    Crabs, corn on the cob
    Ryan V.

My family was in for the holiday and wanted crabs. I haven't had crabs since moving out to Frederick a few years ago, so I wasn't sold on this choice. The inside looks like a typical crab house that you'd see on the water in the summer. Nothing fancy and a little outdated. The service from the server was awesome. She was attentive and patient as she explained the menu to us and was just great. The crabs are certainly the star of the show. They have multiple options for eating crabs. You can do an all you can eat or order by the half dozen, dozen, etc. they even have a crab kids meal. The crabs were excellent and they give you everything you need to pick them. We also got orders of snow crab legs since they were on special, corn, potatoes, etc. Everything was really good and came out pretty quick. I ordered the fish platter with a side of popcorn shrimp. The fish was okay, I'm not a huge fan of fish and chips style batter and prefer more of a cornmeal batter. The popcorn shrimp was absolutely fantastic. It isn't the small frozen shrimp you're used to. They were big and fried beautifully. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and I look forward to taking them again.

Happy Mommy, Happy Kids! Thanks Avery's!

Avery's SAVED the day on Mother's Day!!! We are regular customers but I chose to take my wife and two kids to Baltimore and Nick's Fish House for a waterfront crab feast. Bad move, as the place RAN OUT of crabs less than an hour after opening, all while we were already sitting through a two hour wait to be seated. We cut our losses and headed back to our area, zeroing in on Avery's as a plan B and hoping for the best. As always, they came through! We put our name on their convenient wait list and were seated within an hour after arriving. And NO SHORTAGE of crabs here! Mom enjoyed her feast and the margaritas were top notch (and powerful!) WELL DONE and THANK YOU for saving Mother's Day, Avery's! We will be back all summer!

    Crab Cake Sandwich ($21)

I was very excited to see Avery's while driving back home from a trip. My family and I opted to dine outside on the deck since the weather was lovely. The restaurant also has plenty of indoor seating. Parking is outdoor, free, and part of a shared lot. It can get busy, but we didn't have trouble getting a spot on a Thursday evening. On to the food: I thought it was just okay. Unfortunately, the Pit Beef sandwich I had was tasteless, even with the house coleslaw and barbecue sauce. The meat in my second bite was chewy and appeared to be very undercooked. I could not actually take a bite because of the texture. I told our server about it and it was removed off of the bill. The hush puppies that came with the pit beef as my side were just okay too. Definitely crunchy and deep fried, but lacked any sort of flavor. My husband had the crab cake and although it had very little fillers (just a few pieces of bell pepper and the rest was crab), it was very soggy/wet. This might have been a result of crab cake not having too much fillers, but it was not crispy. Again, I felt flavor was lacking despite using the tartar sauce and the coleslaw provided. We did enjoy the fried shrimp. They were crispy and even reheated well at home in the air-fryer. A lot of the other tables were having oysters, steamed shrimp and blue crab, so I know the restaurant is well loved and popular, I didn't have a great experience.

Absolutely an awesome experience with my girlfriends. From the moment we walked in, the service was outstanding--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Our server Barbie kept everything running smoothly throughout the meal. We opted for outside seating. It wasn't too hot and had a nice breeze. Now, let's talk about the food--We opted for AYCE Option A (crabs and sides). The crabs were the star of the show, fresh and perfectly seasoned. For sides, we got Maryland crab soup, corn, hash puppies, and fries all paired perfectly with the crabs. We also got a lb of steamed shrimp to share. A few crushes were ordered along with the ultimate Bloody Mary. If you love crabs, this spot is a must-visit. I'll definitely be coming back!

What can I say? I really love this place! One of the biggest thing for me is the area, it's located in a quiet spot with plenty of parking, which takes the stress out of the whole visit. The staff here is consistently friendly and they're always more than happy to walk you through the menu if you have questions. On top of the great service, the food is priced amazingly well for the quality you get. You honestly can't beat this spot for a solid, affordable meal!

Came here on a Wednesday and had the AYCE crabs with sides. It was only $55 and such a great value. Before deciding on the AYCE option, I had asked what size crabs were offered and was told small to medium. But when the crabs came out, they looked large! I've been dreaming about the crabs at Avery's ever since and can't wait to go back!

    Fried Seafood Plattee

Went to Avery's Maryland Grille for a family bday - service was Great, food was not! We had chicken wings as an appetizer which were not seasoned, hard, & overcooked. I had Broiled Scallops in white wine & butter - they were just okay. Had very little seasoning, portions & size were fine. I ordered the Fried Seafood Platter with fish, clams, shrimp, hush puppies, coleslaw, corn. The portions were great, the food lacked in taste - there wasn't any! The corn on the cobb had too much old bay seasoning, the fish had too much of whatever they coated it with, tasted & looked like it was frozen. I sent my entire meal back & did not order anything else. This is my 2nd time there & I will not be returning for a 3rd. I was told they have new owners.

The food here was not very good at all. Service was great and ambience is great. Maryland crab soup is super tomatoey and needs more crab. Looked like they just poured canned tomatoes with some veggies and crab meat. Soft shell crab was chewy and not done well at all. It was not edible. In fact, I felt ill after eating a few bites of it and was sick the rest of the night. Steamed shrimp are ok but really hard to peel. Crab cake has a lot of filler and no flavor, none at all. The best thing was actually the hush puppies. I think people come here for the steamed crabs and the bar. A half dozen of mediums was $35, $70 for a dozen. Up to $110 for a dozen extra larges.

What can I say everything about Avery's is amazing! The food the service the staff are excellent. We will definitely be returning. I would highly recommend Avery's.

    Sexy Ass Bloody Mary
    Bella V.

I will be real transparent, this was an amazing experience! We made the pitstop because my husband was told Maryland has the best blue crabs. This place was close by to our hotel and the reviews were amazing. Being a seafood fanatic, we got a little bit of everything. So here's the breakdown. The hush puppies were really good. the mac and cheese, noodles were el dente, cheese sauce was bland but not bad. Nothing a little salt couldn't fix. When I ordered the fried fish, I was really expecting fried fish not breaded but I will say it was 95% fish and 5% breading. So I really liked that. The stuffed crabs were really good! It was my husband's favorite. The NY Steak- was the BEST NY Steak I've tasted. Ordered medium served medium to perfection. Tender, perfect pink, and it was delicious not salty or over seasoned, you can taste the great quality meat used. The regular crab soul just wasn't for us. I prefer the creamy crab soup. The seafood chowder was great as well. The raw oysters were just regular, no special sauce or different dressings to make them more delicious, nothing special about them but they did taste fresh. Now, I will say I don't really do blue crabs in shell, the only crabs I like cracking is snow crab and king crabs, with that said, the seasoning on top of the blue crabs was tasty, i do wish they had that seasoning in a form of sauce or on the side, the crabs we're okay. My favorite seafood joint still remains untouchable. The Bloody Mary with skewer was delicious and the presentation was sexy AF!! The restaurant was clean, we were seated right away and our waitress added such a great experience to this dinner. We expected to pay at least $200 minimum, We paid $108 and had beer, bloody M, NY steak strip, 3 hard shell crab, fried fish, hush puppies, stuffed shrimp, Raw Oysters, soup, a d mac and cheese. So YES, when you consider everything from food to experience, this place is highly recommended for great fresh quality seafood and steak. Yes you may or may not a little salt but if thats the only negative, this place is a huge win! I will definitely come here again and recommend!

    Half bushel
    Betty L.

Got a take out order of half bushel for a Friday evening. I called ahead for it to be picked up in about 40 minutes. Order was ready when I got there. Packaged in thick black bag and then in a cardboard box. MP was $200. Came to 43 crabs. Very well seasoned. The weak of heart might even say too salty. There were a few light ones but overall very pleasantly surprised with the sizes. Good to know this place exists and will definitely be a nice alternative to driving to Baltimore or Annapolis. Of note, half of the family did not think they were as sweet as Chesapeake blue crabs. Their page doesn't specifically say where they source their crabs so it's possible. I haven't had blue crabs in a while so I couldn't personally tell the difference.

The linguini in the seafood linguine was cooked soft so it's good for little kids, but if you would like it more al dente, you'll probably have to let them know. While the garlic sauce was generous and delicious, the quality of the mussels themselves was disappointing. It was cooked perfectly and paired with a very flavorful sauce. Highly recommended! * The Dessert: Finished with the coconut cake. It was our first year of dating anniversary but we failed to notice when looking the place up that they closed at 7:30pm. We walked in at about 7:40pm and the bartender regretfully informed us that they had just closed. We accepted the situation for the error it was on our part and opted to go elsewhere. So barely 3 minutes after walking up to the entrance, we were heading back to our truck. The chefs were still there and immediately asked us why we weren't staying to eat. When we explained that we hadn't realized they closed at 7:30, they looked at us and said, "Go back in there and tell them we said we're still open for you guys." We were a bit concerned that we'd cause hard feelings and said we could just come back a different day, and they wouldn't have it. "We're the guys who'll be cooking, not them, if we're okay with it, then what have you got to lose?" We looked at each other and thought briefly and headed back up to the entrance. I had mentioned that I had a spur of the moment 'hankerin' for German Food, and he said, "Well, you're at the right place!" Before we got back in the front door, one of the chefs (we learned shortly after were the owners) was already letting the bar staff know to get us seated and taken care of. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu, and I ordered the Pork Schnitzel. We of course sampled each others' dishes and it was beyond amazing on both entrees. Some of the best schnitzel I've had NOT in Europe, and the mushroom onion gravy was so savory and rich. The Chicken was loaded with flavor and I could definitely see that being on a future order for myself. After we were beyond stuffed, we decided to split a dessert for the occasion and had the Chocolate Mousse Cake. When the bartender learned it was our first anniversary, she made sure to get a candle to put in the cake for us, it was a very nice and welcoming touch. The bar staff was on their game with the service, keeping drinks full and checking on us frequently to make sure we were good to go. There were only two other tables still seated in the restaurant at that point, and they were actually there already eating when we first arrived. They were still there when we departed, so we assumed they may have been family friends or locally important patrons. The ambiance of the restaurant has a very British Pub feel to it, and it is so amazingly cozy and feels like home. We both left with an amazing impression and cannot wait for another chance to try some of the other menu options. I'm very curious to try the Filet Mignon next time, but the Stroganoff looked quite tempting as well. I think we both found a place that we'll absolutely keep on the short list of places to revisit next time we're in town. It was such a memorable experience and we so greatly appreciated the flexibility and hospitality they demonstrated. That type of service is so hard to find these days. Beyond that, I REALLY want to try those Eclairs on a Thursday!
