This review is specifically for the Coffeehouse portion of the restaurant. As a hotel guest at the Aloft, I was grateful for a spot to get some (much needed) nitro cold brew, and breakfast tacos (with a side of salsa)! Day 1 was beef brisket, and day 2 was pulled pork = both equally delicious. Fast, convenient and friendly service. read more

Nice place for brunch and lunch. Loved there cinnamon roles. A little too sweet for me but it was the most crispy and soft cinnamon role I ever had. They have specific menus for brunch, lunch and dinner so we waited for the lunch menu and tried the enchiladas and mushroom bolognese. Both were delicious! read more

Ventured in for an impromptu lunch and was provided with a solid meal. The restaurant interior was welcoming and the staff was accommodating and attentive. The wife and I shared a Bloody Mary, chicken and waffles and a side biscuit. All the items were executed just fine. The Bloody Mary wasn't too boozy or too thick. The waffles were fluffy and the chicken was crispy. The biscuit was standard if maybe not quite hot enough. There was nothing crazy memorable about the meal but I also wasn't left particularly wanting or disappointed either. read more

Best hotel based cafe I've ever been to. This one is inside the Aloft hotel and on the corner of Congress and 7. Right in the heart of where you want to be. The food options are awesome and there is a night life bar on the second floor where you check into the hotel. read more

We ate here twice on our trip to Austin. The brunch burger was delicious, but the French toast was a little too sweet. More like a cake than toast. Would be a great dessert. The restaurant was pretty full, but we had great service from Austin. Austin was probably the most attentive and polite server we had on the whole trip. Loved this new brunch place. One thing I didnt like was how it was so darkly lit, felt more like a dinner place than brunch. I ordered the feta spinah and cheese egg omlet, and it came with a side of breakfast potatoes and toast. The potatoes were salted perfectly and baked until they were well roasted. The toast and the omlet complimentd each other well, the omlet soft and buttery while the toast was crunchy and flaky. Hosted my sister's bachelorette party at this restaurant. Was met with a ton of hostility and rudeness by hostess staff over an error they made in communicating my seating arrangement. They were rude and unprofessional to the point that their interactions with us became the topic of conversation at our dinner. I would not support this organization in any way. You should treat people with kindness and not anger. In fact, throughout dinner we overheard hostesses talking negatively about our table and attendants. That is not appropriate nor okay for an establishment that presents as a must go to spot in Austin. Very disappointed in their hospitality and treatment of people. read more

Foods great but the coffee bar said they pull two shots. Then instantly added them to my coffee somehow, they are not fresh ground shots. So i paid $6.00 for a weak dark coffee that supposedly has two shots in it but taste like just weak coffee, come on people use some bean in that coffee and grind the shots fresh from espresso. This is a great restaurant with a bar and a full coffee bar...the menu is small but full of good choices! Our waitress Lizz was very helpful in describing each item on the menu and our coffee and dessert was very delicious. She was at our table filling our water glasses and answering any questions we had...she is a delight! Very nice manager as well. We definitely would come back!! read more

Caroline is hands down one of the best brunch spots in Houston. If you go, ask for Grant to be your sever! He is very personable and knows his stuff. You must get the Bombs Away cocktail. My friend and I were walking up and down Congress browsing for a good place to eat brunch. We found Caroline and decided to give it try. We were greeted with a smile by our host, Abraham. As we were looking over the menu at our table, Abraham came by with waters. Everything on the menu looked delicious, and we asked Abraham for recommendations. Shortly after, our waiter, Austin, took our orders. My friend had the avocado toast, and that looked amazing. She ordered a cinnamon role, but our waiter, Austin, was quick to let her know they were out of them. We both had the breakfast potatoes, since they came with my breakfast burger. All the food was great. We would definitely go back. Great food and service all around from our waiter and host. Both were very attentive and made sure we enjoyed our experience. About a week ago I listen to the chef/owner on the "she's my cherry pie " podcast and her passion and dedication to honoring her heritage and paying an affordable wage while being passionate about quality is impressive. $7.50 may be steep for a pastry but knowing the quality and effort that she puts into every item while paying affordable wages makes it understandable. Anyway, This time it was a must visit on a quick over night trip. I ended up not making it in till around 1230-1 so most stuff was gone but they had the seasonal strawberry sunflower seed concha which was what I wanted anyway. The Concha had a nice crispy outside with a soft airy inside, the jam wasn't too sweet and there was just enough sunflower to kiss your palate to let you know it was there. I would have loved to try other items but what I did try was top notch. Hope to make it by again for more tasty treats soon.

Vanilla Concha $6.00 As someone who can't have gluten, I was so so happy that they had gluten free options! The heirloom masa sugar cookie tastes like your grandmas cornbread in cookie form. It's perfectly soft and practically melts in your mouth, slightly savory with just a touch of sweetness, so freaking good. My kids ate the Conchas so fast I couldn't even get a bite in but the kids all said they were super yummy and we have to go back for more. Had a small line when we arrived so we got to watch everyone baking in the kitchen for a few minutes, which was fun to see. Highly recommend!

Theres a few seats in front of the shop and a cute lighted outdoor area with picnic benches to the side. Highly highly recommend a visit, especially given how late they are open at night and night time soft serve is the best! The only thing I always struggle with is not getting the taiyaki with ice cream drip all over me, so I highly recommend getting a cup to flip it over into!

I was craving Ube and might have gone a bit overboard on ordering dessert because they had so many Ube options. The building is colorful and decorated in bright pink with fun artwork and decor for an uplifting vibe. The line moved quickly and the service was friendly fast and efficient. I was able to place my order and pay with Apple Pay. I ordered the Taiyaki Sundae with black sesame and ube swirl soft serve served in a fish shaped mochi Belgian style waffle with Oreo dust on top. You can customize your sundae with filling like organic red sweet beans, Nutella or custard and toppings like Oreo dust, fruity pebbles or rainbow sprinkles. I ate this on site and the nutty black sesame balanced the sweet ube perfectly, and the Oreo topping added the best crunch. They had a variety of mochi donut flavors. Lucky for me, nothing was sold out today. I ordered the Oreo ube mochi donut and ube milk tea to-go. I ate the mochi donut later that day and it was probably my least favorite item from my order. It had the chewy mochi texture however I didn't get enough of the rich ube flavor. It had somewhat of a bitter aftertaste and the Oreo overpowered the ube. I drank the ube milk tea the next day and it was creamy, smooth, and not overly sweet. I really enjoyed the flavor profile of the beverage and would order it again. Overall, enjoyed my selections and will be back to try more dessert options and flavors from one of the most unique Asian dessert spots in Austin!

For my main dishes, I usually go with the lamb shank and sometimes the beef shawarma. The lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone tender, rich, and perfectly seasoned. It comes with a generous portion of rice that soaks up all those savory gravy, making every bite incredibly satisfying. The beef shawarma is thinly sliced, well-marinated, and packed with that classic shawarma flavor. It had the perfect balance of spices, and the portion size was no joke. Paired with their fresh pita and sides, it's easily one of the best shawarmas I've had in Austin. My favorite sides are the potatoes (must get), beet salad, tabouleh, hummus, and babaganoush. Pro-tip: ask for half sides, so basically you can choose up to 4 things instead of 2 full regular sides. The half side portions end up to be almost a full sized side. Pita comes with the meals and their desserts are good too. Service is quick, and the staff is kind. Whether you're grabbing something to-go or sitting down for a hearty meal, Peace Bakery & Deli is a must-try for anyone who loves Middle Eastern cuisine. Great Burger, Disappointing Steak, and Mixed Service Experience I had a fantastic burger--sweet, savory, and cooked to perfection. I would definitely order it again. However, the steak was just okay. It came with an interesting chimichurri sauce made with fresh ingredients, which was a pleasant surprise, but overall, the dish didn't impress me. The fries were decent, though there was a noticeable flavor from the oil that was carried across both plates at our table. If you're not a fan of ketchup, they offer a chipotle ranch for dipping. The restaurant itself is comfortable, calm, and quiet enough for conversation. Both the host and bartender were helpful and polite, which added to the pleasant atmosphere. Service Experience: Unfortunately, we did not have a great service experience with our particular server. However, I noticed good service happening around us, so I believe this was an isolated issue. When I brought my concerns to the manager, she was gracious and made an effort to make things right, which was unexpected but appreciated. I simply didn't want to continue interacting with that server. That said, if something goes wrong during your visit, you can feel confident that management will try to improve your experience. Pricing & Discounts: - The burger meal was $21, and the steak meal was $40, both without drinks. Given the location--inside a hotel in the heart of downtown Austin--these prices seemed reasonable. - You can get a discount here if you see a show at the Paramount. - I also booked a package through Element Hotel, which gave us discounts on meals at the hotel and its associated businesses. Hotel Experience Enhancing the Restaurant Visit: Being located inside the Element Hotel added to the overall positive experience. The valet, hotel staff, housekeeping, and even the gentleman making eggs at breakfast the next day were fantastic. This level of service contributed to the restaurant's welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere, making the dining experience more seamless and convenient. Final Rating: (4/5) The restaurant lost a star because: - The steak was disappointing. - The water was served at room temperature with no ice. We were not offered the option either way. - The steak knife was so dull that a butter knife was more effective. Mixed Experience at Caroline Restaurant I recently visited Caroline Restaurant and had a mixed experience that left me disappointed. While the carb and artichoke dip was delicious, there were several aspects of the meal that fell short of my expectations. First, let's start with the positive. The carb and artichoke dip was absolutely delicious. The combination of flavors was on point, and it was a great way to start the meal. However, the accompanying chips lacked freshness. They were not as crisp as I would have liked, which took away from the overall enjoyment of the dip. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when I ordered the chicken enchiladas. They were absolutely horrible. The chicken was incredibly dry, and the tortillas were hard and chewy. It was evident that the dish had been sitting for a while before being served, which greatly affected the taste and texture. I cannot recommend the chicken enchiladas based on this experience. To make matters worse, we were seated in the bar serving area, where the service was subpar. I had to constantly flag down different waiters to get their attention and request assistance. It was quite frustrating and took away from the overall dining experience. Additionally, when I asked to exchange the chicken enchiladas, the staff didn't inquire about the reason behind my dissatisfaction, which was a bit strange. I decided to exchange the chicken enchiladas for the green goddess salad, adding salmon to the dish. While the preparation was quick, I was disappointed to find that the salmon was overly salty. It overwhelmed the other flavors of the salad and made it less enjoyable. In conclusion, my experience at Caroline Restaurant was a mix of hits and misses. The carb and artichoke dip was a standout, but the chips could have been fresher. The chicken enchiladas were incredibly disappointing, with dry chicken and chewy tortillas. We had to wait for about 10 minutes for a table, but it was well worth it. I recently had the pleasure of indulging in a delightful weekday brunch at Caroline Restaurant, and I simply couldn't wait to share my experience with you all. Arriving at 9am with my party, we were pleasantly surprised to find there wasn't much of a line. The staff kindly informed us that they prefer the majority of the group to have arrived before seating, but this was not an issue for us. Despite the restaurant being reasonably busy, the service was impeccable. Our attentive server ensured we were well taken care of throughout our meal. In fact, our entire brunch experience lasted just under 50 minutes, which made it perfect for a quick catch-up with co-workers. One of the standout beverages was the Berry Basil Smoothie. This refreshing concoction combined blueberries, strawberries, basil, banana, agave, coconut milk, acai, pomegranate, and lime juice into a harmonious blend. Not too sweet, very healthy, and easy to drink, it struck the perfect balance between indulgence and nutrition. The smoothie had a pleasing consistency as well, not too thick, which made it easy to sip and savor. As for the main course, I opted for the Sweet Corn Cake Benedict. This dish featured a unique jalapeño cheddar corn cake base, topped with creamy avocado, fresh tomato and corn salsa, and of course, perfectly poached benedict eggs. The corn cake was a novel take on the traditional benedict, and it paired exceptionally well with the avocado and eggs. The dish wasn't overly saucy, allowing the individual flavors to shine through and create a well-balanced, satisfying meal. Rating: (4/5)A Rooftop Oasis with a Side of Sports and Games! I recently visited Upstairs at Caroline, a downtown Austin rooftop bar and grill, and the experience was memorable, to say the least. If you're into patio games and want a casual yet vibrant atmosphere, this spot should be on your radar. The Space: The rooftop setting provides a fantastic view of downtown Austin, and the layout is spacious enough to not feel cramped. The atmosphere is lively but not obnoxious--just the right balance for a weekend outing or even a casual weeknight drink. Games: The giant Jenga and Corn Hole games were great fun and a huge draw for my group. It's not every day that you get to play life-size board games while sipping on cocktails! Food & Drinks: The food is what you would expect from a bar and grill--good, but not mind-blowing. The drinks, however, were a different story. Their signature cocktails are inventive and well-balanced. Definitely try one of their seasonal concoctions if you're in the mood for something unique. TVs & Sports: What I especially liked was the abundance of TVs. We didn't have to fight for a good angle to watch the game, which is a common issue in many sports bars. Service: Staff was friendly and attentive, but could be a bit quicker given that the place wasn't overly crowded. Overall, Upstairs at Caroline delivers on multiple fronts: games, drinks, and a good time. It's not a 5-star dining experience, but it doesn't aim to be. My family and I recently took a quick vacation to Austin this past week. We had the pleasure staying at the Element Hotel and had no clue that this restaurant was on the first level of the hotel. This restaurant is fantastic! The pastry case is directly to the right of the front doors of the hotel. It's not easy as parents to keep your little ones away from those decadent treats! Last Saturday we stopped by the Coffeehouse after a nice dinner at Caroline. Dallis, our host was very friendly, and quick to get us a high chair for our youngest! Liz was our server and she was absolutely amazing! Friendly, on top of things, and great with our kiddos. We stopped at the Coffeehouse afterwards to grab a few treats to enjoy back up in the room. We were greeted by Bri who made our kids feel very welcome, and answered all of their questions about the pastries. She made three of them some hot chocolates, and my wife and I got an Irish coffee and their seasonal Rose Mocha Latte, absolutely delicious. Our kids grabbed the birthday cake cookie, a chocolate chip cookie and a cinnamon roll probably as big as our youngest's face. These pastries were absolutely wonderful, and Bri was very patient and you could tell she loved doing what she does! That night definitely made our stay at the Element so much better! We will definitely be staying here when we come back to Austin! read more

We stumbled upon this place while we were in town for a convention. We wanted a quick snack and maybe a few drinks before we continued on our afternoon of exploring. The restaurant was fairly slow at this time, mid afternoon, to be expected in my opinion. We sat at the bar and was immediately greeted with water and a smile. The bartender Brie(?) gave us a few recommendations on some great cocktails and beer. Unfortunately the beer my husband wanted was out, something to do with their tap so he opted for the Fire Eagle IPA, local, and he said very tasty. I chose the Flight of the Concord cocktail, it had gin and a raspberry liquor, and some other stuff I assume. It was one of the best cocktails I've ever had! As for snacks we got the Spicy Deviled Eggs and the Roasted Sweet Corn Dip. The eggs were the perfect amount of spicy and the corn dip was one of the best dips I've had in Austin! Our server recommended we grab a pastry for the road and we got the Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookie -- to die for and the Chocolate Zucchini Bread -- also to die for! Being from the south, I've had a lot of deviled eggs in my lifetime, and I can confidently say that Caroline's are the best I've ever had. But I think they were even better because of who served them to me. The ONE AND ONLY YANETT. Beautiful, gorgeous, never been done before. A tale as old as time. Yanett made great recommendations and was nice enough to let me sample a few wines to see what which one would pair well with my dinner. I got the Mahi Al Pastor and a white wine whose name I can't remember, but the amount of flavor packed in the food was so refreshing, as some southern food can be so heavy or portions can be too big. Prices are fair and atmosphere is cozy and cohesive. I didn't have time for a dessert because I was in a bit of a hurry, but I'm sure they're amazing. When I'm back in Austin, I will definitely come back, and it looks like there's a rooftop bar above it with great views?? A must-see in Austin. A tale as old as time. read more

This definitely fits the "meh." I came here for coffee, and experienced probably the most confusing, just overall odd atmosphere. There's 3 (or 4?) different concepts from a bar, restaurant, coffee shop, and whatever the heck else there is. I had my laptop and wanted to get some work done. I walk in, and it was like a restaurant. But they said to sit wherever. But I had a server. But the coffee bar was "in the back," when food was being served up front. Whatever... I opted for a salad. A $15 salad. What. The. Heck. Maybe this place moved in from LA or what have you, but it's not for me. Obviously it's for some. Obviously it's for people who feel a need to spend too much money eating out rather than living. But opinions are opinions. If you like the overpriced, bad service kind of place, go here! If you want just a coffee and to get some work done, there are better places around within walking distance. read more

Caroline is a gem in the heart of downtown Austin, just steps from the Capitol. The vibe is lively and upbeat, perfect for a casual lunch, happy hour, or a night out. The menu is impressively diverse--you'll find everything from a juicy burger to pasta, Mexican favorites, and even a crispy chicken schnitzel that hits all the right notes. The real star of the show? My husband and I were visiting Austin this past week and got the chance to check out Caroline! We sat in the bar area this past Sunday and had the pleasure of Breanna waiting on us! She was very attentive, our drinks were great and the food was awesome! I had the huevos rancheros and it was the best I've had in Austin! My husband had the Eggs Your Way and those potatoes are to die for as well as the peppered bacon! I had the Three Orange Mimosa which had a liquor (I can't remember the name) in addition to the Champagne! Definitely Boozy! My husband loved the BBQ Bacon Bloody Mary, again, their bacon is amazing! If we ever make it back to Austin we will definitely be back at Caroline and we hope that Breanna is working again! It's a must in Austin and Breanna sure knows what she's doing! read more
