether you're new to the cuisine or just want a bit of everything.

Pulled up Yelp and I remembered that Dimassi's buffet had been on my radar for months, but was it open? Called them up and CHA-CHING!!! Money! They were open, guys. That phone call felt like hitting the lottery. Thanksgiving was saved. We arrived and Dimassi's was calm, clean, and the buffet bar was fully stocked with hot food fresh out of the kitchen. They had your Mediterranean favorites: dips, salads, gyro meat, dolma, chicken kabobs, saffron rice, the good garlicky toum, warm potatoes, fresh pita, everything. They even prepared a turkey for patrons who wanted some. Wow. They understood the assignment. Now a couple things could be tweaked. I like my baba ganoush served warm...and maybe they could have had some lamb options? But, honestly? For a buffet on Thanksgiving at $23 a person ($9 for the 3 yr old with us), they delivered HARD. Dimassi's didn't just feed us...they rescued us from the Golden Corral Hunger Games. Thank you for being open. Thank you for coming through in the clutch. You saved Thanksgiving.
