When I worked in high-tech, I managed the Asian Design Centers in Taiwan, Singapore, China and India and visited these countries twice a quarter. When I walked into Tandoori Lounge, I was immediately transported back to my time in India. The atmosphere is sultry and seductive. You are drawn in my the dimly lit restaurant with warm soothing colors. You hear this soft intoxicating music as you take in these tiny table lamps. We were all in! I met a Yelp friend for dinner that I had not seen for quite some time. It was great catching up! As you walked in, you could smell a hint of the aroma of spices coming from the kitchen. Is it possible that everything you eat or drink is exceptional? Can service be at the highest possible level? Yes and Yes! We ordered the onion kulcha and garlic naan as appetizers. They were fresh, hot, soft and super flavorful. You could taste the onions in the kulcha and the garlic was pronounced in the garlic naan. We both ordered the lamb/goat marsala (medium for me and mild for my friend). The entrée was an explosion of flavors in your mouth...so good! The entrée was rich and enjoyable to eat without being heavy. It came with basmati rice where the kernels did not stick to each other. The rice was airy and fluffy. My friend ordered an Indian beer. When in India, Indian beer is a staple. I ordered a lemon drop martini. This was the best martini I have had in a very long time. Shamu, the bartender, came over to our table to explain what other martinis he could make that were not on the menu. The Lemon Drop martini was ice cold (loved that), smooth and perfectly blended. Shamu said that the glass was first chilled before the martini was poured. Drinking narvana... Riya, our server, was so sweet and kind. She was meticulous in serving our table - water constantly refilled, lemons delivered and food strategically placed on the table. Riya suggested our entrée as the most popular dish. We absolutely understand why. I am not sure why we have never eaten at Tandoori. I definitely will be returning when I am back in the South part of the city.
This place was absolutely delicious! Every dish we tried was full of flavor and the fresh naan. The service was friendly, and the portions were generous. Definitely a great spot for authentic Indian cuisine.
Had a few things to pick up on this side of town yesterday and we were looking for a new experience. Found this place tucked back behind my old dentist and a Birds Barbershop. We walked in about 1:00 and it was fairly empty save for a few customers. The waiter was prompt and nice. We ordered a few things-- Chicken 65 (amazingly tender and delicious), the Navratan Korma (veggie curry) at a medium heat, which was just right for me... had a kick but didn't hurt, Raita (yogurt-based sauce) and some garlic naan (4 pieces and delicious). The food itself was stellar. The price was good... was about $42 for lunch (a little more than I'd like to spend on lunch typically, but we wanted to sample more than one dish). The dishes are also made to sample, and the portion could have fed two more people. This is a great option for lunch or dinner with friends or family when you want to try something outside the Tex-Mex / Austin diner scene.
A surprisingly elegant retreat tucked into Sunset Valley, with dark marble tables and elevated service. Amy was shy but attentive, steering me towards the Lamb Sagwala - a mild curry (green from spinach, tempering the spice and bringing a variety of other herbal flavors forward). Tender, toasty naan soaks up extra sauce. Samosas are served in twos, a delicate but sturdy crust filled with smooth potato in perfect ratio with green peas. This tamarind sauce is tops! Sweet & spicy, perfectly hanging on every bite. A great option for weeknights when planning dinner is beyond scheduling, hosting larger groups, and date night!
Medium = HOT! I can't even remember what it was called but it is Tofu based. Enough for 2, absolutely delicious! I remember now it was Kadai Paneer. Yum
Last night, I visited Tandoori Lounge with my partner (suggested by our friends) expecting dine-in since they advertise being open until 3 am. However, upon arrival at 12:30 am on a weekend, we were told only takeout was available due to maintenance-quite unusual timing for such work. Despite this, we opted for takeout and enjoyed the food at home. The chicken korma was well-balanced in spices with tender chicken, and the garlic naan was excellent. The chili paneer, however, was a bit too sweet for my taste. Overall, good flavors but the late-night maintenance notice was odd and inconvenient.
It was decent. The food was alright, not super outstanding. Service is good. The food came out fast.
We visited Tandoori lounge for an early dinner. We really enjoyed their curry dishes, garlic naan and vegetable samosas. Very friendly and good service. Yummy food and lots of vegetarian options.
The plates were immaculate. I have to say beats any Indian restaurant right now for me. Service was fine diligent I believe it was also one person through the entire restaurant as a host except for the cooks and one expo in the back so I gotta say hands off great service. (Mind my plates we went in) vegan friendly as well !
Finally! A really good brick-and-mortar Indian restaurant close to Oak Hill. I ordered the goat bone-in tikka masala medium spicy. With the first bite, I was transported back to the curry houses in Cambridge England, it was absolutely divine! And it was balanced perfectly by the cucumber raita sauce, which I ordered separately. They have a full bar, so I am looking forward to trying out some of the mixed drinks on the next visit. Service is excellent,- polite and professional. The decor is casual , not too bright and I found had an incredibly calming effect, I really did not want to leave I felt in a really good place. I will definitely be coming back here again soon.
A delicious spot! It's not a fancy spot and more of a casual restaurant to bring family and friends. Don't be afraid if you don't see a lot of food in the buffet and it needs a refill. You just ask them to refill or make fresh naan if you want more. Everything I had was delicious. Their tandoori chicken and butter chicken was delicious. The service was very nice and attentive. The cleanest bathrooms in South Austin! I mean it Spotless! I can't wait to go here again. Even if it's a bit of a drive for me...

Beautiful restaurant invoking lounges of India - it's not just the name, it's the feel too. As a beer person, I love that they have 4 Indian beers and 2 more Indian-inspired US beer. I believe they have Indian wine and liquor too. The vegetable biryani was delicious too - it's a bit scary that their spicy scale starts at medium and goes up from there, but medium was just fine for me. A kick, but not painful. Going to have to come back to try a curry and another beer since they're so large (both the food and the bottle)! read more
I came here with a fellow Yelp Elite and friend after a workout and it surely satisfied our post-workout hunger. We had the onion kulcha as starter and it was freshly made and delicious. We both ordered the lamb tikka masala and it was rich and savory, we ordered some garlic naan to have some of the sauce with...outstanding! The bartender Shamu came to our table to give us martini options and came back after to check on us, that was a nice extra touch. Our server Ría was very kind and knowledgeable. The ambience at this place is chic casual, I like the black and golds, they have a full bar and plenty of space for big parties. I'd definitely come back here to try more Indian food! read more

The food here was honestly pretty good! I really enjoyed it and think that it's a great late night bite with good pricing. I had a half tandoori chicken with a hot spice level which was great, and a strawberry lassi which is now definitely a favorite drink. The ambiance was fair, they had some house music going which I thought was an interesting choice. The service was so so, the manager was accommodating but the server was death staring us and looked like she was about ready to kick us out after an hour. She brought the check while we were eating and having good conversation which I thought was a little rude. 18% gratuity is also included which I think is fair, we are a table of good tippers so we of course added an extra 3% to make it 20! I'd come here again for sure, just maybe would hope for a different server. read more

This was our first time dining here. The food, service, and atmosphere were fantastic! We had the chicken samosas, garlic naan, chicken saagwala and chicken biryani. Everything was delicious! For drinks, they had a unique version of an Old Fashioned that had warm winter spices. It was super tasty and perfect for a chilly evening. We will definitely be back! read more

I like the fact ghat the restaurant is open until late st night. This makes it a perfect spot for late night cravings. The menu is pretty extensive and the ambiance is contemporary and relaxed. The service was just fine. The food in general is good with few exception like butter chicken..Overall finally good to have a decent Indian restaurant in South Austin read more
Everything here is hands down delicious! I can't get enough of their tandoori. And at just $2.49 for a beer come on, this is my go-to spot for comfort food ; plus the prices are very reasonable. The seating is comfortable, and the ambiance is great too. The service is okay. read more
You know the food is good when you immediately start eating and forget to take a picture! I went two times, once to their weekend buffet and once with a friend. LUNCH BUFFET: Great selection of foods, including chicken tikka, goat biryani, saag paneer, samosas, pakoras, naan, chole, chai, and more items that I can't recall FOOD: We ordered the chili chicken appetizer, lamb biryani, and lamb boti. I went with one other person, and we had ordered 3 dishes because we thought the appetizer would be small, but the portion sizes were huge. - Chili Chicken: sweet, spicy, tangy, and crispy - absolutely delicious! Since it was an appetizer, it did not come with any plain white rice - Lamb Biryani: well-spiced, aromatic, generous meat to rice ratio - mouthwatering! - Lamb Boti Kabab - dry, a little burnt, didn't come with much pieces of kabab, would not order next time. AMBIANCE/SERVICE: - You know an Indian restaurant is authentic when most of its patrons are also South Asian! - For what they lack in service, they make up in flavor (but this is pretty common in desi restaurants lol). We had to get our waiters attention for water refills, but they were nice overall. - Plenty of parking outside. COST: - I don't remember the exact costs of each item, but I think the total was around $60 with tip. OVERALL: - As a South Asian person, I would recommend this place to my friends! The lunch buffet was a great experience! Service was friendly and quick. They constantly replenished all of the items. Tikka masala, paneer, chicken korma were all delicious. The puri bread was hot, light, and I couldn't get enough of it Also, all the chai you can drink! The price was well worth it. They have 5 really large TV's playing sports, a cooking channel, and Bollywood music videos. There is also a bar with a lot of options. It was the perfect lunch on a rainy Austin day. read more
Stopped by for dinner on a Saturday evening, and the vibe instantly took me back to a place my parents used to take me--that's when you know it's going to be good! We ordered the house beer, daal makhani, masala dosa, goat curry, and bullet naan. Everything was delicious, though the sambhar and daal were served cold. Came back and ranking it 5 stars again. Very very consistent in the best way! You haveeee to get the garlic naan - comes in 4 pieces and is top tier. The lamb biriyani is delicious and is a massive portion - I end up eating half at the table and the other half for lunch the next day (score!!) Nut allergy warning - some dishes do have nuts (all of the desserts especially), but they are especially careful with things. They were also very considerate with my friend's gluten-free needs. We arrived on a Sunday night around 7PM and there were tables available. Saw a good amount of people doing take out as we were there. Food came out pretty quickly - about 15 minutes for appetizers and 20-25 minutes for entrees. For four people, we ordered: -Chili Chicken -Chicken Tiki Marsala -Lamb Biryani -Gobi Manchurian -2x Veg Samosa (2 pieces each) (Came with yogurt, mint, and tamarind sauces!) -2x Garlic Naan (4 pieces each) This was plenty of food and we had leftovers. I'd review each of the dishes, but I don't eat Indian enough for a frame of reference. Everything was well spiced and very sharable. I'd suggesting order an extra ordering of rice to go with the appetizers and Chicken Tiki Marsala, but the garlic naan was a great side and very flavorful and was great to dip in the sauce. The house wine ($3.49) was light and a bit sweet. The house beers are Bud/Coors/other light beers, but pretty great price at $2. read more

After moving in the neighborhood, I was delighted to have discovered a desi restaurant that serves dosa. The dosa was honestly quite delicious. However it had black specks all over the dosa. It was the teflon debris, quite toxic especially for me, being 7 months pregnant. They were nice enough to remake it but it had the same problem and had teflon particles. They acknowledged it and said this is the best they could do. I had to walk out with no food. Looks like this is a reoccurring problem since there is a previous review with the same issue. read more

Finally tried this place yesterday and was not disappointed. Service is slightly off but nothing that's too big a deal. For the food here's what we ordered: 1. Chili chicken - excellent and I'd def order again 2. Lamb vindaloo - tasty and flavorful curry with pretty soft pieces of meat as well 3. Goat Biryani - this was good but not the best I've had. Served with Raita which Ofcourse is delicious 4. Shrimp chettinad (not pictured) - also tasty and something I haven't had before 5. Naans - garlic naan was perfection and the bullet naan was insanely spicy just as it suggests All in all, will definitely be back to try more. Glad there's this spot so close to me. read more
