Our family was visiting Austin just as a winter storm was approaching. There was a freezing drizzle…read morein the morning but most of the afternoon was dry and the temperature was dropping. A lot of places were closing early so that staff can stay home until the storm passed. As such, we struggled to find restaurants with dine-in option. Thankfully our local friend suggested Kabobzi and we had a very pleasant late lunch. Our friend had the chicken shawarma pita sandwich whereas our family shared the lamb kebab platter with hummus, salad, and rice. It was plenty of food because it was a late lunch and we wanted to save space for dinner. The lamb was tender and flavorful. The complimentary pita bread was fresh, soft, and fluffy.

Kebablicious was at the top of the list so I made my way down. It was a cute little shack with an extended patio, an homage to its food truck roots and pretty no-frills. I took a look at their menu and decided to go with a beef & lamb wrap, which is what I was nostalgic for. Flavors wise it was ok-a little on the unseasoned/blander side; it didn't quite get those notes that I was looking for. Portion to value wise it fell a little flat as well. Fifteen bucks for a very skimpy pita, I thought 8 euro was a little steep but man, stateside prices are a whole other thing.

It had seasoned rice with some fried eggplant on top and a little side salad. I don't have much to say about the service or ambience because I was not the one that picked up the food. The food wasn't bad however it definitely wasn't my favorite. I think if I were to go again, I would get the falafel. The eggplant was okay but a little oily for my taste. That being said the rice was good, and I thought the salad was really interesting because it had pickles in it. I would still go here again, because there are multiple options for vegetarians. Next time I go I would try the falafel or the cauliflower and not the eggplant!

Why 4 stars? Because I had a halal itch and this kind of scratched it…read more --- --- --- I recently visited New York and every time I do that, I usually have to visit a halal cart. This time, I barely managed to squeeze one into my trip, and it was kind of a last minute stop from a food truck that wasn't even on Yelp. It was fine, but I was left yearning for more after barely getting a taste of it. Enter: my trip to Austin. Upon doing my food research, I was struck by Halal Time's great rating and couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit. I was staying in a hotel less than a mile away, which made it even easier to stop by. The result? I wouldn't say it fully hit the spot on what I'd remembered from old NYC trips, but I did enjoy it. I went with the Beef Shawarma Over Rice plate and it was a perfectly "good, not great" dinner.

It was the perfect amount. the chicken meal and baklava dessert was $17 which I felt was good price. My complaint. I preordered on door dash and picked up my order and 3 of my coworkers orders. I get a 30 min lunch and it takes me 8 min to get there and another 8 min to get so I should have had plenty of time. I go up to the window, tell him I'm here to pick up the order and he says door dash has not given him orders for 3 days. So my orders were not made. I had to call everyone to find out what they order and as I'm calling out the orders he's like oh yes I see them. Very confused as to how he has no orders but also has orders? There was construction and graduations going on that day so my commute was a little longer but he not having the orders ready also made me late.
