Contacted Uber Eats, Instacart Restaurants, and the restaurant directly for correction. Got passed back and forth between Uber and Instacart, each pointing to the other. Uber's final response: "we reviewed your request - the order matches." It did not. The restaurant agreed to correct it, then never did. What I ordered and didn't receive: naan, mango lassi, chicken, 2 orders of samosa, 2 curries. What I received instead: 2 rice, 2 "paneer," and 2 desserts that looked inedible. Ate at Royal India twice, both having a LivingSocial voucher. I tried the north and the south Austin location and both restaurants presented me with delicious and authentic food. Started with the Garlic Naan. Heard it was pretty good and I definitely agree. Not only was the bread hot with crispy edges, the flavor of the garlic wasn't too strong but definitely evident and tasty. The Garlic Naan at the south location tasted a tad strange and wasn't as flavorful as the one in the north location, but that may just be an anomaly. My entree was the Dhaba Mutton Curry. You can't say no to bone-in goat. I try to eat different things at restaurants, but after loving it the first time, I had to get it again. The bone-in goat meat is truly tender with occasional pieces of fat. You can really separate the pieces with a spoon. The curry sauce is delicious with just the right consistency to bind with the rice. This dish opened my eyes to the world of goat meat. Seriously. So good. The entree also came with saag paneer (similar to creamed spinach). I don't often rant about vegetables, but this stuff is super delicious. Mix it in with the rice or just eat it by itself, I just can't have enough of it. Can we get endless refills on this? I wanted to ask our waiter, but wimped out. There is an issue with their service though. In the south Austin location, there were only 4 tables with customers, including mine. However, the service was especially slow, specifically after the meal. After showing the waiter our voucher, he put it back down on the table and left. 15 minutes would then go by until they took our voucher again and returned with our check. Coriander: I am generally not a fan of buffets, unless someone else is paying of course. I have stopped by here in the long past, when it was a Brazilian restaurant and later another Indian restaurant. I was not really too impressed until it transformed into a new Indian style restaurant. They have a daily and a weekend buffet. So I have given it a few tries. I have had just about everything they have and it is good and this means a big positive from a non-buffet person. The food was under spiced for me, but would appeal to a broader customer base. The Butter Chicken was excellent as was the Saag Paneer while the Tandoori Chicken was a bit dry (in all fairness, unless eaten immediately after preparation this dish tends to dry fast). The buffet has a lot of typical dishes that you would expect in an Indian restaurant and not too spicy for someone who is not used to Indian type food that can really bring the heat. Next time I will order a specific dish on or off the regular menu so I can see what is prepared spicy from the start when I order spicy so as to make sure it is not akin to those places who just add some hot sauce after the fact. The restaurant and bathroom were very clean and the staff performed their tasks plesently and were quite friendly. I recommend giving it a try and also see what they can prepare individually. It is a bit tricky to get to on the access road, but is in plain view just as you go past. You may have to do a go around. We showed up at 6 pm expecting a buffet, like dummies. Well, we've only ever had the buffet there, each time we aimlessly strolled in. And everything was always so delicious, I must say, we consistently overate, and always had a hard time getting back to the car. Anyway, we decided to sit down and order from the menu. We ordered the first thing I saw, the "Royal Feast for Two" under Chefs Recommendations for $44. The samosas came out first. They were crunchy on the outside, warm and moist on the inside. Not sure what was in them. The ambient lighting was too dim to see... and also we inhaled them. But they were great, topped with a little of the imli and hari chutney dipping sauces that came with the flat, crispy complimentary papadum before we ordered. We waited for what felt like 10 minutes before the rest of our order all came out at once. The basmati rice was speckled with peas and did a fantastic job of ensuring all the wonderful sauces made it to our mouths. The tandoori chicken, your standard bright red, roasted chicken, was a little dry, but I've actually come to expect that at any Indian restaurant. And, anyway, we fixed it by asking for extra tikka masala sauce, which I then shamelessly slathered on everything. Good lord, that is good stuff. Our waiter didn't skimp, either. We got a hardy bowl of it; I was not left wanting. The ajwaini jhinga, which was grilled shrimp marinated in ajwain, was good too; maybe a little overcooked, but I'd rather have it over than under. The salmon tikka was actually a bit fishy for me; that dish came home with us in a to-go box. To give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe I'm just not used to ordering seafood in an Indian restaurant. (Pffff, it's not like India is anywhere near water ;-)) Jk. .....Then again, Austin is nowhere near water... Hmm.) The tandoori chicken, salmon tikka, and ajwaini shrimp all came on the same sizzling plate, and there were two of each. The lamb bhuna was hardy and very well spiced-- maybe a little over spiced for me (not hot spice, just spice spice), but still very good and my husband loved it. He scarfed most of it down. The saag paneer (green spinach and paneer cheese) was faaaantastic. Oh, and what I thought was naan turned out to be onion kulcha-- delicious nonetheless. I have to be honest, we didn't touch the tosi-tosa cucumber salad or the mint raita yogurt. We just couldn't spare the room. We also skipped on dessert. Both the host and our soft-spoken server were very good at keeping our water glasses full throughout the night. And although a couple of the items may have not been absolutely perfect to me, I can't deny that it was an explosion of Indian flavor that I've been hankering for for weeks and any imperfections were overlooked with the help of the couple of drinks I had before we left the house. On the car ride home, I remember saying, "That was sooo good... I wish I was still eating it." And my husband said, "we need to eat there more often and support places like that!" Have you ever gotten such a great deal that you left a place wondering what you missed? Like do I have a kick me sign on my back? Were you testing prescription drugs on me without my knowledge? There are a whole plethora of things that could have been happening while I was gorging on delicious curries and cups of sinful mango pudding. Oh and did I mention that for a limited time the weekday lunch buffet is only $4.95? I'm seriously waiting to get sick or something. Who lets you eat a buffet full of amazing food and only charges you $4.95?! The Saag Paneer was so so good that I had to get seconds. There was some sort of fried spinach that had the most flavorful batter on it that I may have ever tasted. The Tikka Masala had huge chunks of tasty chicken and the sauce was seasoned perfectly. And the mango pudding....oh the mango pudding. I'm not sure what's in it...or how they make it...but it's probably illegal in at least 30 states. It's that good. I would pay the $4.95 just for the pudding. Service was outstanding, too....but I wasn't paying much attention to that...and didn't have to because my water was always full. My only suggestion would be to put out more than one container for naan. New owners and not for the better! I came here two months ago and it was busy and had a great, diverse buffet. I came recently not knowing it had been under a new owner for just four days. I brought my wife thinking she would have the same positive experience I had earlier. I was wrong and it has provoked an existential crisis. Can I trust anyone or anything? What was so good had become so bad in a blink of an eye. Half the dishes in the buffet, most dishes not identified or with hand scrawled placards. Mystery flavors and floors as sticky as rodent glue traps. Only one employee greeted us and appeared to be working; two others glared at us from the shadows. My wife and I really enjoy Indian food and she suggested we give this place a try. So, we went here with another couple and really enjoyed place. Our party enjoyed a variety of dishes including tiki masala, tandoori chicken, green curry, saag and Manchurian. The garlic naan was very good as were our entrees. Although the service was a little slow at the beginning, actually painfully slow, the staff finally got it together and spot on by the end of the meal. The insider tip is the spicy margaritas. WOW. Just... WOW. My husband and I came in not sure what to expect, but let me just say we left happy and satisfied. Truly a deal for $15 ($4.95 lunch buffet and $6.95 dinner buffet for a limited time!). I started with a nice little assortment of veggies with a tamarind chutney sauce. Very sweet and tangy (my kind of thing). The rice pilaf was cooked perfectly. It complemented rather well with the tikka masala and bombay aloo. The bombay aloo is my all-time favorite. Very delicious. The coconut cabbage was pretty great, as well. If you're a vegetarian, this place is great at accommodating your preferences. The service was very welcoming and they always made sure our drinks were full and there wasn't a mess at our table. High fives for that! We ended our meal with their mango pudding. I swear, it has to be pure mango blended into a pudding concoction. I didn't taste anything else other than pure mango flavor. And it was the NATURAL kind of mango, no artificial nothing. My companion is a slow eater in general, but here he scarfed down his food. He looked like the cookie (veggie?) monster eating the pakoda. Crumbs and all. I had paneer khandati (I might have spelled that wrong), it was a nice tomato-buttery dish, which I plopped on top of basmati rice and ate with roti bread. I recommend going for the naan instead. I'm not a fan of roti in general, and today wasn't any different. I'm sure if you like roti you'll like it. Naan is just NAAAAAAAAAN. A nice fluffy cloud of carbs. Ok... Companion had a goat curry dish. He said it was good. Drank their mango lassi-- not too sweet, which is good. Staff was professional and polite. Just know to pay up front! Hell, if you can make cauliflower taste good your doing something right! Now a new contender has emerged replacing the we're scared and bailed north Brazilian steakhouse. Don't expect much in the way of remodeling as they added some booths on the south wall. Our visit details the lunch buffet for $8. Forget the review that was pissed that they missed the $5 price; whiners. We've heard that the chef from Bombay left his post and ventured over to Royal India. Quality for the most part was abundant for our visit. We sampled the entire line; good spinach pakoras with decent basmati rice. Mrs. Rooster loves veggie dishes and I admit with various curry's added they are quite delicious. Chana paneer with chickpeas, Shrimp paneer with a dark curry, yellow curry lentils, and vibrant tomato soup. Naan with extra burned spots please! Amazing flavors aside service issues were noticed during our visit. My beverage of choice (tea) stayed empty without coaxing from the staff. I consumed two plates of bliss; but not one server noticed we were ready for our check. I have half hearted hope for Royal India; bad location on a frontage road in south central Austin might claim another victim. Very good Indian luncheon buffet. Everything was fresh and tasty. The Dhosa bar is a nice treat too. This place is a tad more expensive than others, but well worth it. Good service, fairly reasonable prices, what's not to love? Indian food has improved in Austin quite a bit in the last 20 years. Restaurants are cleaner and nicer to eat in. Their Vegetarian Sampler dinner is marvelous. 2 of us shared it and had an excellent batch of leftovers the next day. Their Nan Bread is above average, as is all their food. During a midweek evening dinner, we enjoyed the food very much and service was totally fine (despite prior complaints of service expressed by others). This is a "preliminary" review from one visit. I will post a full review after our next visit. But I am encouraged by this one month old newcomer and want others to try ROYAL INDIA. I give it a solid 8 out of 10, based on three entrees and side dish of paratha bread. Entrees were lamb peshari, chicken korma and saag paneer. The lamb was ordered super hot and the other two mild, and they got that right. Quality of lamb and chicken was fine, fairly moist. Portion size was fine (maybe a little light on chicken dish for $13 but a lot of lamb for $15). Environment comfortable, service attentive. There was a good amount of flavor in all dishes. The korma sauce was creamy as expected but was missing something, maybe more cashew or almond presence. Rice was perfect, moist with a few green peas. Bread was dry whereas normally paratha is fried and a bit greasy with ghee on top. i actually liked it the drier way. Three dishes plus bread was $44 before tip. No liquor license yet. Long story short: very good food, poor/mediocre service. The location is easy to miss, and if you do, it's a bit of a pain to go back around, but the food was definitely good. When we showed up on a Sunday night at 8, the restaurant was mostly empty except for one other table. The bus boy (I'm pretty sure he was the bus boy) greeted us quickly, sat us right away and brought us waters pretty quickly. After that is when service started to take a dive. I'm pretty sure they only had one waiter working, and he was in the back doing something. I don't know if the bus boy told him he was sat, but it took him 10 minutes to come out and greet us at the table. By that time we were definitely ready to order. The food came out fast and was very good. We ordered a paper dosa, and the chicken tikka masala. Both were excellent. I was afraid I might still be a little hungry, so ended up adding an order of veggie samosas. In the end, it turns out we would have had enough food without ordering the samosas, but they were quite tasty. Through all of this, no one bothered refilling my water for most of the meal, and it was empty quite quickly. Ordered the Kheer (rice pudding) for desert, and again, tasted great. In the end, I gave the place three stars because the food was awesome, but the service for sure could use improvement. I love competition, and surely the greatest contest to participate in must be the quest to find the best lunch buffet you can. Royal India is a particularly strong contender, as it has an excellent and reasonably priced buffet with many fine options, that rotate out so you can sample a large number of different items on different visits. Here are some of the ones I've had and liked: - malai kofta (vegetarian dumplings in a curry sauce) - aloo beans (seasoned potatoes and vegetables) - goat curry (very tender and not too stringy, with a good flavor to the curry) - zucchini jalfrazi (a thicker, spicier sauce that goes great with the eggplant) - medhu vada (tasty deep-fried lentils in a donut shape) - spinach pakora (fried spinach leaves with a deliciously addictive coating) - several types of chicken (e.g. butter, tikka masala, and tandoori, of which their tandoori chicken is some of the best I've ever had, much moister and more flavorful than a lot of other restaurants) - the obligatory fresh naan - for dessert, rice pudding and gulab jamun (balls of fried dough in hot honey) All of that food is great, but, as they say: wait, there's more! Their buffet also features a dosa station, where a gentleman will concoct you a gigantic dosa (the Indian equivalent of a crêpe, made with rice and lentils) with a seasoned potato and vegetable filling. Their dosas are the size of dinner plates and go great with both the mint and sriracha chutneys. This buffet will run you $9 on weekdays and $11 on weekends, and it is well worth it, especially with that dosa station, which quite frankly makes trailers like Nomad Dosa obsolete. Their staff is also quick, competent, and friendly, willing to chat about the food and make recommendations. I haven't yet ordered from their full dinner menu, but as soon as I can tear myself away from the siren song of their noontime deals I plan to. This currently has a slight edge over nearby places like Bombay Bistro and Pakwan for the title of my favorite Indian lunch buffet in southwest Austin, much as I love those 2 other fine places. Came here for dinner on a weeknight, and pretty much come back weekly now... and by weekly I mean we order it for delivery. We ordered plain or Masala Dosa, Both are AMAZING. Everything is always excellent, and I had no points of improvement for the food. The only warning I have is the Veg Biryani is different sometimes, I think different people make it. Either way is delicious, just differs slightly. Portions and quality we perfect and reasonably priced. If you want a dessert the Kheer is what dreams are made of. We will always be back! read more

A great lunch buffet place. I think most of the negative reviews are for the dinner side of things, which I've never tried (since apparently there is no dinner buffet). Even so, the location is easier to get to from downtown than it is from my house, and I work downtown...so lunch it always will be for me. The location is tough, and you have to know it is there really to find it. It is basically on your far right on the service road after you exit Brodie heading west on 290, where the old Brazilian steak house used to be. I've been to this place for lunch about 5 times now, and only once (which was late in the "buffet day") was the food "average". What I like is that the food has flavor, it is not the bland stuff Clay Pit throws out. It has some spice to it. Not overly spicy, but there's actual flavor even on the buffet. Usually Thai and Indian buffets make it bland for "everyone"...this place doesn't do that. But you spicy eaters out there...don't get confused that this is going to be hot...it's not hot. I usually do the Chicken Tikka Masala, and here this was very good. There are usually different beef or chicken buffet selections, but Chicken and Vegetable Tikka have been there every time I've been. There are about 8 entree items in the buffet, so not just a one or two dish place. There's a lot of fruit on the salad bar, and it's pretty tasty stuff as well. I've not tried the deserts (too full every time), but I hear they are decent sweet tooth things as well. As I was there at buffet time, service wasn't really an issue, but we got seated right away. Royal India has a great buffet, but an even better dinner. The trick to this restaurant is the owner/manager who checks on the customers once or twice every visit in order to perfect the food. The buffet lunch is great... hands down the best in Austin... but the dinner is perfected for the individual and obviously has better ingredients. I had the Shrimp Saag, a dish that I had honestly never heard of before finding it on the dinner menu at Royal India. The only downside to it is it's location... not that the location is bad, but that it's kindof hard to find and if you pass it by, you have to loop back around (which feels like forever) to get back to it. Use your GPS to make sure that you get in the first time. You won't be disappointed here. Great staff, great food... easily 5 stars. read more

I'd wager that the food is better than most. Yeah yeah, I know....it's the same ol' same ol' but really, it was pretty good. We had the feast for two which turned out to be for three when we were stuffing the leftovers into to-go boxes. Point is; I recommend it. So, I was excited to see on my drive home that the Brazilian steakhouse moved along (though I did hear it was good) and moving in was a new Indian restaurant. I think they just opened last week and the first time I saw the sign I sent a text to all of my coworkers. $4.95 weekday lunch buffet for a limited time! We would never miss an opportunity like that! We went today and it was really good! They have a great selection of different dishes - all of the standards that you would expect and a few unexpected items like a goat dish with cinnamon which was delicious! We went on a Friday at lunch, the news is out about the place, it was PACKED! Overall the food was great but the service with regards to the host was horrible. He took names but didn't announce the names clearly before moving on and someone jumped the line and took my spot. Also had to ask him 3 times for the check. Growth pains... The food was great but since it was so busy the Beef Vindaloo and Chicken Tikka Masala had no meat in the serving trays most of the visit. Also the naan runs out so fast, but they tried to keep up. A fellow patron and I were chatting in the buffet line and he says, "how could anyone not like Indian food?" Well, my own journey to appreciating Indian food was halted because I thought all Indian food tasted like Clay Pit. I had to fall in love with Ethiopian food and have a friend convince me to give Indian food a try again before I found my way back. If you may in in the midst of such an Indian food crisis, a buffet is always the best way to figure out what you like and don't, and the lunch buffet at Coriander would be especially helpful, since it is fantastic, very long, and is available in the weekends too! Plus they almost always have samosa and biriyani on the buffet. Score! And always two deserts. While I may the prefer the saag at another place or think the dessert is better someplace else, Coriander delivers overall in ways other places fail. I like that it is relatively quiet, the staff is very friendly, great location, interesting items on the buffet and can't discount the inclusion of samosa on the buffet, that's probably my favorite part! read more

I also came on June 8th for dinner. The food was super tasty. I was excited that they called out the difference between the non-veg, veg and vegan options which would have made it a great option for a group of vegetarians and non-vegetarians. BUT.... They were woefully understaffed. The waitstaff was definitely hurrying about but food just wasn't coming out. It took a long time for someone to ask us about what we'd like to drink, even longer to get the drinks out to us. We came in at about 6:55 PM (seated immediately). At 8:10 our food still hadn't arrived. I sent my husband and son home so the kid could get something to eat at home and get to bed and once I saw the waiter I asked him to change the order to To Go. I walked out of there with my tasty food at about 8:25 and walked home. The food is worth it. The management needs to get their staffing situation (training and more bodies in the kitchen and/or the floor). I'm going to give it another try later, maybe just call in an order to go. If the food is as good as I remember it (maybe I was just really friggin' hungry), then MAYBE I will give it another shot after I hope they've worked the kinks out. If they strike out again, it's back to Tarka for us. read more

Awwww!!! the buffet priced just went up as of 6/13/12! but on the other hand, the food is reasonably good for their lunch price. They have a clean row of trays of delicious plates against the kitchen wall and a middle dessert/fruits/sauces buffet in the middle. The good parts: its clean, it has great flavor and good variety. The areas for growth, the dessert selection, no salad, service and naan. The pakodas were very nice and crisp. The rice pilaf was fluffy and simply seasoned. Could use more variety... The spinach paneer was creamy, delicious. They had chicken curry, moist, melted in your mouth. The tandoori chicken a bit too on the dry side. They also had masala and another yellow concoction (cauliflower its my guess) that were also very nice. Beans, and tomato soup. They had rice pudding, super sweet, very coconutty, w almonds. As for the service, they sat us quickly, came out to pour our initial drinks. But, since it is buffet time,did not show up to put up our used plates, so we had to pile them around the table and eventually moved them to a different one. They had brought us more water once again closer to dining end, with plenty ice spill....which created our own tableside pool. And again, being a new place, isnt there usually a manager or owner visiting and making sure everything is great? or at least making sure their staff would come by, tipping time was hard... When I go to eat at Indian places, I become really critical of the naan~ as I consider it the indian tortilla....the pieces I took, had more than usual burnt portions, the consistency was the regular one, but could use a bit more punch as for flavor. I was really excited to finally have a new indian place close to the house. Their actual menu seems to be very extensive. Maybe will try one of their dishes next time, instead of buffet. read more

The lunch buffet was pretty good at a reasonable price. Very tasty chicken and moist rice. Salad bar choices could be better and the naan and lentil soup went quick but will go back and try again. Great coconut curry chicken and the chicken breast was awesome! read more

Three quick things I didn't care for with this place: 1) No buffet during dinner hours 2) Location- not that it was out of my way, but that it's hard to see/notice, which means it probably won't last long 3) Naan had to be ordered separately Other than that, Royal India made for a great Saturday date night location. At most Indian places, my favorite is the chicken tikka masala, but I didn't find that on this menu. However, the waiter was great in helping me locate what was the same dish, only a different name (chicken makhani). The food came out extremely quickly. It was very hot, had a nice presentation, and tasted fantastic! We were served one big bowl of rice to share and our chicken makhani was served in two separate bowls. There was plenty for left overs, so don't fear sharing one serving of this specific dish. The waiter was even nice enough to bring us an extra basmati rice to go at no charge so there would be enough to have with our chicken makhani. The atmosphere is nice there- quiet, dim lighting, pretty decor. I don't think I'd go here with the kiddos though...perhaps at lunch to be able to try a variety of foods. read more

Buffet price is now up to 7.99. Not bad really. The selection is not big, but that is true for most Indian food buffets. Selection comparable to Clay Pit and Bombay Grill. I don't like most of their dishes because the flavor tend to lean toward and sour side. Its not the the food is bad sour. It is just more sour flavor in the mix. Perhaps too much lemon grass for my liking. The beef meatball dish was great, with very tender meat and creamy curry. Their Nann however was blackened. I would say 90% of the Nanns were burnt. I don't know if this was done on purpose but I don't like it. And also they are covered up by the buffet tray so it is pretty soggy as well. I am a big fan of Nann so this does not make me happy. From the look of it though they place is pretty comfortable and service is passable. If you ordered instead of getting the buffet, your food might be better and the Nann maybe presented closer to its original form. And from what I can see their ingredients are of good quality. So overall I would say a slightly above average Indian restaurant with some upside. Its worth a gamble. read more
