Milestone Review Time: I KNEW that the only way to celebrate my 450th Yelp Review is by being Madras Dhaba's 158th Yelp Review. I shall gate keep no longer and let everyone in on not only what/where my number one fav Indian joint is but why. So let's go! It's a food truck. Yup, a food truck off E. 6th in downtown Austin TX pumping out the Indian food of my dreams. Confession Session: I have never personally visited said food truck or been to this location. But every single visit to ATX includes me ordering Madras Dhaba delivery to my hotel. Turn around time has always been rather quick and accurate. So what are my go-to orders? They are their delish and slightly spicy two piece samosa, their paratha, and saag paneer. This place has odd hours, apparently closed on Wed, and I typically will order on Thurs nights. I have found that their menu offerings can vary depending on when you're ordering. On a Tues they didn't have Saag Panner on the menu so I opted for Panner Tiki Masala, still delish but not as good as that Saag Panner. Also their rice is S O good! I've recently found myself also ordering their Panner Tikka Tacos and yes...those have now become an absolute staple that I feel inclined to include in every order. Don't you judge me. I have also had their Veg Biriyani and was satisfied with that as well. TBH I have legit never been disappointed with anything I have had from Madras Dhaba. The flavors, the portions, the price. They all come together and create what I have previously described as my fav Indian joint. Will I end up visiting in person, I would hazard a guess and say yes, some day I will actually eat at the food truck. But until then, you can find me ordering delivery from them and having way too much food that is way too good to be as cheap as it is at my hotel. That's it. That's the review. read more

Best Chana Masala I've ever had! I go here so often! If you live in Austin and love Indian food, you have to try this place

Tried Chicken vindaloo and chicken curry. On all the curries, something is wrong with flavor / ingredients, chicken doesn't taste fresh either. To reiterate, favors / spices feel out of sort in proportion therefore tasting very far from authentic curries of the cuisine. Would prefer better quality even if price needs to be raised. read more

My friend has been consistently raving about the paneer tacos here, so when I went to visit we had no choice but to try them out. The good news? They were great-- A+ tacos all the way. Our second choice of taco, however, was a bit iffier. In the spirit of trying new things, we chose to also get the samosa tacos, thinking that if they were even half as good as the paneer tacos they'd be well worth it. Well folks, I fear they were not even half as good as the paneer tacos. They were quite literally just samosas wrapped in naan bread with like 1-2 other things and not nearly enough sauce. the samosas themselves were good, but they didn't feel at all cohesive with the taco. I admire the creative effort, but maybe try to perfect it before releasing it to the public. 5 stars for the innovative menu and the paneer tacos, -1 for the poorly executed samosa taco. read more

The best thing about Austin is the abundance of food trucks; they usually cater audience with fantastic food sans the decor that is usually associated with a sit down restaurant. The prices, for the most part, are relatively cheap and the quantity is plentiful. Madras Dhaba delivers on all these aspects. Madras Dhaba, located on the 6th street, occupies a spot among many other food trucks in a rectangular parking structure-esque area. The menu is front and center and it's quiet interesting. For starters, it has Indian Tacos, which I guess is very popular here. Unfortunately, we didn't try those (I think this was a big miss from my side) instead, we opted for the tried and tested, chicken 65 and paneer tikka masala along with Paratha and Garlic naan. We got the food to-go, although they have tables there for you to enjoy the food right there. The paratha was a delight and the quantity was abundant. The paneer tikka masala though was on the sweeter side which was a bummer. Everything was piping hot and fresh and we enjoyed the food. They do food delivery via all the regular delivery services which is a plus for anyone who wants to enjoy food at their own comfort. MadrasDhaba is an Indian food truck with a variety of options to choose from. It has both Vegetarian and meat options along with the usual drinks and deserts that you'd find in a typical Indian establishment. The twist about this place is the availability of Indian styled Tacos which is popular among the folks. This place is worth a try if you're in the area. read more

One of the best Indian food trucks I have been to. The food here is incredible, so flavorful and not a bad price. I got the Channa Masala tacos. The channa masala was so flavorful, tons of depth to the dish. The taco part was Paratha which was super soft and moist and flaky. Such a great dish. I love the fusion. read more

The flavors were on point, the tortilla which was a paratha was flaky and delicious. I definitely enjoy this more than velvet tacos chicken tikka taco My only complaint was the chicken was on the dryer side - if anything I would've been happy with a little more tikka gravy to help the dryness. I was not expecting this food to be this good from a food truck. Shows how much I know about Austin. I stopped by this spot before heading back to El Paso with a group of friends. I ordered the somosa's, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. The somosa's were the regular potato filled kind and was 2nd only to some I had in Singapore. The chicken tikka masala and basmati rice were a nice spice and incredibly tasty. Some of the best I've had in years. The garlic naan was probably the item that could have had the most improvement as it seemed like it wasn't made fresh but it still allowed for good taste. Had the tikka paneer tacos tonight and they was so amazing. 2 enormous tacos oozing with exotic Indian flavor that filled me right up for about 12 dollars with the tip. That's a deal right there . Oh and it was ready in less than 5 minutes so that's an extra bonus to the deal as well. I really want to come back here one day, but it's not guaranteed tho as I cannot stand the parking downtown, but I will definitely never forget the tacos I had here. read more

Not sure how to feel about this place. I got the chicken biryani, the chicken vindaloo, saag panner and garlic naan. The biryani was kind of blah. Just maybe not enough spices. The vindaloo was ok. It was spicy as I ordered it though. The panner was good but very non-spicy. I don't feel it's authentic Indian food. However, the people making it are Indian for sure. One HUGE disappointment was the naan. It is straight from Trader Joe's. Literally. Ok ok ok where to begin with this place. Chicken biryani - HOLY SHIT. This dish is an absolute banger. If it was a Quentin Tarantino movie it would be Pulp Fiction: universally loved by everyone except those with bad taste. If you don't like this dish then you don't like biryani. Samosas: crispy and flavorful. This is a great example of a classic dish executed to perfection. Parathas: buttery and flaky. What's not to love? Alo with the classic style. They do offer a jalepeno cheese paratha but it's not as good as the original. The owner: textbook example of a hardworking business owner and someone you want to see succeed. I don't know how I've gone this long without writing a review for Madras Dhaba especially when you consider how much I love this place! Nestled in a food truck park on East 6th street, it is difficult to find parking and the hours can be weird on some days but my god, its so worth it! Ok, I needed to revisit this review because it deserves much more love. Traditional flavor is a must with Indian food. But I have come here time and time again being thoroughly impressed with what Madras Dhaba has to offer. With a selective menu, they make sure their food is on point. (Normally my go to is the chicken biryani which is amazing!) This weekend I was craving Indian good so I ordered samosas, paratha and paneer tikka masala - all phenomenal - but I also just wanted something different. So I ordered the chicken 65, never having seen it on another Indian menu before. The dish blew my mind. Robust flavor and a rich coating of creamy spiced sauce with a grilled taste that reminded me of something cooked in a clay oven. Apparently the owner, Thilak, got motivation for this dish from a restaurant he went to in Madras, India. It was so good that during lunch today I was craving more and picked some up as a snack. The portion is good for sharing and it is not pre-made ( I saw him preparing the chicken for my meal). The cilantro sauce it comes with is a great addition. It's been a few years since we've had a chance to come back and try madras dhaba! They've managed to keep the flavor consistent over the course of the few years the trucks been around. I tried their paneer tikka tacos and they were not bad. I wish the tacos were a bit more spicy that would definitely elevate the flavors to a new level. Service is fast and they are open sure late! The chicken tikka tacos I didn't know I needed in my life! Ordered delivery on a whim and it exceeded expectations. The tacos arrived piping hot (I live close to the truck but was too lazy to walk over - don't judge; we've all been there!) and were MASSIVE. Solid spot to grab some Indian quickly if you're craving it. I love the concept of paratha tacos and think that's a great TX Indian twist. I stopped by around noon on a Monday and there was no line. I was debating between getting the Chicken 65 and the Chicken Tikka Masala Tacos (both $10.99) but got the Chicken 65 because I wanted something with a bit of a kick to it. I also got a Mango Lassi ($3.50). I thought the prices were super reasonable, and the tacos were pretty hefty so they definitely filled me up for lunch. They were pretty good flavor wise, but I think the flavor could have been more rounded out. Paratha itself was buttery and crispy. The Mango Lassi was great in flavor, but the cardamom in it was not fully ground up - I got pieces of cardamom in my mouth in almost every sip and had to either swallow them or spit them out, which definitely made it less enjoyable than it could have been. If that were not the case, I would have been more impressed by the Mango Lassi. Neither staff member in the truck were wearing masks, not while talking or preparing food. I would love to see that changed to improve COVID safety precautions, which would make me feel more comfortable eating there more regularly. read more

Tasty Indian food truck located (predominantly) on 6th Street in East Austin. I've been here many times after having a tipple or two and have always found it to be tasty, and altogether very satisfying. This truck offers several of your most popular Indian dishes, as well as several interesting fusion options--including Indian tacos that use paratha for their outside wrapper in lieu of a tortilla. Funnily enough, this "fusion" style isn't much of a departure from more traditional Indian fare when you consider the fact that naan and paratha are often dipped in curry or used to wrap and eat other Indian foods. I think this place is also known for serving a very thick mango lassi, which I find a good beverage to follow your meal with. Probably the only downside I can see is that each time I'm here, I notice that there are tons of flies flying around, so be mentally prepared to be swatting throughout your dining experience here. read more

The taste of this food simply cannot make up by how poorly this food truck is run. I live across the street, so I've given Madras Dhaba plenty of chances. Literally every time I order from them on one of the delivery apps, the food is not ready on time. The guys working, likely the owners, don't apologize for their delay. Rather, they get rude about it saying things like, "Don't trust the app, listen to me." or "Go wait over there, it will be ready when it's ready." Not, "I'm sorry we're late, let me throw in a free dessert for you" or even simply, "Sorry." Like I said, I've tried them multiple times and it's always the same story. Tonight was the last straw, when I showed up 5 minutes after the app said my food was ready and was told to come back in 15 minutes. 20 minutes later I came back and they didn't know who I was or what my order was, and when they finally figured it out they said "5 more minutes" while they STARTED to assemble the order. Finally eating my dinner, the chicken 65 tacos were cold and a bit too dry for me. The chicken tikka masala was good and I loved the galub jamun dessert. But again, the taste cannot make up for the constant delays and rudeness from the restaurant. I'll be heading literally anywhere else for my next Indian takeout meal. read more

Long overdue visit to this food truck and I'm quite sorry to not have come sooner. I rarely have the desire for Indian food, but when I do, I will definitely come to Madras Dhaba. Everything is pretty on point. Portions are pretty generous. The saag paneer is a hefty cup of spinach with paneer cheese. It looks like they crisp up the paneer on the griddle as it has some sear before it gets incorporated into the spinach, which I don't recall seeing other places do that, but it does offer some extra texture. The rice is also flavored, probably with ghee, as it adds some extra richness to the dish instead of plain white rice. I also highly recommend getting an order of paratha, or trying the tacos. The paratha is crisp, laminated bread at its finest and the perfect vehicle for dipping into the curries! read more

Rudest customer service! Literally shooed us away after placing order since he didn't want us to stand by the truck. Never going back!! Update- tasted the to go food and it's the most unsatisfying Indian food my friends have ever tried! The curry is nothing but water , rather colored water. Please don't go there if you love authentic indian. Tacos- more like burritos were made out of huge parathas bought off a shelf and stuffed with meat veggies and rice. All I can say is Delicious!!!! If you are craving authentic Indian food order in austin, this is a great start! It has the perfect amount of spice which I LOVE. The order did take a long while so I would suggest ordered ahead BEFORE you get hungry... I ordered the Lamb Vindaloo and Lamb Curry w/ two sides of paratha & basmati rice. The paratha was so soft and airy too! I was nervous because paratha should be soft and airy and some Indian I have tried in Austin it's not so. The Lamb tacos were great too, (can you tell I realllyyyy love Lamb) I can't wait to try some of the other options. Something was left out of my order but I called and was able to work out the issue very quickly. Authentic quick Indian food on wheels. Every time we come down to Austin, we try to stop here as it has one of the most delicious Indian dishes. We have tried their panner tacos, Chana masala tacos and biryani and all are so delicious. Their sitting area has plenty of space to sit, they also offer verity of soda and bottle water. Lovely find on East 6th! We had the chicken 65 tacos, the chicken Tikka tacos and an order of samosas. Chicken Tikka tacos and samosas were 5/5 perfect, the chicken 65 tacos could have used a bit more tanginess. There were tons of other items on the menu and would definitely need to pay a second visit to discover more. Very close to $10 weekend parking at the Arnold, so that's a plus too. read more

First time ordering from Madras Dhaba and it was phenomenal! The paratha was almost a pastry, really unique and delicious. I also really enjoyed their house curry and the masala.
