Madrones has become one of my go to's in Frederick. To be honest, they never disappoint when at the bar. We usually go on a Friday during happy hour, which is from 3-6pm, but whats awesome is they have a late night happy hour that starts at 9pm and runs until close. Pretty great if you plan to stay out late. They have a pretty good happy hour menu as well! The bartenders are all pretty great and attentive. They also deliver amazing service. My favorite bartender is Travis. He definitely goes above and beyond, and makes one of the best long islands. As far as food, my favorite dish is the beef tenderloin with jumbo shrimp. It comes with scallops but I always to request to swap with shrimp. The flavor is amazing and the sauce and corn added the perfect touch. Other times if I share with others, we opt for appetizers and really enjoy most of the options. The crab dip and spinach dip are really good. I also love the tiger shrimp and the spicy chicken lettuce wraps. Very good options for happy hour. Their burgers and sandwiches are also enjoyable. Overall, great spot in Frederick to enjoy, especially if sitting at the bar. Plenty of seating and parking, and the bathrooms and generally kept clean as well.

Love the Food & Vibe here. Had Tiger wings, Pork Chop, & Cowboy steak. Sides Chop salad, Broccolini, Creamed Cauliflower (new discovery & awesome), & Mushrooms, ALL Delicious. Rhonda was great & spot on. As always, another great meal. Happy Hour is great too. Thank you !!!

Made a reservation here Saturday night while in the area for a game. I noticed this place listed in a variety of restaurants in the Frederick area and decided to give it a go. They are very busy, and even with a reservation we waited 5-10 minutes for our table. We were sat in a booth in the back left. It reminds me of a hunting lodge version of Outback, with a massive bar area that looked cool, as well as televisions in the bar area for taking in games. We started with the steak egg rolls which came out almost immediately. They were served au jus as well as with a spicy mayo. They were standard and tasted very good. I ordered the special American wagyu steak for my entree. I added a side of the aged Gorgonzola cheese sauce, and swapped the baked potato for sweet potato casserole and a side of broccoli. It also came with a small side caesar salad. The salad was pretty weak - not much dressing to it. Would have rather not had it than been served it. The steak was good - a very rare medium but the taste made up for it. The sauce was very good as well - I am glad I added that. The sweet potato was also very good and came out molten. I would highly recommend adding it to your meal. We shared a peanut butter pie for dessert. What I really appreciated about it was the size of the slice, and the taste was incredibly good. This is a must order item. Overall, our waitress was great - older lady with reddish hair. She was nice and played along with my dumb jokes. Would return, highly recommend as a Long Horn, Outback substitute.

Blackened salmon on grits

Met family for a weekend brunch, my first visit here. This is a wonderful restaurant! The quality of the food is to notch, with a wonderful variety of flavor experiences! At our brunch we tried the French Toast Slammer, El Torero Breakfast, blackened salmon with eggs on grits, and Homestyle Breakfast. All were perfectly done! Yum was what everyone was saying. The French Toast Slammer is their bedding of a Monty Christo sandwich...French toast stuffed with ham, turkey a cheese...big enough for two modest appetites! Our server fails or was the most popular choice at brunch. The El Torero Breakfast was also a unique breakfast with perfectly cooked eggs on a bed of rice, chorizo sausage crumbles, blabk beans and peppery salsa verde. Delicious is all I can say! The blackened salmon with eggs on grits, was flakes and moist, grits were nice and creamy. Service was attentive and very helpful. Ambience was upscale casual. We got reservations for Sunday brunch which is recommended.

We stopped at Madrone's again this past Friday night after the high school football game. Can't say enough good things about everything I've tried from here from food to drinks. The waiter, Nas, was very friendly and always available. We have never had a bad experience here. I highly recommend. Also, they have a Happy Hour Menu that is available Monday-Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and every night 9:00 p.m. - close. You must sit in the bar area only. You can't beat the prices and it works out perfect after a Friday night game.

Local steakhouse, convenient location, quality food, comfortable atmosphere, lighting can be a little dark at times. Reasonable price. Ok service - not all that warm and friendly with personal touch at times, but efficient is what you can expect. Definitely recommend by @WineDinenVacay

Chicken and sausage gumbo, Soup of the day

Delicious food! Would definitely recommend. Coming in, there was no one in the front to help me get seated and I was confused whether I had to sit myself or not. I ended waiting around 10 minutes before someone came and sat me down. Otherwise, my server was attentive around the time I might need them. The place itself is a dimly lit restaurant with a bar that can seat parties of different sizes. I got the "soup of the day" and it was delicious, it was the size of a small meal or appetizer but it was packed with consistently, well-seasoned flavor. It was a thick soup but wasn't "heavy-sitting". I additionally got the Madrones Burger and it was juicy and filling. It was packed sufficiently with the other toppings where I usually have a bite of everything. I ordered a medium but it seemed closer to the lines of medium-rare. Price-wise it was definitely pricey and more along the lines of a nicer meal, paying for the increased quality of food. I would come back again to try the other foods/entrees and have some drinks and it would have been 5 stars if it wasn't for the hiccup in the beginning.

It's been so long since I've been here and the food is just as delicious, service is just as great, and the vibe is always right. This is one of the best hidden gems in Maryland. I cleared that plate lol

The menu offers a nice variety of cuisines, so there's something for everyone. Some of my favorites were the shrimp tacos, spinach pesto linguine, and shrimp scampi. Everything was flavorful and nicely prepared. I was honestly so busy enjoying the food that I completely forgot to take pictures--haha. Service was great as well. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the dishes kept coming out quickly so there was never much of a wait between plates. The wines list is pretty darn good. Specials are great. The 5 star rating is for location (accessible to me), quality of find and drink, and the absolutely decent price (punches above its weight). The service is what you are happy with in a 3 star restaurant, so it's a win budget wise ;-)

The building is large with plenty of parking. It has a medieval-vibe from the outside, although there's a plaque inside the front door saying the building was built in 2000. Once inside, it's fairly dark and continues with the old-mansion type atmosphere. There are lots of items hanging from the walls, older portrait photos, chandeliers, etc. very cool space. We were told at the front desk to go upstairs for the brunch (there is an elevator!). Once upstairs, we were greeted and sat in a corner table for two. The placement of the table was perfect, as there were a lot of families there for brunch, and I felt like we were being given an opportunity for more quiet. I noticed that the layout of the room placed tables for two and other smaller tables toward the outside. The server greeted us warmly and explained where things were and invited us to get started. The food: outstanding. The crab dip was thick from cheese and full of crab. The Maryland crab soup (didn't try the cream one) was full of crab and veggies, and the broth was flavorful. The salad was fresh, the chicken and salmon were both well prepared and delicious and the crab omelette was full from crab. There's also the traditional breads, eggs, potatoes, bacon and sausage. They all looked good, but I didn't take them seriously with all the other foods there. I went to get prime rib snd was given a huge piece freshly sliced. Outstanding. The outside was seasoned perfectly and the inside was moist and flavorful. You can get creamy horseradish, horseradish alone and au jus, which you serve yourself. The desserts included some pies (including key lime), cooked apples, brownies and there's fresh fruit at the salad bar. Service: Outstanding. Our server kept our water glasses, iced tea snd coffee filled and took our plates promptly. Bloody Mary - was $1 and I think it's a darn good Bloody Mary. Not fancy, but tasty. We came here looking for a new place to go for buffet brunch. We live over a half hour away, but do plan to come back for other occasions. It's a nice atmosphere with a very classy vibe, but good for families. Everybody seemed to be having a good time and enjoying themselves. And the service was excellent. The brunch ain't cheap (it's $46.95 per person), but there's outstanding prime rib, a real crab dip and two types of legit crab soups, along with other entrees (the salmon was so soft and flavorful - I was jealous because I can never get mine with such great texture), as well as traditional breakfast fare and a salad bar. Worth a visit. The restaurant's regular menu looks pricy, and some of the items on the regular menu are available on the buffet (prime rib, crab dip, crab soups, the chicken and the salmon).

We found this restaurant after using Google Gemini…read moreto find "Authentic German Food" when we arrived in the parking lot, we saw the chefs sitting outside taking a breather next to where we'd parked, but thought nothing of it at first. It was our first year of dating anniversary but we failed to notice when looking the place up that they closed at 7:30pm. We walked in at about 7:40pm and the bartender regretfully informed us that they had just closed. We accepted the situation for the error it was on our part and opted to go elsewhere. So barely 3 minutes after walking up to the entrance, we were heading back to our truck. The chefs were still there and immediately asked us why we weren't staying to eat. When we explained that we hadn't realized they closed at 7:30, they looked at us and said, "Go back in there and tell them we said we're still open for you guys." We were a bit concerned that we'd cause hard feelings and said we could just come back a different day, and they wouldn't have it. "We're the guys who'll be cooking, not them, if we're okay with it, then what have you got to lose?" We looked at each other and thought briefly and headed back up to the entrance. I had mentioned that I had a spur of the moment 'hankerin' for German Food, and he said, "Well, you're at the right place!" Before we got back in the front door, one of the chefs (we learned shortly after were the owners) was already letting the bar staff know to get us seated and taken care of. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu, and I ordered the Pork Schnitzel. We of course sampled each others' dishes and it was beyond amazing on both entrees. Some of the best schnitzel I've had NOT in Europe, and the mushroom onion gravy was so savory and rich. The Chicken was loaded with flavor and I could definitely see that being on a future order for myself. After we were beyond stuffed, we decided to split a dessert for the occasion and had the Chocolate Mousse Cake. When the bartender learned it was our first anniversary, she made sure to get a candle to put in the cake for us, it was a very nice and welcoming touch. The bar staff was on their game with the service, keeping drinks full and checking on us frequently to make sure we were good to go. There were only two other tables still seated in the restaurant at that point, and they were actually there already eating when we first arrived. They were still there when we departed, so we assumed they may have been family friends or locally important patrons. The ambiance of the restaurant has a very British Pub feel to it, and it is so amazingly cozy and feels like home. We both left with an amazing impression and cannot wait for another chance to try some of the other menu options. I'm very curious to try the Filet Mignon next time, but the Stroganoff looked quite tempting as well. I think we both found a place that we'll absolutely keep on the short list of places to revisit next time we're in town. It was such a memorable experience and we so greatly appreciated the flexibility and hospitality they demonstrated. That type of service is so hard to find these days. Beyond that, I REALLY want to try those Eclairs on a Thursday!

They start you with warm complementary bread with butter. The filet mignon was our favorite dish with soft meat and mashed potatoes. The sauce was a little sour to complement the meat. The linguini in the seafood linguine was cooked soft so it's good for little kids, but if you would like it more al dente, you'll probably have to let them know. There were 3 mussels, 2 scallops and several shrimp all cooked well. The green beans were cooked so they were still crunchy. Some of mine were a bit too undercooked for me. There as a good amount of meat in the veal and pork bolognese over pappardelle. The noodle were cooked well and long. The Maryland crab soup was part of the daily dinner special. Wish there was more crab in the Maryland crab soup since I saw a lot of vegetables. It was pretty spicy which wasn't noted on the menu. The crème brûlée was cooked very well. It was cooked perfectly and paired with a very flavorful sauce. Highly recommended! * The Dessert: Finished with the coconut cake.
