We've been here a couple times now, on a Sunday and Saturday for lunch and it has yet to disappoint. It's one of those places that's reliable and feels pretty consistent, knowing you're going to leave happy and full after eating here. The two times we've been there, theres always plenty of seating and are able to walk right in. It's a walk in and seat yourself experience and then you pay upon leaving. The staff keeps the dining area and buffet line consistently stocked and clean. They even provide hand sanitizer and gloves for you. Even when foot traffic picked up while we were there, the food was replenished quickly and didn't look picked over. Now let's talk food...Everything tastes fresh, well-seasoned, and like it was made with care instead of just being "buffet food" an under seasoned. The variety is also amazing, and it's easy to build a plate for pretty much any type of diet whether you're keto, high protein, balanced, veggie-forward, vegan, etc... Some of our favorite dishes we keep coming back for: Shredded beef (SO good), Baked fish (tender and not fishy), Garlic baked chicken (wonderful crispy skin), Fried chicken, Baked kafta, Kafta kebab, Gyro meat, Roasted cauliflower, Eggplant, Greek salad, Fatoush, Kale Caesar salad, Zaatar pizza, Cheese pizza (pro tip: top it with shredded beef- a life changing buffet hack), Rice with lentils, Rice with mixed veggies. For the quality, variety and amount of food you get, this is easily one of the best deals in the city! It's rare to find a buffet that's both affordable and consistently this good! If I had one small wish, it would be for desserts to match how strong the rest of the food is. They're not bad, just a little more "fine" compared to how amazing everything else is. I've seen another Dimassi's (I think in Cali) that had a frozen yogurt machine and I'd LOVE to see that here because it would be the perfect finish! Make a cup and then crumble up some baklava on it! In my family, we really like Demassi's. Not necessarily because everything there is amazing, but because there is genuinely something to please everyone. Between me, my husband, and my mom, we have a lot of overlap in what we like to eat, but we also have some pretty distinct preferences, and Demassi's is one of those places where that works. My husband really loves Middle Eastern / Mediterranean food. I generally do not. I tend to find the meats too dry, I don't particularly like the spice profile, and I also find a lot of dishes in that category to be overly sour. It's hard to explain, but there's often a sharp, tangy acidity that I don't enjoy. For whatever reason, I don't have that issue at Demassi's at all. Here my husband can get his fix of dry, spiced meats, while I'm happy eating from the huge selection of rice dishes, cooked veggies, and soups. As far as protein goes, I actually really like the fish here, so I almost never eat the meat and still leave satisfied. It usually feels like a healthy pescatarian day for me, which I like. Then there's my mom, who just loves the abundance and variety of a buffet. She's happiest when she can sample a little bit of everything, build plates with lots of small bites, and then go back for more. Demassi's is perfect for that. On top of all of this, it's very reasonably priced, especially for lunch or on weeknights. It's always clean, the staff is consistently courteous, and they are really on top of bussing tables, which matters a lot to me at a buffet. Dirty dishes piling up are never an issue here. OMG. If you like Mediterranean food, this buffet is not to be missed. For $19 for weeknight dinner buffet, including a drink, it is quite the bargain. Service is quick and the employees come by frequently to remove excess plates from your table. Food is very fresh and flavorful. The inside and restrooms are clean. Overall, the food was delicious especially the hummus and the chicken mansaf. However for some reason, the staff would clear out all dirty dishes on the table even when I'm not done eating so in some cases other diners would take the table previously occupied even if that particular diner is still eating which is strange since there's no indicator or marker to tell who is sitting where. read more

I haven't seen a Mediterranean buffet before, so I was excited to give this a try. The buffet includes drinks as well. The tamarind drink was good. They have freshly baked pita. The salads were fresh, and I enjoyed the beet salad in particular. We found some o the meats too dry (chicken, fried fish), but the ground meat options were good. So when you first walk in it is seat yourself, and you pay at the end. Everything is self service so only one person really walking around cleaning up the plates. The place is big and clean, which is great. The reason I'm giving a three stars is just because I didn't think the food was that great. The pricing was fine. It was $20 so no biggie. They had a great selection in the salad bar so be your vegetarian. It's great. Now I have to say the hummus to me tasted weird. It was sweet, so it was not my cup of tea at all. When it came to the selection of meat, yeah they had a lot, but they weren't that tasty. The only one I liked was the Gyro, which was the mix of lamb and beef. The other selections were a little salty or no flavor or too fishy. They did have some selection that was typical, which was fried chicken and pizza. I'm assuming mainly for the kids. I will say the soups were really good. When it came to the pita bread, it was mediocre not something I would grab again. I just had no flavor. And then they had the sweet selection which was OK. My first visit to DiMassi's and it won't be my last. I am always a little bit apprehensive about buffets with cleanliness and food safety, as well as food quality. They hit the marks on all of it. The place is absolutely spotless. The buffet items are continually being rotated out to ensure freshness. The selection is just incredible, and the food is so good. I LOVE the chicken soup so much. I like that there are a variety of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern salads, kebabs, dips, desserts, meats, and more. The nearer Dimassi's gets to Houston, the better a Dimassi's tend to be. Houston Dimassi's blow away Austin Dimassi's. The Stassney Dimassi's is much better than the 183 Dimassi's. I won't try to explain any of this. Altogether a pleasant buffet dinner. A coconut cake was superior - and so was the fresh hot pita that comes right out of the oven for your dip-like dishes. Everything else was "that's nice dear". In Houston, everything is "OMG I wanna fill my tray fifteen times!" I am going to guess there are more people who really know their Middle Eastern food in Houston than in Austin. That means a) the buffet has to perform for a much more demanding and knowledgeable clientele. b) there is a much larger supply of cooks who know how to do amazing things with Middle Eastern dishes. It's so clean, has lots of open space, the food is fresh, the service is so kind and welcoming...and the best part of the experience as a Muslim is you don't have to miss or skip any food because it's all Halal! My husband and I discovered this quaint little Mediterranean restaurant on William Cannon about 15 years ago. I'm not sure how long they had been open before that. They had a small but impressive buffet of Mediterranean options. I was pregnant and low and behold, all the salads became my 'cravings' along with this amazing hot tea that had cardamom. We came as often as possible while I was pregnant. I could eat my weight in their cucumber salad. Then I had a baby and all things changed. Fast forward to lots of life and moving out of Austin, we happened upon this place with the same name on Stassney. Crazy coincidence! There was no way that this was the same place. After I Googled to see pictures, it looked like the same as what I craved so many years ago. We had to try it, especially since that baby was 13 years old now. My first bite was a flashback to that time! This was the place that helped a pregnant mom satisfy her salad and tea cravings. I was so excited. We all loved it -bite after bite. So many more items were added but all of my favorites were still there. The buffet options were endless. Every time we come to Austin Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet is a must. With a large seating area, you walk in and seat yourself. You help yourself to your drinks, silverware, & plates. There are gloves for you to use and suggested but not mandatory. The buffet and tables are very clean. They are very attentive to taking plates from your table when you are done. Walk the line of the salads first. There are so many to chose from and all delicious. I can't help myself (since this is one of my favorite things) & I get a bit of all of them. That's it for a first plate and I only made it through the first section. Hummus, baba ganoush, and puddings, halva, tzatziki, garlic sauce, etc make the next section. I love how they take such pride in their dishes. They don't just throw things up on a buffet, they always beautifully decorate the dishes with spices, nuts, etc. Then come options of soup, rices, rice dishes with meats (lamb, chicken, beef), etc. There are plenty of vegetarian options as some of my favorites are the baked cauliflower that has this hint of lemon to it, baked eggplant, and falafel. The falafel isn't always the moistest but when it's good, it's great. There is gyro, fried fish, baked fish, chicken, pasta, cheese & za'atar spice pizzas, along with a freshly made hot pita bread that is delicious. Mine was so hot today, I burned my finger when I opened it. Delicious! There are so many different food options, I can't say them all. Next is your drink section. There are your sodas but then there is a sweetened saffron water which is delicious! It's also great with half saffron water and half lemonade. As I mentioned my favorite spiced hot tea is here as well. I think they must add cinnamon and cardamom as well now. Still one of my favs and it goes beautifully with the desserts. With only a few options, you don't need more. Honestly I really only eat the baklava which is flaky and syrupy. It's so perfect and I am so pleased they put such a great dessert on the buffet. I love that you can pack a to go container and if I lived here, I would do this weekly. I mean, Mediterranean food is actually even better when it's had time to become a leftover. Once done eating, you and your party go to the front doors where the cash attendant is and tell her how many in your party and then you pay. So reasonable for all the options and high quality food, drinks, and deserts. As you can tell, I am beyond pleased with this place. Anyone we bring or tell also loves this place. I have been a buffet hater my whole life because the idea of people reaching into food I will eat has terrified me. Dimassi's has cured me of that !! We have been to Dimassi's at multiple locations across Texas including Dallas and North Austin and have always had a positive experience. This South Austin location, however, was shocking. The manager at this location should either be given immediate customer service training or be replaced altogether. Her behavior should deeply concern the owner of this establishment. We visited with our 1-year-old and 4-year-old, and instead of being treated with basic respect, we were approached by Yari with rudeness, hostility, and an unmistakable look of disdain. She told us to put our children on chairs and implied they should not be walking around in a buffet restaurant, where customers are literally required to walk around to get food. The way she spoke to us was not only unprofessional, but felt confrontational, as if she was intentionally trying to provoke an argument. Her tone and demeanor felt targeted, judgmental, and humiliating. There was no politeness, no patience, and no empathy toward a family with small children. We were made to feel unwelcome and looked down upon, as though we did not belong there. This occurred after we had already spent a significant amount of money. No customer especially a family should ever be made to feel uncomfortable or singled out in this manner. If this is how management represents your business, then there is a serious failure at the leadership level. The owner should be ashamed that a manager feels comfortable treating paying customers with such disrespect and apparent bias. We will never return, will not recommend this location, and strongly warn other families to think twice before dining here. read more
