It's my first time having Georgian food so I didn't really know what to expect but the boat looked pretty cool so of course we had to try that! We got the beef, chicken, and also meat pie. There were also samples of the ideal cake and this was so good!! I want to get the full slice next time I come. The bread boat is like a better version of a pizza. The sauce and cheese are not mixed in yet and apparently you're supposed to mix them yourself and then dip the bread inside but I already devoured it all by the time I read the instructions LOL. It was still really good even without mixing. I'm normally not a fan of bread by itself but you can tell the sourdough is made fresh and you can see the staff rolling the dough. If I only had the meat pie, this would be 4 stars. The meat pie, while it is a big portion, it didn't have any sauce and tasted very salty. Bread boat is definitely the star! Love it. They have a kiosk to order from and the kitchen is open so the staff if right there to help you with the menu and you can see them making the boats. Everything was super cheesy, rich, and unbelievably satisfying. I also loved the plain cheese bread boat, sometimes simple is best, and the cheesiness plus that soft bread was amazing. I wasn't as much of a fan of the meat pie, though. The meat was a bit dry for my taste. Still, the bread boats alone made the meal totally worth it! Also should try their stew. I was across the street at Shaman when this place was mentioned. We decided to try it for lunch and, boy, we are so glad we did! It is a small but cute place with a nice patio that will be even nicer when the building next door is finished. You order at the counter which is easy and I didn't mind the lack of interaction with someone. There are just 2 busy ladies making everything from scratch in the back. We just ordered the original cheese boat with an extra egg to add some protein and then we got the meat pie. The boat was DELICIOUS! It was hot, cheesy and bready. All the things I wanted it to be. I'm not sure if had that kind of cheese before but it was really good! The spice in the meat pie was addicting and the house sauce was my favorite - get it! Get 2! I really enjoyed bread boat. It's the first Georgian restaurant I've come across in Austin and it's near where I work so I dropped by. The bread boats are of course what they're known for and they look AMAZING but honestly I could tell just by looking at the box it would be WAY too much food for me. I asked if they do a half size and they said no. Instead, I got a bowl of beef stew which comes with a couple pieces of the same bread. I had been having a lot of congestion all week and the soup ended up tasting perfect and being the perfect amount of food. It was also hearty but not too heavy so it sat really well with me despite being congested! And the bread compliments it so, so well. If I find myself really hungry and over that way, I will definitely try the bread boat some time! Just be ready for a LOT of cheese, carbs, and fat (ie heavy, but delicious). read more

Came here for lunch early on a Sunday afternoon. The service was fast and friendly. The indoor space is fairly small, we were able to get seats, but it can get overwhelmed with noise pretty easily. I was surprised at how much takeout business they seemed to have, cheese boats don't strike me as a food that would travel particularly well, but there was a pretty constant flow of noise as a result. If the weather is nice out I'd recommend opting for the outdoor seating I went for the herbed chicken boat and thought it was solid! The cheesy/eggy part worked really well, but I wish the flavoring on the chicken had been a bit stronger. The bread itself was good but had a pretty heavy dusting of flour that I wasn't a huge fan of for some bites I'm intrigued enough to want to come back and try the meat pies, but overall don't think it will be a regular in my rotation. Given the lack of Georgian restaurants in the area I'd recommend giving this a try if you live in the area, but if you're visiting from somewhere that has Georgian food I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to try here read more

I stumbled upon Bread Boat after wondering out of Radius Market on the opposite corner. When you enter you'll notice that the kitchen is setup like a bakery; they are kneading and shaping dough. To order in-person, you must go to the kiosk, tap swipe tap, and voilà, your order will be placed. You can also place an order on their Toast storefront. Upon placing your order, you'll wait around for a bit. Eventually, your food will come out. I ordered the savory beef version of their khachapuri to-go. It came in a small pizza box, and now I'm itching to go back and try more of their food. The fillings are savory, and the bread has a nice texture to it. The egg yolk ended up sorta like you'd find in a soft boiled egg, partially runny. Their food also smells amazing. read more

I could be wrong and there could've already been one but this excited me when they came across my search I haven't had a "khachapuri" since I visited Seattle a few years ago and this place more than satisfied my taste buds! We tried the Bacon bean boat and the veggie boat and both were phenomenal! I highly recommend trying the Ideal cake as well, very tasty and not too sweet. Left to my own devices, I'd inhale the entire thing myself. I kid you not. The house-made bread is baked to perfection in an old world homemade fashion. We both got a drink, my friend the Tarragon Mimosa and I had the Georgian House Red Wine. We both also ordered the Beef Stew Bread Boat. I added the House Hot Sauce on the side. Not going to lie, I'm not a raw egg type of girl but I wanted to try this cuisine/dish as it's meant to be. So delicious. The beef stew was tender and almost had a chili feel to eat but when you combine the raw egg and cheese by mixing it all together with parts of the bread bowl.. A creamy, warm, gooey creation was upon me! Loved every bite and ohhhh that house made pepper sauce had a great kick to it. Brought the Bread Boat to another level. We rarely step out of our comfort zone...but it is Cheese, meat and bread....Service was amazing and super friendly....Place is small and I will say parking is a bit tricky especially if you have anything larger than a sedan, but possible. We order the Boat with Meat and Cheese....Meat had a tomato forward sauce with some great flavor...Cheese was perfect and the bread was a great match....We literally finished the whole thing in one sitting. We only ordered 1 and it was plenty for 2 people...That sauce that came on the side was delishes and Very spicy...but very addictive...We also ordered some Rolls which is the same bread as the boat...would have been better warmed up, but still great....Lets talk Cake....probably one of the best desserts we have had...Walnut and Honey are a perfect match...just the right amount of sweetness....We would stop just to grab a couple of slice of cake. read more

Incredibly tasty! This was my first time trying Georgian food and I was thoroughly impressed. The restaurant has some unique items starting with the bread boats - i'll be comin back to try the stew and the meat pies for sure. For the bread boats, you mix it all up and eat it like a foundue. The owners/staff are very friendly. There isn't too much sitting but they have a small outdoor area as well. I split the savory beef Khachapuri with a friend, and it was SO good. The bread had that freshly baked and just out of the oven smell to it. We thought it would be tough to cut through with a knife because it had a pretty thick crust, but it was surprisingly fluffy while still having a lot of substance. I read that you're supposed to mix the butter and raw egg yolk together and then rip and dip pieces of crust in it, so that's what we did. It seemed like the half that had just the butter, egg, and cheese would be kind of plain and the half with the slow braised beef would be the star, but both were amazing! The beef side was spicier than I'd expected, so they played well together. There's enough seating inside for 16 max, but when we were leaving, I spotted a really cute covered patio on the side with about double that, which should be really nice now that things are cooling down. Orders can be placed on two self service screens at the front, but the staff is really friendly and up for answering questions. Highly recommend having a meal here and then popping into the beautiful market/butcher shop two doors over for some goodies after. read more

We came here with tepid expectations for a Sunday brunch and were completely blown away by the quality of the food. It is SO GOOD. You order from the electronic kiosk, and while we normally get annoyed being asked to tip those things, we saw everyone in the kitchen working hard, which softened our we-hate-to-tip-for-no-service hearts. While the inside is bright and open with a nice minimal and fun Georgian decor, seating is limited if you don't want to be outside. We were happy to get the last available table. The food comes out as soon as it's ready, which is to say not all at once. We got the beet salad first, and it was a cold and fresh start to the meal. We loved the pickled onions and the crunch contrast with the walnuts, and while we were worried the sour plum sauce might be too sweet, it wasn't. We HIGHLY recommend the karcho (beef stew), which was insanely delicious and absolutely bursting with spices and the perfect kick of heat--we only wish that it had more of that tender meat in it! We got the classic boat and it was gooey and heavy and all the things, but the sleeper hit is the cheese pie, which was even cheesier and had a better bread:dairy ratio. As for the honey cake, it was unexpected texture-wise--more like a chewy hardness that was very distinct, but we definitely enjoyed it. So, overall, you will roll out of here not wanting to get your cholesterol checked anytime soon. The folks behind the counter are super sweet and friendly, and the food, while slightly pricey, was worth every penny. This is really more like a 4.5 experience because some things could be improved (like bussing and cleaning), but we were absolutely tickled pink by this place, so we're rounding up. Bread Boat just reinforces our belief that the best places to eat in Austin are the most elevated casual spots. read more
