Hadn't been to Bushwaller's in over 10 years, we decided to give it a try with a Restaurant.com certificate. Overall, a very good experience, the food was served hot and without delay, the selection of craft beers exceeded our expectations (I expected only the traditional Irish stouts/lagers and American shelf beers), and Sunday night is open-mic night, Ronan Kavanagh was playing (superb voice, timber like Christy Moore!) About the food: Above average bar food; the Calamari was super hot, fresh and cooked perfectly (I find most places don't cook it correctly), I had the Shepard's Pie which was just the right flavor, my wife had the Mac/Cheese with Crab (this was okay, but not great). There were about a dozen customers in the establishment from 6-9p, all at the bar, only us sitting at a table, front row to Ronan. We'll be back. read more

Believe it or not this place has amazing brunch on Sundays! I was very skeptical on trying this but my husband insisted since he is Irish. We went and with him and my brother-in-law and they got the Scottish eggs and they LOVED. I broke down and ordered the Ruben egg rolls. Oh my!! My taste buds were in HEAVEN. I avoid this place when grabbing drinks with friends and the bartenders were quite rude during the jingle crawl I attended but the brunch made up for it! Highly suggest! read more

Bushwallers is awesome! The food is simply wonderful, especially if you enjoy hearty, stick-to-your-ribs kind of food. As a fish and chips aficionado, I will have to testify that Bushwallers F&C is one of the more better versions that I've seen as well. At nights and one weekends the place can get pretty packed, so if you're going strictly for a meal, early evening during the week will definitely be your best bet. The atmosphere is still great even with less people; a sort of rustic, Irish (obviously), pub feel will invite you back again and again ast all times of day! read more

We discovered Bushwallers by way of a restaurant.com gift certificate when we first moved to Frederick. We are so glad we did! The food is fantastic. You get a very good portion size for your money. The presentation is great and it all just tastes soooo good. We were told they hired a legitimate chef to change things up. It was a great decision. They always have a great selection of beers on tap as well. I love the nitro pours. It changes the entire aspect of the brew. We fully recommend this restaurant to anyone in the mood for a great meal. read more

Overall all food was good but service was needing improvement. We were greeted and got our food and drinks with out any issues. The issue was when we presented out restaurant.com certificate they would not honor it towards alcohol. I have used restaurant.com in the past, and it has always stated if certificate could be used in conjunction with alcohol or not. Bushwallers didn't state that. First the server told me it was against liquor laws, which is incorrect. Then when I asked to see the manager, I was told the manager wouldn't be in for a few hours. What kind of restaurant operates without a manager on duty. So, we will not be going back read more

I watched a man spill his open beer over five "clean" pint glasses. Two waitresses saw this and nobody cleaned them. They served the pint glasses to other guests!! While visiting family in Frederick, on a recommendation we visited Bushwaller's for dinner. This bar reminded me of many of the old bars in NYC...tin ceiling, dark wood, old fashioned bar taps. Basically, a welcoming, charming bar/restaurant. The Crab Pretzel appetizer was AMAZING! Three of us shared it, and we were all quite pleased. My husband had the Surf & Turf...he said the steak was perfectly cooked and tender, and he really enjoyed the shrimp. A baked potato and broccoli rounded out the meal. My son had the Eastern Shore Wrap, and raved about it. After considerable deliberation, I opted for the Sweet Potato Black Bean Sliders from the Snack section of the menu. While I don't think I'd order that again, it was good but could have used some more flavor. The wrap and sliders came with a generous serving of excellent fries. Overall, a great place, friendly, attentive staff, and if I'm ever in the area again will go back. read more

I was looking forward to a nice satisfying dinner after a long day of working and not eating anything. We decided to try Bushwaller's and the reviews looked pretty good, despite seeing the Shepherd's pie described on the menu - mashed potatoes and meat in a bread bowl?? Really?? The atmosphere was comfortable and the staff were attentive. There is a nice selection of beer, cider, etc. We ordered the Scotch eggs as an appetizer. A Scotch egg is a hardboiled egg that is wrapped in sausage meat, rolled in bread crumbs and fried. What you get are two small eggs lightly smeared with sausage served with mustard. It was tasty, but I have to admit we expected them to be a little more substantial. For dinner, Michael ordered the corn and crab chowder. I ordered the corned beef and cabbage. As the food was brought to us I was about to tell the waitress I did not order any soup as a bowl was placed in front of me. The bowl contained small chunks of corned beef, some pieces of cabbage, chopped potatoes, carrots and celery in a broth. In my world this is a bowl of soup and not what I ordered. I do not know about you all, but what I expected to be on my "plate" were slices of corned beef, some boiled potatoes and a chunk of cabbage. I thought at first I misread the description on the menu, but I looked it up again and this is what it reads: Slow cooked corned beef, potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, house-made soda bread. Do not get me wrong it was tasty and yes I did eat it, but I was pissed. I only ate it as I was tired, hungry and did not want to make a scene. Michael's soup was fine. While we waited to get our check and leave, I noticed the other table had ordered the shepherd's pie. From what I could see you get a bread bowl, a big hunk of mashed potatoes piled on top with not a lot of meat inside. Also, no one seemed to be eating their fries. Just saying. If you do not mind paying $14 for a bowl of soup then this is the place for you. What we had did taste fine, but we felt cheated for what we received and paid for. Thank goodness there are other restaurants in Frederick, because we will not be going back here again. BTW - we have been to Ireland and know what real Irish fare should look and taste like. read more

I have been to Bushwaller's for the bar scene. They have many great beers on tap. It can get extremely crowded at night, especially when there is a band. The high volume of customers can make for less than friendly bartenders. The service during the day is usually more friendly. The food is surprisingly good pub food. Their reuben is awesome! They also play soccer games and any number of other sports games you might like to enjoy with a beer or a meal. read more

Great staff but terrible venue/bar. The bartenders are very nice. However the venue is not good. It gets very hot. The 2 Fans barely produce a breeze and it was way way way way way too hot in there. They either had the heat up way to much or they did not have any AC system. read more

Wow! After spending some time wandering around downtown Frederick we were overwhelmed with the choices (hey, we're from a small town...) and settled on Bushwallers because it was closest. We can't stop high-fiving ourselves for that luck! Crab dip was amazing although I would have preferred soft bread instead of hard-toasted rounds. Husband loved the raw oysters with a spicy cocktail sauce/salsa creation. Fish and chips usually has a slab or two of fish; this portion was so large we were surprised the head and tail weren't attached, accented with a fantastic lemon-garlicky tartar sauce and hand-cut fries. Then there is the Guinness stew. What can be said - you'll forget all table manners and attempt to lick the ridges out of the bowl so you don't miss a molecule of deliciousness. Everything I eat here is good. This is one of two or three standbys I love in downtown Frederick. Consistent and a good place for a night out or dinner with family. I love the black pudding salad, fish and chips, pretty much everything I have ever had on the menu. Our experience of service here has been overwhelmingly positive and consistent, but we aren't coming when they're 3 people deep at the bar either, so I couldn't speak to that. The wooden floors and well worn decor give the place a nice character. It's a bar where you don't feel bad when some beer spills on the floor. The food menu is typical bar fare leaning towards the Irish style; it's not bad but it won't be winning any awards either. Set your expectations appropriately and you'll be fine. The best part about Bushwallers is their live music. I have not eaten there, so i cannot attest to the food, but I doubt I will ever go back for the night life. They have great beers on tap, but they severely overcharge for them, it's usually a little dirty and dark, but by far the worst part is the TERRIBLE service. I have been several times, and never seen someone working there smile. They are very rude and charge cover on weekends. There are lots of better options in downtown Frederick! read more

It was nice. Food was good I went with my family of four. My son then I had the corn beef and cabbage my wife had the fish and chips and my daughter had a salad. The Ruben egg roll was fantastic. My family has become experts at judging whether the calamari is good or not. our calamari was fantastic. Not much for atmosphere. But all in all a good eat. read more

Basic Irish Pub. They serve Guinness but service is hit or miss. Twice a waitress (same one each time) was a little too pushy when it came to getting people to either switch tables or get out by cleaning up the table or in a very direct and brash manner telling folks a band is coming to play. The worst occasion was when she was clearing the table and grabbed a glass of Guinness that was still be drank out of by a young lady in our party. Firestones down the street and Brewer's Alley are better, although Firestones doesn't serve Guinness. Shepherds pie is very good too. Just the service is lousy. read more

Bushwallers looks like a dive on the outside, and in face, on the inside too. But this restaurants humble environs are no indication of the quality of the food. The mussel appetizer is extraordinary, and the shepherds pie is the best I've had outside of Boston. And yes, the taps here are clean- no tinny flavored Guinness. read more

I would not recommend eating at this establishment. On 09/08/2018, I came to eat lunch with four people in my party. We seated ourselves, per the sign at the door, and it took 5-10 minutes before a server stopped by to hand us menu's. She did not introduce herself, but my receipt says she was Server # 14. We all requested water and a second beverage, as well as an appetizer and our meals. It took another ten minutes to get these drinks, at which time only one of the four of us got a water. To her credit, she did bring along another water about twenty minutes later. The appetizer came at an ok pace, but the meals took forever. I would understand if we had ordered meals that took time, but two salads, a wrap, and a sandwich shouldn't take as long as they did. Having been a server in numerous restaurants, I would guess that our server forgot to put in the order after the appetizer. When the food came, one of the salads was wrong. The server offered to have it corrected, but the two in the party that ordered salads just decided to split the one cobb salad that was correct. To the restaurants credit, the salad was very large and easily split between the two. The wrap that I ordered was not very tasty. The ratio of crab dip to chicken was overwhelming, and made the wrap taste as though I was biting into a melted crab/cheese burrito. read more

Bushwaller's is a good place to get a drink just not so good to get food. I've only ordered for a couple of times here but it has never been amazing. What I like to go here for is the pub aspect of the restaurant. It is a fun place to go out on a Friday or Saturday night! Often they will have good live music which makes it a fun place to hang out and dance at night. read more

The food here is spectacular. However, the oysters could have been more chilled(they were lukewarm). The burger came out a perfect medium rare and had some good char on it. The Rachel was very tasty however, It would be better if it had more filling(turkey,coleslaw,etc). It seemed a little light especially for the price. The beer list is very nice. There is a nice selection of craft beers. The atmosphere is of a typical Irish Pub. A bit dark and lots of woodwork. I am not sure if they had some flooding previously because when you walk in there is a bit of a musty odor. I will be back for the food though! read more

I came here on 3/18/16 with my friends as a belated birthday outing. The atmosphere of the place has a vintage Irish theme (in my opinion) with a ceiling that looks like a chocolate bar and the place at the time was very busy and crowded, especially at the bar, stuffy and had a little funny smell but it wasn't too smelly and stuffy because people kept going out and coming in, especially the cigarette smokers that went out to smoke, so my friends and I sat at a booth. As we got seated, my friends ordered beer, a screwdriver and I ordered a drink that had cranberry juice, Makers Mark whiskey and sprite. We split an order of cheese fries with Irish bacon along with Jalapeño Poppers, which was very good but too spicy for me but my drink washed down the spiciness. I was here for a few hours and having a good time with my friends and the party really got started when there was live music being played. Later on , a waitress came by and promoted some drink called Jameson's which was good, but very strong. Overall, I had a good time, and I think I may come here in the future. The only thing that needs to be improved is the service. The waitress at the time was friendly and she kept the drinks coming, but the drinks took too long as well as the food.
