These folks keep doin seafood right! I had the Tortilla Poblano crusted Mahi....delicious with the right amount of kick! The salad greens were bright and full of fresh ingredients and delicious flavor! The red beans and rice come with all the main entrees and they are right on point! Hubs had the grilled scallops--heavenly! Hush puppies and honey butter are always a great addition. Great service! Great portions. Friendly, chill atmosphere. Everything reasonably priced.

It's late Thursday night and I can't sleep. I watch re-runs of Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey. Mostly mundane and boring, but then someone takes a chance and serves him a plate of english Fish and Chips. I thought for sure he was going to tear them apart, but he unexpectedly loved them them. And that's when it sunk in. I NEED some Fish & Chips as soon as possible (I'm easily influenced). So the next day I looked into who makes the best F&C's in Frederick. The name that came up the most was Ragin' Reef. It's Frederick, so I didn't expect great British Fish & Chips locally. But I was completely proved wrong. The next day we B-Lined it to RR for some F&C with minimal expectations. The restaurant tables were full so we had to sit at the bar, which at first was a bummer, but ended up being a blessing. Noah was our bartender and he was absolutely AMAZING. So nice, knowledgeable , and he guided us through the menu since it was our first time there. Literally, could not have been more friendly and helpful. Fantastic guy! The Salad/vegetables arrived and, although I was skeptical at first, the tangy dressing was a perfect match for the salad. Next came the Entrées. The Fish Tacos were good. I feel like the fish needs much more seasoning and less tomatoes, but overall enjoyable. The star of the show was the Fish & Chips. Absolutely awesome! The fish was crispy, perfectly seasoned. and piping hot. 10/10!! And I lived in London for a while so I know a great F&C when I taste it. Could not have been better. Even the Tartar sauce was amazing (I took extra home). Yes, I wish the chips were bigger like in the UK instead of French fries, but come on - it's all about the fish, really. And they even had Malt Vinegar!! YES!! Definitely check out Ragin' Reef. It's food and service lives up to it's high ratings. Love this place and will definitely be back.

So my wife loved her Scallops. Said they were great. I had the Cream of Crab Soup and the Fish and Chips. I thought the Cream of Crab Soup needed more crab in it, specifically a few pieces of lump crabmeat. In general it was okay, but heavy on the cream and light on the crab. The Fish and Chips were served hot, but they were extremely greasy, and I ate less than half of my serving because of the very greasy texture. I have had much better. So for my wife it was great, but I was pretty disappointed. And I have been throne voting to come here again. Oh well, I guess I will have the Scallops next time. The service was pretty decent.

Had my first brunch and it was very good! Food was fresh and service was attentive. Atmosphere is casual. Best part was the cheesecake! Yum!

Upon entering, we were immediately greeted cheerfully. Alex confirmed the size of our party and sat us. This was an early Saturday afternoon. Alex provided great eye contact and made us feel welcome. We ordered non alcoholic drinks, then asked about the fresh oysters, which we ordered. After a few minutes, we were ready to order our entrees. Based on some of our exclusions, Alex asked if we wanted a gluten free entrees. We did for one entrée, so Alex informed us how the crab cake would be different. The half dozen oysters were well presented and very fresh tasting. Both the Crab "no" Cake Salad and the Stuffed Shrimp entrees were also very well presented. Everything was nicely prepared and seasoned, plus fresh tasting. We enjoyed our meal and were very happy with the service Alex provided.

Crabcake, cream of crab soup, wicked pasta & chicken tenders.. FOOD IS FIRE! 12/10
    Jamil L.

Excellent service! Amazing food! Family owned gem right here! I haven't been here since 2016/17 my first time back in years and the experience was incredible. The crabcake? 12/10 pure jumbo lump melt in your mouth.. the fries they have here are my favorite the perfect shoe string fries. My wife got a wicked chicken pasta and we were blown away at the freshness and overall quality, the chicken tenders were perfect crispy golden perfection, oh let's not forget the cream of crab soup...torch, it was delicious... I wish Montgomery county, Md- had a spot like this! Def will be back very soon !

    Tortilla & poblano crusted flounder

Wonderful food and service! I haven't had a bad dish there yet. The fried calamari appetizer is wonderful, their raw oysters are always fresh and clean (no sand!), and the drinks are deceptively strong. I had the tortilla and poblano flounder recently and it was very flavorful and cooked perfectly. They have the some of the best crab cakes in MD - big pieces of crab without all the filler. When the stuffed cod is on the menu, it's a must try. I only deducted a star because they forgot to add the vinaigrette that came with the dish, the green beans could have used some seasoning & butter, and the portion of rice and beans could be more. Otherwise, great place with great food.

Best dining out experience we've had in a long time. The restaurant and bar are cute, the food is perfection and the bartender, Noah, was excellent. We liked it so much for dinner that we made a reservation to return the next day for lunch.

    Jambalaya, highly recommend!

Really nice environment with lovely and special decors. The Jambalaya was really great! Better Cajun flavor than I had in California! Highly recommend! The beerbuttered cod was okay but not very special. Noah has been helping us to enjoy our meals really well ;)

Went for weekday dinner. I got bunch of small plates (mussels, clam chowder, side order of deep fried cods) and hush puppies for the table. My husband got wicked chicken pasta as he is not a seafood person. Everything was great, especially hush puppies with a honey butter! So good! They had a great selection of beers on draft. Wish they had one or two more options for non-sea food menu but this is seafood restaurant so it's ok. The pasta was very good anyway. The price was good, service was fantastic!

The main dining room is absolutely gorgeous with the stonework and architecture. The bar area was very busy as we were on the tail end of their happy hour. Our server walked us through the menu. We started with the ravioli appetizer. It had shaved truffles on top and egg yolk covered in Parmesan cheese. They almost had a little crunch to them and the inside was filled with ricotta cheese. The sides are à la carte as is most of the menu. I ordered the tavern burger. It came with beef fat glaze among other spreads and was very well seasoned. The side of beef fat fries were also well seasoned and crispy. The best dish was the pot roast. It was so tender and the gravy was so flavorful. This paired perfect with their creamy mashed potatoes. The service was decent but the food and atmosphere was absolutely amazing. They have a huge variety of cocktails and wine. It's a bit more formal Dining. It doesn't require a jacket or anything.

We received fantastic service from start to finish, from being seated right at our reservation time to our server answering our dietary needs questions to our dishes coming out in a timely and well-paced manner. Wye Oak's ambiance being set in a former church/religious institution is unique, providing an interesting ambiance. However, the food left much to be desired. While the presentation on every dish ranged from good to amazing, out of the seven dishes we shared only 1.5 of them were delicious. Some of the dishes were bland and one note; others were overcooked or overseasoned. We shared the following dishes: Coddies: While the cod was perfectly cooked and breaded, it had no flavor. The cauliflower tartar sauce added nothing to the dish; the cauliflower giardiniera at least added some nice crunch and acid. Savory Parmesan Cheesecake: The cheesecake had no flavor; the acid and freshness of the cherry tomatoes of the arugula pesto could not elevate or salvage this dish. Cheese Ravioli: By far the best dish of the evening. The ravioli tasted fresh, were nicely cooked, and the cheeses and sauce were delicious. Smoked Beet Pastrami: The beets were well-cooked and fantastically seasoned, complemented perfectly by the dressing. However, there needed to be more beets and a better beet-to-funnel cake ratio; while the funnel cake added some nice crunch, there was way too much of it and did not do much for the dish. Brussels Sprouts: Well-seasoned, although very greasy and overcooked. Broccoli di Ciccio: Perfectly cooked, but very salty. It did have good heat. House Rolls with butter: Warm and fine, but nothing distinct. I would try elsewhere if you are looking to dine out in Frederick, especially given Wye Oak Tavern's prices.

They start you with warm complementary bread with butter. The filet mignon was our favorite dish with soft meat and mashed potatoes. The sauce was a little sour to complement the meat. The linguini in the seafood linguine was cooked soft so it's good for little kids, but if you would like it more al dente, you'll probably have to let them know. There were 3 mussels, 2 scallops and several shrimp all cooked well. The green beans were cooked so they were still crunchy. Some of mine were a bit too undercooked for me. It was our first year of dating anniversary but we failed to notice when looking the place up that they closed at 7:30pm. We walked in at about 7:40pm and the bartender regretfully informed us that they had just closed. We accepted the situation for the error it was on our part and opted to go elsewhere. So barely 3 minutes after walking up to the entrance, we were heading back to our truck. The chefs were still there and immediately asked us why we weren't staying to eat. When we explained that we hadn't realized they closed at 7:30, they looked at us and said, "Go back in there and tell them we said we're still open for you guys." We were a bit concerned that we'd cause hard feelings and said we could just come back a different day, and they wouldn't have it. "We're the guys who'll be cooking, not them, if we're okay with it, then what have you got to lose?" We looked at each other and thought briefly and headed back up to the entrance. I had mentioned that I had a spur of the moment 'hankerin' for German Food, and he said, "Well, you're at the right place!" Before we got back in the front door, one of the chefs (we learned shortly after were the owners) was already letting the bar staff know to get us seated and taken care of. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu, and I ordered the Pork Schnitzel. We of course sampled each others' dishes and it was beyond amazing on both entrees. Some of the best schnitzel I've had NOT in Europe, and the mushroom onion gravy was so savory and rich. The Chicken was loaded with flavor and I could definitely see that being on a future order for myself. After we were beyond stuffed, we decided to split a dessert for the occasion and had the Chocolate Mousse Cake. When the bartender learned it was our first anniversary, she made sure to get a candle to put in the cake for us, it was a very nice and welcoming touch. The bar staff was on their game with the service, keeping drinks full and checking on us frequently to make sure we were good to go. There were only two other tables still seated in the restaurant at that point, and they were actually there already eating when we first arrived. They were still there when we departed, so we assumed they may have been family friends or locally important patrons. The ambiance of the restaurant has a very British Pub feel to it, and it is so amazingly cozy and feels like home. We both left with an amazing impression and cannot wait for another chance to try some of the other menu options. I'm very curious to try the Filet Mignon next time, but the Stroganoff looked quite tempting as well. I think we both found a place that we'll absolutely keep on the short list of places to revisit next time we're in town. It was such a memorable experience and we so greatly appreciated the flexibility and hospitality they demonstrated. That type of service is so hard to find these days.
