I just drove to Frederick, checked into the hotel and now I'd like to get some dinner. A quick Yelp search suggests Madrones. I don't understand the name, is it a chain restaurant? Did local boy Joey Madrones open his own joint? I know there is beer involved so I grab my co workers and we head on over to Madrones. We're here during the week and the place is jumpin'! I did not make a reservation and was able to snag a table with no wait. The beer selection is quite substantial with 24 beers on tap. I ordered a Hefeweizen to get the dinner party started. I started with the Fried Chesapeake Oysters. I mean, we're in Maryland so seafood is a must. The fried oysters were plump and quite tasty. Madrones is known for their Prime Rib so I ordered a small cut to start. The Au Jus along with the steak was a perfect cut for me. Quick review based on many visits. Best. Prime. Rib. In. Frederick. Seriously. It's well seasoned, perfectly cooked, tender, and very flavorful The jus that comes with it is beefy and not over-salted as many are. My only gripe: you have to ask for horseradish to add to their horseradish sauce as it's really weak. I always the same sides: Caesar Salad and a baked potato. The salad is drenched with dressing by default, so I've learned to ask for dressing on the side. (And to 86 the sun-dried tomatoes. Who does that to a Caesar?). The potato is always well baked, with a fluffy interior and crisp exterior (and yes, I eat the skin. As my Mom used to say, "That's where the nutrients are"). I always ask for LOTS of butter, always get less butter than I want (they will bring more). I also always ask for chives, but they send out scallions (and actually had a server tell me their cook said "what's the difference?"). Minor quibbles all. A nice bourbon cocktail and warm rolls with honey butter to start, and my dinner is complete. No idea about their desserts; never made it that far, but someday... Enjoy! read more

Went here for dinner with my daughter since it was close to our hotel. It's very cozy and "western" inside. Our server was very nice and attentive but a bit on the serious side. I ordered the salmon teriyaki along with a crab cake. They were both amazing!! The teriyaki sauce was light and not too sweet and the salmon was served on top of mixed veggies...delicious and light! The crab cake-only $12 as an add on-was completely crab meat and not filled with fillers like most restaurants! I was very pleasantly surprised and it was also delicious and a good size. My daughter had the kids chicken tenders which were actually big pieces of boneless chicken, along with broccoli. It also came with a brownie ice cream dessert...great value for great food! We both had a very delicious and satisfying meal and I highly recommend this place to anyone in the Frederick area! The only issue I had was that the server was quite serious (but very attentive). Made a reservation here Saturday night while in the area for a game. I noticed this place listed in a variety of restaurants in the Frederick area and decided to give it a go. They are very busy, and even with a reservation we waited 5-10 minutes for our table. We were sat in a booth in the back left. It reminds me of a hunting lodge version of Outback, with a massive bar area that looked cool, as well as televisions in the bar area for taking in games. We started with the steak egg rolls which came out almost immediately. They were served au jus as well as with a spicy mayo. They were standard and tasted very good. I ordered the special American wagyu steak for my entree. I added a side of the aged Gorgonzola cheese sauce, and swapped the baked potato for sweet potato casserole and a side of broccoli. It also came with a small side caesar salad. The salad was pretty weak - not much dressing to it. Would have rather not had it than been served it. The steak was good - a very rare medium but the taste made up for it. The sauce was very good as well - I am glad I added that. The sweet potato was also very good and came out molten. I would highly recommend adding it to your meal. We shared a peanut butter pie for dessert. What I really appreciated about it was the size of the slice, and the taste was incredibly good. This is a must order item. Overall, our waitress was great - older lady with reddish hair. She was nice and played along with my dumb jokes. Met family for a weekend brunch, my first visit here. This is a wonderful restaurant! The quality of the food is to notch, with a wonderful variety of flavor experiences! At our brunch we tried the French Toast Slammer, El Torero Breakfast, blackened salmon with eggs on grits, and Homestyle Breakfast. All were perfectly done! Yum was what everyone was saying. The French Toast Slammer is their bedding of a Monty Christo sandwich...French toast stuffed with ham, turkey a cheese...big enough for two modest appetites! Our server fails or was the most popular choice at brunch. The El Torero Breakfast was also a unique breakfast with perfectly cooked eggs on a bed of rice, chorizo sausage crumbles, blabk beans and peppery salsa verde. Delicious is all I can say! The blackened salmon with eggs on grits, was flakes and moist, grits were nice and creamy. Service was attentive and very helpful. Ambience was upscale casual. Madrones has become one of my go to's in Frederick. To be honest, they never disappoint when at the bar. We usually go on a Friday during happy hour, which is from 3-6pm, but whats awesome is they have a late night happy hour that starts at 9pm and runs until close. Pretty great if you plan to stay out late. They have a pretty good happy hour menu as well! The bartenders are all pretty great and attentive. They also deliver amazing service. My favorite bartender is Travis. He definitely goes above and beyond, and makes one of the best long islands. As far as food, my favorite dish is the beef tenderloin with jumbo shrimp. It comes with scallops but I always to request to swap with shrimp. The flavor is amazing and the sauce and corn added the perfect touch. Other times if I share with others, we opt for appetizers and really enjoy most of the options. The crab dip and spinach dip are really good. I also love the tiger shrimp and the spicy chicken lettuce wraps. Very good options for happy hour. Their burgers and sandwiches are also enjoyable. Overall, great spot in Frederick to enjoy, especially if sitting at the bar. Plenty of seating and parking, and the bathrooms and generally kept clean as well. read more

Went here for lunch today. -We were immediately sat in a perfect booth. -We waited 14 minutes until a server spoke to us the first time. (Times from a text I sent when we sat down.) -Coworker and I both ordered burgers med well. They both came out med to med rare in some parts. My coworker's bun was soaked in blood halfway thru, so he didn't finish eating. -I ordered my burger with Lettuce tomato, onion, and mayo. It came out with lettuce only. -We both ordered crispy fries to ensure we didn't get "window fries". We got the mushy window fries anyway. I offered to pay for hot, crispy fries and she brought more out. They were better. -We then waited close to 15 minutes for refills on drinks after the server asked us if we would like refills. We still left more than a 30% tip because we don't want to be cheap nor ignorant, but we will select another option next time we're in Frederick for lunch. read more

We stopped at Madrone's again this past Friday night after the high school football game. Can't say enough good things about everything I've tried from here from food to drinks. The waiter, Nas, was very friendly and always available. We have never had a bad experience here. I highly recommend. Also, they have a Happy Hour Menu that is available Monday-Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and every night 9:00 p.m. - close. You must sit in the bar area only. Delicious food! Would definitely recommend. Coming in, there was no one in the front to help me get seated and I was confused whether I had to sit myself or not. I ended waiting around 10 minutes before someone came and sat me down. Otherwise, my server was attentive around the time I might need them. The place itself is a dimly lit restaurant with a bar that can seat parties of different sizes. I got the "soup of the day" and it was delicious, it was the size of a small meal or appetizer but it was packed with consistently, well-seasoned flavor. It was a thick soup but wasn't "heavy-sitting". I additionally got the Madrones Burger and it was juicy and filling. It was packed sufficiently with the other toppings where I usually have a bite of everything. I ordered a medium but it seemed closer to the lines of medium-rare. Price-wise it was definitely pricey and more along the lines of a nicer meal, paying for the increased quality of food. My mom and I went today for an early Mother's Day brunch and had a lovely meal and great time! The atmosphere is very warm, inviting, and relaxing. We were seated immediately, despite it being prime brunch time in a Saturday, and our server was perfectly attentive without being hovering. Mom got the brioche French toast and I got the Blackened salmon, eggs, & grits. Both were delicious, generous portions. This is one of my family's favorite restaurants in Frederick. Always busy at the bar or dining area. We had to wait 30 minutes to get seats on Friday evening, so if you plan to visit, make sure to reserve in advance for dinner. But it is always good food! The service is usually a little slow, as it's busy place. I am sad that their happy hour has been reduced from 3-7pm to 3-6pm but I would still make it on time. Lol My favorite menu item was scallops, shrimps, and two fillet over the mash potatoes but the quality of filets has been changed. The server said they changed the meat part, this made me sad. This is our go-to date night spot. We love the huge beautiful bar and their mixed drinks are excellent. Love their crab dip- always plenty to bring home, too. I have to say, the atmosphere was very vibrant and cozy with the music. We went at a great time, not to many people. The only complaint I had was we waited over 10 minutes before leaving our table to go eat at the bar area. Not one waiter or waitress came by. So we just left our table. Once we sat at the bar, we met Katy, she was so nice and humble. She had plenty of food recommendations. We started with an appetizer of Buffalo Wings. The wings were tasty with sweet kick. Loved them. Then I ordered the 9oz fillet mignon with a loaded bake potato caesar salad. The steak was grilled to perfection. It was amazingly delicious. My husband got the Half Baby Back Ribs, that truly fell off the bone with asparagus and sweet potato casserole. He loved it. To top and end our dinner we finished it off with a strawberry cheesecake. Went in to have a nice meal this evening, the young man at the front was trying to seat me at a small booth which didn't work for me, he proceeded to tell me thats where all singles were seated. Because I'm plus size it didn't work and I ask for a table, he said I would have to sit at the bar. I said no and I explained that was disrespectful and discriminatory i have never felt so bad. I ask to speak to the manager and she acted like she didn't know what to say and said sorry. The Dry rub ribs were still flavorful and tender to the bone, then my Cauliflower mash was so good I ordered one to go as a reminder to always stop in Madrones when I'm in MD. I've eaten in and gotten takeout from here! Their takeout system is great. You order online seamlessly then pull into one of the spots at the back of the restaurant click I'm here on your phone and they bring it right out to you right away. I always enjoyed the chicken tenders because they are hand breaded and come with delicious shoestring fries. However this time I tried the Cobb salad which was a large serving and his homemade dressing-- the avocado was a nice touch too! I also tried the Penne Toscana & Blackened Tenderloin which had a good flavor and the steak was cooked well. I've eaten here once for brunch and once for dinner, and the restaurant checked a lot of boxes: good food from a menu that has both crowd-pleasers and more eclectic twists, and a pleasant ambiance. I didn't have any of the problems that some other patrons have reported. However, I will not continue to be a patron, because since the second time I went to Madrones, I learned that this restaurant had gone out of their way to get themselves listed on a website called Square that promotes businesses that are MAGA and proud of it. They are free to align themselves that way, and I am free to dine elsewhere because of this knowledge. That's OK, there are plenty of other equally good eateries around Frederick that don't choose to be promote politics that I find offensive. So, five stars for my dining experiences averaged with one star for MAGA averages out to three stars. read more

The two sauces were perfectly paired. The food was prepared nicely, and we could relax and enjoy the meal. It was a great place to stop and enjoy lunch. We decided on this place for Mother's Day as I was with the in-laws and family. I really liked the decor and the shelving of all the different spirits added a touch of sophistication. We were provided service by Chloe who was very friendly and helpful. She made sure to start us off with drinks. I got the pineapple upside-down martini. The flavor was good, albeit a little less stronger than I would have expected as there was no burn. However, The Taste was on point. We were then served warm bread rolls with butter which were very good hot and fresh. Then we all moved on to ordering our main entrees as we decided to forgo appetizers. Madrone's is one of my favorite restaurants in Frederick, MD. The food is always excellent. I love the chop house salad with blackened salmon, the coconut French toast, or any of the specials. For dessert, the peanut butter pie with extra chocolate sauce or the chocolate cake are decadent. Barry is our preferred server. He's always on point and delivers first class service. Though the restaurant is almost always full, it is still easy to have a conversation and to be focused on your group without too many distractions. It's busy! If you don't want to wait long, it's best to get a reservation. With one, we generally wait a few minutes. Without one, the wait can be more than an hour. It's worth it, though! I recently came here for Sunday morning brunch. We arrived around 11:30 am without reservations. The place was packed and people were waiting. Wait time was only 10 mins! Not bad at all. They suggested we could try seating at the bar area. Needless to say, we started conversation with a few people dining and two seats opened up, so we decided to stay at the bar. This place is really nice. Very lively and upbeat. You can see the kitchen area and amazing looking dishes coming out. I had the stuffed French toast and bacon. I requested 2 eggs scrambled on the side. They serve a fantastic grapefruit crush which is what I had. The OJ Mimosa's was a very popular item there too. Since we were at the bar, and they were busy, our Bartender was very busy. So it was tricky to get their attention at times.
