Korean comfort homemade food in Coquitlam. With the abundance of good quality Korean restaurants in Coquitlam, it is often hard to stand out but Cafe SoBahn just reminds me of going home. The people running the cafe are extremely friendly and they make delicious food. I mean the only thing that I could complain about was that I had to walk to another building to wash my hands/use the bathroom. Would definitely recommend!

I really like this small but yet family operated restaurant. It feels warming and welcoming when you the chef being the husband and the server being the wife working hard to cook and serve great Korean food! The Dosirak as known as the Korean traditional school bento box, is a hearty and filling course with simple Korean ingredients. Kimbap is very family styled and delicious! The fish cake soup is a big portion for 5 people and it comes in a Korean traditional golden pot! The spicy cold noodle is perfect for a hot summer right now with a nice blend of spice and vinegar on the side. Overall, this restaurant is not pricy. The price is just right for its portion and they are all very authentic Korean food. They make you want go back each time! The food is like what mama used to make! In this case the Korean couple who runs the restaurant absolutely put their effort in the Korean delicacy.

Excellent food - we had the Korean-style carbonara which is heavy on the cream. I love Asian-style carbonara (am definitely aware that Italian carbonara is cream-free) at times when I need that luxurious, full-fat taste. This version was amazing. My husband had the beef and butter bimbap - marinated beef slices on top of steamed rice, mixed with butter and served with a fried egg. He wants to go back today (Sunday) for another serving but they're closed on Sundays. Service was warm and friendly, food was tasty and reasonably priced, and we can see ourselves coming in often.

This restaurant is owned by a very nice couple, and the food is delicious. The carbonara was my favourite, very creamy and rich. Was a little disappointed that the kimchi tuna rice bowl was not raw tuna, but I guess that is not common in Korean places. Overall, it is worth trying for a casual lunch.

I just love this place, every time I've come food has been really good and friendly service! This place is just so cute. I've eaten here several times when I was the only customer, it surprises me that it's not busier. Great specials as well. I'll be back.

This was one of greatest experiences I had. Such a cozy and modern little spot. The sweet couple that run this restaurant are amazing, you can tell how much love they put into their food. The weekly specials are just the greatest. I enjoyed the chicken karage bowl with miso soup and sides. My friend had the lunch box. Both dishes were amazing and full of flavor. Each week there's a new special , you will never get tired of the food here. A must eat spot.

Cozy Korean cafe in the area. I really like kimbap so I made my way here for lunch. We ordered kimbap, udon soup with fish cake and japchae. Prices were reasonable for the portion size. Service was good. Menus and tea offered right after we were seated. Tea was refilled a couple times during our meal. Food was tasty. Kimbap was fresh. Udon soup with fish cake tasted like a home cook meal for its simplicity and was very comforting to eat during the cold weather. Japchae used ground beef instead of beef slices.

Came on a weekend an hour before closing to find this place relatively empty. There were only two other tables. We walked in a little confused as the waitress was cleaning and did not acknowledge us. My bf and I stood awkwardly at the entrance waiting for some time while the other patrons looked at us. Due to the lack of service, we thought this was a self-serve place. After a while of waiting, we were finally seated and served chilled tea, but not given menus. We ended up grabbing the menus ourselves. Pros: - The decor is very simple and cute - very "instagram" worthy. Menus are laminated photos that are bind together with a binder ring. - Prices are reasonable. Cons: - This is a small restaurant that can seat around 20 customers. - Menu is small (3 chilled noodle options, 1 pasta, 1 bibimbap, 1 old fashion lunch box, 2 kimbap, and 1 weekly special). - Side dishes are not served. Food: - The kimbap was fresh and had good flavours. Other than that, there isn't much to say. - The chilled beef noodles was plain. There wasn't anything in the dish other than noodles, vegetables and a half boiled egg (see picture). The broth however, was very delicious and flavourful. - I enjoy being able to add my own soy sauce and hot sauce to my bibimbap to fit my preference. I was a little disappointed that the dish had very little grounded meat and no kimchi (was given radishes). The fishcake soup that came with the bibimbap was bland, but toned down the spiciness of the bibimbap. The fishcake was mushy and tasteless. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. The restaurant is owned by a Korean family so the dishes taste homemade, but delicious. However, we don't think we would crave to come back since nothing stood out or was spectacular.

Cute small family-operated korean cafe. Cozy and comfortable. Food tasted decent. I like that they have vegetarian options for the japchae and bibimbap. Would be even better if they had a veg option for the kimbap!

Carbonara Pasta with Bacon & Mushroom $11.99 Review: I was MASSIVELY craving pasta and even though this is just a korean café, the pasta wasn't bad. FUNFACT: You know the chef here used to work at an Italian restaurant The pasta was cooked to a nice al dente texture. And the pasta was infused with the many delightful flavours of the sauce. The carbonara sauce was nice seasoned and very creamy I love bacon and mushrooms (YES I LIKE FUNGI OKAY) so I thought it paired with the pasta very well. All the ingredients of the pasta collaborated together to make a beautiful flavour! However, I feel like this sauce is a bit too heavy and oily for me as I felt super bLoAtEd after eating it and I don't usually feel this way because I can eat a lot... I recommend this café but I probably would not order this pasta again. The pasta doesn't taste bad at all but I just find that actual Italian restaurants that offer pasta to make it better as it is their forté. I would recommend to stick to the korean options as I have tried them and it is a korean café after all! Rating: 7.5/10

Bossam is served with a fun variety of sides like tofu, pickles, and radish. Staff are friendly but understaffed. Once the place filled up they were swamped. Signature steamed seafood pot - definitely on the pricey side, but they don't skimp out. Special mention for the presentation. Plenty of goodies including an entire lobster, half a large octopus (tenticle/arm half), snails, oysters, scallops, prawns, and fish balls among others. Basically everything without fish. Served in a large tray (the ones seen at banquet buffets), and everything cooked in broth. This was enough to probably feed 4-5 adults (assuming average appetites). So pretty. Deep fried squid with fries - honestly this dish was meh. Basically exactly what it sounds like. Squid is tempura style. Nothing special. I'd skip this one. Bossam (pork belly wraps) - served with tofu and spicy kimchi and some vegetable (kelp?) as well. They don't really give enough wraps compared to the pork slices. Decent portion size. My friends and I gobbled this up. This place also serves makgeolli (Korean rice wine) for a very reasonable price. Goes well with the food. Overall my friends and I left happy. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point to try some other dishes. Recommended.

I went for the sogogi dolsot bibimbap. It was served quickly and came with a large variety of banchan. I loved the bottle of spicy red sauce and probably added way too much, but it was so tasty. The rice crisped up on the dolsot at the bottom and provided a nice texture. The kimchi banchan was delicious so was the fish cake banchan. Came back here last night for dinner with my family and was finally able to try the bbq items. It was a hit! We ordered 2 of the combo A which was the perfect servings for 2 adults and 3 (very hungry!) teenaged boys. Not only did it come with 3 meat types (thinly sliced pork belly, marinated beef Bulgogi, and one other thinly sliced beef), it also came with soup, banchan, and a big bowl of Bibimbap. We also ordered their seafood pancake which was perfectly crispy and not too thin or thick. The actual bbq grill itself was the best one I've seen at a Korean restaurant because it was non-stick, temperature controlled really well, and it didn't leave us smelling like the food after dining. The ventilation must've been good here as it wasn't super smoky at all. The best dish was definitely the bean paste soup! We all loved it and had never tried it before, so next time we have Korean, it will be a staple in our order! It wasn't too busy last night so we were seated right away. Staff were friendly and while they were short-staffed, they were quick enough to get what we requested and ordered in a timely manner.
