garlic naan
Mary S.

We loved the yummy smells coming from this restaurant and had to try it. The menu is available in large print near the entrance. I ordered the mild tikka masala chicken, which comes with a generous rice scoop on the sude, plus I requested garlic naan. The food came out at a reasonable time and was beautiful in presentation. I could eat here everyday because it was so good! The service was very friendly and clean.

Tarka has been consistently good and reliable. The chicken tika masala is a favorite. You can add veggies and adjust the spice level. If you order extra spicy, it comes with jalapenos. The samosas are consistently good as well as the garlic naan. When I have an Indian food craving, I usually order from Tarka and it never disappoints!

Tarka remains our favorite Indian fast food restaurant in austin. It's quick, affordable and the quality is consistent. Today I got tikka masala for the first time and I had to admit that it's my least favorite dish from Tarka so far, hence the 3-star review.

Tarka is a great place to eat. I love the chicken pakoras. I also get the plain naan and their mango lemonade might be the best drink in south Austin. The restaurant is always busy but service is great. Servers are so friendly. The cleanliness is remarkable. Overall great place to sit outside and relax with family and friends.

I went to Tarka on the last possible date to redeem my birthday reward: buy one adult entree and receive a free adult entree of equal or lesser value. The food was delicious, but there was a slight glitch in the ordering process. I wanted a vegetarian option and inquired about tofu. The cashier said they only have paneer, an Indian cheese. So I ordered that as my main choice. I ordered the Chana Masala and the Mataar Paneer to go. The Chana Masala entree was delicious, served hot and steaming! I had requested medium spicy. It was tasty, but I wanted an additional sauce to enhance the flavor. A cashier agreeably complied, and it made the dish even better! The to-go order was listed on the receipt as Saag Chana. I was surprised that it did not contain paneer. (Or maybe it was a miscommunication on my part.) The server agreed to add paneer to the takeout order. That was totally acceptable to me. It took about 10 minutes for the order to be prepared, and the restaurant ambiance is pleasant while waiting.

Tarka Indian Kitchen is my favorite restaurant for authentic Indian cuisine. They have an app that is easy to use to place an order. Their food is fresh and flavorful and you can customize the spice level. I always start my meal with the garlic naan that is made fresh. They offer a variety of entrees that you can choose a protein with or go the vegan route. My go-tos are the saag paneer that is a rich creamy spinach dish served with basmati rice and the tikka masala with its rich creamy garlic tomato base. I enjoy the Biryani stir fried rice dishes as well with garlic, ginger and spices served with yogurt. I tried the Aloo Globi special which was cauliflower, potatoes and peas with spices. My all time favorite is the mango lemonade. I must drink 3+ glasses of this juice it is amazing. Food is ready when promised and is always fresh and delicious.

I ordered a salad and mild Beyond biryani when I was visiting a friend last week. The cashier was nice and he was very helpful. The food was very good and I ate to the full. The salad was fresh and the rice was cooked perfectly. The restaurant was clean and very well designed.

This place smacks you in the face as soon as you walk in. In a GOOD way. The spices, the aroma of fresh garlic nan cooking amongst other delicious Indian fare was delightful. Friendly service and plenty of indoor seating. Their curbside orders were BUSY on a Tuesday. I kept seeing the runner go out every 5min. A very unexpected place in a strip mall off Brodie Ln across the street from Academy where the DSW is. Thank you yelpers. I was really missing Indian food. We used to live 15min from Little India in Southern California where you could get any regional indian fare and cruise the snack and carry grocery stores. My eyes were bigger than my tummy when I ordered. When you get a welcomed hug from the spices in the air you can't help but talk yourself into everything you ate craving. What I got: Tikka marsala with chicken (med). It wasn't that hot. Next time I will get the hot. Came with some lovely Jasmin rice. -It was full of flavor and depth like the sauce was cooking for days -It didn't even need the chicken. I could have easily got that with a vegetarian option Soo good and comforting. Not oily or too rich Garlic Nan -warm, chewy, crispy edges -no more vampires here. Heavy on the garlic which was delicious with swipes of butter -let this be your ok carb day and enjoy.. Samosa Chaat Appetizer -mix of hot and cold -spicy, savory and warmth from the mix of spices -it could easily be a meal on its own. I ate a few bites then realized I need to keep space for the marsala All that food came up to around 20.00. When I was done eating, It looked like no one ate. It Could easily have fed 2 adults. I ate the left overs for breakfast the next morning. It was just as good! Would I go again. YES. This will be on my monthly rotation. Its nice to see and eat something besides burgers, bbq, sandwiches or other "beige" foods. Great to bring your family, a business lunch, girlfriends, or date night. Doesn't break the bank which is nice these days. Come visit and be adventurous!

Lamb Biryani (GF)

This is one of those places where I don't need a menu. Always get the same thing. The lamb biryani is awesome. Plenty of food for 2. Add an order of garlic naan and I've got two meals for under $20. The folks are always nice and the restaurant is convenient, clean, and not too loud.

This was my second time ever having Indian food, but my first time at this restaurant. Needless to say, it was amazing the quality was great, flavor was flavorful, and the service was great. I can't wait to come back!

Kofta Korma
Vis V.

For takeout, we ordered the following items: - Cheese Naan - Kofta Korma - Saag Chicken - Chicken Korma - Paneer Pakora I highly suggest reheating the paneer pakoras in the air fryer or oven to restore their crispiness. The cheese naan resembled an Indian version of classic cheesy bread. As always, the kormas were delicious , and I would recommend trying the saag with paneer instead of chicken.

Vegetable Samosas with mint sauce
Evin G.

Great prices and decent food. This food is not the most amazing Indian food I've had but for the price and the portion sizes I would absolutely make it a regular spot. I ordered the lamb vindaloo, garlic naan and veggie samosas. The lamb was cooked well and the sauce was very flavorful with a good amount of lamb. The rice was really delicious. The garlic naan was okay. Good at first but the farther from fresh it got, even just an hour, the more flat and chewy. Samosas were standard. I wish they had the tamarind sauce I've sometimes had with it, but there was a spicy mint sauce. Overall, 4 stars for the taste+price.

I'm still leaving a five star review bc the food is delicious and healthy, but I wanted to give the feedback that I'm disappointed with a couple of changes they have made. They used to have beets as an option for the salad, which I used to get added on every time. It was part of what helped me choose to come in here to eat healthy. I'm also disappointed with their "healthy fats" selection. They used to have almonds and I believe also walnuts for a while. They now have taken away all nuts except for praline covered nuts. Which is too sweet for me. They do still have sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds as an option. And also avocado for extra money, but I was very disappointed today with my purchase bc of not having beets as an option or any nuts to add to my salad. REALLY hope they decide to bring those back.

I feel better about my life when I order this because I'm getting my greens in, getting my protein with the chicken, and I'm actually enjoying my rabbit food (aka salad). This is a must have for me. Coming from a non salad person ( I know... it's okay to judge me) I really enjoy their salads and their spicy bacon bowl makes me happy. Another food item that I love is their Mac and cheese. It's so tasty. I love it here and love their salads because the greens taste fresh. #madgoodness

I ordered the grilled steak taco, rotisserie chicken taco and special taco of the week (pork dumpling smash taco). We also ordered the elote and queso to share. The elote was good, but very creamy and a bit heavy. The queso was good but tbh I prefer Torchy's. The grilled steak taco was a bit underwhelming, I wanted it to have more flavor, it just tasted like beef and cheese. The chicken had good flavor and the special weekly taco was enjoyable and interesting, not like any taco I have had before. There is plenty of variety for people including those with dietary restrictions. My friends ordered two tacos each and I was full after 3 tacos so if you are not a big eater stick with two.

I was really craving a great salad, so I decided to go in. At first you walk up and order, and then the clerk at the front, like all other places turns the screen around and says "One last question", and then stares at you, while you read their 3 tipping options. So you're standing there, guilted into tipping, by an individual that only pressed a couple of buttons, only to have the kitchen get your order wrong. At an establishment like this, it would be nice if you could tip at the end, after the whole experience, instead of out of obligation at the beginning, because you have an individual begging for it. Anyways. So after I ordered I waited, only to get a $20 salad that had 4 small pieces of chicken and with the Miso dressing which I didn't order. I ordered the Lemon Avocado Vinaigrette which came with no snap peas, when I ordered extra. Then when I finally was able to flag someone down and tell them what had happened, she said "Ok" and went back and got a bowl of snap peas. No "I'm sorry" or "Let us remake it" I wouldn't have had them remake it because I hate wasting food.....but what I hate more is feeling like crap, undervalued and unappreciated. Where was the customer service? If you want a great salad, go here......but don't expect to get what you ordered, after you've been strong armed into tipping, and when you bring it up, expect an eye roll like you're inconveniencing them. I think I'll be taking all my Rollingwood women's group friends, to the new spot for a try......Sweet Green in the HEB parking lot.....or I'll go into HEB and buy a whole rotisserie chicken for $6 and a bag of salad for another $4 and go enjoy two salads at home. For such a casual place, y'all sure act uppity, entitled and as if, you're serving Grey Poupn on top of a Grade A slab of Prime Rib.

This trailer is just in front of the Trek bike shop on South Lamar, not out on the street, so it took me a second to find it. It's a great little setup with big covered picnic tables and plenty of space to hang out. Trek also lets you use their bathroom, which is actually really convenient, just head inside and all the way to the back. The food here feels genuinely nourishing. It's vegan and very vegetable forward in a way that doesn't feel preachy, just fresh and intentional. The tacos are especially unique. The tortillas are made from spelt and garbanzo flour, and they remind me a bit of the tangy, pancake-like bread you get with Ethiopian food. It gives the tacos this unexpected flavor and texture that works surprisingly well. The toppings tasted fresh every time, and the tempeh has a smoky flavor, so if you're into that, you'll be happy. I didn't realize at first how customizable the menu is, but you can add all kinds of toppings and extras. They also do full coffee service plus a big smoothie lineup. The smoothies come with sea moss, which I wasn't familiar with before, but they're clearly big believers in it as a nutritional boost. Service was friendly both times. Once they even brought my food out to me! Either way, they were kind and attentive. You can also ask for water even though they don't have self-serve jugs out. If you're looking for food that tastes good and actually leaves you feeling lighter and energized afterward, this spot is worth it. I'm glad I went back a second time.

A fine time was had by all. * * * The Mueller food court is right in front of that huge concrete semi-circular arch that is supposed to provide cover for outdoor athletic activities. When we were there medieval warriors were using it to practice their sword play, parrying and bashing. Armor is recommended when you are playing with swords and cudgels. The battlers involved were fully equipped. If Renaissance Fair fare is not your thing, in late afternoon, the park at Mueller is gorgeous. Lots of people are walk or exercise by the lake. If you are young and single, Well, wouldn't you know it, many of the walkers and exercisers are young and single too! If lake viewing or fantasizing is not your thing, you can sit over by Airport Boulevard. This is one of the nicer parts of Airport Boulevard. Warmly glowing parkland on either side on either side of the street vastly improve the quality of the view. Given its location, Conscious Craving can be a good place to hang out. * * * How is the food? Old school vegetarian - and that is a good thing. a) The smoothies are absolutely positively 1970s vegetarian. They are not made of carob - but they are of the carob generation. Expect low levels of sugar and a sense you are drinking something nutritious. They have their own quaint charm. b) Wraps are tasty. You get a wide choice of tortillas, veggies and soy based stuff to put in them plus the cook puts in all sorts of garnishes. There are sauces available - but the wraps are fine just as they are. c) Rosemary French Fries are decent enough. French Fries are the eternal proof That you can eat as vegan as you like and Still be eating stuff that is not all that good for you. d) The guy who runs the truck is a real charmer. He is too young to be Grateful Dead generation or Cheech and Chong ... but he has a lot of the coolness of those 70s heroes. e) I know what he means when he brags on the truck that his food is "made with love". I always see more meanings in that phrase than I am supposed to ... I have an awful mind. * * * Overall, Conscious Cravings serves decent food. The healthy diet will keep you alive and well to a ripe old age ... Mueller is a wonderful place to spend some time. If any of the medievalists in the back end up hors de combat from a too-well aimed shot with a broadsword or cudgel, Conscious Cravings will be just what they need to nurse themselves back to health.
