Our office ordered Spice for lunch today and was really feeling some saag paneer. It's become my go to dish to order at Indian restaurants because I can make ok butter chicken/tikka masala at home, but this is something I have yet to master. The saag paneer is definitely more concentrated spinach than others that I have had, but it's plenty flavorful, without the spinach flavor being overwhelming. You'll need some rice/naan to go down with it and the naan has great chew. Sop it all up! They do a fine rendition of all the food, so it definitely hits the spot. I keep thinking because I'm eating vegetarian, I won't feel heavy afterwords, but I guess that's not true. Oh well, nothing like an afternoon nap. read more

Do I recommend this restaurant, despite its delicious cuisine and affordable prices? That's a hard NO. Spice Fine Indian Cuisine is a diamond (surely some of the best Indian food I have eaten in Austin) ... or a chunk of coal. Let me put it another way... I waited to see if I got sick before I wrote this review. For perspective, I grew up in Mexico. I'm not easily frightened away, but I can spot red flags. First thought upon arrival: "So glad I checked their health score on Yelp." See Spice Fine Indian Cuisine (95 out of 100). Upon closer inspection, Spice Fine Indian Cuisine (aka AG's Spice, aka Pushpa) has an abysmal record. In fact, this restaurant is simultaneously operating under three different names and has three different Yelp pages. Please see my photos to review their Food Establishment Inspection Scores from Austin's Open Data Portal. A score of 58 just last year would be considered poor and would indicate that the restaurant has had multiple critical violations, such as issues with food handling, storage, or cleanliness. In Texas, the lowest health rating a restaurant can receive is an F, or a score of 70 or below. This is a travesty, because the food really, truly was delicious, and their offerings are fascinating. If this place were truly cleaned up, it could easily become the toast of the town... it was that good. They specialize in Hyderabad cuisine- something I know nothing about - but they also serve many of American's favorite dishes, such as curry, or Tikka Masala. Red flags: - The man who came to our table to "check" on us was so unkempt that it was remarkable. His hair had not seen shampoo for a very long time. I speculate that he was one or all of the following: owner, manager, chef. - Tables and menus had been wiped clean with a very greasy cloth or sponge. The glass top was streaked everywhere. - Bits of dried old food on supposedly clean dishes (we were handed a stack of dinner plates, and two of them had them). I imagine that they use an industrial dishwasher, so I wasn't alarmed. Still... - We were the only people in the place for two hours (5-7pm) on a Saturday, which happened to be the restaurant's Happy Hour, according to their website. - A very dead potted plant right next to reception. - Three restaurant name changes? - We were seated in a booth which was not flush against the wall. One thing common about Indian restaurants in Austin is that they almost always disappoint. Chole bhature was served with a completely flat bhatura. Are you kidding me? If it comes out flat, you fry another one so you can serve it puffed up as it's meant to be. Chole were ok, a little spicy but otherwise okish to eat. Malai kofta was decent. We really only should have got the falooda as it was very authentic with vermicelli, tutu frooty, sabja and pista flavor - yummy! Doordashed this. Should have checked the reviews on yelp instead of relying on the ones from DoorDash. Garlic naan tasted like it was store bought... so dry, and the garlic on top was completely overwhelming. The chicken was not good, we both separated the sauce which did not taste bad and mixed it with the rice. Rice was okay, it's difficult to mess up rice. All in all not eat the naan, ate around the chicken, rice was okay. If you're looking for some good quality Indian food check out Tandoori Lounge! They never do us wrong there. Not much of a wait for a Saturday, several to go orders. I started with samosas chicken and they were delicious, I inhaled them and were very tasty. I added pepper chicken which was very tender. Service was sort of hit or miss even with it being a slow night. I had to wait for water to be filled. The place was going through renovations as some of the floors had dents from where old items were. At least I hope that's what it was. Chicken kebab was not what I was expecting. I expected it to be soft and tender and it was very thick and tough to bite into but it was cooked well. I'd prefer to go for the appetizers if I go back next time. read more

Very prompt seating, separate steam tables for vegetarian vs. meat selections at the buffet lunch, water glasses kept full, wide variety of choices. Not only do they open late, their food is delicious! I highly recommend the chicken korma. It was perfect in every way with the creaminess and flavoring. I also tried the chole bhatura. It was good but not my favorite place to get it here. I normally get vegetarian samosa but decided to try chicken samosa. Personally, I like the vegetarian samosa more. Their garlic naan was good too. They also have Indian flavoring for their icecream. My one complaint is that for two scoops and one cone, it was $8. It's a bit expensive, but was yummy. read more

This restaurant is goofy. When you sign into uber eats, you would see Spice fine restaurant and Ags spice fine restaurant. I ordered through spice fine restaurant and went to pick up the order. They said that restaurant belongs to the previous owner. My money is gone. I logged a request for refund with uber eats. I've not received it yet. They are stealing money. Stealing money in disguise of serving food is a sin. Hopefully they would get punished for all of their sins. The food at spice Indian is cuisine is very flavorful and delicious! All of the ingredients pair perfectly together with all the dishes I tried. I got an order of the fish tiki masala, lamb korma, and an order of the veggie samosas. I thought the veggie samosas packed quite a punch with them on the spice level. One thing this restaurant does need to work on is their ambience and appearance. This seems to be more of a take out spot. I went on a Friday night and I was the only one dining in. The tables, chairs, and flooring were all a little dated. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. If you are looking for delicious Indian food to this is definitely your spot! read more

We ordered chicken tikka masala and chicken saag, and both were pretty good. They actually made for even better leftovers the next day. My biggest concern was the subpar service with my recent to-go order. I ordered through their online portal and received a confirmation that my order would be ready in 25 minutes. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was told that my order was still being prepared. Not a big deal. A few minutes later, they told me and another customer that it'd be another 3-4 minutes. His order came out quickly, but mine? It took another 25 minutes. I waited for my to-go order for over 30 minutes, an hour after I'd placed it online! There weren't any guests dining in, and a few other to-go orders were picked up while I waited. I really don't know the cause for the delay, but I wish they'd kept me updated on how long it would take. read more

I am a vegetarian by dietary preference. The vegetarian dish I ordered came with chicken in it. During my last visit, the plate had worms in it (in hindsight, I should not have given them another chance by visiting again). I hope some authorities carry out an inspection and teach them a lesson. Have done buffet and ordered takeout over the last few months. Buffet was really good! More variety than I expected. Lots of vegetarian options and decent meat options. Buffet Biryani was the low point of this meal which is a shame as I love Biryani. the overuse of seasoning made this dish inedible. But I've had Biryani from here before and it wasn't bad so it must just have been that day. Takeout has been good - came fast and they give decent portions. Butter chicken is delicious and so is Chicken Chettinad for something slightly different. Overall, a good option for decent Indian food in this area. read more

I've wanted to try this place out for a while now, so when I got a chance, I was excited! The outside and it's plaza are nice, however when I stepped inside, it was not what I expected. The place was small and cramped, and no real direction on what to do once seated. We had no waiter and had to ask the hostess if this place was buffet or menu based. The buffet had almost nothing left and what little was there looked dried out and has been sitting for a while (I wish I had taken a photo). It took nearly 30 minutes before the cooks restocked the buffet! There weren't any drinks available so we had to ask for room temperature bottled water. Maybe we caught this restaurant at a bad time or day (Sunday at 1:30pm) and this isn't how they usually operate. It did look like they may have been renovating the space, but regardless, I don't believe I will be back. read more

On a rainy day, Spice Fine stands tall and proud in the HEB strip mall. The restaurant is welcoming and the staff are all friendly and efficient. Only thing was that the space between tables down the middle of the room is a bit tight. If you're sitting with your back to another table, you better hope no one is sitting right behind you, or else your chairs will be battling for real estate. We ordered the garlic naan, goat tikka masala, and the fish vindaloo. You can walk into 5 Indian restaurants and get naan cooked 6 different ways. The naan here is thin and nicely crispy. The garlic is cooked just right, where it's near the point of burning, but the flavor is good and strong. The goat is bone-in and the meat is wonderfully tender with a nice amount of fat. Quantity is pretty good as well. The tikka masala is delicious and at a spice level of 3, is the perfect amount for me where it makes me sweat a bit. But of course, YMMV. I only had a few bites of the fish vindaloo, but the fish was tender and breaks apart easily. Definitely a place I would frequent whenever the Indian food cravings kick in. read more

I went to this place yesterday for the first time they serve there lunch from 11-3pm we got there at 2:30pm had no idea that they were about to close but when we walked in we were greeted properly and still treated right in most restaurants they try and rush you out so they can get off but they were very attentive here the buffet has a lot of options from meat selections and vegetarian selections so plenty of options I got the tofu paneer and the Chile chicken with veggie rice the tofu paneer was very good it was my first time trying it and it was very excellent my absolute favorite was the Chile chicken it had a good spice level on it and I love spicy so it was very fulfilling in every way the rice was cooked properly and had good flavorful also they made sure to keep up with our refills Great customer service will definitely be coming back !! read more

Ugh I wish some places could take Covid seriously enough. Staff was "wearing" masks around their neck, takeout orders were being touched by everyone to check your name, there was no sign of hygiene or safety. The food was packaged poorly - gulab jamun was leaking in the bag, bag itself was super oily on the outside by whoever must've packed. There was no cutlery or even a napkin provided. And then they charge $15 an entree. It's not a "budget" place to be so stingy on service. Generally, chhole bhature is served with some onions or at least a wedge of lemon - nothing here. The chhole bhature (spice level 2) is our one consistent item that we come here for because they serve the real thing, not a puri. But the overall experience is terrible - from a hostess who knew nothing, was of zero help with questions, and overwhelmed each time the phone rang, to the careless way they provided the takeout food. One of the best Indian places I've been to in a while. All the dishes had great flavor and loved the tikka masala. The service was efficient and got our whole Order right. The only reason we didn't give 5 stars is the naan needs improvement. It was very chewy and bready. The Ambience: This place is so dirty that you don't feel like even sitting at a place like this. There are openings in the ceilings, floor is sticky and tables are so dirty that look as if they weren't cleaned since ages. We are the only people to dine in on a Saturday evening, that should have set my expectations but I still decided to stay and order, big mistake. Menu: This is the most limited menu for an Indian restaurant I've ever seen. You'd be out of ideas on what to order here. Food: Based on the menu and restaurant appearance, I did get a doubt that anything would be fresh. I've ordered a Chola Bhatura as it is an item that they've to be doing right then and you can't generally go wrong with that item. We've also ordered a boneless chicken biriyani along with it. And the item arrived.. A super flat and crispy bhatura! I don't understand how can they serve such thing to a customer. If they can't make it they should remove it from the menu. And it costs friggin 16$ ! The Chicken bones-less biriyani is tasteless and bad. We left out both the items. And have mentioned the Owner about how the bhatura was and she didn't care to respond or react. She was like ok. This place is a trap. They know how the place and food is and don't wanna change anything with it. Just the new customers who want to give a shot will be fooled. Easily one of the worst Indian restaurants I've been to in states. PS : There is a kwality ice cream store right next to this, we went in and saw that the same person operating that store as well. Extremely creepy vibe in here. The food was okay. The service was terrible. We had to chase down the waiter and we were the only customers in there. There were literally about 4 employees just sitting around trying to figure out how to work the tv. Our cold empty plates just sat on the table never to be cleared. The waiter would only speak to my husband. Not me or my mother in law. Then when it came time to pay, the waiter just stood there hovering waiting for my mother in law to sign her receipt. Very good food and nice service. Went here on the Halloween eve, it was less crowded and we were seated right away. We ordered Cut Mirchi, garlic naan, bullet naan, okra curry, chicken biryani and mango lassi. All of them were very tasty. The cut mirchi quantity is quite a lot. The owner should consider reducing the quantity and price both. The biryani quantity is a lot too and it was very yummy. If you can't handle spice, stay away from bullet naan. It is crazy spicy.
